ਖਟੁ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਮੂਰਖੈ ਸੁਨਾਇਆ ॥
Khatt Saasathr Moorakhai Sunaaeiaa ||
खटु सासत्र मूरखै सुनाइआ ॥
The six Shaastras may be read to a fool,
ਜੈਸੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਪਵਨੁ ਝੁਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
Jaisae Dheh Dhis Pavan Jhulaaeiaa ||3||
जैसे दह दिस पवनु झुलाइआ ॥३॥
But it is like the wind blowing in the ten directions. ||3||
ਬਿਨੁ ਕਣ ਖਲਹਾਨੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਗਾਹਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Bin Kan Khalehaan Jaisae Gaahan Paaeiaa ||
बिनु कण खलहानु जैसे गाहन पाइआ ॥
It is like threshing a crop without any corn - nothing is gained.
ਤਿਉ ਸਾਕਤ ਤੇ ਕੋ ਨ ਬਰਾਸਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
Thio Saakath Thae Ko N Baraasaaeiaa ||4||
तिउ साकत ते को न बरासाइआ ॥४॥
In the same way, no benefit comes from the faithless cynic. ||4||
ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਕੋ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Thith Hee Laagaa Jith Ko Laaeiaa ||
तित ही लागा जितु को लाइआ ॥
As the Lord attaches them, so are all attached.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥੫॥੫॥
Kahu Naanak Prabh Banath Banaaeiaa ||5||5||
कहु नानक प्रभि बणत बणाइआ ॥५॥५॥
Says Nanak, God has formed such a form. ||5||5||

जीउ प्राण जिनि रचिओ सरीर ॥
He created the soul, the breath of life and the body.
ਜਿਨਹਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਪੀਰ ॥੧॥
Jinehi Oupaaeae This Ko Peer ||1||
जिनहि उपाए तिस कउ पीर ॥१॥
He created all beings, and knows their pains. ||1||
ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਜੀਅ ਕੈ ਕਾਮ ॥
Gur Gobindh Jeea Kai Kaam ||
गुरु गोबिंदु जीअ कै काम ॥
The Guru, the Lord of the Universe, is the Helper of the soul.
ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸਦ ਛਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Halath Palath Jaa Kee Sadh Shhaam ||1|| Rehaao ||
हलति पलति जा की सद छाम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Here and herafter, He always provides shade. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
Prabh Aaraadhhan Niramal Reeth ||
प्रभु आराधन निरमल रीति ॥
Worship and adoration of God is the pure way of life.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੨॥
Saadhhasang Binasee Bipareeth ||2||
साधसंगि बिनसी बिपरीति ॥२॥
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the love of duality vanishes. ||2||
ਮੀਤ ਹੀਤ ਧਨੁ ਨਹ ਪਾਰਣਾ ॥
Meeth Heeth Dhhan Neh Paaranaa ||
मीत हीत धनु नह पारणा ॥
Friends, well-wishers and wealth will not support you.
ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਰਾਇਣਾ ॥੩॥
Dhhann Dhhann Maerae Naaraaeinaa ||3||
धंनि धंनि मेरे नाराइणा ॥३॥
Blessed, blessed is my Lord. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Naanak Bolai Anmrith Baanee ||
नानकु बोलै अम्रित बाणी ॥
Nanak utters the Ambrosial Bani of the Lord.
ਏਕ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੬॥
Eaek Binaa Dhoojaa Nehee Jaanee ||4||6||
एक बिना दूजा नही जाणी ॥४॥६॥
Except the One Lord, he does not know any other at all. ||4||6||

The Lord is in front of me, and the Lord is behind me.
ਮਧਿ ਭਾਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸਾਇਣ ॥੧॥
Madhh Bhaag Har Praem Rasaaein ||1||
मधि भागि हरि प्रेम रसाइण ॥१॥
My Beloved Lord, the Source of Nectar, is in the middle as well. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਉਣ ॥
Prabhoo Hamaarai Saasathr Soun ||
प्रभू हमारै सासत्र सउण ॥
God is my Shaastra and my favorable omen.

सूख सहज आनंद ग्रिह भउण ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
In His Home and Mansion, I find peace, poise and bliss. ||1||Pause||
ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਨ ਸੁਣਿ ਜੀਵੇ ॥
Rasanaa Naam Karan Sun Jeevae ||
रसना नामु करन सुणि जीवे ॥
Chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, with my tongue, and hearing it with my ears, I live.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅਮਰ ਥਿਰੁ ਥੀਵੇ ॥੨॥

प्रभु सिमरि सिमरि अमर थिरु थीवे ॥२॥
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on God, I have become eternal, permanent and stable. ||2||
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
Janam Janam Kae Dhookh Nivaarae ||
जनम जनम के दूख निवारे ॥
The pains of countless lifetimes have been erased.
ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਵਜੇ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
Anehadh Sabadh Vajae Dharabaarae ||3||
अनहद सबद वजे दरबारे ॥३॥
The Unstruck Sound-current of the Shabad, the Word of God, vibrates in the Court of the Lord. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਲੀਏ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Prabh Leeeae Milaaeae ||
करि किरपा प्रभि लीए मिलाए ॥
Granting His Grace, God has blended me with Himself.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਆਏ ॥੪॥੭॥

