ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਏਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਹੈ ਮਤ ਕੋ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥
Baabeehaa Eaehu Jagath Hai Math Ko Bharam Bhulaae ||
बाबीहा एहु जगतु है मत को भरमि भुलाइ ॥
This world is a rainbird; let no one be deluded by doubt.
ਇਹੁ ਬਾਬੀਂਹਾ ਪਸੂ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਬੂਝਣੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Eihu Baabeenehaa Pasoo Hai Eis No Boojhan Naahi ||
इहु बाबींहा पसू है इस नो बूझणु नाहि ॥
This rainbird is an animal; it has no understanding at all.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਪੀਤੈ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
Anmrith Har Kaa Naam Hai Jith Peethai Thikh Jaae ||
अम्रितु हरि का नामु है जितु पीतै तिख जाइ ॥
The Name of the Lord is Ambrosial Nectar; drinking it in, thirst is quenched.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੀਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਇ ॥੧॥

नानक गुरमुखि जिन्ह पीआ तिन्ह बहुड़ि न लागी आइ ॥१॥
O Nanak, those Gurmukhs who drink it in shall never again be afflicted by thirst. ||1||

ਮਲਾਰੁ ਸੀਤਲ ਰਾਗੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਐ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Malaar Seethal Raag Hai Har Dhhiaaeiai Saanth Hoe ||
मलारु सीतल रागु है हरि धिआइऐ सांति होइ ॥
Malaar is a calming and soothing raga; meditating on the Lord brings peace and tranquility.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਲੋਇ ॥
Har Jeeo Apanee Kirapaa Karae Thaan Varathai Sabh Loe ||
हरि जीउ अपणी क्रिपा करे तां वरतै सभ लोइ ॥
When the Dear Lord grants His Grace, then the rain falls on all the people of the world.
ਵੁਠੈ ਜੀਆ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਧਰਣੀ ਨੋ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Vuthai Jeeaa Jugath Hoe Dhharanee No Seegaar Hoe ||
वुठै जीआ जुगति होइ धरणी नो सीगारु होइ ॥
From this rain, all creatures find the ways and means to live, and the earth is embellished.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਲੁ ਹੈ ਜਲ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਕੋਇ ॥
Naanak Eihu Jagath Sabh Jal Hai Jal Hee Thae Sabh Koe ||
नानक इहु जगतु सभु जलु है जल ही ते सभ कोइ ॥
O Nanak, this world is all water; everything came from water.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥

गुर परसादी को विरला बूझै सो जनु मुकतु सदा होइ ॥२॥

O True and Independent Lord God, You alone are my Lord and Master.
ਤੂ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਗਣੀ ॥
Thoo Sabh Kishh Aapae Aap Dhoojae Kis Ganee ||
तू सभु किछु आपे आपि दूजे किसु गणी ॥
You Yourself are everything; who else is of any account?
ਮਾਣਸ ਕੂੜਾ ਗਰਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਣੀ ॥
Maanas Koorraa Garab Sachee Thudhh Manee ||
माणस कूड़ा गरबु सची तुधु मणी ॥
False is the pride of man. True is Your glorious greatness.
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਰਚਾਇ ਉਪਾਈ ਮੇਦਨੀ ॥
Aavaa Goun Rachaae Oupaaee Maedhanee ||
आवा गउणु रचाइ उपाई मेदनी ॥
Coming and going in reincarnation, the beings and species of the world came into being.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਗਣੀ ॥
Sathigur Saevae Aapanaa Aaeiaa This Ganee ||
सतिगुरु सेवे आपणा आइआ तिसु गणी ॥
But if the mortal serves his True Guru, his coming into the world is judged to be worthwhile.
ਜੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਤ ਕੇਹੀ ਗਣਤ ਗਣੀ ॥
Jae Houmai Vichahu Jaae Th Kaehee Ganath Ganee ||
जे हउमै विचहु जाइ त केही गणत गणी ॥
And if he eradicates eogtism from within himself, then how can he be judged?
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੋਹਿ ਗੁਬਾਰਿ ਜਿਉ ਭੁਲਾ ਮੰਝਿ ਵਣੀ ॥
Manamukh Mohi Gubaar Jio Bhulaa Manjh Vanee ||
मनमुख मोहि गुबारि जिउ भुला मंझि वणी ॥
The self-willed manmukh is lost in the darkness of emotional attachment, like the man lost in the wilderness.
ਕਟੇ ਪਾਪ ਅਸੰਖ ਨਾਵੈ ਇਕ ਕਣੀ ॥੧੧॥

कटे पाप असंख नावै इक कणी ॥११॥
Countless sins are erased, by even a tiny particle of the Lord's Name. ||11||

