ਅਤੁਲੁ ਕਿਉ ਤੋਲੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਤੋਲੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Athul Kio Tholeeai Vin Tholae Paaeiaa N Jaae ||
अतुलु किउ तोलीऐ विणु तोले पाइआ न जाइ ॥
How can the unweighable be weighed? Without weighing Him, He cannot be obtained.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadh Veechaareeai Gun Mehi Rehai Samaae ||
गुर कै सबदि वीचारीऐ गुण महि रहै समाइ ॥
Reflect on the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and immerse yourself in His Glorious Virtues.
ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਆਪਿ ਤੋਲਸੀ ਆਪੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
Apanaa Aap Aap Tholasee Aapae Milai Milaae ||
अपणा आपु आपि तोलसी आपे मिलै मिलाइ ॥
He Himself weighs Himself; He unites in Union with Himself.
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
This Kee Keemath Naa Pavai Kehanaa Kishhoo N Jaae ||
तिस की कीमति ना पवै कहणा किछू न जाइ ॥
His value cannot be estimated; nothing can be said about this.
ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚੀ ਬੂਝ ਦਿਤੀ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥
Ho Balihaaree Gur Aapanae Jin Sachee Boojh Dhithee Bujhaae ||
हउ बलिहारी गुर आपणे जिनि सची बूझ दिती बुझाइ ॥
I am a sacrifice to my Guru; He has made me realize this true realization.
ਜਗਤੁ ਮੁਸੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਲੁਟੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
Jagath Musai Anmrith Lutteeai Manamukh Boojh N Paae ||
जगतु मुसै अम्रितु लुटीऐ मनमुख बूझ न पाइ ॥
The world has been deceived, and the Ambrosial Nectar is being plundered. The self-willed manmukh does not realize this.
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਚਲਸੀ ਜਾਸੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Vin Naavai Naal N Chalasee Jaasee Janam Gavaae ||
विणु नावै नालि न चलसी जासी जनमु गवाइ ॥
Without the Name, nothing will go along with him; he wastes his life, and departs.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਜਾਗੇ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਘਰੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਦੂਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਵਸਾਇ ॥੮॥
Guramathee Jaagae Thinhee Ghar Rakhiaa Dhoothaa Kaa Kishh N Vasaae ||8||
गुरमती जागे तिन्ही घरु रखिआ दूता का किछु न वसाइ ॥८॥
Those who follow the Guru's Teachings and remain awake and aware, preserve and protect the home of their heart; demons have no power against them. ||8||

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਨਾ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ਨਾ ਤਰਸਾਇ ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ॥
Baabeehaa Naa Bilalaae Naa Tharasaae Eaehu Man Khasam Kaa Hukam Mann ||
बाबीहा ना बिललाइ ना तरसाइ एहु मनु खसम का हुकमु मंनि ॥
O rainbird, do not cry out. Do not let this mind of yours be so thirsty for a drop of water. Obey the Hukam, the Command of your Lord and Master,
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਤਿਖ ਉਤਰੈ ਚੜੈ ਚਵਗਲਿ ਵੰਨੁ ॥੧॥
Naanak Hukam Manniai Thikh Outharai Charrai Chavagal Vann ||1||
नानक हुकमि मंनिऐ तिख उतरै चड़ै चवगलि वंनु ॥१॥
And your thirst shall be quenched. Your love for Him shall increase four-fold. ||1||

