माझ महला ५ ॥
Maajh, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਫਲ ਸੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
Safal S Baanee Jith Naam Vakhaanee ||
सफल सु बाणी जितु नामु वखाणी ॥
Blessed are those words, by which the Naam is chanted.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
Gur Parasaadh Kinai Viralai Jaanee ||
गुर परसादि किनै विरलै जाणी ॥
Rare are those who know this, by Guru's Grace.
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਵਤ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਆਏ ਤੇ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
Dhhann S Vaelaa Jith Har Gaavath Sunanaa Aaeae Thae Paravaanaa Jeeo ||1||
धंनु सु वेला जितु हरि गावत सुनणा आए ते परवाना जीउ ॥१॥
Blessed is that time when one sings and hears the Lord's Name. Blessed and approved is the coming of such a one. ||1||
ਸੇ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਾ ॥
Sae Naethr Paravaan Jinee Dharasan Paekhaa ||
से नेत्र परवाणु जिनी दरसनु पेखा ॥
Those eyes which behold the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan are approved and accepted.
ਸੇ ਕਰ ਭਲੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਲੇਖਾ ॥
Sae Kar Bhalae Jinee Har Jas Laekhaa ||
से कर भले जिनी हरि जसु लेखा ॥
Those hands which write the Praises of the Lord are good.
ਸੇ ਚਰਣ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਲੇ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਤਿਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਛਾਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
Sae Charan Suhaavae Jo Har Maarag Chalae Ho Bal Thin Sang Pashhaanaa Jeeo ||2||
से चरण सुहावे जो हरि मारगि चले हउ बलि तिन संगि पछाणा जीउ ॥२॥
Those feet which walk in the Lord's Way are beautiful. I am a sacrifice to that Congregation in which the Lord is recognized. ||2||
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਜਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
Sun Saajan Maerae Meeth Piaarae ||
सुणि साजन मेरे मीत पिआरे ॥
Listen, O my beloved friends and companions:
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥
Saadhhasang Khin Maahi Oudhhaarae ||
साधसंगि खिन माहि उधारे ॥
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall be saved in an instant.
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟਿ ਹੋਆ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਏ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
Kilavikh Kaatt Hoaa Man Niramal Mitt Geae Aavan Jaanaa Jeeo ||3||
किलविख काटि होआ मनु निरमलु मिटि गए आवण जाणा जीउ ॥३॥
Your sins will be cut out; your mind will be immaculate and pure. Your comings and goings shall cease. ||3||
ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਇਕੁ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
Dhue Kar Jorr Eik Bino Kareejai ||
दुइ कर जोड़ि इकु बिनउ करीजै ॥
With my palms pressed together, I offer this prayer:
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਪਥਰੁ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Ddubadhaa Pathhar Leejai ||
करि किरपा डुबदा पथरु लीजै ॥
Please bless me with Your Mercy, and save this sinking stone.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੨੯॥
Naanak Ko Prabh Bheae Kirapaalaa Prabh Naanak Man Bhaanaa Jeeo ||4||22||29||
नानक कउ प्रभ भए क्रिपाला प्रभ नानक मनि भाणा जीउ ॥४॥२२॥२९॥
God has become merciful to Nanak; God is pleasing to Nanak's mind. ||4||22||29||

Maajh, Fifth Mehl:
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
Anmrith Baanee Har Har Thaeree ||
अम्रित बाणी हरि हरि तेरी ॥
The Word of Your Bani, Lord, is Ambrosial Nectar.
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ॥
Sun Sun Hovai Param Gath Maeree ||
सुणि सुणि होवै परम गति मेरी ॥
Hearing it again and again, I am elevated to the supreme heights.
ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਮਨੂਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
Jalan Bujhee Seethal Hoe Manooaa Sathigur Kaa Dharasan Paaeae Jeeo ||1||
जलनि बुझी सीतलु होइ मनूआ सतिगुर का दरसनु पाए जीउ ॥१॥
The burning within me has been extinguished, and my mind has been cooled and soothed, by the Blessed Vision of the True Guru. ||1||
ਸੂਖੁ ਭਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥
Sookh Bhaeiaa Dhukh Dhoor Paraanaa ||
सूखु भइआ दुखु दूरि पराना ॥
Happiness is obtained, and sorrow runs far away,
ਸੰਤ ਰਸਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਨਾ ॥
Santh Rasan Har Naam Vakhaanaa ||
संत रसन हरि नामु वखाना ॥
When the Saints chant the Lord's Name.
ਜਲ ਥਲ ਨੀਰਿ ਭਰੇ ਸਰ ਸੁਭਰ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
Jal Thhal Neer Bharae Sar Subhar Birathhaa Koe N Jaaeae Jeeo ||2||
जल थल नीरि भरे सर सुभर बिरथा कोइ न जाए जीउ ॥२॥
The sea, the dry land, and the lakes are filled with the Water of the Lord's Name; no place is left empty. ||2||
ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
Dhaeiaa Dhhaaree Thin Sirajanehaarae ||
दइआ धारी तिनि सिरजनहारे ॥
The Creator has showered His Kindness;
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਗਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੇ ॥
Jeea Janth Sagalae Prathipaarae ||
जीअ जंत सगले प्रतिपारे ॥
He cherishes and nurtures all beings and creatures.
ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਸਗਲੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
Miharavaan Kirapaal Dhaeiaalaa Sagalae Thripath Aghaaeae Jeeo ||3||
मिहरवान किरपाल दइआला सगले त्रिपति अघाए जीउ ॥३॥
He is Merciful, Kind and Compassionate. All are satisfied and fulfilled through Him. ||3||
ਵਣੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਣੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ॥
Van Thrin Thribhavan Keethon Hariaa ||
वणु त्रिणु त्रिभवणु कीतोनु हरिआ ॥
The woods, the meadows and the three worlds are rendered green.
ਕਰਣਹਾਰਿ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਕਰਿਆ ॥
Karanehaar Khin Bheethar Kariaa ||
करणहारि खिन भीतरि करिआ ॥
The Doer of all did this in an instant.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੈ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਪੁਜਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੨੩॥੩੦॥
Guramukh Naanak Thisai Araadhhae Man Kee Aas Pujaaeae Jeeo ||4||23||30||
गुरमुखि नानक तिसै अराधे मन की आस पुजाए जीउ ॥४॥२३॥३०॥
As Gurmukh, Nanak meditates on the One who fulfills the desires of the mind. ||4||23||30||

