मारू महला ५ ॥
Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:
ਵੈਦੋ ਨ ਵਾਈ ਭੈਣੋ ਨ ਭਾਈ ਏਕੋ ਸਹਾਈ ਰਾਮੁ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
Vaidho N Vaaee Bhaino N Bhaaee Eaeko Sehaaee Raam Hae ||1||
वैदो न वाई भैणो न भाई एको सहाई रामु हे ॥१॥
The One Lord alone is our help and support; neither physician nor friend, nor sister nor brother can be this. ||1||
ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਮਲੋ ਧੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
Keethaa Jiso Hovai Paapaan Malo Dhhovai So Simarahu Paradhhaan Hae ||2||
कीता जिसो होवै पापां मलो धोवै सो सिमरहु परधानु हे ॥२॥
His actions alone come to pass; He washes off the filth of sins. Meditate in remembrance on that Supreme Lord. ||2||
ਘਟਿ ਘਟੇ ਵਾਸੀ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
Ghatt Ghattae Vaasee Sarab Nivaasee Asathhir Jaa Kaa Thhaan Hae ||3||
घटि घटे वासी सरब निवासी असथिरु जा का थानु हे ॥३॥
He abides in each and every heart, and dwells in all; His seat and place are eternal. ||3||
ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ਸੰਗੇ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕਾਮੁ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
Aavai N Jaavai Sangae Samaavai Pooran Jaa Kaa Kaam Hae ||4||
आवै न जावै संगे समावै पूरन जा का कामु हे ॥४॥
He does not come or go, and He is always with us. His actions are perfect. ||4||
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
Bhagath Janaa Kaa Raakhanehaaraa ||
भगत जना का राखणहारा ॥
He is the Savior and the Protector of His devotees.
ਸੰਤ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਜਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
Santh Jeevehi Jap Praan Adhhaaraa ||
संत जीवहि जपि प्रान अधारा ॥
The Saints live by meditating on God, the support of the breath of life.
ਕਰਨ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ਹੇ ॥੫॥੨॥੩੨॥
Karan Kaaran Samarathh Suaamee Naanak This Kurabaan Hae ||5||2||32||
करन कारन समरथु सुआमी नानकु तिसु कुरबानु हे ॥५॥२॥३२॥
The Almighty Lord and Master is the Cause of causes; Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ||5||2||32||

Maaroo, Ninth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥
Har Ko Naam Sadhaa Sukhadhaaee ||
हरि को नामु सदा सुखदाई ॥
The Name of the Lord is forever the Giver of peace.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅਜਾਮਲੁ ਉਧਰਿਓ ਗਨਿਕਾ ਹੂ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jaa Ko Simar Ajaamal Oudhhariou Ganikaa Hoo Gath Paaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
जा कउ सिमरि अजामलु उधरिओ गनिका हू गति पाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Meditating in remembrance on it, Ajaamal was saved, and Ganika the prostitute was emancipated. ||1||Pause||
ਪੰਚਾਲੀ ਕਉ ਰਾਜ ਸਭਾ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਧਿ ਆਈ ॥
Panchaalee Ko Raaj Sabhaa Mehi Raam Naam Sudhh Aaee ||
पंचाली कउ राज सभा महि राम नाम सुधि आई ॥
Dropadi the princess of Panchaala remembered the Lord's Name in the royal court.
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਦੂਖੁ ਹਰਿਓ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਪੈਜ ਬਢਾਈ ॥੧॥
Thaa Ko Dhookh Hariou Karunaa Mai Apanee Paij Badtaaee ||1||
ता को दूखु हरिओ करुणा मै अपनी पैज बढाई ॥१॥
The Lord, the embodiment of mercy, removed her suffering; thus His own glory was increased. ||1||
ਜਿਹ ਨਰ ਜਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਾਇਓ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਭਇਓ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
Jih Nar Jas Kirapaa Nidhh Gaaeiou Thaa Ko Bhaeiou Sehaaee ||
जिह नर जसु किरपा निधि गाइओ ता कउ भइओ सहाई ॥
That man, who sings the Praise of the Lord, the treasure of mercy, has the help and support of the Lord.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਇਹੀ ਭਰੋਸੈ ਗਹੀ ਆਨਿ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥੨॥੧॥
Kahu Naanak Mai Eihee Bharosai Gehee Aan Saranaaee ||2||1||
कहु नानक मै इही भरोसै गही आनि सरनाई ॥२॥१॥
Says Nanak, I have come to rely on this. I seek the Sanctuary of the Lord. ||2||1||

