ਭੂਲੇ ਸਿਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਝਾਏ ॥
Bhoolae Sikh Guroo Samajhaaeae ||
भूले सिख गुरू समझाए ॥
The Guru instructs His wandering Sikhs;
ਉਝੜਿ ਜਾਦੇ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
Oujharr Jaadhae Maarag Paaeae ||
उझड़ि जादे मारगि पाए ॥
If they go astray, He sets them on the right path.
ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਖਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
This Gur Saev Sadhaa Dhin Raathee Dhukh Bhanjan Sang Sakhaathaa Hae ||13||
तिसु गुर सेवि सदा दिनु राती दुख भंजन संगि सखाता हे ॥१३॥
So serve the Guru, forever, day and night; He is the Destroyer of pain - He is with you as your companion. ||13||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥
Gur Kee Bhagath Karehi Kiaa Praanee ||
गुर की भगति करहि किआ प्राणी ॥
O mortal being, what devotional worship have you performed to the Guru?
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿ ਮਹੇਸਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
Brehamai Eindhr Mehaes N Jaanee ||
ब्रहमै इंद्रि महेसि न जाणी ॥
Even Brahma, Indra and Shiva do not know it.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਲਖੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
Sathigur Alakh Kehahu Kio Lakheeai Jis Bakhasae Thisehi Pashhaathaa Hae ||14||
सतिगुरु अलखु कहहु किउ लखीऐ जिसु बखसे तिसहि पछाता हे ॥१४॥
Tell me, how can the unknowable True Guru be known? He alone attains this realization, whom the Lord forgives. ||14||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ॥

अंतरि प्रेमु परापति दरसनु ॥
One who has love within, obtains the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸੁ ਪਰਸਨੁ ॥
Gurabaanee Sio Preeth S Parasan ||
गुरबाणी सिउ प्रीति सु परसनु ॥
One who enshrines love for the Word of the Guru's Bani, meets with Him.
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਘਟਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
Ahinis Niramal Joth Sabaaee Ghatt Dheepak Guramukh Jaathaa Hae ||15||
अहिनिसि निरमल जोति सबाई घटि दीपकु गुरमुखि जाता हे ॥१५॥
Day and night, the Gurmukh sees the immaculate Divine Light everywhere; this lamp illuminates his heart. ||15||
ਭੋਜਨ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
Bhojan Giaan Mehaa Ras Meethaa ||
भोजन गिआनु महा रसु मीठा ॥
The food of spiritual wisdom is the supremely sweet essence.
ਜਿਨਿ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਡੀਠਾ ॥
Jin Chaakhiaa Thin Dharasan Ddeethaa ||
जिनि चाखिआ तिनि दरसनु डीठा ॥
Whoever tastes it, sees the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥
Dharasan Dhaekh Milae Bairaagee Man Manasaa Maar Samaathaa Hae ||16||
दरसनु देखि मिले बैरागी मनु मनसा मारि समाता हे ॥१६॥
Beholding His Darshan, the unattached one meets the Lord; subduing the mind's desires, he merges into the Lord. ||16||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਪਰਧਾਨਾ ॥
Sathigur Saevehi Sae Paradhhaanaa ||
सतिगुरु सेवहि से परधाना ॥
Those who serve the True Guru are supreme and famous.
ਤਿਨ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
Thin Ghatt Ghatt Anthar Breham Pashhaanaa ||
तिन घट घट अंतरि ब्रहमु पछाना ॥
Deep within each and every heart, they recognize God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੭॥੫॥੧੧॥
Naanak Har Jas Har Jan Kee Sangath Dheejai Jin Sathigur Har Prabh Jaathaa Hae ||17||5||11||
नानक हरि जसु हरि जन की संगति दीजै जिन सतिगुरु हरि प्रभु जाता हे ॥१७॥५॥११॥
Please bless Nanak with the Lord's Praises, and the Sangat, the Congregation of the Lord's humble servants; through the True Guru, they know their Lord God. ||17||5||11||

Maaroo, First Mehl:
ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੇ ॥
Saachae Saahib Sirajanehaarae ||
साचे साहिब सिरजणहारे ॥
The True Lord is the Creator of the Universe.
