ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
Guramukh Saachaa Sabadh Pashhaathaa ||
गुरमुखि साचा सबदि पछाता ॥
The Gurmukh realizes the True Word of the Shabad.
ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
Naa This Kuttanb Naa This Maathaa ||
ना तिसु कुट्मबु ना तिसु माता ॥
He has no family, and he has no mother.
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਆਧਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
Eaeko Eaek Raviaa Sabh Anthar Sabhanaa Jeeaa Kaa Aadhhaaree Hae ||13||
एको एकु रविआ सभ अंतरि सभना जीआ का आधारी हे ॥१३॥
The One and Only Lord is pervading and permeating deep within the nucleus of all. He is the Support of all beings. ||13||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
Houmai Maeraa Dhoojaa Bhaaeiaa ||
हउमै मेरा दूजा भाइआ ॥
Egotism, possessiveness, and the love of duality
ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਖਸਮਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Kishh N Chalai Dhhur Khasam Likh Paaeiaa ||
किछु न चलै धुरि खसमि लिखि पाइआ ॥
- none of these shall go along with you; such is the pre-ordained will of our Lord and Master.
ਗੁਰ ਸਾਚੇ ਤੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
Gur Saachae Thae Saach Kamaavehi Saachai Dhookh Nivaaree Hae ||14||
गुर साचे ते साचु कमावहि साचै दूख निवारी हे ॥१४॥
Through the True Guru, practice Truth, and the True Lord shall take away your pains. ||14||
ਜਾ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Jaa Thoo Dhaehi Sadhaa Sukh Paaeae ||
जा तू देहि सदा सुखु पाए ॥
If You so bless me, then I shall find lasting peace.
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
Saachai Sabadhae Saach Kamaaeae ||
साचै सबदे साचु कमाए ॥
Through the True Word of the Shabad, I live the Truth.
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
Andhar Saachaa Man Than Saachaa Bhagath Bharae Bhanddaaree Hae ||15||
अंदरु साचा मनु तनु साचा भगति भरे भंडारी हे ॥१५॥
The True Lord is within me, and my mind and body have become True. I am blessed with the overflowing treasure of devotional worship. ||15||
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
Aapae Vaekhai Hukam Chalaaeae ||
आपे वेखै हुकमि चलाए ॥
He Himself watches, and issues His Command.
ਅਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
Apanaa Bhaanaa Aap Karaaeae ||
अपणा भाणा आपि कराए ॥
He Himself inspires us to obey His Will.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੭॥
Naanak Naam Rathae Bairaagee Man Than Rasanaa Naam Savaaree Hae ||16||7||
नानक नामि रते बैरागी मनु तनु रसना नामि सवारी हे ॥१६॥७॥
O Nanak, only those who are attuned to the Naam are detached; their minds, bodies and tongues are embellished with the Naam. ||16||7||

Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਉਪੰਨਾ ॥
Aapae Aap Oupaae Oupannaa ||
आपे आपु उपाइ उपंना ॥
He Himself created Himself, and came into being.
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੁ ਪਰਛੰਨਾ ॥
Sabh Mehi Varathai Eaek Parashhannaa ||
सभ महि वरतै एकु परछंना ॥
The One Lord is pervading in all, remaining hidden.
ਸਭਨਾ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
Sabhanaa Saar Karae Jagajeevan Jin Apanaa Aap Pashhaathaa Hae ||1||
सभना सार करे जगजीवनु जिनि अपणा आपु पछाता हे ॥१॥
The Lord, the Life of the world, takes care of all. Whoever knows his own self, realizes God. ||1||
ਜਿਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
Jin Brehamaa Bisan Mehaes Oupaaeae ||
जिनि ब्रहमा बिसनु महेसु उपाए ॥
He who created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva,
ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
Sir Sir Dhhandhhai Aapae Laaeae ||
सिरि सिरि धंधै आपे लाए ॥
Links each and every being to its tasks.
ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
Jis Bhaavai This Aapae Maelae Jin Guramukh Eaeko Jaathaa Hae ||2||
जिसु भावै तिसु आपे मेले जिनि गुरमुखि एको जाता हे ॥२॥
He merges into Himself, whoever is pleasing to His Will. The Gurmukh knows the One Lord. ||2||
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
Aavaa Goun Hai Sansaaraa ||
आवा गउणु है संसारा ॥
The world is coming and going in reincarnation.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਹੁ ਚਿਤੈ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohu Bahu Chithai Bikaaraa ||
माइआ मोहु बहु चितै बिकारा ॥
Attached to Maya, it dwells on its many sins.
ਥਿਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
Thhir Saachaa Saalaahee Sadh Hee Jin Gur Kaa Sabadh Pashhaathaa Hae ||3||
थिरु साचा सालाही सद ही जिनि गुर का सबदु पछाता हे ॥३॥
One who realizes the Word of the Guru's Shabad, praises forever the eternal, unchanging True Lord. ||3||
ਇਕਿ ਮੂਲਿ ਲਗੇ ਓਨੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Eik Mool Lagae Ounee Sukh Paaeiaa ||
इकि मूलि लगे ओनी सुखु पाइआ ॥
Some are attached to the root - they find peace.
ਡਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
Ddaalee Laagae Thinee Janam Gavaaeiaa ||
डाली लागे तिनी जनमु गवाइआ ॥
But those who are attached to the branches, waste their lives away uselessly.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਲਾਗੇ ਜੋ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
Anmrith Fal Thin Jan Ko Laagae Jo Bolehi Anmrith Baathaa Hae ||4||
अम्रित फल तिन जन कउ लागे जो बोलहि अम्रित बाता हे ॥४॥
Those humble beings, who chant the Name of the Ambrosial Lord, produce the ambrosial fruit. ||4||
ਹਮ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਬੋਲਹ ਬੋਲ ॥
Ham Gun Naahee Kiaa Boleh Bol ||
हम गुण नाही किआ बोलह बोल ॥
I have no virtues; what words should I speak?