ਅਬ ਮੈ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਉ ਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
Ab Mai Kehaa Karo Ree Maaee ||
अब मै कहा करउ री माई ॥
What should I do now, O mother?
ਸਗਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਸਿਉ ਖੋਇਆ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਨਾਹਿ ਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sagal Janam Bikhian Sio Khoeiaa Simariou Naahi Kanhaaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
सगल जनमु बिखिअन सिउ खोइआ सिमरिओ नाहि कन्हाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I have wasted my whole life in sin and corruption; I never remembered the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਲ ਫਾਸ ਜਬ ਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਤਿਹ ਸੁਧਿ ਸਭ ਬਿਸਰਾਈ ॥
Kaal Faas Jab Gar Mehi Maelee Thih Sudhh Sabh Bisaraaee ||
काल फास जब गर महि मेली तिह सुधि सभ बिसराई ॥
When Death places the noose around my neck, then I lose all my senses.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਯਾ ਸੰਕਟ ਮਹਿ ਕੋ ਅਬ ਹੋਤ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥
Raam Naam Bin Yaa Sankatt Mehi Ko Ab Hoth Sehaaee ||1||
राम नाम बिनु या संकट महि को अब होत सहाई ॥१॥
Now, in this disaster, other than the Name of the Lord, who will be my help and support? ||1||
ਜੋ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੀ ਛਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਭਈ ਪਰਾਈ ॥
Jo Sanpath Apanee Kar Maanee Shhin Mehi Bhee Paraaee ||
जो स्मपति अपनी करि मानी छिन महि भई पराई ॥
That wealth, which he believes to be his own, in an instant, belongs to another.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਯਹ ਸੋਚ ਰਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਗਾਈ ॥੨॥੨॥
Kahu Naanak Yeh Soch Rehee Man Har Jas Kabehoo N Gaaee ||2||2||
कहु नानक यह सोच रही मनि हरि जसु कबहू न गाई ॥२॥२॥
Says Nanak, this still really bothers my mind - I never sang the Praises of the Lord. ||2||2||

ਮਾਈ ਮੈ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ॥
Maaee Mai Man Ko Maan N Thiaagiou ||
माई मै मन को मानु न तिआगिओ ॥
O my mother, I have not renounced the pride of my mind.
ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਮਦਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਰਾਇਓ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Maaeiaa Kae Madh Janam Siraaeiou Raam Bhajan Nehee Laagiou ||1|| Rehaao ||
माइआ के मदि जनमु सिराइओ राम भजनि नही लागिओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I have wasted my life intoxicated with Maya; I have not focused myself in meditation on the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਜਮ ਕੋ ਡੰਡੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਤਬ ਸੋਵਤ ਤੈ ਜਾਗਿਓ ॥
Jam Ko Ddandd Pariou Sir Oopar Thab Sovath Thai Jaagiou ||
जम को डंडु परिओ सिर ऊपरि तब सोवत तै जागिओ ॥
When Death's club falls on my head, then I will be wakened from my sleep.
ਕਹਾ ਹੋਤ ਅਬ ਕੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਏ ਛੂਟਤ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਭਾਗਿਓ ॥੧॥
Kehaa Hoth Ab Kai Pashhuthaaeae Shhoottath Naahin Bhaagiou ||1||
कहा होत अब कै पछुताए छूटत नाहिन भागिओ ॥१॥
But what good will it do to repent at that time? I cannot escape by running away. ||1||
ਇਹ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਜਬ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨਨ ਅਨੁਰਾਗਿਓ ॥
Eih Chinthaa Oupajee Ghatt Mehi Jab Gur Charanan Anuraagiou ||
इह चिंता उपजी घट महि जब गुर चरनन अनुरागिओ ॥
When this anxiety arises in the heart, then, one comes to love the Guru's feet.
ਸੁਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਬ ਹੂਆ ਜਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਸ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਗਿਓ ॥੨॥੩॥
Sufal Janam Naanak Thab Hooaa Jo Prabh Jas Mehi Paagiou ||2||3||
सुफलु जनमु नानक तब हूआ जउ प्रभ जस महि पागिओ ॥२॥३॥
My life becomes fruitful, O Nanak, only when I am absorbed in the Praises of God. ||2||3||

Baedh Puraan Kathhae Sunae Haarae Munee Anaekaa ||
बेद पुराण कथे सुणे हारे मुनी अनेका ॥
Reciting and listening to the Vedas and the Puraanas, countless wise men have grown weary.
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਬਹੁ ਘਣਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਭੇਖਾ ॥
Athasath Theerathh Bahu Ghanaa Bhram Thhaakae Bhaekhaa ||
अठसठि तीरथ बहु घणा भ्रमि थाके भेखा ॥
So many in their various religious robes have grown weary, wandering to the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਸਾਚੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੋ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨੈ ਏਕਾ ॥੧॥
Saacho Saahib Niramalo Man Maanai Eaekaa ||1||
साचो साहिबु निरमलो मनि मानै एका ॥१॥
The True Lord and Master is immaculate and pure. The mind is satisfied only by the One Lord. ||1||
ਤੂ ਅਜਰਾਵਰੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਤੂ ਸਭ ਚਾਲਣਹਾਰੀ ॥
Thoo Ajaraavar Amar Thoo Sabh Chaalanehaaree ||
तू अजरावरु अमरु तू सभ चालणहारी ॥
You are eternal; You do not grow old. All others pass away.
ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਭਾਇ ਲੈ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Naam Rasaaein Bhaae Lai Parehar Dhukh Bhaaree ||1|| Rehaao ||
नामु रसाइणु भाइ लै परहरि दुखु भारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
One who lovingly focuses on the Naam, the source of nectar - his pains are taken away. ||1||Pause||
