ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ॥
Brehamae Mukh Maaeiaa Hai Thrai Gun ||
ब्रहमे मुखि माइआ है त्रै गुण ॥
Form the mouth of Brahma; they speak of the three gunas, the three qualities of Maya.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋ ਤਿਉ ਬੋਲੇ ਜਿਉ ਬੋਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
Thaa Kee Keemath Kehi N Sakai Ko Thio Bolae Jio Bolaaeidhaa ||9||
ता की कीमति कहि न सकै को तिउ बोले जिउ बोलाइदा ॥९॥
None of them can describe His worth. We speak as He inspires us to speak. ||9||
ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਸਪਤ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
Sunnahu Sapath Paathaal Oupaaeae ||
सुंनहु सपत पाताल उपाए ॥
From the Primal Void, He created the seven nether regions.
ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਭਵਣ ਰਖੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
Sunnahu Bhavan Rakhae Liv Laaeae ||
सुंनहु भवण रखे लिव लाए ॥
From the Primal Void, He established this world to lovingly dwell upon Him.
ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਕੀਆ ਕਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
Aapae Kaaran Keeaa Aparanpar Sabh Thaero Keeaa Kamaaeidhaa ||10||
आपे कारणु कीआ अपर्मपरि सभु तेरो कीआ कमाइदा ॥१०॥
The Infinite Lord Himself created the creation. Everyone acts as You make them act, Lord. ||10||
ਰਜ ਤਮ ਸਤ ਕਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
Raj Tham Sath Kal Thaeree Shhaaeiaa ||
रज तम सत कल तेरी छाइआ ॥
Your Power is diffused through the three gunas: raajas, taamas and satva.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Janam Maran Houmai Dhukh Paaeiaa ||
जनम मरण हउमै दुखु पाइआ ॥
Through egotism, they suffer the pains of birth and death.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣਿ ਚਉਥੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
Jis No Kirapaa Karae Har Guramukh Gun Chouthhai Mukath Karaaeidhaa ||11||
जिस नो क्रिपा करे हरि गुरमुखि गुणि चउथै मुकति कराइदा ॥११॥
Those blessed by His Grace become Gurmukh; they attain the fourth state, and are liberated. ||11||
ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਉਪਜੇ ਦਸ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ ॥
Sunnahu Oupajae Dhas Avathaaraa ||
सुंनहु उपजे दस अवतारा ॥
From the Primal Void, the ten incarnations welled up.
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੀਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
Srisatt Oupaae Keeaa Paasaaraa ||
स्रिसटि उपाइ कीआ पासारा ॥
Creating the Universe, He made the expanse.
ਦੇਵ ਦਾਨਵ ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਸਾਜੇ ਸਭਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
Dhaev Dhaanav Gan Gandhharab Saajae Sabh Likhiaa Karam Kamaaeidhaa ||12||
देव दानव गण गंधरब साजे सभि लिखिआ करम कमाइदा ॥१२॥
He fashioned the demi-gods and demons, the heavenly heralds and celestial musicians; everyone acts according to their past karma. ||12||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਮਝੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
Guramukh Samajhai Rog N Hoee ||
गुरमुखि समझै रोगु न होई ॥
The Gurmukh understands, and does not suffer the disease.
ਇਹ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
Eih Gur Kee Pourree Jaanai Jan Koee ||
इह गुर की पउड़ी जाणै जनु कोई ॥
How rare are those who understand this ladder of the Guru.
ਜੁਗਹ ਜੁਗੰਤਰਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਰਾਇਣ ਸੋ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਇਆ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
Jugeh Juganthar Mukath Paraaein So Mukath Bhaeiaa Path Paaeidhaa ||13||
जुगह जुगंतरि मुकति पराइण सो मुकति भइआ पति पाइदा ॥१३॥
Throughout the ages, they are dedicated to liberation, and so they become liberated; thus they are honored. ||13||
ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
Panch Thath Sunnahu Paragaasaa ||
पंच ततु सुंनहु परगासा ॥
From the Primal Void, the five elements became manifest.
ਦੇਹ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਕਰਮ ਅਭਿਆਸਾ ॥
Dhaeh Sanjogee Karam Abhiaasaa ||
देह संजोगी करम अभिआसा ॥
They joined to form the body, which engages in actions.
ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਦੁਇ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੀਖੇ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਬੀਜਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
Buraa Bhalaa Dhue Masathak Leekhae Paap Punn Beejaaeidhaa ||14||
बुरा भला दुइ मसतकि लीखे पापु पुंनु बीजाइदा ॥१४॥
Both bad and good are written on the forehead, the seeds of vice and virtue. ||14||
ਊਤਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਰਾਲੇ ॥
Ootham Sathigur Purakh Niraalae ||
ऊतम सतिगुर पुरख निराले ॥
The True Guru, the Primal Being, is sublime and detached.
ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਮਤਵਾਲੇ ॥
Sabadh Rathae Har Ras Mathavaalae ||
सबदि रते हरि रसि मतवाले ॥
Attuned to the Word of the Shabad, He is intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਰਿਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
Ridhh Budhh Sidhh Giaan Guroo Thae Paaeeai Poorai Bhaag Milaaeidhaa ||15||
रिधि बुधि सिधि गिआनु गुरू ते पाईऐ पूरै भागि मिलाइदा ॥१५॥
Riches, intellect, miraculous spiritual powers and spiritual wisdom are obtained from the Guru; through perfect destiny, they are received. ||15||
ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਘਨੇਰਾ ॥
Eis Man Maaeiaa Ko Naehu Ghanaeraa ||
इसु मन माइआ कउ नेहु घनेरा ॥
This mind is so in love with Maya.
