ਅਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
Ath Ras Meethaa Naam Piaaraa ||
अति रसु मीठा नामु पिआरा ॥
The sublime essence of the Beloved Naam is utterly sweet.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
Naanak Ko Jug Jug Har Jas Dheejai Har Japeeai Anth N Paaeiaa ||5||
नानक कउ जुगि जुगि हरि जसु दीजै हरि जपीऐ अंतु न पाइआ ॥५॥
O Lord, please bless Nanak with Your Praise in each and every age; meditating on the Lord, I cannot find His limits.||5||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੀਰਾ ॥
Anthar Naam Paraapath Heeraa ||
अंतरि नामु परापति हीरा ॥
With the Naam deep within the nucleus of the self, the jewel is obtained.
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਧੀਰਾ ॥
Har Japathae Man Man Thae Dhheeraa ||
हरि जपते मनु मन ते धीरा ॥
Meditating on the Lord, the mind is comforted and consoled by the mind itself.
ਦੁਘਟ ਘਟ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
Dhughatt Ghatt Bho Bhanjan Paaeeai Baahurr Janam N Jaaeiaa ||6||
दुघट घट भउ भंजनु पाईऐ बाहुड़ि जनमि न जाइआ ॥६॥
On that most difficult path, the Destroyer of fear is found, and one does not have to enter the womb of reincarnation again. ||6||
ਭਗਤਿ ਹੇਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਰੰਗਾ ॥
Bhagath Haeth Gur Sabadh Tharangaa ||
भगति हेति गुर सबदि तरंगा ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, inspiration for loving devotional worship wells up.
ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮੰਗਾ ॥
Har Jas Naam Padhaarathh Mangaa ||
हरि जसु नामु पदारथु मंगा ॥
I beg for the treasure of the Naam, and the Lord's Praise.
ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਤਾਰੇ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
Har Bhaavai Gur Mael Milaaeae Har Thaarae Jagath Sabaaeiaa ||7||
हरि भावै गुर मेलि मिलाए हरि तारे जगतु सबाइआ ॥७॥
When it pleases the Lord, He unites me in Union with the Guru; the Lord saves the whole world.||7||
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਪਿਓ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਤਿ ਵਾ ਕੇ ॥
Jin Jap Japiou Sathigur Math Vaa Kae ||
जिनि जपु जपिओ सतिगुर मति वा के ॥
One who chants the Lord's Chant, attains the Wisdom of the True Guru.
ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਗ ਤਾ ਕੇ ॥
Jamakankar Kaal Saevak Pag Thaa Kae ||
जमकंकर कालु सेवक पग ता के ॥
The tyrant, the Messenger of Death, becomes a servant at his feet.
ਊਤਮ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਜਗੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
Ootham Sangath Gath Mith Ootham Jag Bhoujal Paar Tharaaeiaa ||8||
ऊतम संगति गति मिति ऊतम जगु भउजलु पारि तराइआ ॥८॥
In the noble congregation of the Sangat, one's state and way of life become noble as well, and one crosses over the terrifying world-ocean. ||8||
ਇਹੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰ ਤਰੀਐ ॥
Eihu Bhavajal Jagath Sabadh Gur Thareeai ||
इहु भवजलु जगतु सबदि गुर तरीऐ ॥
Through the Shabad, one crosses over this terrifying world-ocean.
ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਰੀਐ ॥
Anthar Kee Dhubidhhaa Anthar Jareeai ||
अंतर की दुबिधा अंतरि जरीऐ ॥
The duality within is burnt away from within.
ਪੰਚ ਬਾਣ ਲੇ ਜਮ ਕਉ ਮਾਰੈ ਗਗਨੰਤਰਿ ਧਣਖੁ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥੯॥
Panch Baan Lae Jam Ko Maarai Gagananthar Dhhanakh Charraaeiaa ||9||
पंच बाण ले जम कउ मारै गगनंतरि धणखु चड़ाइआ ॥९॥
Taking up the five arrows of virtue, Death is killed, drawing the Bow of the Tenth Gate in the Mind's Sky. ||9||
ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰਿ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Saakath Nar Sabadh Surath Kio Paaeeai ||
साकत नरि सबद सुरति किउ पाईऐ ॥
How can the faithless cynics attain enlightened awareness of the Shabad?
ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਈਐ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
Sabadh Surath Bin Aaeeai Jaaeeai ||
सबद सुरति बिनु आईऐ जाईऐ ॥
Without awareness of the Shabad, they come and go in reincarnation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਰਾਇਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੦॥
Naanak Guramukh Mukath Paraaein Har Poorai Bhaag Milaaeiaa ||10||
नानक गुरमुखि मुकति पराइणु हरि पूरै भागि मिलाइआ ॥१०॥
O Nanak, the Gurmukh obtains the support of liberation; by perfect destiny, he meets the Lord. ||10||
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੈ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥
Nirabho Sathigur Hai Rakhavaalaa ||
निरभउ सतिगुरु है रखवाला ॥
The Fearless True Guru is our Savior and Protector.
ਭਗਤਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥
Bhagath Paraapath Gur Gopaalaa ||
भगति परापति गुर गोपाला ॥
Devotional worship is obtained through the Guru, the Lord of the world.
ਧੁਨਿ ਅਨੰਦ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਵਾਜੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥
Dhhun Anandh Anaahadh Vaajai Gur Sabadh Niranjan Paaeiaa ||11||
धुनि अनंद अनाहदु वाजै गुर सबदि निरंजनु पाइआ ॥११॥
The blissful music of the unstruck sound current vibrates and resounds; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Immaculate Lord is obtained. ||11||
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸੋ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਲੇਖਾ ॥
Nirabho So Sir Naahee Laekhaa ||
निरभउ सो सिरि नाही लेखा ॥
He alone is fearless, who has no destiny written on His head.
