ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
Giaanee Dhhiaanee Aakh Sunaaeae ||
गिआनी धिआनी आखि सुणाए ॥
The spiritual teachers and meditators proclaim this.
ਸਭਨਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸਮਾਹੇ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਹੋਰ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
Sabhanaa Rijak Samaahae Aapae Keemath Hor N Hoee Hae ||2||
सभना रिजकु समाहे आपे कीमति होर न होई हे ॥२॥
He Himself nourishes all; no one else can estimate His value. ||2||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohu Andhh Andhhaaraa ||
माइआ मोहु अंधु अंधारा ॥
Love and attachment to Maya are utter darkness.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
Houmai Maeraa Pasariaa Paasaaraa ||
हउमै मेरा पसरिआ पासारा ॥
Egotism and possessiveness have spread throughout the expanse of the universe.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
Anadhin Jalath Rehai Dhin Raathee Gur Bin Saanth N Hoee Hae ||3||
अनदिनु जलत रहै दिनु राती गुर बिनु सांति न होई हे ॥३॥
Night and day, they burn, day and night; without the Guru, there is no peace or tranquility. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਆਪੇ ॥
Aapae Jorr Vishhorrae Aapae ||
आपे जोड़ि विछोड़े आपे ॥
He Himself unites, and He Himself separates.
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਆਪੇ ॥
Aapae Thhaap Outhhaapae Aapae ||
आपे थापि उथापे आपे ॥
He Himself establishes, and He Himself disestablishes.
ਸਚਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ਹੋਰਨਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
Sachaa Hukam Sachaa Paasaaraa Horan Hukam N Hoee Hae ||4||
सचा हुकमु सचा पासारा होरनि हुकमु न होई हे ॥४॥
True is the Hukam of His Command, and True is the expanse of His universe. No one else can issue any Command. ||4||
ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
Aapae Laae Leae So Laagai ||
आपे लाइ लए सो लागै ॥
He alone is attached to the Lord, whom the Lord attaches to Himself.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Jam Kaa Bho Bhaagai ||
गुर परसादी जम का भउ भागै ॥
By Guru's Grace, the fear of death runs away.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
Anthar Sabadh Sadhaa Sukhadhaathaa Guramukh Boojhai Koee Hae ||5||
अंतरि सबदु सदा सुखदाता गुरमुखि बूझै कोई हे ॥५॥
The Shabad, the Giver of peace, dwells forever deep within the nucleus of the self. One who is Gurmukh understands. ||5||
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
Aapae Maelae Mael Milaaeae ||
आपे मेले मेलि मिलाए ॥
God Himself unites those united in His Union.
ਪੁਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥
Purab Likhiaa So Maettanaa N Jaaeae ||
पुरबि लिखिआ सो मेटणा न जाए ॥
Whatever is pre-ordained by destiny, cannot be erased.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
Anadhin Bhagath Karae Dhin Raathee Guramukh Saevaa Hoee Hae ||6||
अनदिनु भगति करे दिनु राती गुरमुखि सेवा होई हे ॥६॥
Night and day, His devotees worship Him, day and night; one who becomes Gurmukh serves Him. ||6||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
Sathigur Saev Sadhaa Sukh Jaathaa ||
सतिगुरु सेवि सदा सुखु जाता ॥
Serving the True Guru, lasting peace is experienced.
ਆਪੇ ਆਇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
Aapae Aae Miliaa Sabhanaa Kaa Dhaathaa ||
आपे आइ मिलिआ सभना का दाता ॥
He Himself, the Giver of all, has come and met me.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
Houmai Maar Thrisanaa Agan Nivaaree Sabadh Cheen Sukh Hoee Hae ||7||
हउमै मारि त्रिसना अगनि निवारी सबदु चीनि सुखु होई हे ॥७॥
Subduing egotism, the fire of thirst has been extinguished; contemplating the Word of the Shabad, peace is found. ||7||
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
Kaaeiaa Kuttanb Mohu N Boojhai ||
काइआ कुट्मबु मोहु न बूझै ॥
One who is attached to his body and family, does not understand.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤ ਆਖੀ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
Guramukh Hovai Th Aakhee Soojhai ||
गुरमुखि होवै त आखी सूझै ॥
But one who becomes Gurmukh, sees the Lord with his eyes.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
Anadhin Naam Ravai Dhin Raathee Mil Preetham Sukh Hoee Hae ||8||
अनदिनु नामु रवै दिनु राती मिलि प्रीतम सुखु होई हे ॥८॥
Night and day, he chants the Naam, day and night; meeting with his Beloved, he finds peace. ||8||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਧਾਤੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਹੈ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
Manamukh Dhhaath Dhoojai Hai Laagaa ||
मनमुख धातु दूजै है लागा ॥
The self-willed manmukh wanders distracted, attached to duality.
ਜਨਮਤ ਕੀ ਨ ਮੂਓ ਆਭਾਗਾ ॥
Janamath Kee N Mooou Aabhaagaa ||
जनमत की न मूओ आभागा ॥
That unfortunate wretch - why didn't he just die as soon as he was born?
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
Aavath Jaath Birathhaa Janam Gavaaeiaa Bin Gur Mukath N Hoee Hae ||9||
आवत जात बिरथा जनमु गवाइआ बिनु गुर मुकति न होई हे ॥९॥
Coming and going, he wastes away his life in vain. Without the Guru, liberation is not obtained. ||9||
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੁਸੁਧ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਈ ॥
Kaaeiaa Kusudhh Houmai Mal Laaee ||
काइआ कुसुध हउमै मलु लाई ॥
That body which is stained with the filth of egotism is false and impure.
