हम तुम संगि झूठे सभि बोला ॥
False is all his talk of me and you.
ਪਾਇ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਓ ॥
Paae Thagouree Aap Bhulaaeiou ||
पाइ ठगउरी आपि भुलाइओ ॥
The Lord Himself administers the poisonous potion, to mislead and delude.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਟਾਇਓ ॥੨॥

नानक किरतु न जाइ मिटाइओ ॥२॥

पसु पंखी भूत अरु प्रेता ॥
Beasts, birds, demons and ghosts
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਫਿਰਤ ਅਨੇਤਾ ॥
Bahu Bidhh Jonee Firath Anaethaa ||
बहु बिधि जोनी फिरत अनेता ॥
- in these many ways, the false wander in reincarnation.
ਜਹ ਜਾਨੋ ਤਹ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Jeh Jaano Theh Rehan N Paavai ||
जह जानो तह रहनु न पावै ॥
Wherever they go, they cannot remain there.
ਥਾਨ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਉਠਿ ਉਠਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
Thhaan Bihoon Outh Outh Fir Dhhaavai ||
थान बिहून उठि उठि फिरि धावै ॥
They have no place of rest; they rise up again and again and run around.
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ॥
Man Than Baasanaa Bahuth Bisathhaaraa ||
मनि तनि बासना बहुतु बिसथारा ॥
Their minds and bodies are filled with immense, expansive desires.
ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ਮੂਠੋ ਬੇਚਾਰਾ ॥
Ahanmaev Mootho Baechaaraa ||
अहमेव मूठो बेचारा ॥
The poor wretches are cheated by egotism.
ਅਨਿਕ ਦੋਖ ਅਰੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਜਾਈ ॥
Anik Dhokh Ar Bahuth Sajaaee ||
अनिक दोख अरु बहुतु सजाई ॥
They are filled with countless sins, and are severely punished.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
Thaa Kee Keemath Kehan N Jaaee ||
ता की कीमति कहणु न जाई ॥
The extent of this cannot be estimated.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਨਰਕ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Prabh Bisarath Narak Mehi Paaeiaa ||
प्रभ बिसरत नरक महि पाइआ ॥
Forgetting God, they fall into hell.
ਤਹ ਮਾਤ ਨ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਮੀਤ ਨ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
Theh Maath N Bandhh N Meeth N Jaaeiaa ||
तह मात न बंधु न मीत न जाइआ ॥
There are no mothers there, no siblings, no friends and no spouses.
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
Jis Ko Hoth Kirapaal Suaamee ||
जिस कउ होत क्रिपाल सुआमी ॥
Those humble beings, unto whom the Lord and Master becomes Merciful,
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਰਗਰਾਮੀ ॥੩॥

ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਨੀ ਆਇਆ ॥

भ्रमत भ्रमत प्रभ सरनी आइआ ॥
Rambling and roaming, wandering around, I came to seek the Sanctuary of God.
ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਤ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
Dheenaa Naathh Jagath Pith Maaeiaa ||
दीना नाथ जगत पित माइआ ॥
He is the Master of the meek, the father and mother of the world.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੁਖ ਦਰਦ ਬਿਦਾਰਣ ॥
Prabh Dhaeiaal Dhukh Dharadh Bidhaaran ||
प्रभ दइआल दुख दरद बिदारण ॥
The Merciful Lord God is the Destroyer of sorrow and suffering.
ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਣ ॥
Jis Bhaavai This Hee Nisathaaran ||
जिसु भावै तिस ही निसतारण ॥
He emancipates whoever He pleases.
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
Andhh Koop Thae Kaadtanehaaraa ||
अंध कूप ते काढनहारा ॥
He lifts them up and pulls him out of the deep dark pit.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥
Praem Bhagath Hovath Nisathaaraa ||
प्रेम भगति होवत निसतारा ॥
Emancipation comes through loving devotional worship.
ਸਾਧ ਰੂਪ ਅਪਨਾ ਤਨੁ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
Saadhh Roop Apanaa Than Dhhaariaa ||
साध रूप अपना तनु धारिआ ॥
The Holy Saint is the very embodiment of the Lord's form.
ਮਹਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਤੇ ਆਪਿ ਉਬਾਰਿਆ ॥
Mehaa Agan Thae Aap Oubaariaa ||
महा अगनि ते आपि उबारिआ ॥
He Himself saves us from the great fire.
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Jap Thap Sanjam Eis Thae Kishh Naahee ||
जप तप संजम इस ते किछु नाही ॥
By myself, I cannot practice meditation, austerities, penance and self-discipline.
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਹੀ ॥

आदि अंति प्रभ अगम अगाही ॥
In the beginning and in the end, God is inaccessible and unfathomable.
ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਮਾਗੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
Naam Dhaehi Maagai Dhaas Thaeraa ||
नामु देहि मागै दासु तेरा ॥
Please bless me with Your Name, Lord; Your slave begs only for this.