जम मारग कै संगी पांथ ॥१॥
On the Path of Death, It will go with you and help you. ||1||
ਗੰਗਾ ਜਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮ ॥
Gangaa Jal Gur Gobindh Naam ||
गंगा जलु गुर गोबिंद नाम ॥
The Naam, the Name of the Lord of the Universe, is the holy water of the Ganges.
ਜੋ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਪੀਵਤ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jo Simarai This Kee Gath Hovai Peevath Bahurr N Jon Bhramaam ||1|| Rehaao ||
जो सिमरै तिस की गति होवै पीवत बहुड़ि न जोनि भ्रमाम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Whoever meditates on it, is saved; drinking it in, the mortal does not wander in reincarnation again. ||1||Pause||
ਪੂਜਾ ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਇਸਨਾਨ ॥
Poojaa Jaap Thaap Eisanaan ||
पूजा जाप ताप इसनान ॥
It is my worship, meditation, austerity and cleansing bath.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਕਾਮ ॥੨॥
Simarath Naam Bheae Nihakaam ||2||
सिमरत नाम भए निहकाम ॥२॥
Meditating in remembrance on the Naam, I have become free of desire. ||2||
ਰਾਜ ਮਾਲ ਸਾਦਨ ਦਰਬਾਰ ॥
Raaj Maal Saadhan Dharabaar ||
राज माल सादन दरबार ॥
It is my domain and empire, wealth, mansion and court.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਚਾਰ ॥੩॥
Simarath Naam Pooran Aachaar ||3||
सिमरत नाम पूरन आचार ॥३॥
Meditating in remembrance on the Naam brings perfect conduct. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Naanak Dhaas Eihu Keeaa Beechaar ||
नानक दास इहु कीआ बीचारु ॥
Slave Nanak has deliberated, and has come to this conclusion:
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸਭ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੮॥
Bin Har Naam Mithhiaa Sabh Shhaar ||4||8||
बिनु हरि नाम मिथिआ सभ छारु ॥४॥८॥
Without the Lord's Name, everything is false and worthless, like ashes. ||4||8||

ਲੇਪੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੋ ਤਿਲ ਕਾ ਮੂਲਿ ॥

लेपु न लागो तिल का मूलि ॥
The poison had absolutely no harmful effect.
ਦੁਸਟੁ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਮੂਆ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਸੂਲ ॥੧॥
Dhusatt Braahaman Mooaa Hoe Kai Sool ||1||
दुसटु ब्राहमणु मूआ होइ कै सूल ॥१॥
But the wicked Brahmin died in pain. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਰਾਖੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਆਪਿ ॥
Har Jan Raakhae Paarabreham Aap ||
हरि जन राखे पारब्रहमि आपि ॥
The Supreme Lord God Himself has saved His humble servant.
ਪਾਪੀ ਮੂਆ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਤਾਪਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Paapee Mooaa Gur Parathaap ||1|| Rehaao ||
पापी मूआ गुर परतापि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The sinner died through the Power of the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਅਪਣਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਜਨਿ ਆਪਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
Apanaa Khasam Jan Aap Dhhiaaeiaa ||
अपणा खसमु जनि आपि धिआइआ ॥
The humble servant of the Lord and Master meditates on Him.
ਇਆਣਾ ਪਾਪੀ ਓਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਪਚਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Eiaanaa Paapee Ouhu Aap Pachaaeiaa ||2||
इआणा पापी ओहु आपि पचाइआ ॥२॥
He Himself has destroyed the ignorant sinner. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਅਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਾ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥
Prabh Maath Pithaa Apanae Dhaas Kaa Rakhavaalaa ||
प्रभ मात पिता अपणे दास का रखवाला ॥
God is the Mother, the Father and the Protector of His slave.
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕਾ ਮਾਥਾ ਈਹਾਂ ਊਹਾ ਕਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
Nindhak Kaa Maathhaa Eehaan Oohaa Kaalaa ||3||
निंदक का माथा ईहां ऊहा काला ॥३॥
The face of the slanderer, here and hereafter, is blackened. ||3||
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
Jan Naanak Kee Paramaesar Sunee Aradhaas ||
जन नानक की परमेसरि सुणी अरदासि ॥
The Transcendent Lord has heard the prayer of servant Nanak.
ਮਲੇਛੁ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਚਿਆ ਭਇਆ ਨਿਰਾਸੁ ॥੪॥੯॥
Malaeshh Paapee Pachiaa Bhaeiaa Niraas ||4||9||
मलेछु पापी पचिआ भइआ निरासु ॥४॥९॥
The filthy sinner lost hope and died. ||4||9||

खूबु खूबु खूबु खूबु खूबु तेरो नामु ॥
Excellent, excellent, excellent, excellent, excellent is Your Name.
ਝੂਠੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਦੁਨੀ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jhooth Jhooth Jhooth Jhooth Dhunee Gumaan ||1|| Rehaao ||
झूठु झूठु झूठु झूठु दुनी गुमानु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
False, false, false, false is pride in the world. ||1||Pause||
ਨਗਜ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
Nagaj Thaerae Bandhae Dheedhaar Apaar ||
नगज तेरे बंदे दीदारु अपारु ॥
The glorious vision of Your slaves, O Infinite Lord, is wonderful and beauteous.
