ਪਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਸਿਉ ਘਾਲੈ ਧੰਧਾ ॥
Par Naaree Sio Ghaalai Dhhandhhaa ||
पर नारी सिउ घालै धंधा ॥
And has an affair with another woman.
ਜੈਸੇ ਸਿੰਬਲੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੂਆ ਬਿਗਸਾਨਾ ॥
Jaisae Sinbal Dhaekh Sooaa Bigasaanaa ||
जैसे सि्मबलु देखि सूआ बिगसाना ॥
He is like the parrot, who is pleased to see the simbal tree;
ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਮੂਆ ਲਪਟਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
Anth Kee Baar Mooaa Lapattaanaa ||1||
अंत की बार मूआ लपटाना ॥१॥
But in the end, he dies, stuck to it. ||1||
ਪਾਪੀ ਕਾ ਘਰੁ ਅਗਨੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Paapee Kaa Ghar Aganae Maahi ||
पापी का घरु अगने माहि ॥
The home of the sinner is on fire.
ਜਲਤ ਰਹੈ ਮਿਟਵੈ ਕਬ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jalath Rehai Mittavai Kab Naahi ||1|| Rehaao ||
जलत रहै मिटवै कब नाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
It keeps burning, and the fire cannot be extinguished. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਦੇਖੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
Har Kee Bhagath N Dhaekhai Jaae ||
हरि की भगति न देखै जाइ ॥
He does not go to see where the Lord is being worshipped.
ਮਾਰਗੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਅਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
Maarag Shhodd Amaarag Paae ||
मारगु छोडि अमारगि पाइ ॥
He abandons the Lord's Path, and takes the wrong path.
ਮੂਲਹੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
Moolahu Bhoolaa Aavai Jaae ||
मूलहु भूला आवै जाइ ॥
He forgets the Primal Lord God, and is caught in the cycle of reincarnation.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਡਾਰਿ ਲਾਦਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥
Anmrith Ddaar Laadh Bikh Khaae ||2||
अम्रितु डारि लादि बिखु खाइ ॥२॥
He throws away the Ambrosial Nectar, and gathers poison to eat. ||2||
ਜਿਉ ਬੇਸ੍ਵਾ ਕੇ ਪਰੈ ਅਖਾਰਾ ॥
Jio Baesvaa Kae Parai Akhaaraa ||
जिउ बेस्वा के परै अखारा ॥
He is like the prostitute, who comes to dance,
ਕਾਪਰੁ ਪਹਿਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਾ ॥
Kaapar Pehir Karehi Sanaeegaaraa ||
कापरु पहिरि करहि सींगारा ॥
Wearing beautiful clothes, decorated and adorned.
ਪੂਰੇ ਤਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ਸਾਸ ॥
Poorae Thaal Nihaalae Saas ||
पूरे ताल निहाले सास ॥
She dances to the beat, exciting the breath of those who watch her.
ਵਾ ਕੇ ਗਲੇ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਹੈ ਫਾਸ ॥੩॥
Vaa Kae Galae Jam Kaa Hai Faas ||3||
वा के गले जम का है फास ॥३॥
But the noose of the Messenger of Death is around her neck. ||3||
ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
Jaa Kae Masathak Likhiou Karamaa ||
जा के मसतकि लिखिओ करमा ॥
One who has good karma recorded on his forehead,
ਸੋ ਭਜਿ ਪਰਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥
So Bhaj Par Hai Gur Kee Saranaa ||
सो भजि परि है गुर की सरना ॥
Hurries to enter the Guru's Sanctuary.
ਕਹਤ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਇਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

कहत नामदेउ इहु बीचारु ॥

इन बिधि संतहु उतरहु पारि ॥४॥२॥८॥
O Saints, this is the way to cross over to the other side. ||4||2||8||
ਸੰਡਾ ਮਰਕਾ ਜਾਇ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ॥
Sanddaa Marakaa Jaae Pukaarae ||
संडा मरका जाइ पुकारे ॥
Sanda and Marka went and complained to Harnaakhash,
ਪੜੈ ਨਹੀ ਹਮ ਹੀ ਪਚਿ ਹਾਰੇ ॥
Parrai Nehee Ham Hee Pach Haarae ||
पड़ै नही हम ही पचि हारे ॥
"Your son does not read his lessons. We are tired of trying to teach him.
