I am the slave of Your slaves, O my Beloved.
ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸਾਚ ਭਲੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
Saadhhik Saach Bhalae Veechaarae ||
साधिक साच भले वीचारे ॥
The seekers of Truth and goodness contemplate You.
ਮੰਨੇ ਨਾਉ ਸੋਈ ਜਿਣਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਆਪੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
Mannae Naao Soee Jin Jaasee Aapae Saach Dhrirraaeidhaa ||10||
मंने नाउ सोई जिणि जासी आपे साचु द्रिड़ाइदा ॥१०॥
Whoever believes in the Name, wins; He Himself implants Truth within. ||10||
ਪਲੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ॥
Palai Saach Sachae Sachiaaraa ||
पलै साचु सचे सचिआरा ॥
The Truest of the True has the Truth is His lap.
ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
Saachae Bhaavai Sabadh Piaaraa ||
साचे भावै सबदु पिआरा ॥
The True Lord is pleased with those who love the Shabad.
ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਲਾ ਧਰਿ ਥਾਪੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਹੀ ਪਤੀਆਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
Thribhavan Saach Kalaa Dhhar Thhaapee Saachae Hee Patheeaaeidhaa ||11||
त्रिभवणि साचु कला धरि थापी साचे ही पतीआइदा ॥११॥
Exerting His power, the Lord has established Truth throughout the three worlds; with Truth He is pleased. ||11||
ਵਡਾ ਵਡਾ ਆਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
Vaddaa Vaddaa Aakhai Sabh Koee ||
वडा वडा आखै सभु कोई ॥
Everyone calls Him the greatest of the great.
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
Gur Bin Sojhee Kinai N Hoee ||
गुर बिनु सोझी किनै न होई ॥
Without the Guru, no one understands Him.
ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਏ ਨਾ ਵੀਛੁੜਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
Saach Milai So Saachae Bhaaeae Naa Veeshhurr Dhukh Paaeidhaa ||12||
साचि मिलै सो साचे भाए ना वीछुड़ि दुखु पाइदा ॥१२॥
The True Lord is pleased with those who merge in Truth; they are not separated again, and they do not suffer. ||12||
ਧੁਰਹੁ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਧਾਹੀ ਰੁੰਨੇ ॥
Dhhurahu Vishhunnae Dhhaahee Runnae ||
धुरहु विछुंने धाही रुंने ॥
Separated from the Primal Lord, they loudly weep and wail.
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਪੁੰਨੇ ॥
Mar Mar Janamehi Muhalath Punnae ||
मरि मरि जनमहि मुहलति पुंने ॥
They die and die, only to be reborn, when their time has passed.
ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮੇਲਿ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
Jis Bakhasae This Dhae Vaddiaaee Mael N Pashhothaaeidhaa ||13||
जिसु बखसे तिसु दे वडिआई मेलि न पछोताइदा ॥१३॥
He blesses those whom He forgives with glorious greatness; united with Him, they do not regret or repent. ||13 |
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥
Aapae Karathaa Aapae Bhugathaa ||
आपे करता आपे भुगता ॥
| He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself is the Enjoyer.
ਆਪੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥
Aapae Thripathaa Aapae Mukathaa ||
आपे त्रिपता आपे मुकता ॥
He Himself is satisfied, and He Himself is liberated.
ਆਪੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੁਕਤੀਸਰੁ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
Aapae Mukath Dhaan Mukatheesar Mamathaa Mohu Chukaaeidhaa ||14||
आपे मुकति दानु मुकतीसरु ममता मोहु चुकाइदा ॥१४॥
The Lord of liberation Himself grants liberation; He eradicates possessiveness and attachment. ||14||
ਦਾਨਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
Dhaanaa Kai Sir Dhaan Veechaaraa ||
दाना कै सिरि दानु वीचारा ॥
I consider Your gifts to be the most wonderful gifts.
ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Karan Kaaran Samarathh Apaaraa ||
करण कारण समरथु अपारा ॥
You are the Cause of causes, Almighty Infinite Lord.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
Kar Kar Vaekhai Keethaa Apanaa Karanee Kaar Karaaeidhaa ||15||
करि करि वेखै कीता अपणा करणी कार कराइदा ॥१५॥
Creating the creation, You gaze upon what You have created; You cause all to do their deeds. ||15||
ਸੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਵਹਿ ॥
Sae Gun Gaavehi Saachae Bhaavehi ||
से गुण गावहि साचे भावहि ॥
They alone sing Your Glorious Praises, who are pleasing to You, O True Lord.
ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਹਿ ਤੁਝ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥
Thujh Thae Oupajehi Thujh Maahi Samaavehi ||
तुझ ते उपजहि तुझ माहि समावहि ॥
They issue forth from You, and merge again into You.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੨॥੧੪॥
Naanak Saach Kehai Baenanthee Mil Saachae Sukh Paaeidhaa ||16||2||14||
नानकु साचु कहै बेनंती मिलि साचे सुखु पाइदा ॥१६॥२॥१४॥
Nanak offers this true prayer; meeting with the True Lord, peace is obtained. ||16||2||14||

For endless eons, there was only utter darkness.
ਧਰਣਿ ਨ ਗਗਨਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Dhharan N Gaganaa Hukam Apaaraa ||
धरणि न गगना हुकमु अपारा ॥
There was no earth or sky; there was only the infinite Command of His Hukam.
ਨਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਨ ਚੰਦੁ ਨ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
Naa Dhin Rain N Chandh N Sooraj Sunn Samaadhh Lagaaeidhaa ||1||
ना दिनु रैनि न चंदु न सूरजु सुंन समाधि लगाइदा ॥१॥
There was no day or night, no moon or sun; God sat in primal, profound Samaadhi. ||1||
ਖਾਣੀ ਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਪਉਣ ਨ ਪਾਣੀ ॥
Khaanee N Baanee Poun N Paanee ||
खाणी न बाणी पउण न पाणी ॥
There were no sources of creation or powers of speech, no air or water.
ਓਪਤਿ ਖਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
Oupath Khapath N Aavan Jaanee ||
ओपति खपति न आवण जाणी ॥
There was no creation or destruction, no coming or going.
ਖੰਡ ਪਤਾਲ ਸਪਤ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਦੀ ਨ ਨੀਰੁ ਵਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
Khandd Pathaal Sapath Nehee Saagar Nadhee N Neer Vehaaeidhaa ||2||
खंड पताल सपत नही सागर नदी न नीरु वहाइदा ॥२॥
There were no continents, nether regions, seven seas, rivers or flowing water. ||2||
ਨਾ ਤਦਿ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲਾ ॥
Naa Thadh Surag Mashh Paeiaalaa ||
ना तदि सुरगु मछु पइआला ॥
There were no heavenly realms, earth or nether regions of the underworld.
ਦੋਜਕੁ ਭਿਸਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਖੈ ਕਾਲਾ ॥
Dhojak Bhisath Nehee Khai Kaalaa ||
दोजकु भिसतु नही खै काला ॥
There was no heaven or hell, no death or time.
ਨਰਕੁ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਨਹੀ ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
Narak Surag Nehee Janman Maranaa Naa Ko Aae N Jaaeidhaa ||3||
नरकु सुरगु नही जमणु मरणा ना को आइ न जाइदा ॥३॥
There was no hell or heaven, no birth or death, no coming or going in reincarnation. ||3||
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
Brehamaa Bisan Mehaes N Koee ||
ब्रहमा बिसनु महेसु न कोई ॥
There was no Brahma, Vishnu or Shiva.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
Avar N Dheesai Eaeko Soee ||
अवरु न दीसै एको सोई ॥
No one was seen, except the One Lord.
ਨਾਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਜਨਮਾ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
Naar Purakh Nehee Jaath N Janamaa Naa Ko Dhukh Sukh Paaeidhaa ||4||
नारि पुरखु नही जाति न जनमा ना को दुखु सुखु पाइदा ॥४॥
There was no female or male, no social class or caste of birth; no one experienced pain or pleasure. ||4||
ਨਾ ਤਦਿ ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਬਨਵਾਸੀ ॥
Naa Thadh Jathee Sathee Banavaasee ||
ना तदि जती सती बनवासी ॥
There were no people of celibacy or charity; no one lived in the forests.
