ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
Sathigur Dhaathaa Mukath Karaaeae ||
सतिगुरु दाता मुकति कराए ॥
The True Guru, the Giver, grants liberation;
ਸਭਿ ਰੋਗ ਗਵਾਏ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Sabh Rog Gavaaeae Anmrith Ras Paaeae ||
सभि रोग गवाए अम्रित रसु पाए ॥
All diseases are eradicated, and one is blessed with the Ambrosial Nectar.
ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਰੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਠਰੁ ਸੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
Jam Jaagaath Naahee Kar Laagai Jis Agan Bujhee Thar Seenaa Hae ||5||
जमु जागाति नाही करु लागै जिसु अगनि बुझी ठरु सीना हे ॥५॥
Death, the tax collector, does not impose any tax on one whose inner fire has been put out, whose heart is cool and tranquil. ||5||
ਕਾਇਆ ਹੰਸ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
Kaaeiaa Hans Preeth Bahu Dhhaaree ||
काइआ हंस प्रीति बहु धारी ॥
The body has developed a great love for the soul-swan.
ਓਹੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਓਹ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
Ouhu Jogee Purakh Ouh Sundhar Naaree ||
ओहु जोगी पुरखु ओह सुंदरि नारी ॥
He is a Yogi, and she is a beautiful woman.
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭੋਗੈ ਚੋਜ ਬਿਨੋਦੀ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਤੈ ਮਤਾ ਨ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
Ahinis Bhogai Choj Binodhee Outh Chalathai Mathaa N Keenaa Hae ||6||
अहिनिसि भोगै चोज बिनोदी उठि चलतै मता न कीना हे ॥६॥
Day and night, he enjoys her with delight, and then he arises and departs without consulting her. ||6||
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਛਾਜੈ ॥
Srisatt Oupaae Rehae Prabh Shhaajai ||
स्रिसटि उपाइ रहे प्रभ छाजै ॥
Creating the Universe, God remains diffused throughout it.
ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਗਾਜੈ ॥
Poun Paanee Baisanthar Gaajai ||
पउण पाणी बैसंतरु गाजै ॥
In the wind, water and fire, He vibrates and resounds.
ਮਨੂਆ ਡੋਲੈ ਦੂਤ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
Manooaa Ddolai Dhooth Sangath Mil So Paaeae Jo Kishh Keenaa Hae ||7||
मनूआ डोलै दूत संगति मिलि सो पाए जो किछु कीना हे ॥७॥
The mind wavers, keeping company with evil passions; one obtains the rewards of his own actions. ||7||
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਦੋਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਹੀਐ ॥
Naam Visaar Dhokh Dhukh Seheeai ||
नामु विसारि दोख दुख सहीऐ ॥
Forgetting the Naam, one suffers the misery of his evil ways.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਭਇਆ ਚਲਣਾ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ॥
Hukam Bhaeiaa Chalanaa Kio Reheeai ||
हुकमु भइआ चलणा किउ रहीऐ ॥
When the order to depart is issued, how can he remain here?
ਨਰਕ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਮੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
Narak Koop Mehi Gothae Khaavai Jio Jal Thae Baahar Meenaa Hae ||8||
नरक कूप महि गोते खावै जिउ जल ते बाहरि मीना हे ॥८॥
He falls into the pit of hell, and suffers like a fish out of water. ||8||
ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਨਰਕ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਭੋਗਾਈਐ ॥
Chouraaseeh Narak Saakath Bhogaaeeai ||
चउरासीह नरक साकतु भोगाईऐ ॥
The faithless cynic has to endure 8.4 million hellish incarnations.
ਜੈਸਾ ਕੀਚੈ ਤੈਸੋ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Jaisaa Keechai Thaiso Paaeeai ||
जैसा कीचै तैसो पाईऐ ॥
As he acts, so does he suffer.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਗ੍ਰਸਿ ਦੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
Sathigur Baajhahu Mukath N Hoee Kirath Baadhhaa Gras Dheenaa Hae ||9||
सतिगुर बाझहु मुकति न होई किरति बाधा ग्रसि दीना हे ॥९॥
Without the True Guru, there is no liberation. Bound and gagged by his own actions, he is helpless. ||9||
ਖੰਡੇ ਧਾਰ ਗਲੀ ਅਤਿ ਭੀੜੀ ॥
Khanddae Dhhaar Galee Ath Bheerree ||
खंडे धार गली अति भीड़ी ॥
This path is very narrow, like the sharp edge of a sword.
ਲੇਖਾ ਲੀਜੈ ਤਿਲ ਜਿਉ ਪੀੜੀ ॥
Laekhaa Leejai Thil Jio Peerree ||
लेखा लीजै तिल जिउ पीड़ी ॥
When his account is read, he shall be crushed like the sesame seed in the mill.
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਤ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
Maath Pithaa Kalathr Suth Baelee Naahee Bin Har Ras Mukath N Keenaa Hae ||10||
मात पिता कलत्र सुत बेली नाही बिनु हरि रस मुकति न कीना हे ॥१०॥
Mother, father, spouse and child - none is anyone's friend in the end. Without the Lord's Love, no one is liberated. ||10||
ਮੀਤ ਸਖੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਜਗ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
Meeth Sakhae Kaethae Jag Maahee ||
मीत सखे केते जग माही ॥
You may have many friends and companions in the world,
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Bin Gur Paramaesar Koee Naahee ||
बिनु गुर परमेसर कोई नाही ॥
But without the Guru, the Transcendent Lord Incarnate, there is no one at all.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਰਾਇਣਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
Gur Kee Saevaa Mukath Paraaein Anadhin Keerathan Keenaa Hae ||11||
गुर की सेवा मुकति पराइणि अनदिनु कीरतनु कीना हे ॥११॥
Service to the Guru is the way to liberation. Night and day, sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||11||
ਕੂੜੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਉ ਧਾਵਹੁ ॥
Koorr Shhodd Saachae Ko Dhhaavahu ||
कूड़ु छोडि साचे कउ धावहु ॥
Abandon falsehood, and pursue the Truth,
ਜੋ ਇਛਹੁ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥
Jo Eishhahu Soee Fal Paavahu ||
जो इछहु सोई फलु पावहु ॥
And you shall obtain the fruits of your desires.
