ਕਾਗਦ ਕੋਟੁ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਹੈ ਬਪੁਰੋ ਰੰਗਨਿ ਚਿਹਨ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
Kaagadh Kott Eihu Jag Hai Bapuro Rangan Chihan Chathuraaee ||
कागद कोटु इहु जगु है बपुरो रंगनि चिहन चतुराई ॥
This wretched world is a fortress of paper, of color and form and clever tricks.
ਨਾਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਪਵਨੁ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਵੈ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਤਾਈ ॥੪॥
Naanhee See Boondh Pavan Path Khovai Janam Marai Khin Thaaeanaee ||4||
नान्ही सी बूंद पवनु पति खोवै जनमि मरै खिनु ताईं ॥४॥
A tiny drop of water or a little puff of wind destroys its glory; in an instant, its life is ended. ||4||
ਨਦੀ ਉਪਕੰਠਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਘਰੁ ਤਰਵਰੁ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਘਰੁ ਘਰ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
Nadhee Oupakanth Jaisae Ghar Tharavar Sarapan Ghar Ghar Maahee ||
नदी उपकंठि जैसे घरु तरवरु सरपनि घरु घर माही ॥
It is like a tree-house near the bank of a river, with a serpent's den in that house.
ਉਲਟੀ ਨਦੀ ਕਹਾਂ ਘਰੁ ਤਰਵਰੁ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਡਸੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਂਹੀ ॥੫॥
Oulattee Nadhee Kehaan Ghar Tharavar Sarapan Ddasai Dhoojaa Man Maanhee ||5||
उलटी नदी कहां घरु तरवरु सरपनि डसै दूजा मन मांही ॥५॥
When the river overflows, what happens to the tree house? The snake bites, like duality in the mind. ||5||
ਗਾਰੁੜ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਰੀ ॥
Gaarurr Gur Giaan Dhhiaan Gur Bachanee Bikhiaa Guramath Jaaree ||
गारुड़ गुर गिआनु धिआनु गुर बचनी बिखिआ गुरमति जारी ॥
Through the magic spell of the Guru's spiritual wisdom, and meditation on the Word of the Guru's Teachings, vice and corruption are burnt away.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਹੇਂਵ ਭਏ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
Man Than Haenav Bheae Sach Paaeiaa Har Kee Bhagath Niraaree ||6||
मन तन हेंव भए सचु पाइआ हरि की भगति निरारी ॥६॥
The mind and body are cooled and soothed and Truth is obtained, through the wondrous and unique devotional worship of the Lord. ||6||
ਜੇਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਤੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਤੂ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆਂ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
Jaethee Hai Thaethee Thudhh Jaachai Thoo Sarab Jeeaaan Dhaeiaalaa ||
जेती है तेती तुधु जाचै तू सरब जीआं दइआला ॥
All that exists begs of You; You are merciful to all beings.
ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥੭॥
Thumharee Saran Parae Path Raakhahu Saach Milai Gopaalaa ||7||
तुम्हरी सरणि परे पति राखहु साचु मिलै गोपाला ॥७॥
I seek Your Sanctuary; please save my honor, O Lord of the World, and bless me with Truth. ||7||
ਬਾਧੀ ਧੰਧਿ ਅੰਧ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਝੈ ਬਧਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
Baadhhee Dhhandhh Andhh Nehee Soojhai Badhhik Karam Kamaavai ||
बाधी धंधि अंध नही सूझै बधिक करम कमावै ॥
Bound in worldly affairs and entanglements, the blind one does not understand; he acts like a murderous butcher.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਸੂਝਸਿ ਬੂਝਸਿ ਸਚ ਮਨਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੮॥
Sathigur Milai Th Soojhas Boojhas Sach Man Giaan Samaavai ||8||
सतिगुर मिलै त सूझसि बूझसि सच मनि गिआनु समावै ॥८॥
But if he meets with the True Guru, then he comprehends and understands, and his mind is imbued with true spiritual wisdom. ||8||
ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਦੇਹ ਸਾਚ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਾਚੀ ਮੈ ਪੂਛਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥
Niragun Dhaeh Saach Bin Kaachee Mai Pooshho Gur Apanaa ||
निरगुण देह साच बिनु काची मै पूछउ गुरु अपना ॥
Without the Truth, this worthless body is false; I have consulted my Guru on this.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਜਗੁ ਸੁਪਨਾ ॥੯॥੨॥
Naanak So Prabh Prabhoo Dhikhaavai Bin Saachae Jag Supanaa ||9||2||
नानक सो प्रभु प्रभू दिखावै बिनु साचे जगु सुपना ॥९॥२॥
O Nanak, that God has revealed God to me; without the Truth, all the world is just a dream. ||9||2||

