ਏਹ ਕਿਨੇਹੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਉ ਖਸਮ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Eaeh Kinaehee Chaakaree Jith Bho Khasam N Jaae ||
एह किनेही चाकरी जितु भउ खसम न जाइ ॥
What sort of service is this, by which the fear of the Lord Master does not depart?
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕਾਢੀਐ ਜਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਖਸਮ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

नानक सेवकु काढीऐ जि सेती खसम समाइ ॥२॥

O Nanak, the Lord's limits cannot be known; He has no end or limitation.
ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਸਾਖਤੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਮਾਰ ॥
Aap Karaaeae Saakhathee Fir Aap Karaaeae Maar ||
आपि कराए साखती फिरि आपि कराए मार ॥
He Himself creates, and then He Himself destroys.
ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਗਲੀ ਜੰਜੀਰੀਆ ਇਕਿ ਤੁਰੀ ਚੜਹਿ ਬਿਸੀਆਰ ॥
Eikanhaa Galee Janjeereeaa Eik Thuree Charrehi Biseeaar ||
इकन्हा गली जंजीरीआ इकि तुरी चड़हि बिसीआर ॥
Some have chains around their necks, while some ride on many horses.
ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਹਉ ਕੈ ਸਿਉ ਕਰੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
Aap Karaaeae Karae Aap Ho Kai Sio Karee Pukaar ||
आपि कराए करे आपि हउ कै सिउ करी पुकार ॥
He Himself acts, and He Himself causes us to act. Unto whom should I complain?

ਆਪੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਸਾਜਿਅਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਪੂਰਣੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
Aapae Bhaanddae Saajian Aapae Pooran Dhaee ||
आपे भांडे साजिअनु आपे पूरणु देइ ॥
He Himself fashioned the vessel of the body, and He Himself fills it.
ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਦੁਧੁ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਇਕਿ ਚੁਲ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਰਹਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਚੜੇ ॥
Eikanhee Dhudhh Samaaeeai Eik Chulhai Rehanih Charrae ||
इकन्ही दुधु समाईऐ इकि चुल्है रहन्हि चड़े ॥
Into some, milk is poured, while others remain on the fire.
ਇਕਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ਪੈ ਸਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਉਪਰਿ ਰਹਨਿ ਖੜੇ ॥
Eik Nihaalee Pai Savanih Eik Oupar Rehan Kharrae ||
इकि निहाली पै सवन्हि इकि उपरि रहनि खड़े ॥
Some lie down and sleep on soft beds, while others remain watchful.
ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੧॥

तिन्हा सवारे नानका जिन्ह कउ नदरि करे ॥१॥
He adorns those, O Nanak, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace. ||1||

आपे साजे करे आपि जाई भि रखै आपि ॥
He Himself creates and fashions the world, and He Himself keeps it in order.
ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਦੇਖੈ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ॥
This Vich Janth Oupaae Kai Dhaekhai Thhaap Outhhaap ||
तिसु विचि जंत उपाइ कै देखै थापि उथापि ॥
Having created the beings within it, He oversees their birth and death.
ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥੨॥

किस नो कहीऐ नानका सभु किछु आपे आपि ॥२॥

वडे कीआ वडिआईआ किछु कहणा कहणु न जाइ ॥
The description of the greatness of the Great Lord cannot be described.
ਸੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਾਦਰ ਕਰੀਮੁ ਦੇ ਜੀਆ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਿ ॥
So Karathaa Kaadhar Kareem Dhae Jeeaa Rijak Sanbaahi ||
सो करता कादर करीमु दे जीआ रिजकु स्मबाहि ॥
He is the Creator, all-lowerful and benevolent; He gives sustenance to all beings.
ਸਾਈ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਧੁਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਤਿੰਨੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
Saaee Kaar Kamaavanee Dhhur Shhoddee Thinnai Paae ||
साई कार कमावणी धुरि छोडी तिंनै पाइ ॥
The mortal does that work, which has been pre-destined from the very beginning.
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੀ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
Naanak Eaekee Baaharee Hor Dhoojee Naahee Jaae ||
नानक एकी बाहरी होर दूजी नाही जाइ ॥
O Nanak, except for the One Lord, there is no other place at all.

