गलि जेवड़ी आपे पाइदा पिआरा जिउ प्रभु खिंचै तिउ जाहा ॥
The Beloved Himself puts the chains around their necks; as God pulls them, must they go.

Anik Janam Vishhurrae Dhukh Paaeiaa Manamukh Karam Karai Ahankaaree ||
अनिक जनम विछुड़े दुखु पाइआ मनमुखि करम करै अहंकारी ॥
Separated from the Lord for countless lifetimes, the self-willed manmukh suffers in pain, engaged in acts of egotism.

Thoo Hiradhai Gupath Vasehi Dhin Raathee Thaeraa Bhaao N Bujhehi Gavaaree ||
तू हिरदै गुपतु वसहि दिनु राती तेरा भाउ न बुझहि गवारी ॥
You dwell, hidden, within my heart day and night, Lord; but the poor fools do not understand Your Love.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥

सतिगुरु पुरखु मिलिआ प्रभु प्रगटिआ गुण गावै गुण वीचारी ॥२॥
Meeting with the Almighty True Guru, God was revealed to me; I sing His Glorious Praises, and reflect upon His Glories. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਾਤਿ ਆਈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥
Guramukh Pragaas Bhaeiaa Saath Aaee Dhuramath Budhh Nivaaree ||
गुरमुखि प्रगासु भइआ साति आई दुरमति बुधि निवारी ॥
As Gurmukh, I have become enlightened; peace has come, and evil-mindedness has been dispelled from my mind.
ਆਤਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
Aatham Breham Cheen Sukh Paaeiaa Sathasangath Purakh Thumaaree ||3||
आतम ब्रहमु चीनि सुखु पाइआ सतसंगति पुरख तुमारी ॥३॥
Understanding the relationship of the individual soul with God, I have found peace, in Your Sat Sangat, Your True Congregation, O Lord. ||3||
ਪੁਰਖੈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਈ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥
Purakhai Purakh Miliaa Gur Paaeiaa Jin Ko Kirapaa Bhee Thumaaree ||
पुरखै पुरखु मिलिआ गुरु पाइआ जिन कउ किरपा भई तुमारी ॥
Those who are blessed by Your Kind Mercy, meet the Almighty Lord, and find the Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੭॥

नानक अतुलु सहज सुखु पाइआ अनदिनु जागतु रहै बनवारी ॥४॥७॥
Nanak has found the immeasurable, celestial peace; night and day, he remains awake to the Lord, the Master of the Forest of the Universe. ||4||7||

Har Sio Preeth Anthar Man Baedhhiaa Har Bin Rehan N Jaaee ||
हरि सिउ प्रीति अंतरु मनु बेधिआ हरि बिनु रहणु न जाई ॥
The inner depths of my mind are pierced by love for the Lord; I cannot live without the Lord.
ਜਿਉ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਰੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

जिउ मछुली बिनु नीरै बिनसै तिउ नामै बिनु मरि जाई ॥१॥
Just as the fish dies without water, I die without the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਈ ॥
Maerae Prabh Kirapaa Jal Dhaevahu Har Naaee ||
मेरे प्रभ किरपा जलु देवहु हरि नाई ॥
O my God, please bless me with the water of Your Name.
ਹਉ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਗਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Ho Anthar Naam Mangaa Dhin Raathee Naamae Hee Saanth Paaee || Rehaao ||
हउ अंतरि नामु मंगा दिनु राती नामे ही सांति पाई ॥ रहाउ ॥
I beg for Your Name, deep within myself, day and night; through the Name, I find peace. ||Pause||
ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਲਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
Jio Chaathrik Jal Bin Bilalaavai Bin Jal Piaas N Jaaee ||
जिउ चात्रिकु जल बिनु बिललावै बिनु जल पिआस न जाई ॥
The song-bird cries out for lack of water - without water, its thirst cannot be quenched.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿਆ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੨॥
Guramukh Jal Paavai Sukh Sehajae Hariaa Bhaae Subhaaee ||2||
गुरमुखि जलु पावै सुख सहजे हरिआ भाइ सुभाई ॥२॥
The Gurmukh obtains the water of celestial bliss, and is rejuvenated, blossoming forth through the blessed Love of the Lord. ||2||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਖੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
Manamukh Bhookhae Dheh Dhis Ddolehi Bin Naavai Dhukh Paaee ||
मनमुख भूखे दह दिस डोलहि बिनु नावै दुखु पाई ॥
The self-willed manmukhs are hungry, wandering around in the ten directions; without the Name, they suffer in pain.
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਆਵੈ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
Janam Marai Fir Jonee Aavai Dharagehi Milai Sajaaee ||3||
जनमि मरै फिरि जोनी आवै दरगहि मिलै सजाई ॥३॥
They are born, only to die, and enter into reincarnation again; in the Court of the Lord, they are punished. ||3||
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Kirapaa Karehi Thaa Har Gun Gaaveh Har Ras Anthar Paaee ||
क्रिपा करहि ता हरि गुण गावह हरि रसु अंतरि पाई ॥
But if the Lord shows His Mercy, then one comes to sing His Glorious Praises; deep within the nucleus of his own self, he finds the sublime essence of the Lord's elixir.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥੮॥
Naanak Dheen Dhaeiaal Bheae Hai Thrisanaa Sabadh Bujhaaee ||4||8||
नानक दीन दइआल भए है त्रिसना सबदि बुझाई ॥४॥८॥
The Lord has become Merciful to meek Nanak, and through the Word of the Shabad, his desires are quenched. ||4||8||

