ਸਦਾ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
Sadhaa Kaaraj Sach Naam Suhaelaa Bin Sabadhai Kaaraj Kaehaa Hae ||7||
सदा कारजु सचि नामि सुहेला बिनु सबदै कारजु केहा हे ॥७॥
Through the True Name, one's actions are forever embellished. Without the Shabad, what can anyone do? ||7||
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਹਸੈ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
Khin Mehi Hasai Khin Mehi Rovai ||
खिन महि हसै खिन महि रोवै ॥
One instant, he laughs, and the next instant, he cries.
ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
Dhoojee Dhuramath Kaaraj N Hovai ||
दूजी दुरमति कारजु न होवै ॥
Because of duality and evil-mindedness, his affairs are not resolved.
ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਚਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
Sanjog Vijog Karathai Likh Paaeae Kirath N Chalai Chalaahaa Hae ||8||
संजोगु विजोगु करतै लिखि पाए किरतु न चलै चलाहा हे ॥८॥
Union and separation are pre-ordained by the Creator. Actions already committed cannot be taken back. ||8||
ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
Jeevan Mukath Gur Sabadh Kamaaeae ||
जीवन मुकति गुर सबदु कमाए ॥
One who lives the Word of the Guru's Shabad becomes Jivan Mukta - liberated while yet alive.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
Har Sio Sadh Hee Rehai Samaaeae ||
हरि सिउ सद ही रहै समाए ॥
He remains forever immersed in the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
Gur Kirapaa Thae Milai Vaddiaaee Houmai Rog N Thaahaa Hae ||9||
गुर किरपा ते मिलै वडिआई हउमै रोगु न ताहा हे ॥९॥
By Guru's Grace, one is blessed with glorious greatness; he is not afflicted by the disease of egotism. ||9||
ਰਸ ਕਸ ਖਾਏ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਵਧਾਏ ॥
Ras Kas Khaaeae Pindd Vadhhaaeae ||
रस कस खाए पिंडु वधाए ॥
Eating tasty delicacies, he fattens up his body
ਭੇਖ ਕਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
Bhaekh Karai Gur Sabadh N Kamaaeae ||
भेख करै गुर सबदु न कमाए ॥
And wears religious robes, but he does not live to the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਰੀ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
Anthar Rog Mehaa Dhukh Bhaaree Bisattaa Maahi Samaahaa Hae ||10||
अंतरि रोगु महा दुखु भारी बिसटा माहि समाहा हे ॥१०॥
Deep with the nucleus of his being is the great disease; he suffers terrible pain, and eventually sinks into the manure. ||10||
ਬੇਦ ਪੜਹਿ ਪੜਿ ਬਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ॥
Baedh Parrehi Parr Baadh Vakhaanehi ||
बेद पड़हि पड़ि बादु वखाणहि ॥
He reads and studies the Vedas, and argues about them;
ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ॥
Ghatt Mehi Breham This Sabadh N Pashhaanehi ||
घट महि ब्रहमु तिसु सबदि न पछाणहि ॥
God is within his own heart, but he does not recognize the Word of the Shabad.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਤਤੁ ਬਿਲੋਵੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
Guramukh Hovai S Thath Bilovai Rasanaa Har Ras Thaahaa Hae ||11||
गुरमुखि होवै सु ततु बिलोवै रसना हरि रसु ताहा हे ॥११॥
One who becomes Gurmukh churns the essence of reality; his tongue savors the sublime essence of the Lord. ||11||
ਘਰਿ ਵਥੁ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਧਾਵਹਿ ॥
Ghar Vathh Shhoddehi Baahar Dhhaavehi ||
घरि वथु छोडहि बाहरि धावहि ॥
Those who forsake the object within their own hearts, wander outside.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
Manamukh Andhhae Saadh N Paavehi ||
मनमुख अंधे सादु न पावहि ॥
The blind, self-willed manmukhs do not taste the flavor of God.
ਅਨ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਫੀਕੀ ਬੋਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
An Ras Raathee Rasanaa Feekee Bolae Har Ras Mool N Thaahaa Hae ||12||
अन रस राती रसना फीकी बोले हरि रसु मूलि न ताहा हे ॥१२॥
Imbued with the taste of another, their tongues speak tasteless, insipid words. They never taste the sublime essence of the Lord. ||12||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦੇਹੀ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਤਾਰੋ ॥
Manamukh Dhaehee Bharam Bhathaaro ||
मनमुख देही भरमु भतारो ॥
The self-willed manmukh has doubt as his spouse.
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੋ ॥
Dhuramath Marai Nith Hoe Khuaaro ||
दुरमति मरै नित होइ खुआरो ॥
He dies of evil-mindedness, and suffers forever.
ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਮਨੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਇਆ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
Kaam Krodhh Man Dhoojai Laaeiaa Supanai Sukh N Thaahaa Hae ||13||
कामि क्रोधि मनु दूजै लाइआ सुपनै सुखु न ताहा हे ॥१३॥
His mind is attached to sexual desire, anger and duality, and he does not find peace, even in dreams. ||13||
ਕੰਚਨ ਦੇਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਭਤਾਰੋ ॥
Kanchan Dhaehee Sabadh Bhathaaro ||
कंचन देही सबदु भतारो ॥
The body becomes golden, with the Word of the Shabad as its spouse.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥
Anadhin Bhog Bhogae Har Sio Piaaro ||
अनदिनु भोग भोगे हरि सिउ पिआरो ॥
Night and day, enjoy the enjoyments, and be in love with the Lord.
ਮਹਲਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਗੈਰ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਭਾਣਾ ਬੁਝਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
Mehalaa Andhar Gair Mehal Paaeae Bhaanaa Bujh Samaahaa Hae ||14||
महला अंदरि गैर महलु पाए भाणा बुझि समाहा हे ॥१४॥
Deep within the mansion of the self, one finds the Lord, who transcends this mansion. Realizing His Will, we merge in Him. ||14||
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
Aapae Dhaevai Dhaevanehaaraa ||
आपे देवै देवणहारा ॥
The Great Giver Himself gives.
ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਚਾਰਾ ॥
This Aagai Nehee Kisai Kaa Chaaraa ||
तिसु आगै नही किसै का चारा ॥
No one has any power to stand against Him.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
Aapae Bakhasae Sabadh Milaaeae This Dhaa Sabadh Athhaahaa Hae ||15||
आपे बखसे सबदि मिलाए तिस दा सबदु अथाहा हे ॥१५॥
He Himself forgives, and unites us with the Shabad; The Word of His Shabad is unfathomable. ||15||
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ ॥
Jeeo Pindd Sabh Hai This Kaeraa ||
जीउ पिंडु सभु है तिसु केरा ॥
Body and soul, all belong to Him.
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
Sachaa Saahib Thaakur Maeraa ||
सचा साहिबु ठाकुरु मेरा ॥
The True Lord is my only Lord and Master.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੫॥੧੪॥
Naanak Gurabaanee Har Paaeiaa Har Jap Jaap Samaahaa Hae ||16||5||14||
नानक गुरबाणी हरि पाइआ हरि जपु जापि समाहा हे ॥१६॥५॥१४॥
O Nanak, through the Word of the Guru's Bani, I have found the Lord. Chanting the Lord's Chant, I merge in Him. ||16||5||14||

The Gurmukh contemplates the sound current of the Naad instead of the Vedas.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਆਪਾਰੁ ॥
Guramukh Giaan Dhhiaan Aapaar ||
गुरमुखि गिआनु धिआनु आपारु ॥
The Gurmukh attains infinite spiritual wisdom and meditation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
Guramukh Kaar Karae Prabh Bhaavai Guramukh Pooraa Paaeidhaa ||1||
गुरमुखि कार करे प्रभ भावै गुरमुखि पूरा पाइदा ॥१॥
The Gurmukh acts in harmony with God's Will; the Gurmukh finds perfection. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਉਲਟਿ ਪਰਾਵੈ ॥
Guramukh Manooaa Oulatt Paraavai ||
गुरमुखि मनूआ उलटि परावै ॥
The mind of the Gurmukh turns away from the world.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵੈ ॥
Guramukh Baanee Naadh Vajaavai ||
गुरमुखि बाणी नादु वजावै ॥
The Gurmukh vibrates the Naad, the sound current of the Guru's Bani.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
Guramukh Sach Rathae Bairaagee Nij Ghar Vaasaa Paaeidhaa ||2||
गुरमुखि सचि रते बैरागी निज घरि वासा पाइदा ॥२॥
The Gurmukh, attuned to the Truth, remains detached, and dwells in the home of the self deep within. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਾਖੀ ॥
Gur Kee Saakhee Anmrith Bhaakhee ||
गुर की साखी अम्रित भाखी ॥
I speak the Ambrosial Teachings of the Guru.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਭਾਖੀ ॥
Sachai Sabadhae Sach Subhaakhee ||
सचै सबदे सचु सुभाखी ॥
I lovingly chant the Truth, through the True Word of the Shabad.
ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
Sadhaa Sach Rang Raathaa Man Maeraa Sachae Sach Samaaeidhaa ||3||
सदा सचि रंगि राता मनु मेरा सचे सचि समाइदा ॥३॥
My mind remains forever imbued with the Love of the True Lord. I am immersed in the Truest of the True. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ॥
Guramukh Man Niramal Sath Sar Naavai ||
गुरमुखि मनु निरमलु सत सरि नावै ॥
Immaculate and pure is the mind of the Gurmukh, who bathes in the Pool of Truth.
ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
Mail N Laagai Sach Samaavai ||
मैलु न लागै सचि समावै ॥
No filth attaches to him; he merges in the True Lord.
ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
Sacho Sach Kamaavai Sadh Hee Sachee Bhagath Dhrirraaeidhaa ||4||
सचो सचु कमावै सद ही सची भगति द्रिड़ाइदा ॥४॥
He truly practices Truth forever; true devotion is implanted within him. ||4||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਬੈਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਨੈਣੀ ॥
Guramukh Sach Bainee Guramukh Sach Nainee ||
गुरमुखि सचु बैणी गुरमुखि सचु नैणी ॥
True is the speech of the Gurmukh; true are the eyes of the Gurmukh.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕਰਣੀ ॥
Guramukh Sach Kamaavai Karanee ||
गुरमुखि सचु कमावै करणी ॥
The Gurmukh practices and lives the Truth.
ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਅਵਰਾ ਸਚੁ ਕਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
Sadh Hee Sach Kehai Dhin Raathee Avaraa Sach Kehaaeidhaa ||5||
सद ही सचु कहै दिनु राती अवरा सचु कहाइदा ॥५॥
He speaks the Truth forever, day and night, and inspires others to speak the Truth. ||5||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੀ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Guramukh Sachee Ootham Baanee ||
गुरमुखि सची ऊतम बाणी ॥
True and exalted is the speech of the Gurmukh.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
Guramukh Sacho Sach Vakhaanee ||
गुरमुखि सचो सचु वखाणी ॥
The Gurmukh speaks Truth, only Truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
Guramukh Sadh Saevehi Sacho Sachaa Guramukh Sabadh Sunaaeidhaa ||6||
गुरमुखि सद सेवहि सचो सचा गुरमुखि सबदु सुणाइदा ॥६॥
The Gurmukh serves the Truest of the True forever; the Gurmukh proclaims the Word of the Shabad. ||6||
