ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਨਾਥ ਅਨਾਥ ਸਖੇ ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
Praan Naathh Anaathh Sakhae Dheen Dharadh Nivaar ||1||
प्रान नाथ अनाथ सखे दीन दरद निवार ॥१॥
You are the Master of the breath of life, the Companion of the lost and forsaken, the Destroyer of the pains of the poor. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸਮ੍ਰਥ ਅਗਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
Hae Samrathh Agam Pooran Mohi Maeiaa Dhhaar ||2||
हे सम्रथ अगम पूरन मोहि मइआ धारि ॥२॥
O All-powerful, Inaccessible, Perfect Lord, please shower me with Your Mercy. ||2||

अंध कूप महा भइआन नानक पारि उतार ॥३॥८॥३०॥
Please, carry Nanak across the terrible, deep dark pit of the world to the other side. ||3||8||30||

ਚਕਵੀ ਨੈਨ ਨੀਦ ਨਹਿ ਚਾਹੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
Chakavee Nain Nanaeedh Nehi Chaahai Bin Pir Nanaeedh N Paaee ||
चकवी नैन नींद नहि चाहै बिनु पिर नींद न पाई ॥
The chakvi bird does not long for sleepy eyes; without her beloved, she does not sleep.
ਸੂਰੁ ਚਰ੍ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਦੇਖੈ ਨੈਨੀ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਾਂਈ ॥੧॥
Soor Charhai Prio Dhaekhai Nainee Niv Niv Laagai Paanee ||1||
सूरु चर्है प्रिउ देखै नैनी निवि निवि लागै पांई ॥१॥
When the sun rises, she sees her beloved with her eyes; she bows and touches his feet. ||1||
ਪਿਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
Pir Bhaavai Praem Sakhaaee ||
पिर भावै प्रेमु सखाई ॥
The Love of my Beloved is pleasing; it is my Companion and Support.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨਹੀ ਜਗਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਐਸੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਤਿਸਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
This Bin Gharree Nehee Jag Jeevaa Aisee Piaas Thisaaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
तिसु बिनु घड़ी नही जगि जीवा ऐसी पिआस तिसाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Without Him, I cannot live in this world even for an instant; such is my hunger and thirst. ||1||Pause||
ਸਰਵਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਆਕਾਸੀ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥
Saravar Kamal Kiran Aakaasee Bigasai Sehaj Subhaaee ||
सरवरि कमलु किरणि आकासी बिगसै सहजि सुभाई ॥
The lotus in the pool blossoms forth intuitively and naturally, with the rays of the sun in the sky.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਨੀ ਅਭ ਐਸੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
Preetham Preeth Banee Abh Aisee Jothee Joth Milaaee ||2||
प्रीतम प्रीति बनी अभ ऐसी जोती जोति मिलाई ॥२॥
Such is the love for my Beloved which imbues me; my light has merged into the Light. ||2||
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਟੇਰੈ ਬਿਲਪ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਈ ॥
Chaathrik Jal Bin Prio Prio Ttaerai Bilap Karai Bilalaaee ||
चात्रिकु जल बिनु प्रिउ प्रिउ टेरै बिलप करै बिललाई ॥
Without water, the rainbird cries out, ""Pri-o! Pri-o! - Beloved! Beloved!"" It cries and wails and laments.
ਘਨਹਰ ਘੋਰ ਦਸੌ ਦਿਸਿ ਬਰਸੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
Ghanehar Ghor Dhasa Dhis Barasai Bin Jal Piaas N Jaaee ||3||
घनहर घोर दसौ दिसि बरसै बिनु जल पिआस न जाई ॥३॥
The thundering clouds rain down in the ten directions; its thirst is not quenched until it catches the rain-drop in its mouth. ||3||
ਮੀਨ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਲ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
Meen Nivaas Oupajai Jal Hee Thae Sukh Dhukh Purab Kamaaee ||
मीन निवास उपजै जल ही ते सुख दुख पुरबि कमाई ॥
The fish lives in water, from which it was born. It finds peace and pleasure according to its past actions.
ਖਿਨੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਪਲੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਨੁ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਾਂਈ ॥੪॥
Khin Thil Rehi N Sakai Pal Jal Bin Maran Jeevan This Thaanee ||4||
खिनु तिलु रहि न सकै पलु जल बिनु मरनु जीवनु तिसु तांई ॥४॥
It cannot survive without water for a moment, even for an instant. Life and death depend on it. ||4||
ਧਨ ਵਾਂਢੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਦੇਸ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਠਾਈ ॥
Dhhan Vaandtee Pir Dhaes Nivaasee Sachae Gur Pehi Sabadh Pathaaeanaee ||
धन वांढी पिरु देस निवासी सचे गुर पहि सबदु पठाईं ॥
The soul-bride is separated from her Husband Lord, who lives in His Own Country. He sends the Shabad, His Word, through the True Guru.
ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੀ ਹਰਖਾਈ ॥੫॥
Gun Sangrehi Prabh Ridhai Nivaasee Bhagath Rathee Harakhaaee ||5||
गुण संग्रहि प्रभु रिदै निवासी भगति रती हरखाई ॥५॥
She gathers virtues, and enshrines God within her heart. Imbued with devotion, she is happy. ||5||
ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਕਰੈ ਸਭੈ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪਾਈ ॥
Prio Prio Karai Sabhai Hai Jaethee Gur Bhaavai Prio Paaeanaee ||
प्रिउ प्रिउ करै सभै है जेती गुर भावै प्रिउ पाईं ॥
Everyone cries out, ""Beloved! Beloved!"" But she alone finds her Beloved, who is pleasing to the Guru.
ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਨਾਲੇ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚਿ ਸੰਗੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੬॥
Prio Naalae Sadh Hee Sach Sangae Nadharee Mael Milaaee ||6||
प्रिउ नाले सद ही सचि संगे नदरी मेलि मिलाई ॥६॥
Our Beloved is always with us; through the Truth, He blesses us with His Grace, and unites us in His Union. ||6||
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਜੀਉ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
Sabh Mehi Jeeo Jeeo Hai Soee Ghatt Ghatt Rehiaa Samaaee ||
सभ महि जीउ जीउ है सोई घटि घटि रहिआ समाई ॥
He is the life of the soul in each and every soul; He permeates and pervades each and every heart.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੭॥
Gur Parasaadh Ghar Hee Paragaasiaa Sehajae Sehaj Samaaee ||7||
गुर परसादि घर ही परगासिआ सहजे सहजि समाई ॥७॥
By Guru's Grace, He is revealed within the home of my heart; I am intuitively, naturally, absorbed into Him. ||7||
ਅਪਨਾ ਕਾਜੁ ਸਵਾਰਹੁ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਗੋਸਾਂਈ ॥
Apanaa Kaaj Savaarahu Aapae Sukhadhaathae Gosaaneanaee ||
अपना काजु सवारहु आपे सुखदाते गोसांईं ॥
He Himself shall resolve all your affairs, when you meet with the Giver of peace, the Lord of the World.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਪਤਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੮॥੧॥
Gur Parasaadh Ghar Hee Pir Paaeiaa Tho Naanak Thapath Bujhaaee ||8||1||
गुर परसादि घर ही पिरु पाइआ तउ नानक तपति बुझाई ॥८॥१॥
By Guru's Grace, you shall find your Husband Lord within your own home; then, O Nanak, the fire within you shall be quenched. ||8||1||

