One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਇਕੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
Thin Karathai Eik Chalath Oupaaeiaa ||
तिनि करतै इकु चलतु उपाइआ ॥
The Creator has staged His Wondrous Play.
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥
Anehadh Baanee Sabadh Sunaaeiaa ||
अनहद बाणी सबदु सुणाइआ ॥
I listen to the Unstruck Sound-current of the Shabad, and the Bani of His Word.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ॥
Manamukh Bhoolae Guramukh Bujhaaeiaa ||
मनमुखि भूले गुरमुखि बुझाइआ ॥
The self-willed manmukhs are deluded and confused, while the Gurmukhs understand.
ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
Kaaran Karathaa Karadhaa Aaeiaa ||1||
कारणु करता करदा आइआ ॥१॥
The Creator creates the Cause that causes. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Maerai Anthar Dhhiaan ||
गुर का सबदु मेरै अंतरि धिआनु ॥
Deep within my being, I meditate on the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਹਉ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Ho Kabahu N Shhoddo Har Kaa Naam ||1|| Rehaao ||
हउ कबहु न छोडउ हरि का नामु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I shall never forsake the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਪੜਣ ਪਠਾਇਆ ॥
Pithaa Prehalaadh Parran Pathaaeiaa ||
पिता प्रहलादु पड़ण पठाइआ ॥
Prahlaad's father sent him to school, to learn to read.
ਲੈ ਪਾਟੀ ਪਾਧੇ ਕੈ ਆਇਆ ॥
Lai Paattee Paadhhae Kai Aaeiaa ||
लै पाटी पाधे कै आइआ ॥
He took his writing tablet and went to the teacher.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹ ਪੜਉ ਅਚਾਰ ॥
Naam Binaa Neh Parro Achaar ||
नाम बिना नह पड़उ अचार ॥
He said, ""I shall not read anything except the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਮੇਰੀ ਪਟੀਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
Maeree Patteeaa Likh Dhaehu Gobindh Muraar ||2||
मेरी पटीआ लिखि देहु गोबिंद मुरारि ॥२॥
Write the Lord's Name on my tablet."||2||
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਸਿਉ ਕਹਿਆ ਮਾਇ ॥
Puthr Prehilaadh Sio Kehiaa Maae ||
पुत्र प्रहिलाद सिउ कहिआ माइ ॥
Prahlaad's mother said to her son,
ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਨ ਪੜਹੁ ਰਹੀ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥
Paravirath N Parrahu Rehee Samajhaae ||
परविरति न पड़हु रही समझाइ ॥
"I advise you not to read anything except what you are taught."
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
Nirabho Dhaathaa Har Jeeo Maerai Naal ||
निरभउ दाता हरि जीउ मेरै नालि ॥
He answered, ""The Great Giver, my Fearless Lord God is always with me.
ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਛੋਡਉ ਤਉ ਕੁਲਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਗਾਲਿ ॥੩॥
Jae Har Shhoddo Tho Kul Laagai Gaal ||3||
जे हरि छोडउ तउ कुलि लागै गालि ॥३॥
If I were to forsake the Lord, then my family would be disgraced.""||3||
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦਿ ਸਭਿ ਚਾਟੜੇ ਵਿਗਾਰੇ ॥
Prehalaadh Sabh Chaattarrae Vigaarae ||
प्रहलादि सभि चाटड़े विगारे ॥
"Prahlaad has corrupted all the other students.
ਹਮਾਰਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਨ ਸੁਣੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
Hamaaraa Kehiaa N Sunai Aapanae Kaaraj Savaarae ||
हमारा कहिआ न सुणै आपणे कारज सवारे ॥
He does not listen to what I say, and he does his own thing.
ਸਭ ਨਗਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਈ ॥
Sabh Nagaree Mehi Bhagath Dhrirraaee ||
सभ नगरी महि भगति द्रिड़ाई ॥
He instigated devotional worship in the townspeople.""
ਦੁਸਟ ਸਭਾ ਕਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੪॥
Dhusatt Sabhaa Kaa Kishh N Vasaaee ||4||
दुसट सभा का किछु न वसाई ॥४॥
The gathering of the wicked people could not do anything against him. ||4||
ਸੰਡੈ ਮਰਕੈ ਕੀਈ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥
Sanddai Marakai Keeee Pookaar ||
संडै मरकै कीई पूकार ॥
Sanda and Marka, his teachers, made the complaint.
ਸਭੇ ਦੈਤ ਰਹੇ ਝਖ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
Sabhae Dhaith Rehae Jhakh Maar ||
सभे दैत रहे झख मारि ॥
All the demons kept trying in vain.
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
Bhagath Janaa Kee Path Raakhai Soee ||
भगत जना की पति राखै सोई ॥
The Lord protected His humble devotee, and preserved his honor.
ਕੀਤੇ ਕੈ ਕਹਿਐ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥
Keethae Kai Kehiai Kiaa Hoee ||5||
कीते कै कहिऐ किआ होई ॥५॥
What can be done by mere created beings? ||5||
ਕਿਰਤ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਦੈਤਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥
Kirath Sanjogee Dhaith Raaj Chalaaeiaa ||
किरत संजोगी दैति राजु चलाइआ ॥
Because of his past karma, the demon ruled over his kingdom.
ਹਰਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
Har N Boojhai Thin Aap Bhulaaeiaa ||
हरि न बूझै तिनि आपि भुलाइआ ॥
He did not realize the Lord; the Lord Himself confused him.