ਰਾਮੁ ਕਹੈ ਕਰ ਤਾਲ ਬਜਾਵੈ ਚਟੀਆ ਸਭੈ ਬਿਗਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
Raam Kehai Kar Thaal Bajaavai Chatteeaa Sabhai Bigaarae ||1||
रामु कहै कर ताल बजावै चटीआ सभै बिगारे ॥१॥
He chants the Lord's Name, clapping his hands to keep the beat; he has spoiled all the other students. ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਜਪਿਬੋ ਕਰੈ ॥

राम नामा जपिबो करै ॥
He chants the Lord's Name,
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਕੋ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਧਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Hiradhai Har Jee Ko Simaran Dhharai ||1|| Rehaao ||
हिरदै हरि जी को सिमरनु धरै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
And he has enshrined meditative remembrance of the Lord within his heart.""||1||Pause||
ਬਸੁਧਾ ਬਸਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਸਭ ਰਾਜੇ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਕਰੈ ਪਟਰਾਨੀ ॥
Basudhhaa Bas Keenee Sabh Raajae Binathee Karai Pattaraanee ||
बसुधा बसि कीनी सभ राजे बिनती करै पटरानी ॥
"Your father the king has conquered the whole world", said his mother the queen.
ਪੂਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦੁ ਕਹਿਆ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਨੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਤਉ ਅਉਰੈ ਠਾਨੀ ॥੨॥
Pooth Prehilaadh Kehiaa Nehee Maanai Thin Tho Aourai Thaanee ||2||
पूतु प्रहिलादु कहिआ नही मानै तिनि तउ अउरै ठानी ॥२॥
"O Prahlad my son, you do not obey him, so he has decided to deal with you in another way."||2||
ਦੁਸਟ ਸਭਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਤਰ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਸਹ ਅਉਧ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥
Dhusatt Sabhaa Mil Manthar Oupaaeiaa Karaseh Aoudhh Ghanaeree ||
दुसट सभा मिलि मंतर उपाइआ करसह अउध घनेरी ॥
The council of villians met and resolved to send Prahlaad into the life hereafter.
ਗਿਰਿ ਤਰ ਜਲ ਜੁਆਲਾ ਭੈ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਫੇਰੀ ॥੩॥
Gir Thar Jal Juaalaa Bhai Raakhiou Raajaa Raam Maaeiaa Faeree ||3||
गिरि तर जल जुआला भै राखिओ राजा रामि माइआ फेरी ॥३॥
Prahlaad was thrown off a mountain, into the water, and into a fire, but the Sovereign Lord God saved him, by changing the laws of nature. ||3||
ਕਾਢਿ ਖੜਗੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਭੈ ਕੋਪਿਓ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਤਾਉ ਜੁ ਤੁਹਿ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
Kaadt Kharrag Kaal Bhai Kopiou Mohi Bathaao J Thuhi Raakhai ||
काढि खड़गु कालु भै कोपिओ मोहि बताउ जु तुहि राखै ॥
Harnaakhash thundered with rage and threatened to kill Prahlaad. ""Tell me, who can save you?""
ਪੀਤ ਪੀਤਾਂਬਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਧਣੀ ਥੰਭ ਮਾਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਖੈ ॥੪॥
Peeth Peethaanbar Thribhavan Dhhanee Thhanbh Maahi Har Bhaakhai ||4||
पीत पीतांबर त्रिभवण धणी थ्मभ माहि हरि भाखै ॥४॥
Prahlaad answered, ""The Lord, the Master of the three worlds, is contained even in this pillar to which I am tied.""||4||
ਹਰਨਾਖਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਖਹ ਬਿਦਾਰਿਓ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਕੀਏ ਸਨਾਥਾ ॥
Haranaakhas Jin Nakheh Bidhaariou Sur Nar Keeeae Sanaathhaa ||
हरनाखसु जिनि नखह बिदारिओ सुरि नर कीए सनाथा ॥
The Lord who tore Harnaakhash apart with His nails proclaimed Himself the Lord of gods and men.
ਕਹਿ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਹਮ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹ ਰਾਮੁ ਅਭੈ ਪਦ ਦਾਤਾ ॥੫॥੩॥੯॥
Kehi Naamadhaeo Ham Narehar Dhhiaaveh Raam Abhai Padh Dhaathaa ||5||3||9||
कहि नामदेउ हम नरहरि धिआवह रामु अभै पद दाता ॥५॥३॥९॥
Says Naam Dayv, I meditate on the Lord, the Man-lion, the Giver of fearless dignity. ||5||3||9||
ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ਪੂਛੈ ਸੁਨੁ ਬੇ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
Sulathaan Pooshhai Sun Bae Naamaa ||
सुलतानु पूछै सुनु बे नामा ॥
The Sultan said, ""Listen, Naam Dayv:
ਦੇਖਉ ਰਾਮ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ਕਾਮਾ ॥੧॥
Dhaekho Raam Thumhaarae Kaamaa ||1||
देखउ राम तुम्हारे कामा ॥१॥
Let me see the actions of your Lord.""||1||
ਨਾਮਾ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੇ ਬਾਧਿਲਾ ॥
Naamaa Sulathaanae Baadhhilaa ||
नामा सुलताने बाधिला ॥
The Sultan arrested Naam Dayv,
ਦੇਖਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਬੀਠੁਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dhaekho Thaeraa Har Beethulaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
देखउ तेरा हरि बीठुला ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
And said, ""Let me see your Beloved Lord.""||1||Pause||
ਬਿਸਮਿਲਿ ਗਊ ਦੇਹੁ ਜੀਵਾਇ ॥
Bisamil Goo Dhaehu Jeevaae ||
बिसमिलि गऊ देहु जीवाइ ॥
"Bring this dead cow back to life.