ਜੇ ਸਉ ਧੋਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
Jae So Dhhovehi Thaa Mail N Jaaee ||
जे सउ धोवहि ता मैलु न जाई ॥
It may be washed a hundred times, but its filth is still not removed.
ਸਬਦਿ ਧੋਪੈ ਤਾ ਹਛੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੀ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
Sabadh Dhhopai Thaa Hashhee Hovai Fir Mailee Mool N Hoee Hae ||10||
सबदि धोपै ता हछी होवै फिरि मैली मूलि न होई हे ॥१०॥
But if it is washed with the Word of the Shabad, then it is truly cleansed, and it shall never be soiled again. ||10||
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਕਾਇਆ ਸੰਘਾਰਹਿ ॥
Panch Dhooth Kaaeiaa Sanghaarehi ||
पंच दूत काइआ संघारहि ॥
The five demons destroy the body.
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ॥
Mar Mar Janmehi Sabadh N Veechaarehi ||
मरि मरि जमहि सबदु न वीचारहि ॥
He dies and dies again, only to be reincarnated; he does not contemplate the Shabad.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ਜਿਉ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
Anthar Maaeiaa Moh Gubaaraa Jio Supanai Sudhh N Hoee Hae ||11||
अंतरि माइआ मोह गुबारा जिउ सुपनै सुधि न होई हे ॥११॥
The darkness of emotional attachment to Maya is within his inner being; as if in a dream, he does not understand. ||11||
ਇਕਿ ਪੰਚਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਹੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
Eik Panchaa Maar Sabadh Hai Laagae ||
इकि पंचा मारि सबदि है लागे ॥
Some conquer the five demons, by being attached to the Shabad.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥
Sathigur Aae Miliaa Vaddabhaagae ||
सतिगुरु आइ मिलिआ वडभागे ॥
They are blessed and very fortunate; the True Guru comes to meet them.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਵਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
Anthar Saach Ravehi Rang Raathae Sehaj Samaavai Soee Hae ||12||
अंतरि साचु रवहि रंगि राते सहजि समावै सोई हे ॥१२॥
Within the nucleus of their inner being, they dwell upon the Truth; attuned to the Lord's Love, they intuitively merge in Him. ||12||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
Gur Kee Chaal Guroo Thae Jaapai ||
गुर की चाल गुरू ते जापै ॥
The Guru's Way is known through the Guru.
ਪੂਰਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ॥
Pooraa Saevak Sabadh Sinjaapai ||
पूरा सेवकु सबदि सिञापै ॥
His perfect servant attains realization through the Shabad.
ਸਦਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਵੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
Sadhaa Sabadh Ravai Ghatt Anthar Rasanaa Ras Chaakhai Sach Soee Hae ||13||
सदा सबदु रवै घट अंतरि रसना रसु चाखै सचु सोई हे ॥१३॥
Deep within his heart, he dwells forever upon the Shabad; he tastes the sublime essence of the True Lord with his tongue. ||13||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
Houmai Maarae Sabadh Nivaarae ||
हउमै मारे सबदि निवारे ॥
Egotism is conquered and subdued by the Shabad.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Rakhai Our Dhhaarae ||
हरि का नामु रखै उरि धारे ॥
I have enshrined the Name of the Lord within my heart.
ਏਕਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਉ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
Eaekas Bin Ho Hor N Jaanaa Sehajae Hoe S Hoee Hae ||14||
एकसु बिनु हउ होरु न जाणा सहजे होइ सु होई हे ॥१४॥
Other than the One Lord, I know nothing at all. Whatever will be, will automatically be. ||14||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਹਜੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Bin Sathigur Sehaj Kinai Nehee Paaeiaa ||
बिनु सतिगुर सहजु किनै नही पाइआ ॥
Without the True Guru, no one obtains intuitive wisdom.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
Guramukh Boojhai Sach Samaaeiaa ||
गुरमुखि बूझै सचि समाइआ ॥
The Gurmukh understands, and is immersed in the True Lord.
ਸਚਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਖੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
Sachaa Saev Sabadh Sach Raathae Houmai Sabadhae Khoee Hae ||15||
सचा सेवि सबदि सच राते हउमै सबदे खोई हे ॥१५॥
He serves the True Lord, and is attuned to the True Shabad. The Shabad banishes egotism. ||15||
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
Aapae Gunadhaathaa Beechaaree ||
आपे गुणदाता बीचारी ॥
He Himself is the Giver of virtue, the Contemplative Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਪਕੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
Guramukh Dhaevehi Pakee Saaree ||
गुरमुखि देवहि पकी सारी ॥
The Gurmukh is given the winning dice.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਤੇ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੨॥
Naanak Naam Samaavehi Saachai Saachae Thae Path Hoee Hae ||16||2||
नानक नामि समावहि साचै साचे ते पति होई हे ॥१६॥२॥
O Nanak, immersed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one becomes true; from the True Lord, honor is obtained. ||16||2||

Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ॥

जगजीवनु साचा एको दाता ॥
One One True Lord is the Life of the World, the Great Giver.
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
Gur Saevaa Thae Sabadh Pashhaathaa ||
गुर सेवा ते सबदि पछाता ॥
Serving the Guru, through the Word of the Shabad, He is realized.
