जामि न भीजै साच नाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
If you are not drenched with the True Name. ||1||Pause||
ਦਸ ਅਠ ਲੀਖੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
Dhas Ath Leekhae Hovehi Paas ||
दस अठ लीखे होवहि पासि ॥
One may have the eighteen Puraanas written in his own hand;
ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਮੁਖਾਗਰ ਪਾਠਿ ॥
Chaarae Baedh Mukhaagar Paath ||
चारे बेद मुखागर पाठि ॥
He may recite the four Vedas by heart,
ਪੁਰਬੀ ਨਾਵੈ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
Purabee Naavai Varanaan Kee Dhaath ||
पुरबी नावै वरनां की दाति ॥
And take ritual baths at holy festivals and give charitable donations;
ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੨॥
Varath Naem Karae Dhin Raath ||2||
वरत नेम करे दिन राति ॥२॥
He may observe the ritual fasts, and perform religious ceremonies day and night. ||2||
ਕਾਜੀ ਮੁਲਾਂ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸੇਖ ॥
Kaajee Mulaan Hovehi Saekh ||
काजी मुलां होवहि सेख ॥
He may be a Qazi, a Mullah or a Shaykh,
ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਭਗਵੇ ਭੇਖ ॥
Jogee Jangam Bhagavae Bhaekh ||
जोगी जंगम भगवे भेख ॥
A Yogi or a wandering hermit wearing saffron-colored robes;
ਕੋ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਕਰਮਾ ਕੀ ਸੰਧਿ ॥
Ko Girehee Karamaa Kee Sandhh ||
को गिरही करमा की संधि ॥
He may be a householder, working at his job;
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭ ਖੜੀਅਸਿ ਬੰਧਿ ॥੩॥
Bin Boojhae Sabh Kharreeas Bandhh ||3||
बिनु बूझे सभ खड़ीअसि बंधि ॥३॥
But without understanding the essence of devotional worship, all people are eventually bound and gagged, and driven along by the Messenger of Death. ||3||
ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਲਿਖੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥
Jaethae Jeea Likhee Sir Kaar ||
जेते जीअ लिखी सिरि कार ॥
Each person's karma is written on his forehead.
ਕਰਣੀ ਉਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਗਿ ਸਾਰ ॥
Karanee Oupar Hovag Saar ||
करणी उपरि होवगि सार ॥
According to their deeds, they shall be judged.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥
Hukam Karehi Moorakh Gaavaar ||
हुकमु करहि मूरख गावार ॥
Only the foolish and the ignorant issue commands.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥੪॥੩॥

नानक साचे के सिफति भंडार ॥४॥३॥
O Nanak, the treasure of praise belongs to the True Lord alone. ||4||3||

ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਉਤਾਰਿ ਦਿਗੰਬਰੁ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
Basathr Outhaar Dhiganbar Hog ||
बसत्र उतारि दिग्मबरु होगु ॥
A person may take off his clothes and be naked.
ਜਟਾਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
Jattaadhhaar Kiaa Kamaavai Jog ||
जटाधारि किआ कमावै जोगु ॥
What Yoga does he practice by having matted and tangled hair?
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰ ॥
Man Niramal Nehee Dhasavai Dhuaar ||
मनु निरमलु नही दसवै दुआर ॥
If the mind is not pure, what use is it to hold the breath at the Tenth Gate?
ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਵੈ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
Bhram Bhram Aavai Moorrhaa Vaaro Vaar ||1||
भ्रमि भ्रमि आवै मूड़्हा वारो वार ॥१॥
The fool wanders and wanders, entering the cycle of reincarnation again and again. ||1||
ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਨਾ ॥
Eaek Dhhiaavahu Moorrh Manaa ||
एकु धिआवहु मूड़्ह मना ॥
Meditate on the One Lord, O my foolish mind,
ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਇਕ ਖਿਨਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Paar Outhar Jaahi Eik Khinaan ||1|| Rehaao ||
पारि उतरि जाहि इक खिनां ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
And you shall cross over to the other side in an instant. ||1||Pause||
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਖਿਆਣ ॥
Simrith Saasathr Karehi Vakhiaan ||
सिम्रिति सासत्र करहि वखिआण ॥
Some recite and expound on the Simritees and the Shaastras;
ਨਾਦੀ ਬੇਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਹਿ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥
Naadhee Baedhee Parrhehi Puraan ||
नादी बेदी पड़्हहि पुराण ॥
Some sing the Vedas and read the Puraanas;
ਪਾਖੰਡ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਮਨਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
Paakhandd Dhrisatt Man Kapatt Kamaahi ||
पाखंड द्रिसटि मनि कपटु कमाहि ॥
But they practice hypocrisy and deception with their eyes and minds.
ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਰਮਈਆ ਨੇੜਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
Thin Kai Rameeaa Naerr Naahi ||2||
तिन कै रमईआ नेड़ि नाहि ॥२॥
The Lord does not even come near them. ||2||
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jae Ko Aisaa Sanjamee Hoe ||
जे को ऐसा संजमी होइ ॥
Even if someone practices such self-discipline,
ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਵਿਸੇਖ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
Kiraaa Visaekh Poojaa Karaee ||
क्रिआ विसेख पूजा करेइ ॥
Compassion and devotional worship
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Anthar Lobh Man Bikhiaa Maahi ||
अंतरि लोभु मनु बिखिआ माहि ॥
- if he is filled with greed, and his mind is engrossed in corruption,
ਓਇ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
Oue Niranjan Kaisae Paahi ||3||
ओइ निरंजनु कैसे पाहि ॥३॥
How can he find the Immaculate Lord? ||3||
ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥
Keethaa Hoaa Karae Kiaa Hoe ||
कीता होआ करे किआ होइ ॥
What can the created being do?
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਚਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥
Jis No Aap Chalaaeae Soe ||
जिस नो आपि चलाए सोइ ॥
The Lord Himself moves him.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
Nadhar Karae Thaan Bharam Chukaaeae ||
नदरि करे तां भरमु चुकाए ॥
If the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, then his doubts are dispelled.
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਚਾ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥
Hukamai Boojhai Thaan Saachaa Paaeae ||4||
हुकमै बूझै तां साचा पाए ॥४॥
If the mortal realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he obtains the True Lord. ||4||
ਜਿਸੁ ਜੀਉ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jis Jeeo Anthar Mailaa Hoe ||
जिसु जीउ अंतरु मैला होइ ॥
If someone's soul is polluted within,
ਤੀਰਥ ਭਵੈ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਲੋਇ ॥
Theerathh Bhavai Dhisanthar Loe ||
तीरथ भवै दिसंतर लोइ ॥
What is the use of his traveling to sacred shrines of pilgrimage all over the world?
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗ ॥
Naanak Mileeai Sathigur Sang ||
नानक मिलीऐ सतिगुर संग ॥
O Nanak, when one joins the Society of the True Guru,
ਤਉ ਭਵਜਲ ਕੇ ਤੂਟਸਿ ਬੰਧ ॥੫॥੪॥
Tho Bhavajal Kae Thoottas Bandhh ||5||4||
तउ भवजल के तूटसि बंध ॥५॥४॥
Then the bonds of the terrifying world-ocean are broken. ||5||4||