ਜਾਗਤੁ ਜਾਗਿ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਮੈ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Jaagath Jaag Rehai Gur Saevaa Bin Har Mai Ko Naahee ||
जागतु जागि रहै गुर सेवा बिनु हरि मै को नाही ॥
Remain awake and aware, serving the Guru; except for the Lord, no one is mine.
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਆਚੁ ਕਾਚੁ ਢਰਿ ਪਾਂਹੀ ॥੧॥
Anik Jathan Kar Rehan N Paavai Aach Kaach Dtar Paanhee ||1||
अनिक जतन करि रहणु न पावै आचु काचु ढरि पांही ॥१॥
Even by making all sorts of efforts, you shall not remain here; it shall melt like glass in the fire. ||1||
ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਕਾ ਕਹਹੁ ਗਰਬੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥
Eis Than Dhhan Kaa Kehahu Garab Kaisaa ||
इसु तन धन का कहहु गरबु कैसा ॥
Tell me - why are you so proud of your body and wealth?
ਬਿਨਸਤ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਵਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬਿ ਖਪੈ ਜਗੁ ਐਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Binasath Baar N Laagai Bavarae Houmai Garab Khapai Jag Aisaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
बिनसत बार न लागै बवरे हउमै गरबि खपै जगु ऐसा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
They shall vanish in an instant; O madman, this is how the world is wasting away, in egotism and pride. ||1||Pause||
ਜੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਪਰਖੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
Jai Jagadhees Prabhoo Rakhavaarae Raakhai Parakhai Soee ||
जै जगदीस प्रभू रखवारे राखै परखै सोई ॥
Hail to the Lord of the Universe, God, our Saving Grace; He judges and saves the mortal beings.
ਜੇਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਤੀ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥
Jaethee Hai Thaethee Thujh Hee Thae Thumh Sar Avar N Koee ||2||
जेती है तेती तुझ ही ते तुम्ह सरि अवरु न कोई ॥२॥
All that is, belongs to You. No one else is equal to You. ||2||
ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਜਨੁ ॥
Jeea Oupaae Jugath Vas Keenee Aapae Guramukh Anjan ||
जीअ उपाइ जुगति वसि कीनी आपे गुरमुखि अंजनु ॥
Creating all beings and creatures, their ways and means are under Your control; You bless the Gurmukhs with the ointment of spiritual wisdom.
ਅਮਰੁ ਅਨਾਥ ਸਰਬ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੋਰਾ ਕਾਲ ਬਿਕਾਲ ਭਰਮ ਭੈ ਖੰਜਨੁ ॥੩॥
Amar Anaathh Sarab Sir Moraa Kaal Bikaal Bharam Bhai Khanjan ||3||
अमरु अनाथ सरब सिरि मोरा काल बिकाल भरम भै खंजनु ॥३॥
My Eternal, Unmastered Lord is over the heads of all. He is the Destroyer of death and rebirth, doubt and fear. ||3||