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
Thoon Maeraa Pithaa Thoonhai Maeraa Maathaa ||
तूं मेरा पिता तूंहै मेरा माता ॥
You are my Father, and You are my Mother.
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਬੰਧਪੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ॥
Thoon Maeraa Bandhhap Thoon Maeraa Bhraathaa ||
तूं मेरा बंधपु तूं मेरा भ्राता ॥
You are my Relative, and You are my Brother.
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ਤਾ ਭਉ ਕੇਹਾ ਕਾੜਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
Thoon Maeraa Raakhaa Sabhanee Thhaaee Thaa Bho Kaehaa Kaarraa Jeeo ||1||
तूं मेरा राखा सभनी थाई ता भउ केहा काड़ा जीउ ॥१॥
You are my Protector everywhere; why should I feel any fear or anxiety? ||1||
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ॥
Thumaree Kirapaa Thae Thudhh Pashhaanaa ||
तुमरी क्रिपा ते तुधु पछाणा ॥
By Your Grace, I recognize You.
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਣਾ ॥
Thoon Maeree Outt Thoonhai Maeraa Maanaa ||
तूं मेरी ओट तूंहै मेरा माणा ॥
You are my Shelter, and You are my Honor.
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਖੇਲੁ ਅਖਾੜਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
Thujh Bin Dhoojaa Avar N Koee Sabh Thaeraa Khael Akhaarraa Jeeo ||2||
तुझ बिनु दूजा अवरु न कोई सभु तेरा खेलु अखाड़ा जीउ ॥२॥
Without You, there is no other; the entire Universe is the Arena of Your Play. ||2||
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
Jeea Janth Sabh Thudhh Oupaaeae ||
जीअ जंत सभि तुधु उपाए ॥
You have created all beings and creatures.
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
Jith Jith Bhaanaa Thith Thith Laaeae ||
जितु जितु भाणा तितु तितु लाए ॥
As it pleases You, You assign tasks to one and all.
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਅਸਾੜਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
Sabh Kishh Keethaa Thaeraa Hovai Naahee Kishh Asaarraa Jeeo ||3||
सभ किछु कीता तेरा होवै नाही किछु असाड़ा जीउ ॥३॥
All things are Your Doing; we can do nothing ourselves. ||3||
ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Naam Dhhiaae Mehaa Sukh Paaeiaa ||
नामु धिआइ महा सुखु पाइआ ॥
Meditating on the Naam, I have found great peace.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲਾਇਆ ॥
Har Gun Gaae Maeraa Man Seethalaaeiaa ||
हरि गुण गाइ मेरा मनु सीतलाइआ ॥
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, my mind is cooled and soothed.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਤਾ ਬਿਖਾੜਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੨੪॥੩੧॥
Gur Poorai Vajee Vaadhhaaee Naanak Jithaa Bikhaarraa Jeeo ||4||24||31||
गुरि पूरै वजी वाधाई नानक जिता बिखाड़ा जीउ ॥४॥२४॥३१॥
Through the Perfect Guru, congratulations are pouring in-Nanak is victorious on the arduous battlefield of life! ||4||24||31||

God is the Breath of Life of my soul, the Support of my mind.
ਭਗਤ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Bhagath Jeevehi Gun Gaae Apaaraa ||
भगत जीवहि गुण गाइ अपारा ॥
His devotees live by singing the Glorious Praises of the Infinite Lord.
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
Gun Nidhhaan Anmrith Har Naamaa Har Dhhiaae Dhhiaae Sukh Paaeiaa Jeeo ||1||
गुण निधान अम्रितु हरि नामा हरि धिआइ धिआइ सुखु पाइआ जीउ ॥१॥
The Ambrosial Name of the Lord is the Treasure of Excellence. Meditating, meditating on the Lord's Name, I have found peace. ||1||
ਮਨਸਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਜੋ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਆਵੈ ॥
Manasaa Dhhaar Jo Ghar Thae Aavai ||
