तजि आपु बिनसी तापु रेण साधू थीउ ॥
Renounce your self-conceit, and the fever shall depart; become the dust of the feet of the Holy.

Prathipaal Maathaa Oudhar Raakhai Lagan Dhaeth N Saek ||
प्रतिपालि माता उदरि राखै लगनि देत न सेक ॥
He nourishes and preserves mortals in the womb of the mother, so that the fiery heat does not hurt them.
ਸੋਈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਈਹਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਬੂਝੁ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥੧॥

Remember the One Lord in your mind, renounce your clever tricks, and give up all your religious robes.

पतित पावन नामु जा को अनाथ को है नाथु ॥
His Name is the Purifier of sinners; He is the Master of the masterless.
ਮਹਾ ਭਉਜਲ ਮਾਹਿ ਤੁਲਹੋ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਮਾਥ ॥੧॥

महा भउजल माहि तुलहो जा को लिखिओ माथ ॥१॥
In the vast and terrifying world-ocean, he is the raft for those who have such destiny inscribed on their foreheads. ||1||

डूबे नाम बिनु घन साथ ॥
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, huge numbers of companions have drowned.

साहै कै फुरमाइअड़ै जी देही विचि जीउ आइ पइआ ॥१॥
By the Command of the Dear Lord King, the soul came and entered into the body. ||1||

Jithhai Agan Bhakhai Bharrehaarae ||
जिथै अगनि भखै भड़हारे ॥
In that place, where the fire rages like an oven,
ਊਰਧ ਮੁਖ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰੇ ॥
Ooradhh Mukh Mehaa Gubaarae ||
ऊरध मुख महा गुबारे ॥
In that darkness where the body lies face down
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਮਾਲੇ ਸੋਈ ਓਥੈ ਖਸਮਿ ਛਡਾਇ ਲਇਆ ॥੨॥
Saas Saas Samaalae Soee Outhhai Khasam Shhaddaae Laeiaa ||2||
सासि सासि समाले सोई ओथै खसमि छडाइ लइआ ॥२॥
- there, one remembers his Lord and Master with each and every breath, and then he is rescued. ||2||
ਵਿਚਹੁ ਗਰਭੈ ਨਿਕਲਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
Vichahu Garabhai Nikal Aaeiaa ||
विचहु गरभै निकलि आइआ ॥
Then, one comes out from within the womb,
ਖਸਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਦੁਨੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Khasam Visaar Dhunee Chith Laaeiaa ||
खसमु विसारि दुनी चितु लाइआ ॥
And forgetting his Lord and Master, he attaches his consciousness to the world.
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਭਵਾਈਐ ਜੋਨੀ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਕਿਤਹੀ ਥਾਇ ਭਇਆ ॥੩॥
Aavai Jaae Bhavaaeeai Jonee Rehan N Kithehee Thhaae Bhaeiaa ||3||
आवै जाइ भवाईऐ जोनी रहणु न कितही थाइ भइआ ॥३॥
He comes and goes, and wanders in reincarnation; he cannot remain anywhere. ||3||
ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਿ ਰਖਿ ਲਇਅਨੁ ਆਪੇ ॥

मिहरवानि रखि लइअनु आपे ॥
The Merciful Lord Himself emancipates.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਥਾਪੇ ॥
Jeea Janth Sabh This Kae Thhaapae ||
जीअ जंत सभि तिस के थापे ॥
He created and established all beings and creatures.
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਜਿਣਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਥਿਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੧॥
Janam Padhaarathh Jin Chaliaa Naanak Aaeiaa So Paravaan Thhiaa ||4||1||31||
जनमु पदारथु जिणि चलिआ नानक आइआ सो परवाणु थिआ ॥४॥१॥३१॥
Those who depart after having been victorious in this priceless human life - O Nanak, their coming into the world is approved. ||4||1||31||
