ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
Manamukh Agiaanee Andhhulae Janam Marehi Fir Aavai Jaaeae ||
मनमुख अगिआनी अंधुले जनमि मरहि फिरि आवै जाए ॥
The ignorant self-willed manmukhs are blind. They are born, only to die again, and continue coming and going.
ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਧਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਨੀ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਏ ॥
Kaaraj Sidhh N Hovanee Anth Gaeiaa Pashhuthaaeae ||
कारज सिधि न होवनी अंति गइआ पछुताए ॥
Their affairs are not resolved, and in the end, they depart, regretting and repenting.
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
Jis Karam Hovai This Sathigur Milai So Har Har Naam Dhhiaaeae ||
जिसु करमु होवै तिसु सतिगुरु मिलै सो हरि हरि नामु धिआए ॥
One who is blessed with the Lord's Grace, meets the True Guru; he alone meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥
Naam Rathae Jan Sadhaa Sukh Paaeinih Jan Naanak Thin Bal Jaaeae ||1||
नामि रते जन सदा सुखु पाइन्हि जन नानक तिन बलि जाए ॥१॥
Imbued with the Naam, the humble servants of the Lord find a lasting peace; servant Nanak is a sacrifice to them. ||1||

Aasaa Manasaa Jag Mohanee Jin Mohiaa Sansaar ||
आसा मनसा जगि मोहणी जिनि मोहिआ संसारु ॥
Hope and desire entice the world; they entice the whole universe.
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਚੀਰੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੈ ਜੇਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
Sabh Ko Jam Kae Cheerae Vich Hai Jaethaa Sabh Aakaar ||
सभु को जम के चीरे विचि है जेता सभु आकारु ॥
Everyone, and all that has been created, is under the domination of Death.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੀ ਜਮੁ ਲਗਦਾ ਸੋ ਉਬਰੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੈ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
Hukamee Hee Jam Lagadhaa So Oubarai Jis Bakhasai Karathaar ||
हुकमी ही जमु लगदा सो उबरै जिसु बखसै करतारु ॥
By the Hukam of the Lord's Command, Death seizes the mortal; he alone is saved, whom the Creator Lord forgives.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤਾਂ ਤਰੈ ਜਾ ਛੋਡੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
Naanak Gur Parasaadhee Eaehu Man Thaan Tharai Jaa Shhoddai Ahankaar ||
नानक गुर परसादी एहु मनु तां तरै जा छोडै अहंकारु ॥
O Nanak, by Guru's Grace, this mortal swims across, if he abandons his ego.

जिथै जाईऐ जगत महि तिथै हरि साई ॥
Wherever I go in this world, I see the Lord there.
ਅਗੈ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਿਆਈ ॥
Agai Sabh Aapae Varathadhaa Har Sachaa Niaaee ||
अगै सभु आपे वरतदा हरि सचा निआई ॥
In the world hereafter as well, the Lord, the True Judge Himself, is pervading and permeating everywhere.
ਕੂੜਿਆਰਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਹ ਫਿਟਕੀਅਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Koorriaaraa Kae Muh Fittakeeahi Sach Bhagath Vaddiaaee ||
कूड़िआरा के मुह फिटकीअहि सचु भगति वडिआई ॥
The faces of the false are cursed, while the true devotees are blessed with glorious greatness.
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਛਾਈ ॥
Sach Saahib Sachaa Niaao Hai Sir Nindhak Shhaaee ||
सचु साहिबु सचा निआउ है सिरि निंदक छाई ॥
True is the Lord and Master, and true is His justice. The heads of the slanderers are covered with ashes.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥

जन नानक सचु अराधिआ गुरमुखि सुखु पाई ॥५॥
Servant Nanak worships the True Lord in adoration; as Gurmukh, he finds peace. ||5||

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
Poorai Bhaag Sathigur Paaeeai Jae Har Prabh Bakhas Karaee ||
पूरै भागि सतिगुरु पाईऐ जे हरि प्रभु बखस करेइ ॥
By perfect destiny, one finds the True Guru, if the Lord God grants forgiveness.
ਓਪਾਵਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਓਪਾਉ ਹੈ ਨਾਉ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Oupaavaa Sir Oupaao Hai Naao Paraapath Hoe ||
ओपावा सिरि ओपाउ है नाउ परापति होइ ॥
Of all efforts, the best effort is to attain the Lord's Name.
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Andhar Seethal Saanth Hai Hiradhai Sadhaa Sukh Hoe ||
अंदरु सीतलु सांति है हिरदै सदा सुखु होइ ॥
It brings a cooling, soothing tranquility deep within the heart, and eternal peace.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੈਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
Anmrith Khaanaa Painhanaa Naanak Naae Vaddiaaee Hoe ||1||
अम्रितु खाणा पैन्हणा नानक नाइ वडिआई होइ ॥१॥
Then, one eats and wears the Ambrosial Nectar; O Nanak, through the Name, comes glorious greatness. ||1||