ਜਿਨਿ ਧਰ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਧਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
Jin Dhhar Chakr Dhharae Veechaarae ||
जिनि धर चक्र धरे वीचारे ॥
He established and contemplates the worldly sphere.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
Aapae Karathaa Kar Kar Vaekhai Saachaa Vaeparavaahaa Hae ||1||
आपे करता करि करि वेखै साचा वेपरवाहा हे ॥१॥
He Himself created the creation, and beholds it; He is True and independent. ||1||
ਵੇਕੀ ਵੇਕੀ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
Vaekee Vaekee Janth Oupaaeae ||
वेकी वेकी जंत उपाए ॥
He created the beings of different kinds.
ਦੁਇ ਪੰਦੀ ਦੁਇ ਰਾਹ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
Dhue Pandhee Dhue Raah Chalaaeae ||
दुइ पंदी दुइ राह चलाए ॥
The two travellers have set out in two directions.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
Gur Poorae Vin Mukath N Hoee Sach Naam Jap Laahaa Hae ||2||
गुर पूरे विणु मुकति न होई सचु नामु जपि लाहा हे ॥२॥
Without the Perfect Guru, no one is liberated. Chanting the True Name, one profits. ||2||
ਪੜਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਰੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
Parrehi Manamukh Par Bidhh Nehee Jaanaa ||
पड़हि मनमुख परु बिधि नही जाना ॥
The self-willed manmukhs read and study, but they do not know the way.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ॥
Naam N Boojhehi Bharam Bhulaanaa ||
नामु न बूझहि भरमि भुलाना ॥
They do not understand the Naam, the Name of the Lord; they wander, deluded by doubt.
ਲੈ ਕੈ ਵਢੀ ਦੇਨਿ ਉਗਾਹੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਾ ਗਲਿ ਫਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
Lai Kai Vadtee Dhaen Ougaahee Dhuramath Kaa Gal Faahaa Hae ||3||
लै कै वढी देनि उगाही दुरमति का गलि फाहा हे ॥३॥
They take bribes, and give false testimony; the noose of evil-mindedness is around their necks. ||3||
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੜਹਿ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ॥
Simrith Saasathr Parrehi Puraanaa ||
सिम्रिति सासत्र पड़हि पुराणा ॥
They read the Simritees, the Shaastras and the Puraanas;
ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
Vaadh Vakhaanehi Thath N Jaanaa ||
वादु वखाणहि ततु न जाणा ॥
They argue and debate, but do not know the essence of reality.
ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚ ਸੂਚੇ ਸਚੁ ਰਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
Vin Gur Poorae Thath N Paaeeai Sach Soochae Sach Raahaa Hae ||4||
विणु गुर पूरे ततु न पाईऐ सच सूचे सचु राहा हे ॥४॥
Without the Perfect Guru, the essence of reality is not obtained. The true and pure beings walk the Path of Truth. ||4||
ਸਭ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਖੈ ॥
Sabh Saalaahae Sun Sun Aakhai ||
सभ सालाहे सुणि सुणि आखै ॥
All praise God and listen, and listen and speak.
ਆਪੇ ਦਾਨਾ ਸਚੁ ਪਰਾਖੈ ॥
Aapae Dhaanaa Sach Paraakhai ||
आपे दाना सचु पराखै ॥
He Himself is wise, and He Himself judges the Truth.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
Jin Ko Nadhar Karae Prabh Apanee Guramukh Sabadh Salaahaa Hae ||5||
जिन कउ नदरि करे प्रभु अपनी गुरमुखि सबदु सलाहा हे ॥५॥
Those whom God blesses with His Glance of Grace become Gurmukh, and praise the Word of the Shabad. ||5||
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਖੈ ਕੇਤੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Sun Sun Aakhai Kaethee Baanee ||
सुणि सुणि आखै केती बाणी ॥
Many listen and listen, and speak the Guru's Bani.