Chaathrik Meen Jal Hee Thae Sukh Paavehi Saaring Sabadh Suhaaee ||1||
चात्रिक मीन जल ही ते सुखु पावहि सारिंग सबदि सुहाई ॥१॥
The rainbird and the fish find peace in water; the deer is pleased by the sound of the bell. ||1||
ਰੈਨਿ ਬਬੀਹਾ ਬੋਲਿਓ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

प्रिअ सिउ प्रीति न उलटै कबहू जो तै भावै साई ॥२॥
O my Beloved, my love for You shall never end, if it is Your Will. ||2||
ਨੀਦ ਗਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਸਚ ਮਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੩॥
Needh Gee Houmai Than Thhaakee Sach Math Ridhai Samaaee ||3||
नीद गई हउमै तनि थाकी सच मति रिदै समाई ॥३॥
Sleep is gone, and egotism is exhausted from my body; my heart is permeated with the Teachings of Truth. ||3||
ਰੂਖੀ ਬਿਰਖੀ ਊਡਉ ਭੂਖਾ ਪੀਵਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੪॥
Rookhanaee Birakhanaee Ooddo Bhookhaa Peevaa Naam Subhaaee ||4||
रूखीं बिरखीं ऊडउ भूखा पीवा नामु सुभाई ॥४॥
Flying among the trees and plants, I remain hungry; lovingly drinking in the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I am satisfied. ||4||
ਲੋਚਨ ਤਾਰ ਲਲਤਾ ਬਿਲਲਾਤੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਪਿਆਸ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੫॥
Lochan Thaar Lalathaa Bilalaathee Dharasan Piaas Rajaaee ||5||
लोचन तार ललता बिललाती दरसन पिआस रजाई ॥५॥
I stare at You, and my tongue cries out to You; I am so thirsty for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||5||
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਕਰੀ ਤੇਤਾ ਤਨੁ ਤਾਪੈ ਕਾਪਰੁ ਅੰਗਿ ਨ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥੬॥
Pria Bin Seegaar Karee Thaethaa Than Thaapai Kaapar Ang N Suhaaee ||6||
प्रिअ बिनु सीगारु करी तेता तनु तापै कापरु अंगि न सुहाई ॥६॥
Without my Beloved, the more I decorate myself, the more my body burns; these clothes do not look good on my body. ||6||
ਅਪਨੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਂਉ ਬਿਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
Apanae Piaarae Bin Eik Khin Rehi N Sakano Bin Milae Nanaeedh N Paaee ||7||
अपने पिआरे बिनु इकु खिनु रहि न सकंउ बिन मिले नींद न पाई ॥७॥
Without my Beloved, I cannot survive even for an instant; without meeting Him, I cannot sleep. ||7||
ਪਿਰੁ ਨਜੀਕਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਪੁੜੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥੮॥
Pir Najeek N Boojhai Bapurree Sathigur Dheeaa Dhikhaaee ||8||
पिरु नजीकि न बूझै बपुड़ी सतिगुरि दीआ दिखाई ॥८॥
Her Husband Lord is nearby, but the wretched bride does not know it. The True Guru reveals Him to her. ||8||
ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੯॥
Sehaj Miliaa Thab Hee Sukh Paaeiaa Thrisanaa Sabadh Bujhaaee ||9||
सहजि मिलिआ तब ही सुखु पाइआ त्रिसना सबदि बुझाई ॥९॥
When she meets Him with intuitive ease, she finds peace; the Word of the Shabad quenches the fire of desire. ||9||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧੦॥੩॥

कहु नानक तुझ ते मनु मानिआ कीमति कहनु न जाई ॥१०॥३॥
Says Nanak, through You, O Lord, my mind is pleased and appeased; I cannot express Your worth. ||10||3||

The lofty mountains and the caverns of the underworld.

सागरु सीतलु गुर सबद वीचारि ॥
