ਅੰਧੀ ਰਯਤਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣੀ ਭਾਹਿ ਭਰੇ ਮੁਰਦਾਰੁ ॥
Andhhee Rayath Giaan Vihoonee Bhaahi Bharae Muradhaar ||
अंधी रयति गिआन विहूणी भाहि भरे मुरदारु ॥
Their subjects are blind, and without wisdom, they try to please the will of the dead.
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਨਚਹਿ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਾਵਹਿ ਰੂਪ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
Giaanee Nachehi Vaajae Vaavehi Roop Karehi Seegaar ||
गिआनी नचहि वाजे वावहि रूप करहि सीगारु ॥
The spiritually wise dance and play their musical instruments, adorning themselves with beautiful decorations.
ਊਚੇ ਕੂਕਹਿ ਵਾਦਾ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜੋਧਾ ਕਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Oochae Kookehi Vaadhaa Gaavehi Jodhhaa Kaa Veechaar ||
ऊचे कूकहि वादा गावहि जोधा का वीचारु ॥
They shout out loud, and sing epic poems and heroic stories.
ਮੂਰਖ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਹਿਕਮਤਿ ਹੁਜਤਿ ਸੰਜੈ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Moorakh Panddith Hikamath Hujath Sanjai Karehi Piaar ||
मूरख पंडित हिकमति हुजति संजै करहि पिआरु ॥
The fools call themselves spiritual scholars, and by their clever tricks, they love to gather wealth.
ਧਰਮੀ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਗਾਵਾਵਹਿ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
Dhharamee Dhharam Karehi Gaavaavehi Mangehi Mokh Dhuaar ||
धरमी धरमु करहि गावावहि मंगहि मोख दुआरु ॥
The righteous waste their righteousness, by asking for the door of salvation.
ਜਤੀ ਸਦਾਵਹਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਛਡਿ ਬਹਹਿ ਘਰ ਬਾਰੁ ॥
Jathee Sadhaavehi Jugath N Jaanehi Shhadd Behehi Ghar Baar ||
जती सदावहि जुगति न जाणहि छडि बहहि घर बारु ॥
They call themselves celibate, and abandon their homes, but they do not know the true way of life.
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਘਟਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਆਖੈ ॥
Sabh Ko Pooraa Aapae Hovai Ghatt N Koee Aakhai ||
सभु को पूरा आपे होवै घटि न कोई आखै ॥
Everyone calls himself perfect; none call themselves imperfect.
ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ਪਿਛੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੋਲਿਆ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੨॥
Path Paravaanaa Pishhai Paaeeai Thaa Naanak Tholiaa Jaapai ||2||
पति परवाणा पिछै पाईऐ ता नानक तोलिआ जापै ॥२॥
If the weight of honor is placed on the scale, then, O Nanak, one sees his true weight. ||2||

वदी सु वजगि नानका सचा वेखै सोइ ॥
Evil actions become publicly known; O Nanak, the True Lord sees everything.
ਸਭਨੀ ਛਾਲਾ ਮਾਰੀਆ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Sabhanee Shhaalaa Maareeaa Karathaa Karae S Hoe ||
सभनी छाला मारीआ करता करे सु होइ ॥
Everyone makes the attempt, but that alone happens which the Creator Lord does.
ਅਗੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਜੋਰੁ ਹੈ ਅਗੈ ਜੀਉ ਨਵੇ ॥
Agai Jaath N Jor Hai Agai Jeeo Navae ||
अगै जाति न जोरु है अगै जीउ नवे ॥
In the world hereafter, social status and power mean nothing; hereafter, the soul is new.
ਜਿਨ ਕੀ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਵੈ ਚੰਗੇ ਸੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥੩॥

ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਜਿਨਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਤਿਨੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
Dhhur Karam Jinaa Ko Thudhh Paaeiaa Thaa Thinee Khasam Dhhiaaeiaa ||
धुरि करमु जिना कउ तुधु पाइआ ता तिनी खसमु धिआइआ ॥
Only those whose karma You have pre-ordained from the very beginning, O Lord, meditate on You.
ਏਨਾ ਜੰਤਾ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਵੇਕੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
Eaenaa Janthaa Kai Vas Kishh Naahee Thudhh Vaekee Jagath Oupaaeiaa ||
एना जंता कै वसि किछु नाही तुधु वेकी जगतु उपाइआ ॥
Nothing is in the power of these beings; You created the various worlds.
ਇਕਨਾ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਆਪਹੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਖੁਆਇਆ ॥
Eikanaa No Thoon Mael Laihi Eik Aapahu Thudhh Khuaaeiaa ||
इकना नो तूं मेलि लैहि इकि आपहु तुधु खुआइआ ॥
Some, You unite with Yourself, and some, You lead astray.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਿਥੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ॥
Gur Kirapaa Thae Jaaniaa Jithhai Thudhh Aap Bujhaaeiaa ||
गुर किरपा ते जाणिआ जिथै तुधु आपु बुझाइआ ॥
By Guru's Grace You are known; through Him, You reveal Yourself.
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥

Dhukh Dhaaroo Sukh Rog Bhaeiaa Jaa Sukh Thaam N Hoee ||
दुखु दारू सुखु रोगु भइआ जा सुखु तामि न होई ॥
Suffering is the medicine, and pleasure the disease, because where there is pleasure, there is no desire for God.
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣਾ ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾ ਹਉ ਕਰੀ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
Thoon Karathaa Karanaa Mai Naahee Jaa Ho Karee N Hoee ||1||
तूं करता करणा मै नाही जा हउ करी न होई ॥१॥
You are the Creator Lord; I can do nothing. Even if I try, nothing happens. ||1||

I am a sacrifice to Your almighty creative power which is pervading everywhere.

