ਮਾਲੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਵੈਸੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
Maal Joban Shhodd Vaisee Rehiou Painan Khaaeiaa ||
मालु जोबनु छोडि वैसी रहिओ पैनणु खाइआ ॥
Abandoning your wealth and youth, you will have to leave, without any food or clothing.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੁਲਿਆ ਨਹ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Naanak Kamaanaa Sang Juliaa Neh Jaae Kirath Mittaaeiaa ||1||
नानक कमाणा संगि जुलिआ नह जाइ किरतु मिटाइआ ॥१॥
O Nanak, only your actions shall go with you; the consequences of your actions cannot be erased. ||1||
ਫਾਥੋਹੁ ਮਿਰਗ ਜਿਵੈ ਪੇਖਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਾਇਣੁ ॥
Faathhohu Mirag Jivai Paekh Rain Chandhraaein ||
फाथोहु मिरग जिवै पेखि रैणि चंद्राइणु ॥
Like the deer, captured on a moon-lit night,
ਸੂਖਹੁ ਦੂਖ ਭਏ ਨਿਤ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਇਣੁ ॥
Sookhahu Dhookh Bheae Nith Paap Kamaaein ||
सूखहु दूख भए नित पाप कमाइणु ॥
So does the constant commission of sins turn pleasure into pain.
ਪਾਪਾ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਛਡਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਲੈ ਚਲੇ ਘਤਿ ਗਲਾਵਿਆ ॥
Paapaa Kamaanae Shhaddehi Naahee Lai Chalae Ghath Galaaviaa ||
पापा कमाणे छडहि नाही लै चले घति गलाविआ ॥
The sins you have committed shall not leave you; placing the noose around your neck, they shall lead you away.
ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਮੂਠਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਸੇਜਾ ਰਾਵਿਆ ॥
Harichandhouree Dhaekh Moothaa Koorr Saejaa Raaviaa ||
हरिचंदउरी देखि मूठा कूड़ु सेजा राविआ ॥
Beholding an illusion, you are deceived, and on your bed, you enjoy a false lover.
ਲਬਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਗਰਬਿ ਭਇਆ ਸਮਾਇਣੁ ॥
Lab Lobh Ahankaar Maathaa Garab Bhaeiaa Samaaein ||
लबि लोभि अहंकारि माता गरबि भइआ समाइणु ॥
You are intoxicated with greed, avarice and egotism; you are engrossed in self-conceit.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਨਹ ਮਿਟੈ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਇਣੁ ॥੨॥
Naanak Mrig Agiaan Binasae Neh Mittai Aavan Jaaein ||2||
नानक म्रिग अगिआनि बिनसे नह मिटै आवणु जाइणु ॥२॥
O Nanak, like the deer, you are being destroyed by your ignorance; your comings and goings shall never end. ||2||
ਮਿਠੈ ਮਖੁ ਮੁਆ ਕਿਉ ਲਏ ਓਡਾਰੀ ॥
Mithai Makh Muaa Kio Leae Ouddaaree ||
मिठै मखु मुआ किउ लए ओडारी ॥
The fly is caught in the sweet candy - how can it fly away?
ਹਸਤੀ ਗਰਤਿ ਪਇਆ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
Hasathee Garath Paeiaa Kio Thareeai Thaaree ||
हसती गरति पइआ किउ तरीऐ तारी ॥
The elephant has fallen into the pit - how can it escape?
ਤਰਣੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ਭਇਆ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ॥
Tharan Dhuhaelaa Bhaeiaa Khin Mehi Khasam Chith N Aaeiou ||
तरणु दुहेला भइआ खिन महि खसमु चिति न आइओ ॥
It shall be so difficult to swim across, for one who does not remember the Lord and Master, even for an instant.