ਆਪਿ ਅਲੇਖੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਹੈ ਦੇਖਾ ॥
Aap Alaekh Kudharath Hai Dhaekhaa ||
आपि अलेखु कुदरति है देखा ॥
God Himself is unseen; He reveals Himself through His wondrous creative power.
ਆਪਿ ਅਤੀਤੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਸੰਭਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥
Aap Atheeth Ajonee Sanbho Naanak Guramath So Paaeiaa ||12||
आपि अतीतु अजोनी स्मभउ नानक गुरमति सो पाइआ ॥१२॥
He Himself is unattached, unborn and self-existent. O Nanak, through the Guru's Teachings, He is found. ||12||
ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
Anthar Kee Gath Sathigur Jaanai ||
अंतर की गति सतिगुरु जाणै ॥
The True Guru knows the state of one's inner being.
ਸੋ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
So Nirabho Gur Sabadh Pashhaanai ||
सो निरभउ गुर सबदि पछाणै ॥
He alone is fearless, who realizes the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਅੰਤਰੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਮਨੁ ਡੋਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥
Anthar Dhaekh Niranthar Boojhai Anath N Man Ddolaaeiaa ||13||
अंतरु देखि निरंतरि बूझै अनत न मनु डोलाइआ ॥१३॥
He looks within his own inner being, and realizes the Lord within all; his mind does not waver at all. ||13||
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸੋ ਅਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ॥
Nirabho So Abh Anthar Vasiaa ||
निरभउ सो अभ अंतरि वसिआ ॥
He alone is fearless, within whose being the Lord abides.
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਰਸਿਆ ॥
Ahinis Naam Niranjan Rasiaa ||
अहिनिसि नामि निरंजन रसिआ ॥
Day and night, he is delighted with the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥
Naanak Har Jas Sangath Paaeeai Har Sehajae Sehaj Milaaeiaa ||14||
नानक हरि जसु संगति पाईऐ हरि सहजे सहजि मिलाइआ ॥१४॥
O Nanak, in the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, the Lord's Praise is obtained, and one easily, intuitively meets the Lord. ||14||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
Anthar Baahar So Prabh Jaanai ||
अंतरि बाहरि सो प्रभु जाणै ॥
One who knows God, within the self and beyond,
ਰਹੈ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਚਲਤੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੈ ॥
Rehai Alipath Chalathae Ghar Aanai ||
रहै अलिपतु चलते घरि आणै ॥
Remains detached, and brings his wandering mind back to its home.
ਊਪਰਿ ਆਦਿ ਸਰਬ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥੪॥੨੧॥
Oopar Aadh Sarab Thihu Loee Sach Naanak Anmrith Ras Paaeiaa ||15||4||21||
ऊपरि आदि सरब तिहु लोई सचु नानक अम्रित रसु पाइआ ॥१५॥४॥२१॥
The True Primal Lord is over all the three worlds; O Nanak, His Ambrosial Nectar is obtained. ||15||4||21||

The Creator Lord is infinite; His creative power is wondrous.
ਕੀਤੇ ਕਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਹੁ ਚਾਰਾ ॥
Keethae Kaa Naahee Kihu Chaaraa ||
कीते का नाही किहु चारा ॥
Created beings have no power over Him.
ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਦੇ ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Jeea Oupaae Rijak Dhae Aapae Sir Sir Hukam Chalaaeiaa ||1||
जीअ उपाइ रिजकु दे आपे सिरि सिरि हुकमु चलाइआ ॥१॥
He formed the living beings, and He Himself sustains them; the Hukam of His Command controls each and every one. ||1||
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਇ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥
Hukam Chalaae Rehiaa Bharapoorae ||
हुकमु चलाइ रहिआ भरपूरे ॥
The all-pervading Lord orchestrates all through His Hukam.
ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਾਂ ਦੂਰੇ ॥
Kis Naerrai Kis Aakhaan Dhoorae ||
किसु नेड़ै किसु आखां दूरे ॥
Who is near, and who is far away?
ਗੁਪਤ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹਰਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਤਾਕੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Gupath Pragatt Har Ghatt Ghatt Dhaekhahu Varathai Thaak Sabaaeiaa ||2||
गुपत प्रगट हरि घटि घटि देखहु वरतै ताकु सबाइआ ॥२॥
Behold the Lord, both hidden and manifest, in each and every heart; the unique Lord is permeating all. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
Jis Ko Maelae Surath Samaaeae ||
जिस कउ मेले सुरति समाए ॥
One whom the Lord unites with Himself, merges in conscious awareness.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
Gur Sabadhee Har Naam Dhhiaaeae ||
गुर सबदी हरि नामु धिआए ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, meditate on the Lord's Name.
ਆਨਦ ਰੂਪ ਅਨੂਪ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਭਰਮੁ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
Aanadh Roop Anoop Agochar Gur Miliai Bharam Jaaeiaa ||3||
आनद रूप अनूप अगोचर गुर मिलिऐ भरमु जाइआ ॥३॥
God is the embodiment of bliss, incomparably beautiful and unfathomable; meeting with the Guru, doubt is dispelled. ||3||
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
Man Than Dhhan Thae Naam Piaaraa ||
मन तन धन ते नामु पिआरा ॥
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is more dear to me than my mind, body and wealth.
ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਚਲਣਵਾਰਾ ॥
Anth Sakhaaee Chalanavaaraa ||
अंति सखाई चलणवारा ॥
In the end, when I must depart, it shall be my only help and support.