Baabeehaa Khasamai Kaa Mehal N Jaanehee Mehal Dhaekh Aradhaas Paae ||
बाबीहा खसमै का महलु न जाणही महलु देखि अरदासि पाइ ॥
O rainbird, you do not know the Mansion of your Lord and Master's Presence. Offer your prayers to see this Mansion.
ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
Aapanai Bhaanai Bahuthaa Bolehi Boliaa Thhaae N Paae ||
आपणै भाणै बहुता बोलहि बोलिआ थाइ न पाइ ॥
You speak as you please, but your speech is not accepted.
ਖਸਮੁ ਵਡਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਛੇ ਸੋ ਫਲ ਪਾਇ ॥
Khasam Vaddaa Dhaathaar Hai Jo Eishhae So Fal Paae ||
खसमु वडा दातारु है जो इछे सो फल पाइ ॥
Your Lord and Master is the Great Giver; whatever you desire, you shall receive from Him.
ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਕਿਆ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਜਗਤੈ ਕੀ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
Baabeehaa Kiaa Bapurraa Jagathai Kee Thikh Jaae ||1||
बाबीहा किआ बपुड़ा जगतै की तिख जाइ ॥१॥
Not only the thirst of the poor rainbird, but the thirst of the whole world is quenched. ||1||

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਭਿੰਨੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
Baabeehaa Bhinnee Rain Boliaa Sehajae Sach Subhaae ||
बाबीहा भिंनी रैणि बोलिआ सहजे सचि सुभाइ ॥
The night is wet with dew; the rainbird sings the True Name with intuitive ease.
ਇਹੁ ਜਲੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਉ ਹੈ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Eihu Jal Maeraa Jeeo Hai Jal Bin Rehan N Jaae ||
इहु जलु मेरा जीउ है जल बिनु रहणु न जाइ ॥
This water is my very soul; without water, I cannot survive.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Gur Sabadhee Jal Paaeeai Vichahu Aap Gavaae ||
गुर सबदी जलु पाईऐ विचहु आपु गवाइ ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, this water is obtained, and egotism is eradicated from within.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਚਸਾ ਨ ਜੀਵਦੀ ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Jis Bin Chasaa N Jeevadhee So Sathigur Dheeaa Milaae ||2||
नानक जिसु बिनु चसा न जीवदी सो सतिगुरि दीआ मिलाइ ॥२॥
O Nanak, I cannot live without Him, even for a moment; the True Guru has led me to meet Him. ||2||

खंड पताल असंख मै गणत न होई ॥
There are countless worlds and nether regions; I cannot calculate their number.
ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਿਰਜੀ ਤੁਧੈ ਗੋਈ ॥
Thoo Karathaa Govindh Thudhh Sirajee Thudhhai Goee ||
तू करता गोविंदु तुधु सिरजी तुधै गोई ॥
You are the Creator, the Lord of the Universe; You create it, and You destroy it.
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਮੇਦਨੀ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥
Lakh Chouraaseeh Maedhanee Thujh Hee Thae Hoee ||
लख चउरासीह मेदनी तुझ ही ते होई ॥
The 8.4 million species of beings issued forth from You.
ਇਕਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਖਾਨ ਮਲੂਕ ਕਹਹਿ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ ਕੋਈ ॥
Eik Raajae Khaan Malook Kehehi Kehaavehi Koee ||
इकि राजे खान मलूक कहहि कहावहि कोई ॥
Some are called kings, emperors and nobles.
ਇਕਿ ਸਾਹ ਸਦਾਵਹਿ ਸੰਚਿ ਧਨੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥
Eik Saah Sadhaavehi Sanch Dhhan Dhoojai Path Khoee ||
इकि साह सदावहि संचि धनु दूजै पति खोई ॥
Some claim to be bankers and accumulate wealth, but in duality they lose their honor.
ਇਕਿ ਦਾਤੇ ਇਕ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
Eik Dhaathae Eik Mangathae Sabhanaa Sir Soee ||
इकि दाते इक मंगते सभना सिरि सोई ॥
Some are givers, and some are beggars; God is above the heads of all.
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਾਜਾਰੀਆ ਭੀਹਾਵਲਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
Vin Naavai Baajaareeaa Bheehaaval Hoee ||
विणु नावै बाजारीआ भीहावलि होई ॥
Without the Name, they are vulgar, dreadful and wretched.
ਕੂੜ ਨਿਖੁਟੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਚੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧੨॥
Koorr Nikhuttae Naanakaa Sach Karae S Hoee ||12||
कूड़ निखुटे नानका सचु करे सु होई ॥१२॥
Falsehood shall not last, O Nanak; whatever the True Lord does, comes to pass. ||12||

Baabeehaa Gunavanthee Mehal Paaeiaa Aouganavanthee Dhoor ||
बाबीहा गुणवंती महलु पाइआ अउगणवंती दूरि ॥
O rainbird, the virtuous soul-bride attains the Mansion of her Lord's Presence; the unworthy, unvirtuous one is far away.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
Anthar Thaerai Har Vasai Guramukh Sadhaa Hajoor ||
अंतरि तेरै हरि वसै गुरमुखि सदा हजूरि ॥
Deep within your inner being, the Lord abides. The Gurmukh beholds Him ever-present.
ਕੂਕ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
Kook Pukaar N Hovee Nadharee Nadhar Nihaal ||
कूक पुकार न होवई नदरी नदरि निहाल ॥
When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, the mortal no longer weeps and wails.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੈ ਘਾਲ ॥੧॥
Naanak Naam Rathae Sehajae Milae Sabadh Guroo Kai Ghaal ||1||
नानक नामि रते सहजे मिले सबदि गुरू कै घाल ॥१॥
O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam intuitively merge with the Lord; they practice the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||
