ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥

पूरै सतिगुरि सोझी पाई ॥
The Perfect True Guru has imparted this understanding.
ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
Eaeko Naam Mann Vasaaee ||
एको नामु मंनि वसाई ॥
I have enshrined the Naam, the One Name, within my mind.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀ ਤੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
Naam Japee Thai Naam Dhhiaaee Mehal Paae Gun Gaahaa Hae ||11||
नामु जपी तै नामु धिआई महलु पाइ गुण गाहा हे ॥११॥
I chant the Naam, and meditate on the Naam. Singing His Glorious Praises, I enter the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. ||11||
ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Saevak Saevehi Mann Hukam Apaaraa ||
सेवक सेवहि मंनि हुकमु अपारा ॥
The servant serves, and obeys the Command of the Infinite Lord.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਾਰਾ ॥
Manamukh Hukam N Jaanehi Saaraa ||
मनमुख हुकमु न जाणहि सारा ॥
The self-willed manmukhs do not know the value of the Lord's Command.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮੰਨੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
Hukamae Mannae Hukamae Vaddiaaee Hukamae Vaeparavaahaa Hae ||12||
हुकमे मंने हुकमे वडिआई हुकमे वेपरवाहा हे ॥१२॥
By the Hukam of the Lord's Command, one is exalted; by His Hukam, one is glorified; by His Hukam, one becomes carefree. ||12||
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Hukam Pashhaanai ||
गुर परसादी हुकमु पछाणै ॥
By Guru's Grace, one recognizes the Lord's Hukam.
ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੈ ॥
Dhhaavath Raakhai Eikath Ghar Aanai ||
धावतु राखै इकतु घरि आणै ॥
The wandering mind is restrained, and brought back to the home of the One Lord.
ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
Naamae Raathaa Sadhaa Bairaagee Naam Rathan Man Thaahaa Hae ||13||
नामे राता सदा बैरागी नामु रतनु मनि ताहा हे ॥१३॥
Imbued with the Naam, one remains forever detached; the jewel of the Naam rests within the mind. ||13||
ਸਭ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
Sabh Jag Mehi Varathai Eaeko Soee ||
सभ जग महि वरतै एको सोई ॥
The One Lord is pervasive throughout all the world.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Paragatt Hoee ||
गुर परसादी परगटु होई ॥
By Guru's Grace, He is revealed.
ਸਬਦੁ ਸਲਾਹਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
Sabadh Salaahehi Sae Jan Niramal Nij Ghar Vaasaa Thaahaa Hae ||14||
सबदु सलाहहि से जन निरमल निज घरि वासा ताहा हे ॥१४॥
Those humble beings who praise the Shabad are immaculate; they dwell within the home of their own inner self. ||14||
ਸਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
Sadhaa Bhagath Thaeree Saranaaee ||
सदा भगत तेरी सरणाई ॥
The devotees abide forever in Your Sanctuary, Lord.
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
Agam Agochar Keemath Nehee Paaee ||
अगम अगोचर कीमति नही पाई ॥
You are inaccessible and unfathomable; Your value cannot be estimated.
ਜਿਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
Jio Thudhh Bhaavehi Thio Thoo Raakhehi Guramukh Naam Dhhiaahaa Hae ||15||
जिउ तुधु भावहि तिउ तू राखहि गुरमुखि नामु धिआहा हे ॥१५॥
As it pleases Your Will, You keep us; the Gurmukh meditates on the Naam. ||15||
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ॥
Sadhaa Sadhaa Thaerae Gun Gaavaa ||
सदा सदा तेरे गुण गावा ॥
Forever and ever, I sing Your Glorious Praises.
ਸਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਾ ॥
Sachae Saahib Thaerai Man Bhaavaa ||
सचे साहिब तेरै मनि भावा ॥
O my True Lord and Master, may I become pleasing to Your Mind.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੧੦॥
Naanak Saach Kehai Baenanthee Sach Dhaevahu Sach Samaahaa Hae ||16||1||10||
नानकु साचु कहै बेनंती सचु देवहु सचि समाहा हे ॥१६॥१॥१०॥
Nanak offers this true prayer: O Lord, please bless me with Truth, that I may merge in the Truth. ||16||1||10||

Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
Sathigur Saevan Sae Vaddabhaagee ||
सतिगुरु सेवनि से वडभागी ॥
Those who serve the True Guru are very fortunate.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
Anadhin Saach Naam Liv Laagee ||
अनदिनु साचि नामि लिव लागी ॥
Night and day, they remain lovingly attuned to the True Name.
ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਰਵਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਓਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
Sadhaa Sukhadhaathaa Raviaa Ghatt Anthar Sabadh Sachai Oumaahaa Hae ||1||
सदा सुखदाता रविआ घट अंतरि सबदि सचै ओमाहा हे ॥१॥
The Lord, the Giver of peace, abides forever deep within their hearts; they delight in the True Word of the Shabad. ||1||
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
Nadhar Karae Thaa Guroo Milaaeae ||
नदरि करे ता गुरू मिलाए ॥
When the Lord grants His Grace, one meets with the Guru.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Mann Vasaaeae ||
हरि का नामु मंनि वसाए ॥
The Name of the Lord is enshrined within the mind.
ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਮਨਿ ਓਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
Har Man Vasiaa Sadhaa Sukhadhaathaa Sabadhae Man Oumaahaa Hae ||2||
हरि मनि वसिआ सदा सुखदाता सबदे मनि ओमाहा हे ॥२॥
The Lord, the Giver of peace, abides forever within the mind; the mind is delighted with the Word of the Shabad. ||2||
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
Kirapaa Karae Thaa Mael Milaaeae ||
क्रिपा करे ता मेलि मिलाए ॥
When the Lord bestows His Mercy, He unites in His Union.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
Houmai Mamathaa Sabadh Jalaaeae ||
हउमै ममता सबदि जलाए ॥
Egotism and attachment are burned away by the Shabad.
ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਇਕ ਰੰਗੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਕਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
Sadhaa Mukath Rehai Eik Rangee Naahee Kisai Naal Kaahaa Hae ||3||
सदा मुकतु रहै इक रंगी नाही किसै नालि काहा हे ॥३॥
In the Love of the One Lord, one remains liberated forever; he is not in conflict with anyone. ||3||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥
Bin Sathigur Saevae Ghor Andhhaaraa ||
बिनु सतिगुर सेवे घोर अंधारा ॥
Without serving the True Guru, there is only pitch-black darkness.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਾਰਾ ॥
Bin Sabadhai Koe N Paavai Paaraa ||
बिनु सबदै कोइ न पावै पारा ॥
Without the Shabad, no one crosses over to the other side.
ਜੋ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
Jo Sabadh Raathae Mehaa Bairaagee So Sach Sabadhae Laahaa Hae ||4||
जो सबदि राते महा बैरागी सो सचु सबदे लाहा हे ॥४॥
Those who are imbued with the Shabad, are very detached. They earn the profit of the True Word of the Shabad. ||4||
ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਰਤੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Dhukh Sukh Karathai Dhhur Likh Paaeiaa ||
दुखु सुखु करतै धुरि लिखि पाइआ ॥
Pain and pleasure are pre-ordained by the Creator.
ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ ॥
Dhoojaa Bhaao Aap Varathaaeiaa ||
दूजा भाउ आपि वरताइआ ॥
He Himself has caused the love of duality to be pervasive.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਵੇਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
Guramukh Hovai S Alipatho Varathai Manamukh Kaa Kiaa Vaesaahaa Hae ||5||
गुरमुखि होवै सु अलिपतो वरतै मनमुख का किआ वेसाहा हे ॥५॥
One who becomes Gurmukh remains detached; how can anyone trust the self-willed manmukh? ||5||
ਸੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ॥
Sae Manamukh Jo Sabadh N Pashhaanehi ||
से मनमुख जो सबदु न पछाणहि ॥
Those who do not recognize the Shabad are manmukhs.
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਭੈ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ॥
Gur Kae Bhai Kee Saar N Jaanehi ||
गुर के भै की सार न जाणहि ॥
They do not know the essence of the Fear of the Guru.
ਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਮੁ ਕਾਢਿ ਲਏਗਾ ਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
Bhai Bin Kio Nirabho Sach Paaeeai Jam Kaadt Leaegaa Saahaa Hae ||6||
भै बिनु किउ निरभउ सचु पाईऐ जमु काढि लएगा साहा हे ॥६॥
Without this Fear, how can anyone find the Fearless True Lord? The Messenger of Death will pull the breath out. ||6||
ਅਫਰਿਓ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
Afariou Jam Maariaa N Jaaee ||
अफरिओ जमु मारिआ न जाई ॥
The invulnerable Messenger of Death cannot be killed.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadhae Naerr N Aaee ||
गुर कै सबदे नेड़ि न आई ॥
The Word of the Guru's Shabad prevents him from approaching.
ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣੇ ਤਾ ਦੂਰਹੁ ਭਾਗੈ ਮਤੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
Sabadh Sunae Thaa Dhoorahu Bhaagai Math Maarae Har Jeeo Vaeparavaahaa Hae ||7||
सबदु सुणे ता दूरहु भागै मतु मारे हरि जीउ वेपरवाहा हे ॥७॥
When he hears the Word of the Shabad, he runs far away. He is afraid that the self-sufficient Dear Lord will kill him. ||7||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਸਿਰਕਾਰਾ ॥
Har Jeeo Kee Hai Sabh Sirakaaraa ||
हरि जीउ की है सभ सिरकारा ॥
The Dear Lord is the Ruler above all.
ਏਹੁ ਜਮੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
Eaehu Jam Kiaa Karae Vichaaraa ||
एहु जमु किआ करे विचारा ॥
What can this wretched Messenger of Death do?
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਢਦਾ ਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
Hukamee Bandhaa Hukam Kamaavai Hukamae Kadtadhaa Saahaa Hae ||8||
हुकमी बंदा हुकमु कमावै हुकमे कढदा साहा हे ॥८॥
As slave to the Hukam of the Lord's Command, the mortal acts according to His Hukam. According to His Hukam, he is deprived of his breath. ||8||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਕੀਆ ਅਕਾਰਾ ॥
Guramukh Saachai Keeaa Akaaraa ||
गुरमुखि साचै कीआ अकारा ॥
The Gurmukh realizes that the True Lord created the creation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
Guramukh Pasariaa Sabh Paasaaraa ||
गुरमुखि पसरिआ सभु पासारा ॥
The Gurmukh knows that the Lord has expanded the entire expanse.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
Guramukh Hovai So Sach Boojhai Sabadh Sachai Sukh Thaahaa Hae ||9||
गुरमुखि होवै सो सचु बूझै सबदि सचै सुखु ताहा हे ॥९॥
One who becomes Gurmukh, understands the True Lord. Through the True Word of the Shabad, he finds peace. ||9||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
Guramukh Jaathaa Karam Bidhhaathaa ||
गुरमुखि जाता करमि बिधाता ॥
The Gurmukh knows that the Lord is the Architect of karma.