Jaath Mehi Joth Joth Mehi Jaathaa Akal Kalaa Bharapoor Rehiaa ||
जाति महि जोति जोति महि जाता अकल कला भरपूरि रहिआ ॥
Your Light is in Your creatures, and Your creatures are in Your Light; Your almighty power is pervading everywhere.
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸੁਆਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੋ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਇਆ ॥
Thoon Sachaa Saahib Sifath Suaaliho Jin Keethee So Paar Paeiaa ||
तूं सचा साहिबु सिफति सुआल्हिउ जिनि कीती सो पारि पइआ ॥
You are the True Lord and Master; Your Praise is so beautiful. One who sings it, is carried across.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤੇ ਕੀਆ ਬਾਤਾ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੨॥

कहु नानक करते कीआ बाता जो किछु करणा सु करि रहिआ ॥२॥

जोग सबदं गिआन सबदं बेद सबदं ब्राहमणह ॥
The Way of Yoga is the Way of spiritual wisdom; the Vedas are the Way of the Brahmins.
ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਬਦੰ ਸੂਰ ਸਬਦੰ ਸੂਦ੍ਰ ਸਬਦੰ ਪਰਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਤਹ ॥
Khathree Sabadhan Soor Sabadhan Soodhr Sabadhan Paraa Kiratheh ||
खत्री सबदं सूर सबदं सूद्र सबदं परा क्रितह ॥
The Way of the Khshatriya is the Way of bravery; the Way of the Shudras is service to others.
ਸਰਬ ਸਬਦੰ ਏਕ ਸਬਦੰ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਭੇਉ ॥
Sarab Sabadhan Eaek Sabadhan Jae Ko Jaanai Bhaeo ||
सरब सबदं एक सबदं जे को जाणै भेउ ॥
The Way of all is the Way of the One; Nanak is a slave to one who knows this secret;
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥੩॥
Naanak Thaa Kaa Dhaas Hai Soee Niranjan Dhaeo ||3||
नानकु ता का दासु है सोई निरंजन देउ ॥३॥
He himself is the Immaculate Divine Lord. ||3||

Eaek Kirasanan Sarab Dhaevaa Dhaev Dhaevaa Th Aathamaa ||
एक क्रिसनं सरब देवा देव देवा त आतमा ॥
The One Lord Krishna is the Divine Lord of all; He is the Divinity of the individual soul.
ਆਤਮਾ ਬਾਸੁਦੇਵਸ੍ਯ੍ਯਿ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਭੇਉ ॥
Aathamaa Baasudhaevasiy Jae Ko Jaanai Bhaeo ||
आतमा बासुदेवस्यि जे को जाणै भेउ ॥
Nanak is a slave to anyone who understands this mystery of the all-pervading Lord;
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥੪॥

कु्मभे बधा जलु रहै जल बिनु कु्मभु न होइ ॥
Water remains confined within the pitcher, but without water, the pitcher could not have been formed;
ਗਿਆਨ ਕਾ ਬਧਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥
Giaan Kaa Badhhaa Man Rehai Gur Bin Giaan N Hoe ||5||
गिआन का बधा मनु रहै गुर बिनु गिआनु न होइ ॥५॥
Just so, the mind is restrained by spiritual wisdom, but without the Guru, there is no spiritual wisdom. ||5||

पड़िआ होवै गुनहगारु ता ओमी साधु न मारीऐ ॥
If an educated person is a sinner, then the illiterate holy man is not to be punished.
ਜੇਹਾ ਘਾਲੇ ਘਾਲਣਾ ਤੇਵੇਹੋ ਨਾਉ ਪਚਾਰੀਐ ॥
Jaehaa Ghaalae Ghaalanaa Thaevaeho Naao Pachaareeai ||
जेहा घाले घालणा तेवेहो नाउ पचारीऐ ॥
As are the deeds done, so is the reputation one acquires.
ਐਸੀ ਕਲਾ ਨ ਖੇਡੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਗਇਆ ਹਾਰੀਐ ॥
Aisee Kalaa N Khaeddeeai Jith Dharageh Gaeiaa Haareeai ||
ऐसी कला न खेडीऐ जितु दरगह गइआ हारीऐ ॥
So do not play such a game, which will bring you to ruin at the Court of the Lord.
ਪੜਿਆ ਅਤੈ ਓਮੀਆ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ਅਗੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ॥
Parriaa Athai Oumeeaa Veechaar Agai Veechaareeai ||
पड़िआ अतै ओमीआ वीचारु अगै वीचारीऐ ॥
The accounts of the educated and the illiterate shall be judged in the world hereafter.
ਮੁਹਿ ਚਲੈ ਸੁ ਅਗੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ॥੧੨॥
Muhi Chalai S Agai Maareeai ||12||
मुहि चलै सु अगै मारीऐ ॥१२॥
One who stubbornly follows his own mind shall suffer in the world hereafter. ||12||
