ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadh Har Naam Vakhaanai ||
गुर कै सबदि हरि नामु वखाणै ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he chants the Name of the Lord.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
Anadhin Naam Rathaa Dhin Raathee Maaeiaa Mohu Chukaahaa Hae ||8||
अनदिनु नामि रता दिनु राती माइआ मोहु चुकाहा हे ॥८॥
Night and day, he remains imbued with the Naam, day and night; he is rid of emotional attachment to Maya. ||8||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Gur Saevaa Thae Sabh Kishh Paaeae ||
गुर सेवा ते सभु किछु पाए ॥
Serving the Guru, all things are obtained;
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
Houmai Maeraa Aap Gavaaeae ||
हउमै मेरा आपु गवाए ॥
Egotism, possessiveness and self-conceit are taken away.
ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸੋਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
Aapae Kirapaa Karae Sukhadhaathaa Gur Kai Sabadhae Sohaa Hae ||9||
आपे क्रिपा करे सुखदाता गुर कै सबदे सोहा हे ॥९॥
The Lord, the Giver of peace Himself grants His Grace; He exalts and adorns with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||9||
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Anmrith Hai Baanee ||
गुर का सबदु अम्रित है बाणी ॥
The Guru's Shabad is the Ambrosial Bani.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
Anadhin Har Kaa Naam Vakhaanee ||
अनदिनु हरि का नामु वखाणी ॥
Night and day, chant the Name of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੋ ਘਟੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
Har Har Sachaa Vasai Ghatt Anthar So Ghatt Niramal Thaahaa Hae ||10||
हरि हरि सचा वसै घट अंतरि सो घटु निरमलु ताहा हे ॥१०॥
That heart becomes immaculate, which is filled with the True Lord, Har, Har. ||10||
ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹਹਿ ॥
Saevak Saevehi Sabadh Salaahehi ||
सेवक सेवहि सबदि सलाहहि ॥
His servants serve, and praise His Shabad.
ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥
Sadhaa Rang Raathae Har Gun Gaavehi ||
सदा रंगि राते हरि गुण गावहि ॥
Imbued forever with the color of His Love, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਪਰਮਲ ਵਾਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
Aapae Bakhasae Sabadh Milaaeae Paramal Vaas Man Thaahaa Hae ||11||
आपे बखसे सबदि मिलाए परमल वासु मनि ताहा हे ॥११॥
He Himself forgives, and unites them with the Shabad; the fragrance of sandalwood permeates their minds. ||11||
ਸਬਦੇ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥੇ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ॥
Sabadhae Akathh Kathhae Saalaahae ||
सबदे अकथु कथे सालाहे ॥
Through the Shabad, they speak the Unspoken, and praise the Lord.
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥
Maerae Prabh Saachae Vaeparavaahae ||
मेरे प्रभ साचे वेपरवाहे ॥
My True Lord God is self-sufficient.
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਾ ਰਸੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
Aapae Gunadhaathaa Sabadh Milaaeae Sabadhai Kaa Ras Thaahaa Hae ||12||
आपे गुणदाता सबदि मिलाए सबदै का रसु ताहा हे ॥१२॥
The Giver of virtue Himself unites them with the Shabad; they enjoy the sublime essence of the Shabad. ||12||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
Manamukh Bhoolaa Thour N Paaeae ||
मनमुखु भूला ठउर न पाए ॥
The confused, self-willed manmukhs find no place of rest.
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
Jo Dhhur Likhiaa S Karam Kamaaeae ||
जो धुरि लिखिआ सु करम कमाए ॥
They do those deeds which they are pre-destined to do.
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਾਤੇ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਖੋਜੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
Bikhiaa Raathae Bikhiaa Khojai Mar Janamai Dhukh Thaahaa Hae ||13||
बिखिआ राते बिखिआ खोजै मरि जनमै दुखु ताहा हे ॥१३॥
Imbued with poison, they search out poison, and suffer the pains of death and rebirth. ||13||
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ॥
Aapae Aap Aap Saalaahae ||
आपे आपि आपि सालाहे ॥
He Himself praises Himself.
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹੇ ॥
Thaerae Gun Prabh Thujh Hee Maahae ||
तेरे गुण प्रभ तुझ ही माहे ॥
Your Glorious Virtues are within You alone, God.
ਤੂ ਆਪਿ ਸਚਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੀ ਆਪੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
Thoo Aap Sachaa Thaeree Baanee Sachee Aapae Alakh Athhaahaa Hae ||14||
तू आपि सचा तेरी बाणी सची आपे अलखु अथाहा हे ॥१४॥
You Yourself are True, and True is the Word of Your Bani. You Yourself are invisible and unknowable. ||14||
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
Bin Gur Dhaathae Koe N Paaeae ||
बिनु गुर दाते कोइ न पाए ॥
Without the Guru, the Giver, no one finds the Lord,
ਲਖ ਕੋਟੀ ਜੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
Lakh Kottee Jae Karam Kamaaeae ||
लख कोटी जे करम कमाए ॥
Though one may make hundreds of thousands and millions of attempts.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
Gur Kirapaa Thae Ghatt Anthar Vasiaa Sabadhae Sach Saalaahaa Hae ||15||
गुर किरपा ते घट अंतरि वसिआ सबदे सचु सालाहा हे ॥१५॥
By Guru's Grace, He dwells deep within the heart; through the Shabad, praise the True Lord. ||15||
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
Sae Jan Milae Dhhur Aap Milaaeae ||
से जन मिले धुरि आपि मिलाए ॥
They alone meet Him, whom the Lord unites with Himself.