ਤੂ ਸਭਨਾ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਤੋਲਹਿ ਤੋਲ ॥
Thoo Sabhanaa Dhaekhehi Tholehi Thol ||
तू सभना देखहि तोलहि तोल ॥
You see all, and weigh them on Your scale.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਰਹਣਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
Jio Bhaavai Thio Raakhehi Rehanaa Guramukh Eaeko Jaathaa Hae ||5||
जिउ भावै तिउ राखहि रहणा गुरमुखि एको जाता हे ॥५॥
By Your will, You preserve me, and so do I remain. The Gurmukh knows the One Lord. ||5||
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਾ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਏ ॥
Jaa Thudhh Bhaanaa Thaa Sachee Kaarai Laaeae ||
जा तुधु भाणा ता सची कारै लाए ॥
According to Your Will, You link me to my true tasks.
ਅਵਗਣ ਛੋਡਿ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
Avagan Shhodd Gun Maahi Samaaeae ||
अवगण छोडि गुण माहि समाए ॥
Renouncing vice, I am immersed in virtue.
ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
Gun Mehi Eaeko Niramal Saachaa Gur Kai Sabadh Pashhaathaa Hae ||6||
गुण महि एको निरमलु साचा गुर कै सबदि पछाता हे ॥६॥
The One Immaculate True Lord abides in virtue; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is realized. ||6||
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
Jeh Dhaekhaa Theh Eaeko Soee ||
जह देखा तह एको सोई ॥
Wherever I look, there I see Him.
ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਖੋਈ ॥
Dhoojee Dhuramath Sabadhae Khoee ||
दूजी दुरमति सबदे खोई ॥
Duality and evil-mindedness are destroyed through the Shabad.
ਏਕਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਮਾਣਾ ਅਪਣੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਦ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
Eaekas Mehi Prabh Eaek Samaanaa Apanai Rang Sadh Raathaa Hae ||7||
एकसु महि प्रभु एकु समाणा अपणै रंगि सद राता हे ॥७॥
The One Lord God is immersed in His Oneness. He is attuned forever to His own delight. ||7||
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਮਲੁ ਹੈ ਕੁਮਲਾਣਾ ॥
Kaaeiaa Kamal Hai Kumalaanaa ||
काइआ कमलु है कुमलाणा ॥
The body-lotus is withering away,
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਬੁਝੈ ਇਆਣਾ ॥
Manamukh Sabadh N Bujhai Eiaanaa ||
मनमुखु सबदु न बुझै इआणा ॥
But the ignorant, self-willed manmukh does not understand the Shabad.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਾਇਆ ਖੋਜੇ ਪਾਏ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
Gur Parasaadhee Kaaeiaa Khojae Paaeae Jagajeevan Dhaathaa Hae ||8||
गुर परसादी काइआ खोजे पाए जगजीवनु दाता हे ॥८॥
By Guru's Grace, he searches his body, and finds the Great Giver, the Life of the world. ||8||
ਕੋਟ ਗਹੀ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
Kott Gehee Kae Paap Nivaarae ||
कोट गही के पाप निवारे ॥
The Lord frees up the body-fortress, which was seized by sins,
ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
Sadhaa Har Jeeo Raakhai Our Dhhaarae ||
सदा हरि जीउ राखै उर धारे ॥
When one keeps the Dear Lord enshrined forever in the heart.
ਜੋ ਇਛੇ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
Jo Eishhae Soee Fal Paaeae Jio Rang Majeethai Raathaa Hae ||9||
जो इछे सोई फलु पाए जिउ रंगु मजीठै राता हे ॥९॥
The fruits of his desires are obtained, and he is dyed in the permanent color of the Lord's Love. ||9||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਥੇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
Manamukh Giaan Kathhae N Hoee ||
मनमुखु गिआनु कथे न होई ॥
The self-willed manmukh speaks of spiritual wisdom, but does not understand.
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
Fir Fir Aavai Thour N Koee ||
फिरि फिरि आवै ठउर न कोई ॥
Again and again, he comes into the world, but he finds no place of rest.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
Guramukh Giaan Sadhaa Saalaahae Jug Jug Eaeko Jaathaa Hae ||10||
गुरमुखि गिआनु सदा सालाहे जुगि जुगि एको जाता हे ॥१०॥
The Gurmukh is spiritually wise, and praises the Lord forever. Throughout each and every age, the Gurmukh knows the One Lord. ||10||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
Manamukh Kaar Karae Sabh Dhukh Sabaaeae ||
मनमुखु कार करे सभि दुख सबाए ॥
All the deeds which the manmukh does bring pain - nothing but pain.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਉ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਏ ॥
Anthar Sabadh Naahee Kio Dhar Jaaeae ||
अंतरि सबदु नाही किउ दरि जाए ॥
The Word of the Shabad is not within him; how can he go to the Court of the Lord?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਦ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
Guramukh Sabadh Vasai Man Saachaa Sadh Saevae Sukhadhaathaa Hae ||11||
गुरमुखि सबदु वसै मनि साचा सद सेवे सुखदाता हे ॥११॥
The True Shabad dwells deep within the mind of the Gurmukh; he serves the Giver of peace forever. ||11||