Eae Man Gur Kee Sikh Sun Paaeihi Gunee Nidhhaan ||
ए मन गुर की सिख सुणि पाइहि गुणी निधानु ॥
O mind,listening to the Guru's Teachings,you shall obtain the treasure of virtue.
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
Sukhadhaathaa Thaerai Man Vasai Houmai Jaae Abhimaan ||
सुखदाता तेरै मनि वसै हउमै जाइ अभिमानु ॥
The Giver of peace shall dwell in your mind; you shall be rid of egotism and pride.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
Naanak Nadharee Paaeeai Anmrith Gunee Nidhhaan ||2||
नानक नदरी पाईऐ अम्रितु गुणी निधानु ॥२॥
O Nanak, by His Grace, one is blessed with the Ambrosial Nectar of the treasure of virtue. ||2||

Jithanae Paathisaah Saah Raajae Khaan Oumaraav Sikadhaar Hehi Thithanae Sabh Har Kae Keeeae ||
जितने पातिसाह साह राजे खान उमराव सिकदार हहि तितने सभि हरि के कीए ॥
The kings, emperors, rulers, lords, nobles and chiefs, are all created by the Lord.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਓਇ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਅਰਥੀਏ ॥
Jo Kishh Har Karaavai S Oue Karehi Sabh Har Kae Arathheeeae ||
जो किछु हरि करावै सु ओइ करहि सभि हरि के अरथीए ॥
Whatever the Lord causes them to do, they do; they are all beggars, dependent on the Lord.
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਵਲਿ ਹੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਭਿ ਵਰਨ ਚਾਰੇ ਖਾਣੀ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਗੋਲੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਗੈ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣ ਕਉ ਦੀਏ ॥
So Aisaa Har Sabhanaa Kaa Prabh Sathigur Kai Val Hai Thin Sabh Varan Chaarae Khaanee Sabh Srisatt Golae Kar Sathigur Agai Kaar Kamaavan Ko Dheeeae ||
सो ऐसा हरि सभना का प्रभु सतिगुर कै वलि है तिनि सभि वरन चारे खाणी सभ स्रिसटि गोले करि सतिगुर अगै कार कमावण कउ दीए ॥
Such is God, the Lord of all; He is on the True Guru's side. All castes and social classes, the four sources of creation, and the whole universe are slaves of the True Guru; God makes them work for Him.
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੀ ਐਸੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰੀ ਦੁਸਮਨ ਦੂਤ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੀਏ ॥
Har Saevae Kee Aisee Vaddiaaee Dhaekhahu Har Santhahu Jin Vichahu Kaaeiaa Nagaree Dhusaman Dhooth Sabh Maar Kadteeeae ||
हरि सेवे की ऐसी वडिआई देखहु हरि संतहु जिनि विचहु काइआ नगरी दुसमन दूत सभि मारि कढीए ॥
See the glorious greatness of serving the Lord, O Saints of the Lord; He has conquered and driven all the enemies and evil-doers out of the body-village.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਰਖਿ ਲੀਏ ॥੬॥
Har Har Kirapaal Hoaa Bhagath Janaa Oupar Har Aapanee Kirapaa Kar Har Aap Rakh Leeeae ||6||
हरि हरि किरपालु होआ भगत जना उपरि हरि आपणी किरपा करि हरि आपि रखि लीए ॥६॥
The Lord, Har, Har, is Merciful to His humble devotees; granting His Grace, the Lord Himself protects and preserves them. ||6||

Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
Andhar Kapatt Sadhaa Dhukh Hai Manamukh Dhhiaan N Laagai ||
अंदरि कपटु सदा दुखु है मनमुख धिआनु न लागै ॥
Fraud and hypocrisy within bring constant pain; the self-willed manmukh does not practice meditation.
ਦੁਖ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥
Dhukh Vich Kaar Kamaavanee Dhukh Varathai Dhukh Aagai ||
दुख विचि कार कमावणी दुखु वरतै दुखु आगै ॥
Suffering in pain, he does his deeds; he is immersed in pain, and he shall suffer in pain hereafter.
ਕਰਮੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
Karamee Sathigur Bhaetteeai Thaa Sach Naam Liv Laagai ||
करमी सतिगुरु भेटीऐ ता सचि नामि लिव लागै ॥
By his karma, he meets the True Guru, and then, he is lovingly attuned to the True Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥
Naanak Sehajae Sukh Hoe Andharahu Bhram Bho Bhaagai ||1||
नानक सहजे सुखु होइ अंदरहु भ्रमु भउ भागै ॥१॥
O Nanak, he is naturally at peace; doubt and fear run away and leave him. ||1||

Guramukh Sadhaa Har Rang Hai Har Kaa Naao Man Bhaaeiaa ||
गुरमुखि सदा हरि रंगु है हरि का नाउ मनि भाइआ ॥
The Gurmukh is in love with the Lord forever. The Name of the Lord is pleasing to his mind.
