सलोक मः ३ ॥
Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾ ਜੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
Breham Bindhehi Thae Braahamanaa Jae Chalehi Sathigur Bhaae ||
ब्रहमु बिंदहि ते ब्राहमणा जे चलहि सतिगुर भाइ ॥
He alone knows God, and he alone is a Brahmin, who walks in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Jin Kai Hiradhai Har Vasai Houmai Rog Gavaae ||
जिन कै हिरदै हरि वसै हउमै रोगु गवाइ ॥
One whose heart is filled with the Lord, is freed of egotism and disease.
ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਹਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
Gun Ravehi Gun Sangrehehi Jothee Joth Milaae ||
गुण रवहि गुण संग्रहहि जोती जोति मिलाइ ॥
He chants the Lord's Praises, gathers virtue, and his light merges into the Light.
ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
Eis Jug Mehi Viralae Braahaman Breham Bindhehi Chith Laae ||
इसु जुग महि विरले ब्राहमण ब्रहमु बिंदहि चितु लाइ ॥
How rare are those Brahmins who, in this age, come to know God, by lovingly focusing their consciousness on Him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਸੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
Naanak Jinh Ko Nadhar Karae Har Sachaa Sae Naam Rehae Liv Laae ||1||
नानक जिन्ह कउ नदरि करे हरि सचा से नामि रहे लिव लाइ ॥१॥
O Nanak, those who are blessed by the Lord's Glance of Grace, remain lovingly attuned to the Name of the True Lord. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਕੀਤੀਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਭਾਉ ॥
Sathigur Kee Saev N Keetheeaa Sabadh N Lago Bhaao ||
सतिगुर की सेव न कीतीआ सबदि न लगो भाउ ॥
One who does not serve the True Guru, and who does not love the Word of the Shabad,
ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਅਤਿ ਦੀਰਘੁ ਬਹੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
Houmai Rog Kamaavanaa Ath Dheeragh Bahu Suaao ||
हउमै रोगु कमावणा अति दीरघु बहु सुआउ ॥
Earns the very painful disease of egotism; he is so very selfish.
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
Manehath Karam Kamaavanae Fir Fir Jonee Paae ||
मनहठि करम कमावणे फिरि फिरि जोनी पाइ ॥
Acting stubborn-mindedly, he is reincarnated over and over again.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
Guramukh Janam Safal Hai Jis No Aapae Leae Milaae ||
गुरमुखि जनमु सफलु है जिस नो आपे लए मिलाइ ॥
The birth of the Gurmukh is fruitful and auspicious. The Lord unites him with Himself.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Nadharee Nadhar Karae Thaa Naam Dhhan Palai Paae ||2||
नानक नदरी नदरि करे ता नाम धनु पलै पाइ ॥२॥
O Nanak, when the Merciful Lord grants His Mercy, one obtains the wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||

ਸਭ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
Sabh Vaddiaaeeaa Har Naam Vich Har Guramukh Dhhiaaeeai ||
सभ वडिआईआ हरि नाम विचि हरि गुरमुखि धिआईऐ ॥
All glorious greatness is in the Name of the Lord; as Gurmukh, meditate on the Lord.
ਜਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਸਾਈ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈਐ ॥
J Vasath Mangeeai Saaee Paaeeai Jae Naam Chith Laaeeai ||
जि वसतु मंगीऐ साई पाईऐ जे नामि चितु लाईऐ ॥
One obtains all that he asks for, if he keeps his consciousness focused on the Lord.
ਗੁਹਜ ਗਲ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਕੀਚੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸਿ ਤਾ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Guhaj Gal Jeea Kee Keechai Sathiguroo Paas Thaa Sarab Sukh Paaeeai ||
गुहज गल जीअ की कीचै सतिगुरू पासि ता सरब सुखु पाईऐ ॥
If he tells the secrets of his soul to the True Guru, then he finds absolute peace.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਦੇਇ ਸਭ ਭੁਖ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
Gur Pooraa Har Oupadhaes Dhaee Sabh Bhukh Lehi Jaaeeai ||
गुरु पूरा हरि उपदेसु देइ सभ भुख लहि जाईऐ ॥
When the Perfect Guru bestows the Lord's Teachings, then all hunger departs.
ਜਿਸੁ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
Jis Poorab Hovai Likhiaa So Har Gun Gaaeeai ||3||
जिसु पूरबि होवै लिखिआ सो हरि गुण गाईऐ ॥३॥
One who is blessed with such pre-ordained destiny, sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||

Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਖਾਲੀ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
Sathigur Thae Khaalee Ko Nehee Maerai Prabh Mael Milaaeae ||
सतिगुर ते खाली को नही मेरै प्रभि मेलि मिलाए ॥
No one goes away empty-handed from the True Guru; He unites me in Union with my God.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਇਛੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Sathigur Kaa Dharasan Safal Hai Jaehaa Ko Eishhae Thaehaa Fal Paaeae ||
सतिगुर का दरसनु सफलु है जेहा को इछे तेहा फलु पाए ॥
Fruitful is the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the True Guru; through it, one obtains whatever fruitful rewards he desires.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Anmrith Hai Sabh Thrisanaa Bhukh Gavaaeae ||
गुर का सबदु अम्रितु है सभ त्रिसना भुख गवाए ॥
The Word of the Guru's Shabad is Ambrosial Nectar. It banishes all hunger and thirst.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਚੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
Har Ras Pee Santhokh Hoaa Sach Vasiaa Man Aaeae ||
हरि रसु पी संतोखु होआ सचु वसिआ मनि आए ॥
Drinking in the sublime essence of the Lord brings contentment; the True Lord comes to dwell in the mind.
ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਵਜਾਏ ॥
Sach Dhhiaae Amaraa Padh Paaeiaa Anehadh Sabadh Vajaaeae ||
सचु धिआइ अमरा पदु पाइआ अनहद सबद वजाए ॥
Meditating on the True Lord, the status of immortality is obtained; the Unstruck Word of the Shabad vibrates and resounds.
ਸਚੋ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
Sacho Dheh Dhis Pasariaa Gur Kai Sehaj Subhaaeae ||
सचो दह दिसि पसरिआ गुर कै सहजि सुभाए ॥
The True Lord is pervading in the ten directions; through the Guru, this is intuitively known.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਛਪਹਿ ਨ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੇ ਛਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
Naanak Jin Andhar Sach Hai Sae Jan Shhapehi N Kisai Dhae Shhapaaeae ||1||
नानक जिन अंदरि सचु है से जन छपहि न किसै दे छपाए ॥१॥
O Nanak, those humble beings who have the Truth deep within, are never hidden, even if others try to hide them. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
Gur Saevaa Thae Har Paaeeai Jaa Ko Nadhar Karaee ||
गुर सेवा ते हरि पाईऐ जा कउ नदरि करेइ ॥
Serving the Guru, one finds the Lord, when the Lord blesses him with His Glance of Grace.
ਮਾਨਸ ਤੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਭਏ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
Maanas Thae Dhaevathae Bheae Sachee Bhagath Jis Dhaee ||
मानस ते देवते भए सची भगति जिसु देइ ॥
Human beings become angels, when the Lord blesses them with true devotional worship.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਚੇਇ ॥
Houmai Maar Milaaeian Gur Kai Sabadh Suchaee ||
हउमै मारि मिलाइअनु गुर कै सबदि सुचेइ ॥
Conquering egotism, they are blended with the Lord; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they are purified.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Sehajae Mil Rehae Naam Vaddiaaee Dhaee ||2||
नानक सहजे मिलि रहे नामु वडिआई देइ ॥२॥
O Nanak, they remain merged with the Lord; they are blessed with the glorious greatness of the Naam. ||2||

Gur Sathigur Vich Naavai Kee Vaddee Vaddiaaee Har Karathai Aap Vadhhaaee ||
गुर सतिगुर विचि नावै की वडी वडिआई हरि करतै आपि वधाई ॥
Within the Guru, the True Guru, is the glorious greatness of the Name. The Creator Lord Himself has magnified it.
ਸੇਵਕ ਸਿਖ ਸਭਿ ਵੇਖਿ ਵੇਖਿ ਜੀਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਓਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਭਾਈ ॥
Saevak Sikh Sabh Vaekh Vaekh Jeevanih Ounhaa Andhar Hiradhai Bhaaee ||
सेवक सिख सभि वेखि वेखि जीवन्हि ओन्हा अंदरि हिरदै भाई ॥
All His servants and Sikhs live by gazing, gazing upon it. It is pleasing to their hearts deep within.
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੁਸਟ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੇਖਿ ਨ ਸਕਨਿ ਓਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਭਲਾ ਨ ਸੁਖਾਈ ॥
Nindhak Dhusatt Vaddiaaee Vaekh N Sakan Ounhaa Paraaeiaa Bhalaa N Sukhaaee ||
निंदक दुसट वडिआई वेखि न सकनि ओन्हा पराइआ भला न सुखाई ॥
The slanderers and evil-doers cannot see this glorious greatness; they do not appreciate the goodness of others.
ਕਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਝਖ ਮਾਰੀ ਜਾ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ॥
Kiaa Hovai Kis Hee Kee Jhakh Maaree Jaa Sachae Sio Ban Aaee ||
किआ होवै किस ही की झख मारी जा सचे सिउ बणि आई ॥
What can be achieved by anyone babbling? The Guru is in love with the True Lord.
ਜਿ ਗਲ ਕਰਤੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਈ ਸਭ ਝਖਿ ਝਖਿ ਮਰੈ ਲੋਕਾਈ ॥੪॥
J Gal Karathae Bhaavai Saa Nith Nith Charrai Savaaee Sabh Jhakh Jhakh Marai Lokaaee ||4||
जि गल करते भावै सा नित नित चड़ै सवाई सभ झखि झखि मरै लोकाई ॥४॥
That which is pleasing to the Creator Lord, increases day by day, while all the people babble uselessly. ||4||

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਏਹ ਆਸਾ ਦੂਜੇ ਭਾਵ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
Dhhrig Eaeh Aasaa Dhoojae Bhaav Kee Jo Mohi Maaeiaa Chith Laaeae ||
ध्रिगु एह आसा दूजे भाव की जो मोहि माइआ चितु लाए ॥
Cursed are the hopes in the love of duality; they tie the consciousness to love and attachment to Maya.
ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਰਿ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Har Sukh Palhar Thiaagiaa Naam Visaar Dhukh Paaeae ||
हरि सुखु पल्हरि तिआगिआ नामु विसारि दुखु पाए ॥
One who forsakes the peace of the Lord in exchange for straw, and forgets the Naam, suffers in pain.