ਦੂਖਾ ਸਜਾਈ ਗਣਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
Dhookhaa Sajaaee Ganath Naahee Keeaa Apanaa Paaeiou ||
दूखा सजाई गणत नाही कीआ अपणा पाइओ ॥
His sufferings and punishments are beyond reckoning; he receives the consequences of his own actions.
ਗੁਝਾ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਆ ਈਤ ਉਤਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥
Gujhaa Kamaanaa Pragatt Hoaa Eeth Outhehi Khuaaree ||
गुझा कमाणा प्रगटु होआ ईत उतहि खुआरी ॥
His secret deeds are exposed, and he is ruined here and hereafter.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝੁ ਮੂਠਾ ਮਨਮੁਖੋ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
Naanak Sathigur Baajh Moothaa Manamukho Ahankaaree ||3||
नानक सतिगुर बाझु मूठा मनमुखो अहंकारी ॥३॥
O Nanak, without the True Guru, the self-willed egotistical manmukh is defrauded. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਜੀਵੇ ਲਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ॥
Har Kae Dhaas Jeevae Lag Prabh Kee Charanee ||
हरि के दास जीवे लगि प्रभ की चरणी ॥
The Lord's slaves live by holding on to God's feet.
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਇ ਲੀਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਰਣੀ ॥
Kanth Lagaae Leeeae This Thaakur Saranee ||
कंठि लगाइ लीए तिसु ठाकुर सरणी ॥
The Lord and Master embraces those who seek His Sanctuary.
ਬਲ ਬੁਧਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇਆ ॥
Bal Budhh Giaan Dhhiaan Apanaa Aap Naam Japaaeiaa ||
बल बुधि गिआनु धिआनु अपणा आपि नामु जपाइआ ॥
He blesses them with power, wisdom, knowledge and meditation; He Himself inspires them to chant His Name.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਆਪਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥
Saadhhasangath Aap Hoaa Aap Jagath Tharaaeiaa ||
साधसंगति आपि होआ आपि जगतु तराइआ ॥
He Himself is the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and He Himself saves the world.
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਰਖਣਹਾਰੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਣੀ ॥
Raakh Leeeae Rakhanehaarai Sadhaa Niramal Karanee ||
राखि लीए रखणहारै सदा निरमल करणी ॥
The Preserver preserves those whose actions are always pure.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੀ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੧॥

वंञु मेरे आलसा हरि पासि बेनंती ॥
Be gone, O my laziness, that I may pray to the Lord.
ਰਾਵਉ ਸਹੁ ਆਪਨੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੋਹੰਤੀ ॥
Raavo Sahu Aapanarraa Prabh Sang Sohanthee ||
रावउ सहु आपनड़ा प्रभ संगि सोहंती ॥
I enjoy my Husband Lord, and look beautiful with my God.
ਸੰਗੇ ਸੋਹੰਤੀ ਕੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣੀ ਰਾਵੀਐ ॥
Sangae Sohanthee Kanth Suaamee Dhinas Rainee Raaveeai ||
संगे सोहंती कंत सुआमी दिनसु रैणी रावीऐ ॥
I look beautiful in the Company of my Husband Lord; I enjoy my Lord Master day and night.
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਚਿਤਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੀਐ ॥
Saas Saas Chithaar Jeevaa Prabh Paekh Har Gun Gaaveeai ||
सासि सासि चितारि जीवा प्रभु पेखि हरि गुण गावीऐ ॥
I live by remembering God with each and every breath, beholding the Lord, and singing His Glorious Praises.
ਬਿਰਹਾ ਲਜਾਇਆ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਮਿਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਿੰਚੰਤੀ ॥
Birehaa Lajaaeiaa Dharas Paaeiaa Amio Dhrisatt Sinchanthee ||
बिरहा लजाइआ दरसु पाइआ अमिउ द्रिसटि सिंचंती ॥
The pain of separation has grown shy, for I have obtained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; His Ambrosial Glance of Grace has filled me with bliss.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਖੋਜੰਤੀ ॥੧॥

बिनवंति नानकु मेरी इछ पुंनी मिले जिसु खोजंती ॥१॥
Prays Nanak, my desires are fulfilled; I have met the One I was seeking. ||1||
ਨਸਿ ਵੰਞਹੁ ਕਿਲਵਿਖਹੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
Nas Vannjahu Kilavikhahu Karathaa Ghar Aaeiaa ||
नसि वंञहु किलविखहु करता घरि आइआ ॥
Run away, O sins; the Creator has entered my home.