ਅਚਰੁ ਚਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਿਧੀ ਤੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Achar Charai Thaa Sidhh Hoee Sidhhee Thae Budhh Paaee ||
अचरु चरै ता सिधि होई सिधी ते बुधि पाई ॥
If one eats the uneatable, then he becomes a Siddha, a being of perfect spirituality; through this perfection, he obtains wisdom.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੇ ਸਰ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
Praem Kae Sar Laagae Than Bheethar Thaa Bhram Kaattiaa Jaaee ||1||
प्रेम के सर लागे तन भीतरि ता भ्रमु काटिआ जाई ॥१॥
When the arrow of the Lord's Love pierces his body, then his doubt is eradicated. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Maerae Gobidh Apunae Jan Ko Dhaehi Vaddiaaee ||
मेरे गोबिद अपुने जन कउ देहि वडिआई ॥
O my Lord of the Universe, please bless Your humble servant with glory.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Guramath Raam Naam Paragaasahu Sadhaa Rehahu Saranaaee || Rehaao ||
गुरमति राम नामु परगासहु सदा रहहु सरणाई ॥ रहाउ ॥
Under Guru's Instructions, enlighten me with the Lord's Name, that I may dwell forever in Your Sanctuary. ||Pause||
ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਚੇਤਿ ਅਜਾਣਾ ॥
Eihu Sansaar Sabh Aavan Jaanaa Man Moorakh Chaeth Ajaanaa ||
इहु संसारु सभु आवण जाणा मन मूरख चेति अजाणा ॥
This whole world is engrossed in coming and going; O my foolish and ignorant mind, be mindful of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥੨॥
Har Jeeo Kirapaa Karahu Gur Maelahu Thaa Har Naam Samaanaa ||2||
हरि जीउ क्रिपा करहु गुरु मेलहु ता हरि नामि समाणा ॥२॥
O Dear Lord, please, take pity upon me, and unite me with the Guru, that I may merge in the Lord's Name. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਵਥੁ ਸੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Jis Kee Vathh Soee Prabh Jaanai Jis No Dhaee S Paaeae ||
जिस की वथु सोई प्रभु जाणै जिस नो देइ सु पाए ॥
Only one who has it knows God; he alone has it, to whom God has given it - ||3||
ਵਸਤੁ ਅਨੂਪ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਏ ॥੩॥
Vasath Anoop Ath Agam Agochar Gur Pooraa Alakh Lakhaaeae ||3||
वसतु अनूप अति अगम अगोचर गुरु पूरा अलखु लखाए ॥३॥
So very beautiful, unapproachable and unfathomable. Through the Perfect Guru, the unknowable is known.
ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹ ਚਾਖੀ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੂੰਗੇ ਕੀ ਮਿਠਿਆਈ ॥
Jin Eih Chaakhee Soee Jaanai Goongae Kee Mithiaaee ||
जिनि इह चाखी सोई जाणै गूंगे की मिठिआई ॥
Only one who tastes it knows it, like the mute, who tastes the sweet candy, but cannot speak of it.