कत कउ डहकावहु लोगा मोहन दीन किरपाई ॥१॥
Why do you try to deceive others, O people of the world? The Fascinating Lord is Merciful to the meek. ||1||

ऐसी जानि पाई ॥

ਸਰਣਿ ਸੂਰੋ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਤਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Saran Sooro Gur Dhaathaa Raakhai Aap Vaddaaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
सरणि सूरो गुर दाता राखै आपि वडाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The brave and heroic Guru, the Generous Giver, gives Sanctuary and preserves our honor. ||1||Pause||
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥੨॥
Bhagathaa Kaa Aagiaakaaree Sadhaa Sadhaa Sukhadhaaee ||2||
भगता का आगिआकारी सदा सदा सुखदाई ॥२॥
He submits to the Will of His devotees; He is forever and ever the Giver of peace. ||2||
ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੩॥
Apanae Ko Kirapaa Kareeahu Eik Naam Dhhiaaee ||3||
अपने कउ किरपा करीअहु इकु नामु धिआई ॥३॥
Please bless me with Your Mercy, that I may meditate on Your Name alone. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦੀਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥੪॥੪॥੨੦॥
Naanak Dheen Naam Maagai Dhutheeaa Bharam Chukaaee ||4||4||20||
नानकु दीनु नामु मागै दुतीआ भरमु चुकाई ॥४॥४॥२०॥
Nanak, the meek and humble, begs for the Naam, the Name of the Lord; it eradicates duality and doubt. ||4||4||20||

My Lord and Master is utterly powerful.

मोहि सेवकु बेचारा ॥१॥
I am just His poor servant. ||1||

मोहनु लालु मेरा प्रीतम मन प्राना ॥
My Enticing Beloved is very dear to my mind and my breath of life.

I have seen and tested all.

There is none other than Him. ||2||
ਜੀਅਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ਸਮਾਹੈ ॥
Jeean Prathipaal Samaahai ||
जीअन प्रतिपालि समाहै ॥
He sustains and nurtures all beings.
ਹੈ ਹੋਸੀ ਆਹੇ ॥੩॥
Hai Hosee Aahae ||3||
है होसी आहे ॥३॥
He was, and shall always be. ||3||
ਦਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਕੀਜੈ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
Dhaeiaa Mohi Keejai Dhaevaa ||
दइआ मोहि कीजै देवा ॥
Please bless me with Your Mercy, O Divine Lord,
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਗੋ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੪॥੫॥੨੧॥
Naanak Laago Saevaa ||4||5||21||

ਐਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੇਟੈ ਸੰਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥
Aisaa Koee Bhaettai Santh Jith Har Harae Har Dhhiaaeeai ||1||
ऐसा कोई भेटै संतु जितु हरि हरे हरि धिआईऐ ॥१॥
If only I could meet with such a Saint, who would inspire me to meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, Har. ||1||
ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ॥
Mo Ko Koe N Jaanath Keheeath Dhaas Thumaaraa ||
मो कउ कोइ न जानत कहीअत दासु तुमारा ॥
No one knows me; I am called Your slave.
ਏਹਾ ਓਟ ਆਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਸਰਬ ਧਾਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰਨ ਇਕ ਬਿਨਉ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
Sarab Dhhaaran Prathipaaran Eik Bino Dheenaa ||
सरब धारन प्रतिपारन इक बिनउ दीना ॥
You support and cherish all; I am meek and humble - this is my only prayer.
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਜਲ ਹਮ ਮੀਨਾ ॥੨॥
Thumaree Bidhh Thum Hee Jaanahu Thum Jal Ham Meenaa ||2||
तुमरी बिधि तुम ही जानहु तुम जल हम मीना ॥२॥
You alone know Your Way; You are the water, and I am the fish. ||2||
ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਸਥੀਰਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਹਿ ਆਇਓ ਪਾਛੈ ॥
Pooran Bisathheeran Suaamee Aahi Aaeiou Paashhai ||
पूरन बिसथीरन सुआमी आहि आइओ पाछै ॥
O Perfect and Expansive Lord and Master, I follow You in love.
ਸਗਲੋ ਭੂ ਮੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਆਛੈ ॥੩॥
Sagalo Bhoo Manddal Khanddal Prabh Thum Hee Aashhai ||3||
सगलो भू मंडल खंडल प्रभ तुम ही आछै ॥३॥
O God, You are pervading all the worlds, solar systems and galaxies. ||3||