ਨਾਤਰੁ ਗਰਦਨਿ ਮਾਰਉ ਠਾਂਇ ॥੨॥
Naathar Garadhan Maaro Thaane ||2||
नातरु गरदनि मारउ ठांइ ॥२॥
Otherwise, I shall cut off your head here and now.""||2||
ਬਾਦਿਸਾਹ ਐਸੀ ਕਿਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
Baadhisaah Aisee Kio Hoe ||
बादिसाह ऐसी किउ होइ ॥
Naam Dayv answered, ""O king, how can this happen?
ਬਿਸਮਿਲਿ ਕੀਆ ਨ ਜੀਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥
Bisamil Keeaa N Jeevai Koe ||3||
बिसमिलि कीआ न जीवै कोइ ॥३॥
No one can bring the dead back to life. ||3||
ਮੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Maeraa Keeaa Kashhoo N Hoe ||
मेरा कीआ कछू न होइ ॥
I cannot do anything by my own actions.
ਕਰਿ ਹੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਹੋਇ ਹੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥
Kar Hai Raam Hoe Hai Soe ||4||
करि है रामु होइ है सोइ ॥४॥
Whatever the Lord does, that alone happens.""||4||
ਬਾਦਿਸਾਹੁ ਚੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਓ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ॥
Baadhisaahu Charrihou Ahankaar ||
बादिसाहु चड़्हिओ अहंकारि ॥
The arrogant king was enraged at this reply.
ਗਜ ਹਸਤੀ ਦੀਨੋ ਚਮਕਾਰਿ ॥੫॥
Gaj Hasathee Dheeno Chamakaar ||5||
गज हसती दीनो चमकारि ॥५॥
He incited an elephant to attack. ||5||
ਰੁਦਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਕੀ ਮਾਇ ॥
Rudhan Karai Naamae Kee Maae ||
रुदनु करै नामे की माइ ॥
Naam Dayv's mother began to cry,
ਛੋਡਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਕੀ ਨ ਭਜਹਿ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥੬॥
Shhodd Raam Kee N Bhajehi Khudhaae ||6||
छोडि रामु की न भजहि खुदाइ ॥६॥
And she said, "Why don't you abandon your Lord Raam, and worship his Lord Allah?"||6||
ਨ ਹਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੂੰਗੜਾ ਨ ਤੂ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥
N Ho Thaeraa Poongarraa N Thoo Maeree Maae ||
न हउ तेरा पूंगड़ा न तू मेरी माइ ॥
Naam Dayv answered, ""I am not your son, and you are not my mother.
ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪੜੈ ਤਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੭॥
Pindd Parrai Tho Har Gun Gaae ||7||
पिंडु पड़ै तउ हरि गुन गाइ ॥७॥
Even if my body dies, I will still sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.""||7||
ਕਰੈ ਗਜਿੰਦੁ ਸੁੰਡ ਕੀ ਚੋਟ ॥
Karai Gajindh Sundd Kee Chott ||
करै गजिंदु सुंड की चोट ॥
The elephant attacked him with his trunk,
ਨਾਮਾ ਉਬਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਓਟ ॥੮॥
Naamaa Oubarai Har Kee Outt ||8||
नामा उबरै हरि की ओट ॥८॥
But Naam Dayv was saved, protected by the Lord. ||8||
ਕਾਜੀ ਮੁਲਾਂ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਲਾਮੁ ॥
Kaajee Mulaan Karehi Salaam ||
काजी मुलां करहि सलामु ॥
The king said, ""The Qazis and the Mullahs bow down to me,
ਇਨਿ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਲਿਆ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੯॥
Ein Hindhoo Maeraa Maliaa Maan ||9||
इनि हिंदू मेरा मलिआ मानु ॥९॥
But this Hindu has trampled my honor.""||9||
ਬਾਦਿਸਾਹ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਨੇਹੁ ॥
Baadhisaah Baenathee Sunaehu ||
बादिसाह बेनती सुनेहु ॥
The people pleaded with the king, ""Hear our prayer, O king.