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਸਿਉ ਵਾਦੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
Puthr Prehalaadh Sio Vaadh Rachaaeiaa ||
पुत्र प्रहलाद सिउ वादु रचाइआ ॥
He started an argument with his son Prahlaad.
ਅੰਧਾ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੬॥
Andhhaa N Boojhai Kaal Naerrai Aaeiaa ||6||
अंधा न बूझै कालु नेड़ै आइआ ॥६॥
The blind one did not understand that his death was approaching. ||6||
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਕੋਠੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਬਾਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਤਾਲਾ ॥
Prehalaadh Kothae Vich Raakhiaa Baar Dheeaa Thaalaa ||
प्रहलादु कोठे विचि राखिआ बारि दीआ ताला ॥
Prahlaad was placed in a cell, and the door was locked.
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਡਰਈ ਮੇਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥
Nirabho Baalak Mool N Ddaree Maerai Anthar Gur Gopaalaa ||
निरभउ बालकु मूलि न डरई मेरै अंतरि गुर गोपाला ॥
The fearless child was not afraid at all. He said, ""Within my being, is the Guru, the Lord of the World.""
ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਰੀਕੀ ਕਰੈ ਅਨਹੋਦਾ ਨਾਉ ਧਰਾਇਆ ॥
Keethaa Hovai Sareekee Karai Anehodhaa Naao Dhharaaeiaa ||
कीता होवै सरीकी करै अनहोदा नाउ धराइआ ॥
The created being tried to compete with his Creator, but he assumed this name in vain.
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸ ਆਇ ਪਹੁਤਾ ਜਨ ਸਿਉ ਵਾਦੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
Jo Dhhur Likhiaa Suo Aae Pahuthaa Jan Sio Vaadh Rachaaeiaa ||7||
जो धुरि लिखिआ सो आइ पहुता जन सिउ वादु रचाइआ ॥७॥
That which was predestined for him has come to pass; he started an argument with the Lord's humble servant. ||7||
ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਸਿਉ ਗੁਰਜ ਉਠਾਈ ॥
Pithaa Prehalaadh Sio Guraj Outhaaee ||
पिता प्रहलाद सिउ गुरज उठाई ॥
The father raised the club to strike down Prahlaad, saying,
ਕਹਾਂ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਾ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
Kehaan Thumhaaraa Jagadhees Gusaaee ||
कहां तुम्हारा जगदीस गुसाई ॥
"Where is your God, the Lord of the Universe, now?"
ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
Jagajeevan Dhaathaa Anth Sakhaaee ||
जगजीवनु दाता अंति सखाई ॥
He replied, ""The Life of the World, the Great Giver, is my Help and Support in the end.
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੮॥
Jeh Dhaekhaa Theh Rehiaa Samaaee ||8||
जह देखा तह रहिआ समाई ॥८॥
Wherever I look, I see Him permeating and prevailing.""||8||
ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹੁ ਉਪਾੜਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
Thhanmha Oupaarr Har Aap Dhikhaaeiaa ||
थम्हु उपाड़ि हरि आपु दिखाइआ ॥
Tearing down the pillars, the Lord Himself appeared.
ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਦੈਤੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਚਾਇਆ ॥
Ahankaaree Dhaith Maar Pachaaeiaa ||
अहंकारी दैतु मारि पचाइआ ॥
The egotistical demon was killed and destroyed.
ਭਗਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ॥
Bhagathaa Man Aanandh Vajee Vadhhaaee ||
भगता मनि आनंदु वजी वधाई ॥
The minds of the devotees were filled with bliss, and congratulations poured in.
ਅਪਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੯॥
Apanae Saevak Ko Dhae Vaddiaaee ||9||
अपने सेवक कउ दे वडिआई ॥९॥
He blessed His servant with glorious greatness. ||9||
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
Janman Maranaa Mohu Oupaaeiaa ||
जमणु मरणा मोहु उपाइआ ॥
He created birth, death and attachment.
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Aavan Jaanaa Karathai Likh Paaeiaa ||
आवणु जाणा करतै लिखि पाइआ ॥
The Creator has ordained coming and going in reincarnation.
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਕੈ ਕਾਰਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
Prehalaadh Kai Kaaraj Har Aap Dhikhaaeiaa ||
प्रहलाद कै कारजि हरि आपु दिखाइआ ॥
For the sake of Prahlaad, the Lord Himself appeared.
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਬੋਲੁ ਆਗੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੧੦॥
Bhagathaa Kaa Bol Aagai Aaeiaa ||10||
भगता का बोलु आगै आइआ ॥१०॥
The word of the devotee came true. ||10||
ਦੇਵ ਕੁਲੀ ਲਖਿਮੀ ਕਉ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥
Dhaev Kulee Lakhimee Ko Karehi Jaikaar ||
देव कुली लखिमी कउ करहि जैकारु ॥
The gods proclaimed the victory of Lakshmi, and said,
ਮਾਤਾ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਕਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੁ ॥
Maathaa Narasingh Kaa Roop Nivaar ||
माता नरसिंघ का रूपु निवारु ॥
"O mother, make this form of the Man-lion disappear!"
ਲਖਿਮੀ ਭਉ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
Lakhimee Bho Karai N Saakai Jaae ||
लखिमी भउ करै न साकै जाइ ॥
Lakshmi was afraid, and did not approach.