ਸਾਚ ਵਖਰ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ਸਉਦਾ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
Saach Vakhar Kae Vaapaaree Viralae Lai Laahaa Soudhaa Keenaa Hae ||12||
साच वखर के वापारी विरले लै लाहा सउदा कीना हे ॥१२॥
Very few are those who trade in the merchandise of Truth. Those who deal in it, obtain the true profit. ||12||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਲੈ ਚਲਹੁ ॥
Har Har Naam Vakhar Lai Chalahu ||
हरि हरि नामु वखरु लै चलहु ॥
Depart with the merchandise of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਹਲਹੁ ॥
Dharasan Paavahu Sehaj Mehalahu ||
दरसनु पावहु सहजि महलहु ॥
And you shall intuitively obtain the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, in the Mansion of His Presence.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹਹਿ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ਇਉ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਚੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
Guramukh Khoj Lehehi Jan Poorae Eio Samadharasee Cheenaa Hae ||13||
गुरमुखि खोजि लहहि जन पूरे इउ समदरसी चीना हे ॥१३॥
The Gurmukhs search for Him and find Him; they are the perfect humble beings. In this way, they see Him, who looks upon all alike. ||13||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
Prabh Baeanth Guramath Ko Paavehi ||
प्रभ बेअंत गुरमति को पावहि ॥
God is endless; following the Guru's Teachings, some find Him.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵਹਿ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadh Man Ko Samajhaavehi ||
गुर कै सबदि मन कउ समझावहि ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they instruct their minds.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਇਉ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੈ ਲੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
Sathigur Kee Baanee Sath Sath Kar Maanahu Eio Aatham Raamai Leenaa Hae ||14||
सतिगुर की बाणी सति सति करि मानहु इउ आतम रामै लीना हे ॥१४॥
Accept as True, Perfectly True, the Word of the True Guru's Bani. In this way, you shall merge in the Lord, the Supreme Soul. ||14||
ਨਾਰਦ ਸਾਰਦ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
Naaradh Saaradh Saevak Thaerae ||
नारद सारद सेवक तेरे ॥
Naarad and Saraswati are Your servants.
ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਵਡਹੁ ਵਡੇਰੇ ॥
Thribhavan Saevak Vaddahu Vaddaerae ||
त्रिभवणि सेवक वडहु वडेरे ॥
Your servants are the greatest of the great, throughout the three worlds.
ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੂ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
Sabh Thaeree Kudharath Thoo Sir Sir Dhaathaa Sabh Thaero Kaaran Keenaa Hae ||15||
सभ तेरी कुदरति तू सिरि सिरि दाता सभु तेरो कारणु कीना हे ॥१५॥
Your creative power permeates all; You are the Great Giver of all. You created the whole creation. ||15||
ਇਕਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਵਞਾਏ ॥
Eik Dhar Saevehi Dharadh Vanjaaeae ||
इकि दरि सेवहि दरदु वञाए ॥
Some serve at Your Door, and their sufferings are dispelled.
ਓਇ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਛਡਾਏ ॥
Oue Dharageh Paidhhae Sathiguroo Shhaddaaeae ||
ओइ दरगह पैधे सतिगुरू छडाए ॥
They are robed with honor in the Court of the Lord, and emancipated by the True Guru.
ਹਉਮੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੋੜੇ ਚਿਤੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਚਲਣਿ ਨ ਦੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥
Houmai Bandhhan Sathigur Thorrae Chith Chanchal Chalan N Dheenaa Hae ||16||
हउमै बंधन सतिगुरि तोड़े चितु चंचलु चलणि न दीना हे ॥१६॥
The True Guru breaks the bonds of egotism, and restrains the fickle consciousness. ||16||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਚੀਨਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਈ ॥
Sathigur Milahu Cheenahu Bidhh Saaee ||
सतिगुर मिलहु चीनहु बिधि साई ॥
Meet the True Guru, and search for the way,
ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥
Jith Prabh Paavahu Ganath N Kaaee ||
जितु प्रभु पावहु गणत न काई ॥
By which you may find God, and not have to answer for your account.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਭੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੭॥੨॥੮॥
Houmai Maar Karahu Gur Saevaa Jan Naanak Har Rang Bheenaa Hae ||17||2||8||
हउमै मारि करहु गुर सेवा जन नानक हरि रंगि भीना हे ॥१७॥२॥८॥
Subdue your egotism, and serve the Guru; O servant Nanak, you shall be drenched with the Lord's Love. ||17||2||8||

My Lord is the Destroyer of demons.
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
Ghatt Ghatt Rameeaa Raam Piaaraa ||
घटि घटि रमईआ रामु पिआरा ॥
My Beloved Lord is pervading each and every heart.
ਨਾਲੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਮੂਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਿਖੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
Naalae Alakh N Lakheeai Moolae Guramukh Likh Veechaaraa Hae ||1||
नाले अलखु न लखीऐ मूले गुरमुखि लिखु वीचारा हे ॥१॥
The unseen Lord is always with us, but He is not seen at all. The Gurmukh contemplates the record. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥
Guramukh Saadhhoo Saran Thumaaree ||
गुरमुखि साधू सरणि तुमारी ॥
