धरमु कराए करम धुरहु फुरमाइआ ॥३॥
The Primal Lord has ordained that mortals must practice righteousness. ||3||

ਸਾਵਣੁ ਆਇਆ ਹੇ ਸਖੀ ਕੰਤੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਰੇਹੁ ॥
Saavan Aaeiaa Hae Sakhee Kanthai Chith Karaehu ||
सावणु आइआ हे सखी कंतै चिति करेहु ॥
The month of Saawan has come, O my companions; think of your Husband Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਝੂਰਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਅਵਰੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਨੇਹੁ ॥੧॥
Naanak Jhoor Marehi Dhohaaganee Jinh Avaree Laagaa Naehu ||1||
नानक झूरि मरहि दोहागणी जिन्ह अवरी लागा नेहु ॥१॥
O Nanak, the discarded bride is in love with another; now she weeps and wails, and dies. ||1||

The month of Saawan has come, O my companions; the clouds have burst forth with rain.

नानक सुखि सवनु सोहागणी जिन्ह सह नालि पिआरु ॥२॥
O Nanak, the blessed soul-brides sleep in peace; they are in love with their Husband Lord. ||2||

Aapae Shhinjh Pavaae Malaakhaarraa Rachiaa ||
आपे छिंझ पवाइ मलाखाड़ा रचिआ ॥
He Himself has staged the tournament, and arranged the arena for the wrestlers.
ਲਥੇ ਭੜਥੂ ਪਾਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਚਿਆ ॥
Lathhae Bharrathhoo Paae Guramukh Machiaa ||
लथे भड़थू पाइ गुरमुखि मचिआ ॥
They have entered the arena with pomp and ceremony; the Gurmukhs are joyful.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਰੇ ਪਛਾੜਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਚਿਆ ॥
Manamukh Maarae Pashhaarr Moorakh Kachiaa ||
मनमुख मारे पछाड़ि मूरख कचिआ ॥
The false and foolish self-willed manmukhs are defeated and overcome.
ਆਪਿ ਭਿੜੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਰਚਿਆ ॥
Aap Bhirrai Maarae Aap Aap Kaaraj Rachiaa ||
आपि भिड़ै मारे आपि आपि कारजु रचिआ ॥
The Lord Himself wrestles, and He Himself defeats them. He Himself staged this play.
ਸਭਨਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
Sabhanaa Khasam Eaek Hai Guramukh Jaaneeai ||
सभना खसमु एकु है गुरमुखि जाणीऐ ॥
The One God is the Lord and Master of all; this is known by the Gurmukhs.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਲਿਖੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਲਮ ਮਸਵਾਣੀਐ ॥
Hukamee Likhai Sir Laekh Vin Kalam Masavaaneeai ||
हुकमी लिखै सिरि लेखु विणु कलम मसवाणीऐ ॥
He writes the inscription of His Hukam on the foreheads of all, without pen or ink.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾਪੁ ਜਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਦਾ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥
Sathasangath Maelaap Jithhai Har Gun Sadhaa Vakhaaneeai ||
सतसंगति मेलापु जिथै हरि गुण सदा वखाणीऐ ॥
In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, Union with Him is obtained; there, the Glorious Praises of the Lord are chanted forever.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ॥੪॥
Naanak Sachaa Sabadh Salaahi Sach Pashhaaneeai ||4||
नानक सचा सबदु सलाहि सचु पछाणीऐ ॥४॥
O Nanak, praising the True Word of His Shabad, one comes to realize the Truth. ||4||

Hanging low, low and thick in the sky, the clouds are changing color.
ਕਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਹ ਸਿਉ ਕੇਵ ਰਹਸੀ ਰੰਗੁ ॥

किआ जाणा तिसु साह सिउ केव रहसी रंगु ॥
How do I know whether my love for my Husband Lord shall endure?
ਰੰਗੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਨਿ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
Rang Rehiaa Thinh Kaamanee Jinh Man Bho Bhaao Hoe ||
रंगु रहिआ तिन्ह कामणी जिन्ह मनि भउ भाउ होइ ॥
The love of those soul-brides endures, if their minds are filled with the Love and the Fear of God.