ਨਾ ਤਦਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸੁਖਵਾਸੀ ॥
Naa Thadh Sidhh Saadhhik Sukhavaasee ||
ना तदि सिध साधिक सुखवासी ॥
There were no Siddhas or seekers, no one living in peace.
ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਭੇਖੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਨਾਥੁ ਕਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
Jogee Jangam Bhaekh N Koee Naa Ko Naathh Kehaaeidhaa ||5||
जोगी जंगम भेखु न कोई ना को नाथु कहाइदा ॥५॥
There were no Yogis, no wandering pilgrims, no religious robes; no one called himself the master. ||5||
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਨਾ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
Jap Thap Sanjam Naa Brath Poojaa ||
जप तप संजम ना ब्रत पूजा ॥
There was no chanting or meditation, no self-discipline, fasting or worship.
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
Naa Ko Aakh Vakhaanai Dhoojaa ||
ना को आखि वखाणै दूजा ॥
No one spoke or talked in duality.
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
Aapae Aap Oupaae Vigasai Aapae Keemath Paaeidhaa ||6||
आपे आपि उपाइ विगसै आपे कीमति पाइदा ॥६॥
He created Himself, and rejoiced; He evaluates Himself. ||6||
ਨਾ ਸੁਚਿ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਤੁਲਸੀ ਮਾਲਾ ॥
Naa Such Sanjam Thulasee Maalaa ||
ना सुचि संजमु तुलसी माला ॥
There was no purification, no self-restraint, no malas of basil seeds.
ਗੋਪੀ ਕਾਨੁ ਨ ਗਊ ਗਆਲਾ ॥
Gopee Kaan N Goo Guoaalaa ||
गोपी कानु न गऊ गोआला ॥
There were no Gopis, no Krishna, no cows or cowherds.
ਤੰਤੁ ਮੰਤੁ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਵੰਸੁ ਵਜਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
Thanth Manth Paakhandd N Koee Naa Ko Vans Vajaaeidhaa ||7||
तंतु मंतु पाखंडु न कोई ना को वंसु वजाइदा ॥७॥
There were no tantras, no mantras and no hypocrisy; no one played the flute. ||7||
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਖੀ ॥
Karam Dhharam Nehee Maaeiaa Maakhee ||
करम धरम नही माइआ माखी ॥
There was no karma, no Dharma, no buzzing fly of Maya.
ਜਾਤਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੀਸੈ ਆਖੀ ॥
Jaath Janam Nehee Dheesai Aakhee ||
जाति जनमु नही दीसै आखी ॥
Social class and birth were not seen with any eyes.
ਮਮਤਾ ਜਾਲੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਥੈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਕਿਸੈ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
Mamathaa Jaal Kaal Nehee Maathhai Naa Ko Kisai Dhhiaaeidhaa ||8||
ममता जालु कालु नही माथै ना को किसै धिआइदा ॥८॥
There was no noose of attachment, no death inscribed upon the forehead; no one meditated on anything. ||8||
ਨਿੰਦੁ ਬਿੰਦੁ ਨਹੀ ਜੀਉ ਨ ਜਿੰਦੋ ॥
Nindh Bindh Nehee Jeeo N Jindho ||
निंदु बिंदु नही जीउ न जिंदो ॥
There was no slander, no seed, no soul and no life.
ਨਾ ਤਦਿ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਨਾ ਮਾਛਿੰਦੋ ॥
Naa Thadh Gorakh Naa Maashhindho ||
ना तदि गोरखु ना माछिंदो ॥
There was no Gorakh and no Maachhindra.
ਨਾ ਤਦਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਕੁਲ ਓਪਤਿ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਗਣਤ ਗਣਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
Naa Thadh Giaan Dhhiaan Kul Oupath Naa Ko Ganath Ganaaeidhaa ||9||
ना तदि गिआनु धिआनु कुल ओपति ना को गणत गणाइदा ॥९॥
There was no spiritual wisdom or meditation, no ancestry or creation, no reckoning of accounts. ||9||