All the worlds have been fascinated and enchanted by Your Maya, O Lord.
ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਰਬ ਤੋਹ ॥
Mai Avar N Dheesai Sarab Thoh ||
मै अवरु न दीसै सरब तोह ॥
I do not see any other at all - You are everywhere.
ਤੂ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਾਥਾ ਦੇਵਾ ਦੇਵ ॥
Thoo Sur Naathhaa Dhaevaa Dhaev ||
तू सुरि नाथा देवा देव ॥
You are the Master of Yogis, the Divinity of the divine.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥

Serving at the Guru's Feet, the Name of the Lord is received. ||1||

Guramukh Raam Naam Gun Gaaeae Thoo Aparanpar Sarab Paal ||1|| Rehaao ||
गुरमुखि राम नाम गुन गाए तू अपर्मपरु सरब पाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
As Gurmukh, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name. You are Infinite, the Cherisher of all. ||1||Pause||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
Bin Saadhh N Paaeeai Har Kaa Sang ||
बिनु साध न पाईऐ हरि का संगु ॥
Without the Holy Saint, association with the Lord is not obtained.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੈਲ ਮਲੀਨ ਅੰਗੁ ॥
Bin Gur Mail Maleen Ang ||
बिनु गुर मैल मलीन अंगु ॥
Without the Guru, one's very fiber is stained with filth.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਸੁਧੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Bin Har Naam N Sudhh Hoe ||
बिनु हरि नाम न सुधु होइ ॥
Without the Lord's Name, one cannot become pure.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
Gur Sabadh Salaahae Saach Soe ||2||
गुर सबदि सलाहे साचु सोइ ॥२॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, sing the Praises of the True Lord. ||2||
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਰਖਨਹਾਰ ॥
Jaa Ko Thoo Raakhehi Rakhanehaar ||
जा कउ तू राखहि रखनहार ॥
O Savior Lord, that person whom You have saved
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਵਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਾਰ ॥
Sathiguroo Milaavehi Karehi Saar ||
सतिगुरू मिलावहि करहि सार ॥
- You lead him to meet the True Guru, and so take care of him.
ਬਿਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਪਰਹਰਾਇ ॥
Bikh Houmai Mamathaa Pareharaae ||
बिखु हउमै ममता परहराइ ॥
You take away his poisonous egotism and attachment.
ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੩॥
Sabh Dhookh Binaasae Raam Raae ||3||
सभि दूख बिनासे राम राइ ॥३॥
You dispel all his sufferings, O Sovereign Lord God. ||3||
ਊਤਮ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਸਰੀਰ ॥
Ootham Gath Mith Har Gun Sareer ||
ऊतम गति मिति हरि गुन सरीर ॥
His state and condition are sublime; the Lord's Glorious Virtues permeate his body.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਹੀਰ ॥
Guramath Pragattae Raam Naam Heer ||
गुरमति प्रगटे राम नाम हीर ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, the diamond of the Lord's Name is revealed.
ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਜਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ॥
Liv Laagee Naam Thaj Dhoojaa Bhaao ||
लिव लागी नामि तजि दूजा भाउ ॥
He is lovingly attuned to the Naam; he is rid of the love of duality.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੪॥੫॥
Jan Naanak Har Gur Gur Milaao ||4||5||
जन नानक हरि गुरु गुर मिलाउ ॥४॥५॥
O Lord, let servant Nanak meet the Guru. ||4||5||

My Husband Lord is Incomparably Beautiful; He is always with me.

Ouhu Alakh N Lakheeai Kehahu Kaae ||
ओहु अलखु न लखीऐ कहहु काइ ॥