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਵਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਜਲ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਫਿਰਾਹਿ ॥
Baabeehaa Jal Mehi Thaeraa Vaas Hai Jal Hee Maahi Firaahi ||
बाबीहा जल महि तेरा वासु है जल ही माहि फिराहि ॥
O rainbird, your place is in the water; you move around in the water.
ਜਲ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੀ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਕੂਕਣ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Jal Kee Saar N Jaanehee Thaan Thoon Kookan Paahi ||
जल की सार न जाणही तां तूं कूकण पाहि ॥
But you do not appreciate the water, and so you cry out.
ਜਲ ਥਲ ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਵਰਸਦਾ ਖਾਲੀ ਕੋ ਥਾਉ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Jal Thhal Chahu Dhis Varasadhaa Khaalee Ko Thhaao Naahi ||
जल थल चहु दिसि वरसदा खाली को थाउ नाहि ॥
In the water and on the land, it rains down in the ten directions. No place is left dry.
ਏਤੈ ਜਲਿ ਵਰਸਦੈ ਤਿਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਭਾਗ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Eaethai Jal Varasadhai Thikh Marehi Bhaag Thinaa Kae Naahi ||
एतै जलि वरसदै तिख मरहि भाग तिना के नाहि ॥
With so much rain, those who are die of thirst are very unfortunate.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਿਨ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਈ ਜਿਨ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
Naanak Guramukh Thin Sojhee Pee Jin Vasiaa Man Maahi ||2||
नानक गुरमुखि तिन सोझी पई जिन वसिआ मन माहि ॥२॥
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs understand; the Lord abides within their minds. ||2||

ਨਾਥ ਜਤੀ ਸਿਧ ਪੀਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Naathh Jathee Sidhh Peer Kinai Anth N Paaeiaa ||
नाथ जती सिध पीर किनै अंतु न पाइआ ॥
The Yogic Masters, celibates, Siddhas and spiritual teachers - none of them has found the limits of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੁਝੈ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
Guramukh Naam Dhhiaae Thujhai Samaaeiaa ||
गुरमुखि नामु धिआइ तुझै समाइआ ॥
The Gurmukhs meditate on the Naam, and merge in You, O Lord.
ਜੁਗ ਛਤੀਹ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
Jug Shhatheeh Gubaar This Hee Bhaaeiaa ||
जुग छतीह गुबारु तिस ही भाइआ ॥
For thirty-six ages, God remained in utter darkness, as He pleased.
ਜਲਾ ਬਿੰਬੁ ਅਸਰਾਲੁ ਤਿਨੈ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ ॥
Jalaa Binb Asaraal Thinai Varathaaeiaa ||
जला बि्मबु असरालु तिनै वरताइआ ॥
The vast expanse of water swirled around.
ਨੀਲੁ ਅਨੀਲੁ ਅਗੰਮੁ ਸਰਜੀਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
Neel Aneel Aganm Sarajeeth Sabaaeiaa ||
नीलु अनीलु अगमु सरजीतु सबाइआ ॥
The Creator of all is Infinite, Endless and Inaccessible.
ਅਗਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਵਾਦੁ ਭੁਖ ਤਿਹਾਇਆ ॥
Agan Oupaaee Vaadh Bhukh Thihaaeiaa ||
अगनि उपाई वादु भुख तिहाइआ ॥
He formed fire and conflict, hunger and thirst.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
Dhuneeaa Kai Sir Kaal Dhoojaa Bhaaeiaa ||
दुनीआ कै सिरि कालु दूजा भाइआ ॥
Death hangs over the heads of the people of the world, in the love of duality.
ਰਖੈ ਰਖਣਹਾਰੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ॥੯॥
Rakhai Rakhanehaar Jin Sabadh Bujhaaeiaa ||9||
रखै रखणहारु जिनि सबदु बुझाइआ ॥९॥
The Savior Lord saves those who realize the Word of the Shabad. ||9||

Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਇਹੁ ਜਲੁ ਸਭ ਤੈ ਵਰਸਦਾ ਵਰਸੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
Eihu Jal Sabh Thai Varasadhaa Varasai Bhaae Subhaae ||
इहु जलु सभ तै वरसदा वरसै भाइ सुभाइ ॥
This rain pours down on all; it rains down in accordance with God's Loving Will.
ਸੇ ਬਿਰਖਾ ਹਰੀਆਵਲੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Sae Birakhaa Hareeaavalae Jo Guramukh Rehae Samaae ||
से बिरखा हरीआवले जो गुरमुखि रहे समाइ ॥
Those trees become green and lush, which remain immersed in the Guru's Word.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਏਨਾ ਜੰਤਾ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
Naanak Nadharee Sukh Hoe Eaenaa Janthaa Kaa Dhukh Jaae ||1||
नानक नदरी सुखु होइ एना जंता का दुखु जाइ ॥१॥
O Nanak, by His Grace, there is peace; the pain of these creatures is gone. ||1||

ਭਿੰਨੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਚਮਕਿਆ ਵੁਠਾ ਛਹਬਰ ਲਾਇ ॥
Bhinnee Rain Chamakiaa Vuthaa Shhehabar Laae ||
भिंनी रैणि चमकिआ वुठा छहबर लाइ ॥
The night is wet with dew; lightning flashes, and the rain pours down in torrents.
ਜਿਤੁ ਵੁਠੈ ਅਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਜਾਂ ਸਹੁ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
Jith Vuthai An Dhhan Bahuth Oopajai Jaan Sahu Karae Rajaae ||
जितु वुठै अनु धनु बहुतु ऊपजै जां सहु करे रजाइ ॥
Food and wealth are produced in abundance when it rains, if it is the Will of God.
ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ਜੀਆਂ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Jith Khaadhhai Man Thripatheeai Jeeaaan Jugath Samaae ||
जितु खाधै मनु त्रिपतीऐ जीआं जुगति समाइ ॥
Consuming it, the minds of His creatures are satisfied, and they adopt the lifestyle of the way.
ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ ਖੇਲੁ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਆਵੈ ਕਦੇ ਜਾਇ ॥
Eihu Dhhan Karathae Kaa Khael Hai Kadhae Aavai Kadhae Jaae ||
इहु धनु करते का खेलु है कदे आवै कदे जाइ ॥
This wealth is the play of the Creator Lord. Sometimes it comes, and sometimes it goes.
ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Giaaneeaa Kaa Dhhan Naam Hai Sadh Hee Rehai Samaae ||
गिआनीआ का धनु नामु है सद ही रहै समाइ ॥
The Naam is the wealth of the spiritually wise. It is permeating and pervading forever.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Jin Ko Nadhar Karae Thaan Eihu Dhhan Palai Paae ||2||
नानक जिन कउ नदरि करे तां इहु धनु पलै पाइ ॥२॥
O Nanak, those who are blessed with His Glance of Grace receive this wealth. ||2||

ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਹਉ ਕੈ ਸਿਉ ਕਰੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
Aap Karaaeae Karae Aap Ho Kai Sio Karee Pukaar ||
आपि कराए करे आपि हउ कै सिउ करी पुकार ॥
He Himself does, and causes all to be done. Unto whom can I complain?
ਆਪੇ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗਸੀ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਾਰ ॥
Aapae Laekhaa Mangasee Aap Karaaeae Kaar ||
आपे लेखा मंगसी आपि कराए कार ॥
He Himself calls the mortal beings to account; He Himself causes them to act.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
Jo This Bhaavai So Thheeai Hukam Karae Gaavaar ||
जो तिसु भावै सो थीऐ हुकमु करे गावारु ॥
Whatever pleases Him happens. Only a fool issues commands.
ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਏ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Aap Shhaddaaeae Shhutteeai Aapae Bakhasanehaar ||
आपि छडाए छुटीऐ आपे बखसणहारु ॥
He Himself saves and redeems; He Himself is the Forgiver.
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੇ ਆਪਿ ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
Aapae Vaekhai Sunae Aap Sabhasai Dhae Aadhhaar ||
आपे वेखै सुणे आपि सभसै दे आधारु ॥
He Himself sees, and He Himself hears; He gives His Support to all.
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Sabh Mehi Eaek Varathadhaa Sir Sir Karae Beechaar ||
सभ महि एकु वरतदा सिरि सिरि करे बीचारु ॥
He alone is pervading and permeating all; He considers each and every one.
