इसत्री पुरखै जां निसि मेला ओथै मंधु कमाही ॥
But when men and women meet in the night, they come together in the flesh.

मासहु निमे मासहु जमे हम मासै के भांडे ॥
In the flesh we are conceived, and in the flesh we are born; we are vessels of flesh.
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਕਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਪਾਂਡੇ ॥
Giaan Dhhiaan Kashh Soojhai Naahee Chathur Kehaavai Paanddae ||
गिआनु धिआनु कछु सूझै नाही चतुरु कहावै पांडे ॥
You know nothing of spiritual wisdom and meditation, even though you call yourself clever, O religious scholar.
ਬਾਹਰ ਕਾ ਮਾਸੁ ਮੰਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਮਾਸੁ ਚੰਗੇਰਾ ॥
Baahar Kaa Maas Mandhaa Suaamee Ghar Kaa Maas Changaeraa ||
बाहर का मासु मंदा सुआमी घर का मासु चंगेरा ॥
O master, you believe that flesh on the outside is bad, but the flesh of those in your own home is good.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਸਹੁ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਇ ਲਇਆ ਵਾਸੇਰਾ ॥
Jeea Janth Sabh Maasahu Hoeae Jeee Laeiaa Vaasaeraa ||
जीअ जंत सभि मासहु होए जीइ लइआ वासेरा ॥
All beings and creatures are flesh; the soul has taken up its home in the flesh.
ਅਭਖੁ ਭਖਹਿ ਭਖੁ ਤਜਿ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਅੰਧੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨ ਕੇਰਾ ॥
Abhakh Bhakhehi Bhakh Thaj Shhoddehi Andhh Guroo Jin Kaeraa ||
अभखु भखहि भखु तजि छोडहि अंधु गुरू जिन केरा ॥
They eat the uneatable; they reject and abandon what they could eat. They have a teacher who is blind.

मासु पुराणी मासु कतेबीं चहु जुगि मासु कमाणा ॥
Meat is allowed in the Puraanas, meat is allowed in the Bible and the Koran. Throughout the four ages, meat has been used.
ਜਜਿ ਕਾਜਿ ਵੀਆਹਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ਓਥੈ ਮਾਸੁ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥
Jaj Kaaj Veeaahi Suhaavai Outhhai Maas Samaanaa ||
जजि काजि वीआहि सुहावै ओथै मासु समाणा ॥
It is featured in sacred feasts and marriage festivities; meat is used in them.

इसत्री पुरख निपजहि मासहु पातिसाह सुलतानां ॥
Women, men, kings and emperors originate from meat.
ਜੇ ਓਇ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਨਰਕਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਾ ਦਾਨੁ ਨ ਲੈਣਾ ॥
Jae Oue Dhisehi Narak Jaandhae Thaan Ounh Kaa Dhaan N Lainaa ||
जे ओइ दिसहि नरकि जांदे तां उन्ह का दानु न लैणा ॥
If you see them going to hell, then do not accept charitable gifts from them.
ਦੇਂਦਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਲੈਦੇ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਏਹੁ ਧਿਙਾਣਾ ॥
Dhaenadhaa Narak Surag Laidhae Dhaekhahu Eaehu Dhhin(g)aanaa ||
देंदा नरकि सुरगि लैदे देखहु एहु धिङाणा ॥
The giver goes to hell, while the receiver goes to heaven - look at this injustice.
ਆਪਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਲੋਕ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਪਾਂਡੇ ਖਰਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
Aap N Boojhai Lok Bujhaaeae Paanddae Kharaa Siaanaa ||
आपि न बूझै लोक बुझाए पांडे खरा सिआणा ॥
You do not understand your own self, but you preach to other people. O Pandit, you are very wise indeed.
ਪਾਂਡੇ ਤੂ ਜਾਣੈ ਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਥਹੁ ਮਾਸੁ ਉਪੰਨਾ ॥
Paanddae Thoo Jaanai Hee Naahee Kithhahu Maas Oupannaa ||
पांडे तू जाणै ही नाही किथहु मासु उपंना ॥
O Pandit, you do not know where meat originated.
ਤੋਇਅਹੁ ਅੰਨੁ ਕਮਾਦੁ ਕਪਾਹਾਂ ਤੋਇਅਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਗੰਨਾ ॥
Thoeiahu Ann Kamaadh Kapaahaan Thoeiahu Thribhavan Gannaa ||
तोइअहु अंनु कमादु कपाहां तोइअहु त्रिभवणु गंना ॥
Corn, sugar cane and cotton are produced from water. The three worlds came from water.
ਤੋਆ ਆਖੈ ਹਉ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਹਛਾ ਤੋਐ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
Thoaa Aakhai Ho Bahu Bidhh Hashhaa Thoai Bahuth Bikaaraa ||
तोआ आखै हउ बहु बिधि हछा तोऐ बहुतु बिकारा ॥
Water says, ""I am good in many ways."" But water takes many forms.
ਏਤੇ ਰਸ ਛੋਡਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
Eaethae Ras Shhodd Hovai Sanniaasee Naanak Kehai Vichaaraa ||2||
एते रस छोडि होवै संनिआसी नानकु कहै विचारा ॥२॥
Forsaking these delicacies, one becomes a true Sannyaasee, a detached hermit. Nanak reflects and speaks. ||2||

