मेरे मन जपु जपि जगंनाथे ॥
O my mind, chant and meditate on the Master of the Universe.
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Gur Oupadhaes Har Naam Dhhiaaeiou Sabh Kilabikh Dhukh Laathhae ||1|| Rehaao ||
गुर उपदेसि हरि नामु धिआइओ सभि किलबिख दुख लाथे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Through the Guru's Teachings, meditate on the Lord's Name, and be rid of all the painful past sins. ||1||Pause||
ਰਸਨਾ ਏਕ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਇ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਬਹੁ ਰਸੁਨਥੇ ॥
Rasanaa Eaek Jas Gaae N Saakai Bahu Keejai Bahu Rasunathhae ||
रसना एक जसु गाइ न साकै बहु कीजै बहु रसुनथे ॥
I have only one tongue - I cannot sing His Praises. Please bless me with many, many tongues.
ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲ ਸਭਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਨ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਨਥੇ ॥੧॥
Baar Baar Khin Pal Sabh Gaavehi Gun Kehi N Sakehi Prabh Thumanathhae ||1||
बार बार खिनु पल सभि गावहि गुन कहि न सकहि प्रभ तुमनथे ॥१॥
Again and again, each and every instant, with all of them, I would sing His Glorious Praises; but even then, I would not be able to sing all of Your Praises, God. ||1||
ਹਮ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਮ ਲੋਚਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਿਖਨਥੇ ॥
Ham Bahu Preeth Lagee Prabh Suaamee Ham Locheh Prabh Dhikhanathhae ||
हम बहु प्रीति लगी प्रभ सुआमी हम लोचह प्रभु दिखनथे ॥
I am so deeply in love with God, my Lord and Master; I long to see God's Vision.
ਤੁਮ ਬਡ ਦਾਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੀਅਨ ਕੇ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਹਮ ਬਿਰਥੇ ॥੨॥
Thum Badd Dhaathae Jeea Jeean Kae Thum Jaanahu Ham Birathhae ||2||
तुम बड दाते जीअ जीअन के तुम जानहु हम बिरथे ॥२॥
You are the Great Giver of all beings and creatures; only You know our inner pain. ||2||
ਕੋਈ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੰਥੁ ਬਤਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਕਹੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਿਆ ਦਿਨਥੇ ॥
Koee Maarag Panthh Bathaavai Prabh Kaa Kahu Thin Ko Kiaa Dhinathhae ||
कोई मारगु पंथु बतावै प्रभ का कहु तिन कउ किआ दिनथे ॥
If only someone would show me the Way, the Path of God. Tell me - what could I give him?
ਸਭੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਅਰਪਿ ਅਰਾਪਉ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਥੇ ॥੩॥
Sabh Than Man Arapo Arap Araapo Koee Maelai Prabh Milathhae ||3||
सभु तनु मनु अरपउ अरपि अरापउ कोई मेलै प्रभ मिलथे ॥३॥
I would surrender, offer and dedicate all my body and mind to him; if only someone would unite me in God's Union! ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਮ ਤੁਛ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਰਨਥੇ ॥
Har Kae Gun Bahuth Bahuth Bahu Sobhaa Ham Thushh Kar Kar Baranathhae ||
हरि के गुन बहुत बहुत बहु सोभा हम तुछ करि करि बरनथे ॥
The Glorious Praises of the Lord are so many and numerous; I can describe only a tiny bit of them.
ਹਮਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਮਰਥੇ ॥੪॥੩॥
Hamaree Math Vasagath Prabh Thumarai Jan Naanak Kae Prabh Samarathhae ||4||3||
हमरी मति वसगति प्रभ तुमरै जन नानक के प्रभ समरथे ॥४॥३॥
My intellect is under Your control, God; You are the All-powerful Lord God of servant Nanak. ||4||3||

मेरे मन जपि हरि गुन अकथ सुनथई ॥
O my mind, chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, which are said to be inexpressible.