O Nanak, she who has no Love and Fear of God - her body shall never find peace. ||1||

Hanging low, low and thick in the sky, the clouds come, and pure water rains down.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੰਤੈ ਸਿਉ ਮਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ॥੨॥
Naanak Dhukh Laagaa Thinh Kaamanee Jinh Kanthai Sio Man Bhang ||2||

O Nanak, that soul-bride suffers in pain, whose mind is torn away from her Husband Lord. ||2||

दोवै तरफा उपाइ इकु वरतिआ ॥
The One Lord created both sides and pervades the expanse.
ਬੇਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਰਤਾਇ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਘਤਿਆ ॥
Baedh Baanee Varathaae Andhar Vaadh Ghathiaa ||
बेद बाणी वरताइ अंदरि वादु घतिआ ॥
The words of the Vedas became pervasive, with arguments and divisions.
ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਨਿਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਹਾਠਾ ਦੋਵੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਰੈਬਾਰਿਆ ॥
Paravirath Niravirath Haathaa Dhovai Vich Dhharam Firai Raibaariaa ||
परविरति निरविरति हाठा दोवै विचि धरमु फिरै रैबारिआ ॥
Attachment and detachment are the two sides of it; Dharma, true religion, is the guide between the two.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਚੇ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਦਰਗਹ ਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
Manamukh Kachae Koorriaar Thinhee Nihacho Dharageh Haariaa ||
मनमुख कचे कूड़िआर तिन्ही निहचउ दरगह हारिआ ॥
The self-willed manmukhs are worthless and false. Without a doubt, they lose in the Court of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੂਰ ਹੈ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
Guramathee Sabadh Soor Hai Kaam Krodhh Jinhee Maariaa ||
गुरमती सबदि सूर है कामु क्रोधु जिन्ही मारिआ ॥
Those who follow the Guru's Teachings are the true spiritual warriors; they have conquered sexual desire and anger.
ਸਚੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
Sachai Andhar Mehal Sabadh Savaariaa ||
सचै अंदरि महलि सबदि सवारिआ ॥
They enter into the True Mansion of the Lord's Presence, embellished and exalted by the Word of the Shabad.
ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਦੇ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥
Sae Bhagath Thudhh Bhaavadhae Sachai Naae Piaariaa ||
से भगत तुधु भावदे सचै नाइ पिआरिआ ॥
Those devotees are pleasing to Your Will, O Lord; they dearly love the True Name.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥੫॥
Sathigur Saevan Aapanaa Thinhaa Vittahu Ho Vaariaa ||5||
सतिगुरु सेवनि आपणा तिन्हा विटहु हउ वारिआ ॥५॥
I am a sacrifice to those who serve their True Guru. ||5||

नानक भाणै चलै कंत कै सु माणे सदा रली ॥१॥
O Nanak, she walks in harmony with the Will of her Husband Lord; she enjoys peace and pleasure forever. ||1||

Kiaa Outh Outh Dhaekhahu Bapurraen Eis Maeghai Hathh Kishh Naahi ||
किआ उठि उठि देखहु बपुड़ें इसु मेघै हथि किछु नाहि ॥
Why are you standing up, standing up to look? You poor wretch, this cloud has nothing in its hands.
ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹੁ ਮੇਘੁ ਪਠਾਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਂਹਿ ॥
Jin Eaehu Maegh Pathaaeiaa This Raakhahu Man Maanhi ||
जिनि एहु मेघु पठाइआ तिसु राखहु मन मांहि ॥
The One who sent this cloud - cherish Him in your mind.
ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਸੀ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
This No Mann Vasaaeisee Jaa Ko Nadhar Karaee ||
तिस नो मंनि वसाइसी जा कउ नदरि करेइ ॥
He alone enshrines the Lord in his mind, upon whom the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਸਭ ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਹ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Nadharee Baaharee Sabh Karan Palaah Karaee ||2||
नानक नदरी बाहरी सभ करण पलाह करेइ ॥२॥
O Nanak, all those who lack this Grace, cry and weep and wail. ||2||

सो हरि सदा सरेवीऐ जिसु करत न लागै वार ॥
Serve the Lord forever; He acts in no time at all.
ਆਡਾਣੇ ਆਕਾਸ ਕਰਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥
Aaddaanae Aakaas Kar Khin Mehi Dtaahi Ousaaranehaar ||
आडाणे आकास करि खिन महि ढाहि उसारणहार ॥
He stretched the sky across the heavens; in an instant, He creates and destroys.
ਆਪੇ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
Aapae Jagath Oupaae Kai Kudharath Karae Veechaar ||
आपे जगतु उपाइ कै कुदरति करे वीचार ॥
He Himself created the world; He contemplates His Creative Omnipotence.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਾਰ ॥
Manamukh Agai Laekhaa Mangeeai Bahuthee Hovai Maar ||
मनमुख अगै लेखा मंगीऐ बहुती होवै मार ॥
The self-willed manmukh will be called to account hereafter; he will be severely punished.