हउ किआ आखा इक जीभ तेरा अंतु न किन ही पाइआ ॥
What can I say with only one tongue? I cannot find your limits.
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਸੇ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
Sachaa Sabadh Veechaar Sae Thujh Hee Maahi Samaaeiaa ||
सचा सबदु वीचारि से तुझ ही माहि समाइआ ॥
Those who contemplate the True Word of the Shabad are absorbed into You, O Lord.
ਇਕਿ ਭਗਵਾ ਵੇਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਰਮਦੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Eik Bhagavaa Vaes Kar Bharamadhae Vin Sathigur Kinai N Paaeiaa ||
इकि भगवा वेसु करि भरमदे विणु सतिगुर किनै न पाइआ ॥
Some wander around in saffron robes, but without the True Guru, no one finds the Lord.
ਦੇਸ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
Dhaes Dhisanthar Bhav Thhakae Thudhh Andhar Aap Lukaaeiaa ||
देस दिसंतर भवि थके तुधु अंदरि आपु लुकाइआ ॥
They wander in foreign lands and countries until they grow weary, but You hide Yourself within them.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਤੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Rathann Hai Kar Chaanan Aap Dhikhaaeiaa ||
गुर का सबदु रतंनु है करि चानणु आपि दिखाइआ ॥
The Word of the Guru's Shabad is a jewel, through which the Lord shines forth and reveals Himself.
ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
Aapanaa Aap Pashhaaniaa Guramathee Sach Samaaeiaa ||
आपणा आपु पछाणिआ गुरमती सचि समाइआ ॥
Realizing one's own self, following the Guru's Teachings, the mortal is absorbed into Truth.
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਬਜਾਰੀਆ ਬਾਜਾਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
Aavaa Goun Bajaareeaa Baajaar Jinee Rachaaeiaa ||
आवा गउणु बजारीआ बाजारु जिनी रचाइआ ॥
Coming and going, the tricksters and magicians put on their magic show.
ਇਕੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਸਚਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੨੫॥
Eik Thhir Sachaa Saalaahanaa Jin Man Sachaa Bhaaeiaa ||25||
इकु थिरु सचा सालाहणा जिन मनि सचा भाइआ ॥२५॥
But those whose minds are pleased by the True Lord, praise the True One, the Ever-stable Lord. ||25||

Naanak Maaeiaa Karam Birakh Fal Anmrith Fal Vis ||
नानक माइआ करम बिरखु फल अम्रित फल विसु ॥
O Nanak, the tree of actions done in Maya yields ambrosial fruit and poisonous fruit.
ਸਭ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਖਵਾਲੇ ਤਿਸੁ ॥੧॥
Sabh Kaaran Karathaa Karae Jis Khavaalae This ||1||
सभ कारण करता करे जिसु खवाले तिसु ॥१॥
The Creator does all deeds; we eat the fruits as He ordains. ||1||

नानक दुनीआ कीआं वडिआईआं अगी सेती जालि ॥
O Nanak, burn worldly greatness and glory in the fire.
ਏਨੀ ਜਲੀਈਂ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਇਕ ਨ ਚਲੀਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
Eaenee Jaleeeen Naam Visaariaa Eik N Chaleeaa Naal ||2||
एनी जलीईं नामु विसारिआ इक न चलीआ नालि ॥२॥
These burnt offerings have caused mortals to forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Not even one of them will go along with you in the end. ||2||

सिरि सिरि होइ निबेड़ु हुकमि चलाइआ ॥
He judges each and every being; by the Hukam of His Command, He leads us on.
ਤੇਰੈ ਹਥਿ ਨਿਬੇੜੁ ਤੂਹੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
Thaerai Hathh Nibaerr Thoohai Man Bhaaeiaa ||
तेरै हथि निबेड़ु तूहै मनि भाइआ ॥
Justice is in Your Hands, O Lord; You are pleasing to my mind.
ਕਾਲੁ ਚਲਾਏ ਬੰਨਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰਖਸੀ ॥
Kaal Chalaaeae Bann Koe N Rakhasee ||
कालु चलाए बंनि कोइ न रखसी ॥
The mortal is bound and gagged by Death and lead away; no one can rescue him.
ਜਰੁ ਜਰਵਾਣਾ ਕੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਚੜਿਆ ਨਚਸੀ ॥
Jar Jaravaanaa Kannih Charriaa Nachasee ||
जरु जरवाणा कंन्हि चड़िआ नचसी ॥
Old age, the tyrant, dances on the mortal's shoulders.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਬੇੜੁ ਸਚਾ ਰਖਸੀ ॥
Sathigur Bohithh Baerr Sachaa Rakhasee ||
सतिगुरु बोहिथु बेड़ु सचा रखसी ॥
So climb aboard the boat of the True Guru, and the True Lord will rescue you.
ਅਗਨਿ ਭਖੈ ਭੜਹਾੜੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਖਸੀ ॥
Agan Bhakhai Bharrehaarr Anadhin Bhakhasee ||
अगनि भखै भड़हाड़ु अनदिनु भखसी ॥
The fire of desire burns like an oven, consuming mortals night and day.
ਫਾਥਾ ਚੁਗੈ ਚੋਗ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਛੁਟਸੀ ॥
Faathhaa Chugai Chog Hukamee Shhuttasee ||
फाथा चुगै चोग हुकमी छुटसी ॥
Like trapped birds, the mortals peck at the corn; only through the Lord's Command will they find release.
ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਗੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਨਿਖੁਟਸੀ ॥੨੬॥
Karathaa Karae S Hog Koorr Nikhuttasee ||26||
करता करे सु होगु कूड़ु निखुटसी ॥२६॥
Whatever the Creator does, comes to pass; falsehood shall fail in the end. ||26||