ਦੂਤਹ ਦਹਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਆ ॥
Dhootheh Dhehan Bhaeiaa Govindh Pragattaaeiaa ||
दूतह दहनु भइआ गोविंदु प्रगटाइआ ॥
The demons within me have been burnt; the Lord of the Universe has revealed Himself to me.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਲਾਲਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥
Pragattae Gupaal Gobindh Laalan Saadhhasang Vakhaaniaa ||
प्रगटे गुपाल गोबिंद लालन साधसंगि वखाणिआ ॥
The Beloved Lord of the Universe, the Lord of the World has revealed Himself; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I chant His Name.
ਆਚਰਜੁ ਡੀਠਾ ਅਮਿਉ ਵੂਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
Aacharaj Ddeethaa Amio Voothaa Gur Prasaadhee Jaaniaa ||
आचरजु डीठा अमिउ वूठा गुर प्रसादी जाणिआ ॥
I have seen the Wondrous Lord; He showers His Ambrosial Nectar upon me, and by Guru's Grace, I know Him.
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਨਹ ਅੰਤੁ ਜਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Man Saanth Aaee Vajee Vadhhaaee Neh Anth Jaaee Paaeiaa ||
मनि सांति आई वजी वधाई नह अंतु जाई पाइआ ॥
My mind is at peace, resounding with the music of bliss; the Lord's limits cannot be found.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਿ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Binavanth Naanak Sukh Sehaj Maelaa Prabhoo Aap Banaaeiaa ||2||
बिनवंति नानक सुख सहजि मेला प्रभू आपि बणाइआ ॥२॥
Prays Nanak, God brings us to union with Himself, in the poise of celestial peace. ||2||
ਨਰਕ ਨ ਡੀਠੜਿਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥
Narak N Ddeetharriaa Simarath Naaraaein ||
नरक न डीठड़िआ सिमरत नाराइण ॥
They do not have to see hell, if they remember the Lord in meditation.
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਦੂਤ ਭਏ ਪਲਾਇਣ ॥
Jai Jai Dhharam Karae Dhooth Bheae Palaaein ||
जै जै धरमु करे दूत भए पलाइण ॥
The Righteous Judge of Dharma applauds them, and the Messenger of Death runs away from them.
ਧਰਮ ਧੀਰਜ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੇ ॥
Dhharam Dhheeraj Sehaj Sukheeeae Saadhhasangath Har Bhajae ||
धरम धीरज सहज सुखीए साधसंगति हरि भजे ॥
Dharmic faith, patience, peace and poise are obtained by vibrating upon the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਕਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਭ ਤਜੇ ॥
Kar Anugrahu Raakh Leenae Moh Mamathaa Sabh Thajae ||
करि अनुग्रहु राखि लीने मोह ममता सभ तजे ॥
Showering His Blessings, He saves those who renounce all attachments and egotism.
ਗਹਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਏ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਪਤ ਅਘਾਇਣ ॥
Gehi Kanth Laaeae Gur Milaaeae Govindh Japath Aghaaein ||
गहि कंठि लाए गुरि मिलाए गोविंद जपत अघाइण ॥
The Lord embraces us; the Guru unites us with Him. Meditating on the Lord of the Universe, we are satisfied.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਗਲ ਆਸ ਪੁਜਾਇਣ ॥੩॥

बिनवंति नानक सिमरि सुआमी सगल आस पुजाइण ॥३॥
