जो तिसु भावै सोई करसी ॥
He does whatever He pleases.
ਆਪਹੁ ਹੋਆ ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਸੀ ॥
Aapahu Hoaa Naa Kishh Hosee ||
आपहु होआ ना किछु होसी ॥
No one has done, or can do anything by himself.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੩॥
Naanak Naam Milai Vaddiaaee Dhar Saachai Path Paaee Hae ||16||3||
नानक नामु मिलै वडिआई दरि साचै पति पाई हे ॥१६॥३॥
O Nanak, through the Name, one is blessed with glorious greatness, and obtains honor in the Court of the True Lord. ||16||3||

Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਸੀ ॥
Jo Aaeiaa So Sabh Ko Jaasee ||
जो आइआ सो सभु को जासी ॥
All who come shall have to depart.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਾਧਾ ਜਮ ਫਾਸੀ ॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Baadhhaa Jam Faasee ||
दूजै भाइ बाधा जम फासी ॥
In the love of duality, they are caught by the noose of the Messenger of Death.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
Sathigur Raakhae Sae Jan Oubarae Saachae Saach Samaaee Hae ||1||
सतिगुरि राखे से जन उबरे साचे साचि समाई हे ॥१॥
Those humble beings who are protected by the True Guru, are saved. They merge into the Truest of the True. ||1||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
Aapae Karathaa Kar Kar Vaekhai ||
आपे करता करि करि वेखै ॥
The Creator Himself creates the creation, and watches over it.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
Jis No Nadhar Karae Soee Jan Laekhai ||
जिस नो नदरि करे सोई जनु लेखै ॥
Thay alone are acceptable, upon whom He bestows His Glance of Grace.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
Guramukh Giaan This Sabh Kishh Soojhai Agiaanee Andhh Kamaaee Hae ||2||
गुरमुखि गिआनु तिसु सभु किछु सूझै अगिआनी अंधु कमाई हे ॥२॥
The Gurmukh attains spiritual wisdom, and understands everything. The ignorant ones act blindly. ||2||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਹਸਾ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
Manamukh Sehasaa Boojh N Paaee ||
मनमुख सहसा बूझ न पाई ॥
The self-willed manmukh is cynical; he doesn't understand.
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
Mar Mar Janmai Janam Gavaaee ||
मरि मरि जमै जनमु गवाई ॥
He dies and dies again, only to be reborn, and loses his life uselessly again.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
Guramukh Naam Rathae Sukh Paaeiaa Sehajae Saach Samaaee Hae ||3||
गुरमुखि नामि रते सुखु पाइआ सहजे साचि समाई हे ॥३॥
The Gurmukh is imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord; he find peace, and is intuitively immersed in the True Lord. ||3||
ਧੰਧੈ ਧਾਵਤ ਮਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨੂਰਾ ॥
Dhhandhhai Dhhaavath Man Bhaeiaa Manooraa ||
धंधै धावत मनु भइआ मनूरा ॥
Chasing after worldly affairs, the mind has become corroded and rusty.
ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
Fir Hovai Kanchan Bhaettai Gur Pooraa ||
फिरि होवै कंचनु भेटै गुरु पूरा ॥
But meeting with the Perfect Guru, it is transmuted into gold once again.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
Aapae Bakhas Leae Sukh Paaeae Poorai Sabadh Milaaee Hae ||4||
आपे बखसि लए सुखु पाए पूरै सबदि मिलाई हे ॥४॥
When the Lord Himself grants forgiveness, then peace is obtained; through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, one is united with Him. ||4||
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਝੂਠੀ ਬੁਰੀ ਬੁਰਿਆਰਿ ॥
Dhuramath Jhoothee Buree Buriaar ||
दुरमति झूठी बुरी बुरिआरि ॥
The false and evil-minded are the most wicked of the wicked.
ਅਉਗਣਿਆਰੀ ਅਉਗਣਿਆਰਿ ॥
Aouganiaaree Aouganiaar ||
अउगणिआरी अउगणिआरि ॥
They are the most unworthy of the unworthy.
ਕਚੀ ਮਤਿ ਫੀਕਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
Kachee Math Feekaa Mukh Bolai Dhuramath Naam N Paaee Hae ||5||
कची मति फीका मुखि बोलै दुरमति नामु न पाई हे ॥५॥
With false intellect, and insipid words of mouth, evil-minded, they do not obtain the Naam. ||5||
ਅਉਗਣਿਆਰੀ ਕੰਤ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
Aouganiaaree Kanth N Bhaavai ||
अउगणिआरी कंत न भावै ॥
The unworthy soul-bride is not pleasing to her Husband Lord.
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਜੂਠੀ ਜੂਠੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
Man Kee Joothee Jooth Kamaavai ||
मन की जूठी जूठु कमावै ॥
False-minded, her actions are false.
ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਸਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਮੂਰਖਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
Pir Kaa Saao N Jaanai Moorakh Bin Gur Boojh N Paaee Hae ||6||
पिर का साउ न जाणै मूरखि बिनु गुर बूझ न पाई हे ॥६॥
The foolish person does not know the excellence of her Husband Lord. Without the Guru, she does not understand at all. ||6||
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਟੀ ਖੋਟੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
Dhuramath Khottee Khott Kamaavai ||
दुरमति खोटी खोटु कमावै ॥
The evil-minded, wicked soul-bride practices wickedness.
ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਪਿਰ ਖਸਮ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
Seegaar Karae Pir Khasam N Bhaavai ||
सीगारु करे पिर खसम न भावै ॥
She decorates herself, but her Husband Lord is not pleased.
ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
Gunavanthee Sadhaa Pir Raavai Sathigur Mael Milaaee Hae ||7||
गुणवंती सदा पिरु रावै सतिगुरि मेलि मिलाई हे ॥७॥
The virtuous soul-bride enjoys and ravishes her Husband Lord forever; the True Guru unites her in His Union. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
Aapae Hukam Karae Sabh Vaekhai ||
आपे हुकमु करे सभु वेखै ॥
God Himself issues the Hukam of His Command, and beholds all.
ਇਕਨਾ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਧੁਰਿ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
Eikanaa Bakhas Leae Dhhur Laekhai ||
इकना बखसि लए धुरि लेखै ॥
Some are forgiven, according to their pre-ordained destiny.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
Anadhin Naam Rathae Sach Paaeiaa Aapae Mael Milaaee Hae ||8||
अनदिनु नामि रते सचु पाइआ आपे मेलि मिलाई हे ॥८॥
Night and day, they are imbued with the Naam, and they find the True Lord. He Himself unites them in His Union. ||8||
ਹਉਮੈ ਧਾਤੁ ਮੋਹ ਰਸਿ ਲਾਈ ॥
Houmai Dhhaath Moh Ras Laaee ||
हउमै धातु मोह रसि लाई ॥
Egotism attaches them to the juice of emotional attachment, and makes them run around.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਿਵ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
Guramukh Liv Saachee Sehaj Samaaee ||
गुरमुखि लिव साची सहजि समाई ॥
The Gurmukh is intuitively immersed in the True Love of the Lord.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
Aapae Maelai Aapae Kar Vaekhai Bin Sathigur Boojh N Paaee Hae ||9||
आपे मेलै आपे करि वेखै बिनु सतिगुर बूझ न पाई हे ॥९॥
He Himself unites, He Himself acts, and beholds. Without the True Guru, understanding is not obtained. ||9||
ਇਕਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
Eik Sabadh Veechaar Sadhaa Jan Jaagae ||
इकि सबदु वीचारि सदा जन जागे ॥
Some contemplate the Word of the Shabad; these humble beings remain always awake and aware.
ਇਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
Eik Maaeiaa Mohi Soe Rehae Abhaagae ||
इकि माइआ मोहि सोइ रहे अभागे ॥
Some are attached to the love of Maya; these unfortunate ones remain asleep.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
Aapae Karae Karaaeae Aapae Hor Karanaa Kishhoo N Jaaee Hae ||10||
आपे करे कराए आपे होरु करणा किछू न जाई हे ॥१०॥
He Himself acts, and inspires all to act; no one else can do anything. ||10||
ਕਾਲੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
Kaal Maar Gur Sabadh Nivaarae ||
कालु मारि गुर सबदि निवारे ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, death is conquered and killed.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Rakhai Our Dhhaarae ||
हरि का नामु रखै उर धारे ॥
Keep the Name of the Lord enshrined within your heart.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
Sathigur Saevaa Thae Sukh Paaeiaa Har Kai Naam Samaaee Hae ||11||
सतिगुर सेवा ते सुखु पाइआ हरि कै नामि समाई हे ॥११॥
Serving the True Guru, peace is obtained, and one merges in the Name of the Lord. ||11||
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਫਿਰੈ ਦੇਵਾਨੀ ॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Firai Dhaevaanee ||
दूजै भाइ फिरै देवानी ॥
In the love of duality, the world wanders around insane.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohi Dhukh Maahi Samaanee ||
माइआ मोहि दुख माहि समानी ॥
Immersed in love and attachment to Maya, it suffers in pain.
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੈ ਨਹ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
Bahuthae Bhaekh Karai Neh Paaeae Bin Sathigur Sukh N Paaee Hae ||12||
बहुते भेख करै नह पाए बिनु सतिगुर सुखु न पाई हे ॥१२॥
Wearing all sorts of religious robes, He is not obtained. Without the True Guru, peace is not found. ||12||
ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਜਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
Kis No Keheeai Jaa Aap Karaaeae ||
किस नो कहीऐ जा आपि कराए ॥
Who is to blame, when He Himself does everything?
ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਰਾਹਿ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
Jith Bhaavai Thith Raahi Chalaaeae ||
जितु भावै तितु राहि चलाए ॥
As He wills, so is the path we take.
ਆਪੇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
Aapae Miharavaan Sukhadhaathaa Jio Bhaavai Thivai Chalaaee Hae ||13||
आपे मिहरवानु सुखदाता जिउ भावै तिवै चलाई हे ॥१३॥
He Himself is the Merciful Giver of peace; as He wills, so do we follow. ||13||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥
Aapae Karathaa Aapae Bhugathaa ||
आपे करता आपे भुगता ॥
He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself is the Enjoyer.
ਆਪੇ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਆਪੇ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥
Aapae Sanjam Aapae Jugathaa ||
आपे संजमु आपे जुगता ॥
He Himself is detached, and He Himself is attached.
ਆਪੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
Aapae Niramal Miharavaan Madhhusoodhan Jis Dhaa Hukam N Maettiaa Jaaee Hae ||14||
आपे निरमलु मिहरवानु मधुसूदनु जिस दा हुकमु न मेटिआ जाई हे ॥१४॥
He Himself is immaculate, compassionate, the lover of nectar; the Hukam of His Command cannot be erased. ||14||
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
Sae Vaddabhaagee Jinee Eaeko Jaathaa ||
से वडभागी जिनी एको जाता ॥
Those who know the One Lord are very fortunate.