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥
Saachee Baanee Sabadh Suhaaeae ||
साची बाणी सबदि सुहाए ॥
They are adorned and exalted with the True Word of His Bani, and the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੪॥੧੩॥
Naanak Jan Gun Gaavai Nith Saachae Gun Gaaveh Gunee Samaahaa Hae ||16||4||13||
नानक जनु गुण गावै नित साचे गुण गावह गुणी समाहा हे ॥१६॥४॥१३॥
Servant Nanak continually sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; singing His Glories, he is immersed in the Glorious Lord of Virtue. ||16||4||13||

मारू महला ३ ॥
Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
Nihachal Eaek Sadhaa Sach Soee ||
निहचलु एकु सदा सचु सोई ॥
The One Lord is eternal and unchanging, forever True.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
Poorae Gur Thae Sojhee Hoee ||
पूरे गुर ते सोझी होई ॥
Through the Perfect Guru, this understanding is obtained.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਭੀਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੀਲੁ ਸੰਨਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
Har Ras Bheenae Sadhaa Dhhiaaein Guramath Seel Sannaahaa Hae ||1||
हरि रसि भीने सदा धिआइनि गुरमति सीलु संनाहा हे ॥१॥
Those who are drenched with the sublime essence of the Lord, meditate forever on Him; following the Guru's Teachings, they obtain the armor of humility. ||1||
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ॥
Andhar Rang Sadhaa Sachiaaraa ||
अंदरि रंगु सदा सचिआरा ॥
Deep within, they love the True Lord forever.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadh Har Naam Piaaraa ||
गुर कै सबदि हरि नामि पिआरा ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they love the Lord's Name.
ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
No Nidhh Naam Vasiaa Ghatt Anthar Shhoddiaa Maaeiaa Kaa Laahaa Hae ||2||
नउ निधि नामु वसिआ घट अंतरि छोडिआ माइआ का लाहा हे ॥२॥
The Naam, the embodiment of the nine treasures, abides within their hearts; they renounce the profit of Maya. ||2||
ਰਈਅਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੋਈ ॥
Reeath Raajae Dhuramath Dhoee ||
रईअति राजे दुरमति दोई ॥
Both the king and his subjects are involved in evil-mindedness and duality.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਏਕੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
Bin Sathigur Saevae Eaek N Hoee ||
बिनु सतिगुर सेवे एकु न होई ॥
Without serving the True Guru, they do not become one with the Lord.
ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਤਿਨਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
Eaek Dhhiaaein Sadhaa Sukh Paaein Nihachal Raaj Thinaahaa Hae ||3||
एकु धिआइनि सदा सुखु पाइनि निहचलु राजु तिनाहा हे ॥३॥
Those who meditate on the One Lord find eternal peace. Their power is eternal and unfailing. ||3||
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਰਖੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
Aavan Jaanaa Rakhai N Koee ||
आवणु जाणा रखै न कोई ॥
No one can save them from coming and going.
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥
Janman Maran Thisai Thae Hoee ||
जमणु मरणु तिसै ते होई ॥
Birth and death come from Him.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਗਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਤੇ ਪਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
Guramukh Saachaa Sadhaa Dhhiaavahu Gath Mukath Thisai Thae Paahaa Hae ||4||
गुरमुखि साचा सदा धिआवहु गति मुकति तिसै ते पाहा हे ॥४॥
The Gurmukh meditates forever on the True Lord. Emancipation and liberation are obtained from Him. ||4||
ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ॥
Sach Sanjam Sathiguroo Dhuaarai ||
सचु संजमु सतिगुरू दुआरै ॥
Truth and self-control are found through the Door of the True Guru.
ਹਉਮੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥
Houmai Krodhh Sabadh Nivaarai ||
हउमै क्रोधु सबदि निवारै ॥
Egotism and anger are silenced through the Shabad.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੀਲੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
Sathigur Saev Sadhaa Sukh Paaeeai Seel Santhokh Sabh Thaahaa Hae ||5||
सतिगुरु सेवि सदा सुखु पाईऐ सीलु संतोखु सभु ताहा हे ॥५॥
Serving the True Guru, lasting peace is found; humility and contentment all come from Him. ||5||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
Houmai Mohu Oupajai Sansaaraa ||
हउमै मोहु उपजै संसारा ॥
Out of egotism and attachment, the Universe welled up.
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਾ ॥
Sabh Jag Binasai Naam Visaaraa ||
सभु जगु बिनसै नामु विसारा ॥
Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, all the world perishes.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਜਗਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
Bin Sathigur Saevae Naam N Paaeeai Naam Sachaa Jag Laahaa Hae ||6||
बिनु सतिगुर सेवे नामु न पाईऐ नामु सचा जगि लाहा हे ॥६॥
Without serving the True Guru, the Naam is not obtained. The Naam is the True profit in this world. ||6||
ਸਚਾ ਅਮਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥
Sachaa Amar Sabadh Suhaaeiaa ||
सचा अमरु सबदि सुहाइआ ॥
True is His Will, beauteous and pleasing through the Word of the Shabad.
ਪੰਚ ਸਬਦ ਮਿਲਿ ਵਾਜਾ ਵਾਇਆ ॥
Panch Sabadh Mil Vaajaa Vaaeiaa ||
पंच सबद मिलि वाजा वाइआ ॥
The Panch Shabad, the five primal sounds, vibrate and resonate.