ਸੁਣਿ ਕਹੀਐ ਕੋ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
Sun Keheeai Ko Anth N Jaanee ||
सुणि कहीऐ को अंतु न जाणी ॥
Listening and speaking, no one knows His limits.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਬੁਧਿ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
Jaa Ko Alakh Lakhaaeae Aapae Akathh Kathhaa Budhh Thaahaa Hae ||6||
जा कउ अलखु लखाए आपे अकथ कथा बुधि ताहा हे ॥६॥
He alone is wise, unto whom the unseen Lord reveals Himself; he speaks the Unspoken Speech. ||6||
ਜਨਮੇ ਕਉ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਵਾਧਾਏ ॥
Janamae Ko Vaajehi Vaadhhaaeae ||
जनमे कउ वाजहि वाधाए ॥
At birth, the congratulations pour in;
ਸੋਹਿਲੜੇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਗਾਏ ॥
Sohilarrae Agiaanee Gaaeae ||
सोहिलड़े अगिआनी गाए ॥
The ignorant sing songs of joy.
ਜੋ ਜਨਮੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਪਰ ਮਰਣਾ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
Jo Janamai This Sarapar Maranaa Kirath Paeiaa Sir Saahaa Hae ||7||
जो जनमै तिसु सरपर मरणा किरतु पइआ सिरि साहा हे ॥७॥
Whoever is born, is sure to die, according to the destiny of past deeds inscribed upon his head by the Sovereign Lord King. ||7||
ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਏ ॥
Sanjog Vijog Maerai Prabh Keeeae ||
संजोगु विजोगु मेरै प्रभि कीए ॥
Union and separation were created by my God.
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਦੁਖਾ ਸੁਖ ਦੀਏ ॥
Srisatt Oupaae Dhukhaa Sukh Dheeeae ||
स्रिसटि उपाइ दुखा सुख दीए ॥
Creating the Universe, He gave it pain and pleasure.
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਭਏ ਨਿਰਾਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੀਲੁ ਸਨਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
Dhukh Sukh Hee Thae Bheae Niraalae Guramukh Seel Sanaahaa Hae ||8||
दुख सुख ही ते भए निराले गुरमुखि सीलु सनाहा हे ॥८॥
The Gurmukhs remain unaffected by pain and pleasure; they wear the armor of humility. ||8||
ਨੀਕੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ॥
Neekae Saachae Kae Vaapaaree ||
नीके साचे के वापारी ॥
The noble people are traders in Truth.
ਸਚੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
Sach Soudhaa Lai Gur Veechaaree ||
सचु सउदा लै गुर वीचारी ॥
They purchase the true merchandise, contemplating the Guru.
ਸਚਾ ਵਖਰੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਓਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
Sachaa Vakhar Jis Dhhan Palai Sabadh Sachai Oumaahaa Hae ||9||
सचा वखरु जिसु धनु पलै सबदि सचै ओमाहा हे ॥९॥
One who has the wealth of the true commodity in his lap, is blessed with the rapture of the True Shabad. ||9||
ਕਾਚੀ ਸਉਦੀ ਤੋਟਾ ਆਵੈ ॥
Kaachee Soudhee Thottaa Aavai ||
काची सउदी तोटा आवै ॥
The false dealings lead only to loss.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
Guramukh Vanaj Karae Prabh Bhaavai ||
गुरमुखि वणजु करे प्रभ भावै ॥
The trades of the Gurmukh are pleasing to God.
ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਚੂਕਾ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਫਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
Poonjee Saabath Raas Salaamath Chookaa Jam Kaa Faahaa Hae ||10||
पूंजी साबतु रासि सलामति चूका जम का फाहा हे ॥१०॥
His stock is safe, and his capital is safe and sound. The noose of Death is cut away from around his neck. ||10||