ਧਰਮੁ ਅਰਥੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਾਮੁ ਮੋਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਨ ਪੀਛੈ ਲਗਿ ਫਿਰਥਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dhharam Arathh Sabh Kaam Mokh Hai Jan Peeshhai Lag Firathhee ||1|| Rehaao ||
धरमु अरथु सभु कामु मोखु है जन पीछै लगि फिरथई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Rightousness and Dharmic faith, success and prosperity, pleasure, the fulfillment of desires and liberation - all follow the humble servant of the Lord like a shadow. ||1||Pause||
ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਡਭਾਗ ਮਥਈ ॥
So Har Har Naam Dhhiaavai Har Jan Jis Baddabhaag Mathhee ||
सो हरि हरि नामु धिआवै हरि जनु जिसु बडभाग मथई ॥
That humble servant of the Lord who has such good fortune written on his forehead meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਜਹ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਮਾਗੈ ਤਹ ਛੁਟੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਥਈ ॥੧॥
Jeh Dharagehi Prabh Laekhaa Maagai Theh Shhuttai Naam Dhhiaaeithhee ||1||
जह दरगहि प्रभु लेखा मागै तह छुटै नामु धिआइथई ॥१॥
In that Court, where God calls for the accounts, there, you shall be saved only by meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਹਮਰੇ ਦੋਖ ਬਹੁ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਲਗਥਈ ॥
Hamarae Dhokh Bahu Janam Janam Kae Dhukh Houmai Mail Lagathhee ||
हमरे दोख बहु जनम जनम के दुखु हउमै मैलु लगथई ॥
I am stained with the filth of the mistakes of countless lifetimes, the pain and pollution of egotism.
ਗੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਲਿ ਨਾਵਾਏ ਸਭ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਗਥਈ ॥੨॥
Gur Dhhaar Kirapaa Har Jal Naavaaeae Sabh Kilabikh Paap Gathhee ||2||
गुरि धारि क्रिपा हरि जलि नावाए सभ किलबिख पाप गथई ॥२॥
Showering His Mercy, the Guru bathed me in the Water of the Lord, and all my sins and mistakes were taken away. ||2||
ਜਨ ਕੈ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਜਥਈ ॥
Jan Kai Ridh Anthar Prabh Suaamee Jan Har Har Naam Bhajathhee ||
जन कै रिद अंतरि प्रभु सुआमी जन हरि हरि नामु भजथई ॥
God, our Lord and Master, is deep within the hearts of His humble servants. They vibrate the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਜਹ ਅੰਤੀ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਆਇ ਬਨਤੁ ਹੈ ਤਹ ਰਾਖੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਥਈ ॥੩॥
Jeh Anthee Aousar Aae Banath Hai Theh Raakhai Naam Saathhee ||3||
जह अंती अउसरु आइ बनतु है तह राखै नामु साथई ॥३॥
And when that very last moment comes, then the Naam is our Best Friend and Protector. ||3||
ਜਨ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਜਗੰਨਥਈ ॥
Jan Thaeraa Jas Gaavehi Har Har Prabh Har Japiou Jagannathhee ||
जन तेरा जसु गावहि हरि हरि प्रभ हरि जपिओ जगंनथई ॥
Your humble servants sing Your Praises, O Lord, Har, Har; they chant and meditate on the Lord God, the Master of the Universe.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਮ ਪਾਥਰ ਰਖੁ ਬੁਡਥਈ ॥੪॥੪॥
Jan Naanak Kae Prabh Raakhae Suaamee Ham Paathhar Rakh Buddathhee ||4||4||
जन नानक के प्रभ राखे सुआमी हम पाथर रखु बुडथई ॥४॥४॥
O God, my Saving Grace, Lord and Master of servant Nanak, please save me, the sinking stone. ||4||4||

हमरी चितवनी हरि प्रभु जानै ॥
Only the Lord God knows my innermost thoughts.
ਅਉਰੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਿੰਦ ਕਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Aour Koee Nindh Karai Har Jan Kee Prabh Thaa Kaa Kehiaa Eik Thil Nehee Maanai ||1|| Rehaao ||
अउरु कोई निंद करै हरि जन की प्रभु ता का कहिआ इकु तिलु नही मानै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
If someone slanders the humble servant of the Lord, God does not believe even a tiny bit of what he says. ||1||Pause||
ਅਉਰ ਸਭ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਿ ਅਚੁਤ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਭਗਵਾਨੈ ॥
Aour Sabh Thiaag Saevaa Kar Achuth Jo Sabh Thae Ooch Thaakur Bhagavaanai ||
अउर सभ तिआगि सेवा करि अचुत जो सभ ते ऊच ठाकुरु भगवानै ॥
So give up everything else, and serve the Imperishable; The Lord God, our Lord and Master, is the Highest of all.
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਕਾਲੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਚਰਨੀ ਆਇ ਪਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੧॥
Har Saevaa Thae Kaal Johi N Saakai Charanee Aae Pavai Har Jaanai ||1||
हरि सेवा ते कालु जोहि न साकै चरनी आइ पवै हरि जानै ॥१॥
When you serve the Lord, Death cannot even see you. It comes and falls at the feet of those who know the Lord. ||1||
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਪੈ ਕਾਨੈ ॥
Jaa Ko Raakh Laee Maeraa Suaamee Thaa Ko Sumath Dhaee Pai Kaanai ||
जा कउ राखि लेइ मेरा सुआमी ता कउ सुमति देइ पै कानै ॥
Those whom my Lord and Master protects - a balanced wisdom comes to their ears.
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕੋਈ ਅਪਰਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੨॥
Thaa Ko Koee Apar N Saakai Jaa Kee Bhagath Maeraa Prabh Maanai ||2||
ता कउ कोई अपरि न साकै जा की भगति मेरा प्रभु मानै ॥२॥
No one can equal them; their devotional worship is accepted by my God. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਨ ਦੇਖੁ ਜਨ ਜੋ ਖੋਟਾ ਖਰਾ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
Har Kae Choj Viddaan Dhaekh Jan Jo Khottaa Kharaa Eik Nimakh Pashhaanai ||
हरि के चोज विडान देखु जन जो खोटा खरा इक निमख पछानै ॥
So behold the Wondrous and Amazing Play of the Lord. In an instant, He distinguishes the genuine from the counterfeit.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ ਰਿਦ ਸੁਧ ਮਿਲੇ ਖੋਟੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੈ ॥੩॥
Thaa Thae Jan Ko Anadh Bhaeiaa Hai Ridh Sudhh Milae Khottae Pashhuthaanai ||3||
ता ते जन कउ अनदु भइआ है रिद सुध मिले खोटे पछुतानै ॥३॥
And that is why His humble servant is in bliss. Those of pure heart meet together, while the evil ones regret and repent. ||3||
ਤੁਮ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਇਕੁ ਮਾਗਉ ਤੁਝ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਨੈ ॥
Thum Har Dhaathae Samarathh Suaamee Eik Maago Thujh Paasahu Har Dhaanai ||
तुम हरि दाते समरथ सुआमी इकु मागउ तुझ पासहु हरि दानै ॥
Lord, You are the Great Giver, our All-powerful Lord and Master; O Lord, I beg for only one gift from You.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਸਦ ਬਸਹਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਾਨੈ ॥੪॥੫॥
Jan Naanak Ko Har Kirapaa Kar Dheejai Sadh Basehi Ridhai Mohi Har Charaanai ||4||5||
जन नानक कउ हरि क्रिपा करि दीजै सद बसहि रिदै मोहि हरि चरानै ॥४॥५॥
Lord, please bless servant Nanak with Your Grace, that Your Feet may abide forever within my heart. ||4||5||
