ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Aapae Maelae Dhae Vaddiaaee ||
आपे मेले दे वडिआई ॥
Uniting with Himself, He bestows glorious greatness.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Keemath Paaee ||
गुर परसादी कीमति पाई ॥
By Guru's Grace, one comes to know the Lord's worth.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
Manamukh Bahuth Firai Bilalaadhee Dhoojai Bhaae Khuaaee Hae ||3||
मनमुखि बहुतु फिरै बिललादी दूजै भाइ खुआई हे ॥३॥
The self-willed manmukh wanders everywhere, weeping and wailing; he is utterly ruined by the love of duality. ||3||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚੇ ਪਾਈ ॥
Houmai Maaeiaa Vichae Paaee ||
हउमै माइआ विचे पाई ॥
Egotism was instilled into the illusion of Maya.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
Manamukh Bhoolae Path Gavaaee ||
मनमुख भूले पति गवाई ॥
The self-willed manmukh is deluded, and loses his honor.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਇ ਰਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
Guramukh Hovai So Naae Raachai Saachai Rehiaa Samaaee Hae ||4||
गुरमुखि होवै सो नाइ राचै साचै रहिआ समाई हे ॥४॥
But one who becomes Gurmukh is absorbed in the Name; he remains immersed in the True Lord. ||4||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Gur Thae Giaan Naam Rathan Paaeiaa ||
गुर ते गिआनु नाम रतनु पाइआ ॥
Spiritual wisdom is obtained from the Guru, along with the jewel of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
Manasaa Maar Man Maahi Samaaeiaa ||
मनसा मारि मन माहि समाइआ ॥
Desires are subdued, and one remains immersed in the mind.
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
Aapae Khael Karae Sabh Karathaa Aapae Dhaee Bujhaaee Hae ||5||
आपे खेल करे सभि करता आपे देइ बुझाई हे ॥५॥
The Creator Himself stages all His plays; He Himself bestows understanding. ||5||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
Sathigur Saevae Aap Gavaaeae ||
सतिगुरु सेवे आपु गवाए ॥
One who serves the True Guru eradicates self-conceit.
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Mil Preetham Sabadh Sukh Paaeae ||
मिलि प्रीतम सबदि सुखु पाए ॥
Meeting with his Beloved, he finds peace through the Word of the Shabad.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਤੇ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
Anthar Piaar Bhagathee Raathaa Sehaj Mathae Ban Aaee Hae ||6||
अंतरि पिआरु भगती राता सहजि मते बणि आई हे ॥६॥
Deep within his inner being, he is imbued with loving devotion; intuitively, he becomes one with the Lord. ||6||
ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
Dhookh Nivaaran Gur Thae Jaathaa ||
दूख निवारणु गुर ते जाता ॥
The Destroyer of pain is known through the Guru.
ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
Aap Miliaa Jagajeevan Dhaathaa ||
आपि मिलिआ जगजीवनु दाता ॥
The Great Giver, the Life of the world, Himself has met me.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਭਉ ਭਰਮੁ ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
Jis No Laaeae Soee Boojhai Bho Bharam Sareerahu Jaaee Hae ||7||
जिस नो लाए सोई बूझै भउ भरमु सरीरहु जाई हे ॥७॥
He alone understands, whom the Lord joins with Himself. Fear and doubt are taken away from his body. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ॥
Aapae Guramukh Aapae Dhaevai ||
आपे गुरमुखि आपे देवै ॥
He Himself is the Gurmukh, and He Himself bestows His blessings.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ॥
Sachai Sabadh Sathigur Saevai ||
सचै सबदि सतिगुरु सेवै ॥
Through the True Word of the Shabad, serve the True Guru.
ਜਰਾ ਜਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
Jaraa Jam This Johi N Saakai Saachae Sio Ban Aaee Hae ||8||
जरा जमु तिसु जोहि न साकै साचे सिउ बणि आई हे ॥८॥
Old age and death cannot even touch one who is in harmony with the True Lord. ||8||
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
Thrisanaa Agan Jalai Sansaaraa ||
त्रिसना अगनि जलै संसारा ॥
The world is burning up in the fire of desire.
ਜਲਿ ਜਲਿ ਖਪੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
Jal Jal Khapai Bahuth Vikaaraa ||
जलि जलि खपै बहुतु विकारा ॥
It burns and burns, and is destroyed in all its corruption.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕਬਹੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
Manamukh Thour N Paaeae Kabehoo Sathigur Boojh Bujhaaee Hae ||9||
मनमुखु ठउर न पाए कबहू सतिगुर बूझ बुझाई हे ॥९॥
The self-willed manmukh finds no place of rest anywhere. The True Guru has imparted this understanding. ||9||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
Sathigur Saevan Sae Vaddabhaagee ||
सतिगुरु सेवनि से वडभागी ॥
Those who serve the True Guru are very fortunate.
ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
Saachai Naam Sadhaa Liv Laagee ||
साचै नामि सदा लिव लागी ॥
They remain lovingly focused on the True Name forever.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
Anthar Naam Raviaa Nihakaeval Thrisanaa Sabadh Bujhaaee Hae ||10||
अंतरि नामु रविआ निहकेवलु त्रिसना सबदि बुझाई हे ॥१०॥
The Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord, permeates the nucleus of their inner being; through the Shabad, their desires are quenched. ||10||
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Sachaa Sabadh Sachee Hai Baanee ||
सचा सबदु सची है बाणी ॥
True is the Word of the Shabad, and True is the Bani of His Word.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਪਛਾਣੀ ॥
Guramukh Viralai Kinai Pashhaanee ||
गुरमुखि विरलै किनै पछाणी ॥
How rare is that Gurmukh who realizes this.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
Sachae Sabadh Rathae Bairaagee Aavan Jaan Rehaaee Hae ||11||
सचै सबदि रते बैरागी आवणु जाणु रहाई हे ॥११॥
Those who are imbued with the True Shabad are detached. Their comings and goings in reincarnation are ended. ||11||
ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੋ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
Sabadh Bujhai So Mail Chukaaeae ||
सबदु बुझै सो मैलु चुकाए ॥
One who realizes the Shabad is cleansed of impurities.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
Niramal Naam Vasai Man Aaeae ||
निरमल नामु वसै मनि आए ॥
The Immaculate Naam abides within his mind.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
Sathigur Apanaa Sadh Hee Saevehi Houmai Vichahu Jaaee Hae ||12||
सतिगुरु अपणा सद ही सेवहि हउमै विचहु जाई हे ॥१२॥
He serves his True Guru forever, and egotism is eradicated from within. ||12||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
Gur Thae Boojhai Thaa Dhar Soojhai ||
गुर ते बूझै ता दरु सूझै ॥
If one comes to understand, through the Guru, then he comes to know the Lord's Door.
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਲੂਝੈ ॥
Naam Vihoonaa Kathh Kathh Loojhai ||
नाम विहूणा कथि कथि लूझै ॥
But without the Naam, one babbles and argues in vain.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ਗਵਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
Sathigur Saevae Kee Vaddiaaee Thrisanaa Bhookh Gavaaee Hae ||13||
सतिगुर सेवे की वडिआई त्रिसना भूख गवाई हे ॥१३॥
The glory of serving the True Guru is that it eradicates hunger and thirst. ||13||
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
Aapae Aap Milai Thaa Boojhai ||
आपे आपि मिलै ता बूझै ॥
When the Lord unites them with Himself, then they come to understand.
ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
Giaan Vihoonaa Kishhoo N Soojhai ||
गिआन विहूणा किछू न सूझै ॥
Without spiritual wisdom, they understand nothing at all.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
Gur Kee Dhaath Sadhaa Man Anthar Baanee Sabadh Vajaaee Hae ||14||
गुर की दाति सदा मन अंतरि बाणी सबदि वजाई हे ॥१४॥
One whose mind is filled with the Guru's gift forever - his inner being resounds with the Shabad, and the Word of the Guru's Bani. ||14||
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
Jo Dhhur Likhiaa S Karam Kamaaeiaa ||
जो धुरि लिखिआ सु करम कमाइआ ॥
He acts according to his pre-ordained destiny.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
Koe N Maettai Dhhur Furamaaeiaa ||
कोइ न मेटै धुरि फुरमाइआ ॥
No one can erase the Command of the Primal Lord.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਵਾਸਾ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
Sathasangath Mehi Thin Hee Vaasaa Jin Ko Dhhur Likh Paaee Hae ||15||
सतसंगति महि तिन ही वासा जिन कउ धुरि लिखि पाई हे ॥१५॥
They alone dwell in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, who have such pre-ordained destiny. ||15||
ਅਪਣੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
Apanee Nadhar Karae So Paaeae ||
अपणी नदरि करे सो पाए ॥
He alone finds the Lord, unto whom He grants His Grace.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
Sachai Sabadh Thaarree Chith Laaeae ||
सचै सबदि ताड़ी चितु लाए ॥
He links his consciousness to the deep meditative state of the True Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਰਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥
Naanak Dhaas Kehai Baenanthee Bheekhiaa Naam Dhar Paaee Hae ||16||1||
नानक दासु कहै बेनंती भीखिआ नामु दरि पाई हे ॥१६॥१॥
Nanak, Your slave, offers this humble prayer; I stand at Your Door, begging for Your Name. ||16||1||

एको एकु वरतै सभु सोई ॥
The One and only Lord is pervading and permeating everywhere.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
Guramukh Viralaa Boojhai Koee ||
गुरमुखि विरला बूझै कोई ॥
How rare is that person, who as Gurmukh, understands this.
ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
Eaeko Rav Rehiaa Sabh Anthar This Bin Avar N Koee Hae ||1||
एको रवि रहिआ सभ अंतरि तिसु बिनु अवरु न कोई हे ॥१॥
The One Lord is permeating and pervading, deep within the nucleus of all. Without Him, there is no other at all. ||1||
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
Lakh Chouraaseeh Jeea Oupaaeae ||
लख चउरासीह जीअ उपाए ॥
He created the 8.4 millions species of beings.