ਕੋਈ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਰਹੁ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥
Koee Boojhahu Giaanee Karahu Nibaeraa ||
कोई बूझहु गिआनी करहु निबेरा ॥
Only a few are spiritually wise enough to understand and know this.
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਰੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥
Aasaa Manasaa Houmai Sehasaa Nar Lobhee Koorr Kamaaeidhaa ||16||
आसा मनसा हउमै सहसा नरु लोभी कूड़ु कमाइदा ॥१६॥
In hope and desire, egotism and skepticism, the greedy man acts falsely. ||16||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
Sathigur Thae Paaeae Veechaaraa ||
सतिगुर ते पाए वीचारा ॥
From the True Guru, contemplative meditation is obtained.
ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਚੇ ਘਰ ਬਾਰਾ ॥
Sunn Samaadhh Sachae Ghar Baaraa ||
सुंन समाधि सचे घर बारा ॥
And then, one dwells with the True Lord in His celestial home, the Primal State of Absorption in Deepest Samaadhi.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਦੁ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਰਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੭॥੫॥੧੭॥
Naanak Niramal Naadh Sabadh Dhhun Sach Raamai Naam Samaaeidhaa ||17||5||17||
नानक निरमल नादु सबद धुनि सचु रामै नामि समाइदा ॥१७॥५॥१७॥
O Nanak, the immaculate sound current of the Naad, and the Music of the Shabad resound; one merges into the True Name of the Lord. ||17||5||17||

ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
Jeh Dhaekhaa Theh Dheen Dhaeiaalaa ||
जह देखा तह दीन दइआला ॥
Wherever I look, I see the Lord, merciful to the meek.
ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥
Aae N Jaaee Prabh Kirapaalaa ||
आइ न जाई प्रभु किरपाला ॥
God is compassionate; He does not come or go in reincarnation.
ਜੀਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਰਹਿਓ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Jeeaa Andhar Jugath Samaaee Rehiou Niraalam Raaeiaa ||1||
जीआ अंदरि जुगति समाई रहिओ निरालमु राइआ ॥१॥
He pervades all beings in His mysterious way; the Sovereign Lord remains detached. ||1||
ਜਗੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
Jag This Kee Shhaaeiaa Jis Baap N Maaeiaa ||
जगु तिस की छाइआ जिसु बापु न माइआ ॥
The world is a reflection of Him; He has no father or mother.
ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭੈਣ ਨ ਭਰਾਉ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
Naa This Bhain N Bharaao Kamaaeiaa ||
ना तिसु भैण न भराउ कमाइआ ॥
He has not acquired any sister or brother.
ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਓਪਤਿ ਖਪਤਿ ਕੁਲ ਜਾਤੀ ਓਹੁ ਅਜਰਾਵਰੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Naa This Oupath Khapath Kul Jaathee Ouhu Ajaraavar Man Bhaaeiaa ||2||
ना तिसु ओपति खपति कुल जाती ओहु अजरावरु मनि भाइआ ॥२॥
There is no creation or destruction for Him; He has no ancestry or social status. The Ageless Lord is pleasing to my mind. ||2||
ਤੂ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਲਾ ॥
Thoo Akaal Purakh Naahee Sir Kaalaa ||
तू अकाल पुरखु नाही सिरि काला ॥
You are the Deathless Primal Being. Death does not hover over Your head.
ਤੂ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਲੇਖ ਅਗੰਮ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥
Thoo Purakh Alaekh Aganm Niraalaa ||
तू पुरखु अलेख अगम निराला ॥
You are the unseen inaccessible and detached Primal Lord.
ਸਤ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਤਿ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
Sath Santhokh Sabadh Ath Seethal Sehaj Bhaae Liv Laaeiaa ||3||
सत संतोखि सबदि अति सीतलु सहज भाइ लिव लाइआ ॥३॥
You are true and content; the Word of Your Shabad is cool and soothing. Through it, we are lovingly, intuitively attuned to You. ||3||
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਵਰਤਾਇ ਚਉਥੈ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
Thrai Varathaae Chouthhai Ghar Vaasaa ||
त्रै वरताइ चउथै घरि वासा ॥
The three qualities are pervasive; the Lord dwells in His home, the fourth state.
ਕਾਲ ਬਿਕਾਲ ਕੀਏ ਇਕ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਾ ॥
Kaal Bikaal Keeeae Eik Graasaa ||
काल बिकाल कीए इक ग्रासा ॥
He has made death and birth into a bite of food.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰਬ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
Niramal Joth Sarab Jagajeevan Gur Anehadh Sabadh Dhikhaaeiaa ||4||
निरमल जोति सरब जगजीवनु गुरि अनहद सबदि दिखाइआ ॥४॥
The immaculate Light is the Life of the whole world. The Guru reveals the unstruck melody of the Shabad. ||4||
ਊਤਮ ਜਨ ਸੰਤ ਭਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
Ootham Jan Santh Bhalae Har Piaarae ||
ऊतम जन संत भले हरि पिआरे ॥
Sublime and good are those humble Saints, the Beloveds of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥
Har Ras Maathae Paar Outhaarae ||
हरि रस माते पारि उतारे ॥
They are intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord, and are carried across to the other side.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੇਣ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
Naanak Raen Santh Jan Sangath Har Gur Parasaadhee Paaeiaa ||5||
नानक रेण संत जन संगति हरि गुर परसादी पाइआ ॥५॥
Nanak is the dust of the Society of the Saints; by Guru's Grace, he finds the Lord. ||5||
ਤੂ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜੀਅ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
Thoo Antharajaamee Jeea Sabh Thaerae ||
तू अंतरजामी जीअ सभि तेरे ॥
You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. All beings belong to You.