गुर चरण लागि हम बिनवता पूछत कह जीउ पाइआ ॥
Falling at the Feet of the Guru, I pray, and ask Him, ""Why was man created?
ਕਵਨ ਕਾਜਿ ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਕਹਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Kavan Kaaj Jag Oupajai Binasai Kehahu Mohi Samajhaaeiaa ||1||
कवन काजि जगु उपजै बिनसै कहहु मोहि समझाइआ ॥१॥
What deeds cause the world to come into being, and be destroyed? Tell me, that I may understand.""||1||
ਦੇਵ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਭੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟੈ ॥
Dhaev Karahu Dhaeiaa Mohi Maarag Laavahu Jith Bhai Bandhhan Thoottai ||
देव करहु दइआ मोहि मारगि लावहु जितु भै बंधन तूटै ॥
O Divine Guru, please, show Mercy to me, and place me on the right path, by which the bonds of fear may be cut away.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖ ਫੇੜ ਕਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਜੀਅ ਜਨਮ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Janam Maran Dhukh Faerr Karam Sukh Jeea Janam Thae Shhoottai ||1|| Rehaao ||
जनम मरन दुख फेड़ करम सुख जीअ जनम ते छूटै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The pains of birth and death come from past actions and karma; peace comes when the soul finds release from reincarnation. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਫਾਸ ਬੰਧ ਨਹੀ ਫਾਰੈ ਅਰੁ ਮਨ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਨ ਲੂਕੇ ॥
Maaeiaa Faas Bandhh Nehee Faarai Ar Man Sunn N Lookae ||
माइआ फास बंध नही फारै अरु मन सुंनि न लूके ॥
The mortal does not break free from the bonds of the noose of Maya, and he does not seek the shelter of the profound, absolute Lord.
ਆਪਾ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਅਭਿਉ ਨ ਚੂਕੇ ॥੨॥
Aapaa Padh Nirabaan N Cheenihaaa Ein Bidhh Abhio N Chookae ||2||
आपा पदु निरबाणु न चीन्हिआ इन बिधि अभिउ न चूके ॥२॥
He does not realize the dignity of the self, and Nirvaanaa; because of this, his doubt does not depart. ||2||
ਕਹੀ ਨ ਉਪਜੈ ਉਪਜੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਭਾਵ ਅਭਾਵ ਬਿਹੂਣਾ ॥
Kehee N Oupajai Oupajee Jaanai Bhaav Abhaav Bihoonaa ||
कही न उपजै उपजी जाणै भाव अभाव बिहूणा ॥
The soul is not born, even though he thinks it is born; it is free from birth and death.
ਉਦੈ ਅਸਤ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਨਾਸੀ ਤਉ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਲਿਵ ਲੀਣਾ ॥੩॥
Oudhai Asath Kee Man Budhh Naasee Tho Sadhaa Sehaj Liv Leenaa ||3||
उदै असत की मन बुधि नासी तउ सदा सहजि लिव लीणा ॥३॥
When the mortal gives up his ideas of birth and death, he remains constantly absorbed in the Lord's Love. ||3||
ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਬਿੰਬੁ ਬਿੰਬ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ ਉਦਕ ਕੁੰਭੁ ਬਿਗਰਾਨਾ ॥
Jio Prathibinb Binb Ko Milee Hai Oudhak Kunbh Bigaraanaa ||
जिउ प्रतिबि्मबु बि्मब कउ मिली है उदक कु्मभु बिगराना ॥
As the reflection of an object blends in the water when the pitcher is broken,
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸਾ ਗੁਣ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਨਾਂ ॥੪॥੧॥
Kahu Kabeer Aisaa Gun Bhram Bhaagaa Tho Man Sunn Samaanaan ||4||1||
कहु कबीर ऐसा गुण भ्रमु भागा तउ मनु सुंनि समानां ॥४॥१॥
Says Kabeer, just so virtue dispels doubt, and then the soul is absorbed in the profound, absolute Lord. ||4||1||
