वखतु वीचारे सु बंदा होइ ॥
One who reflects upon his allotted span of life, becomes the slave of God.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਹੈ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
Kudharath Hai Keemath Nehee Paae ||
कुदरति है कीमति नही पाइ ॥
The value of the Creative Power of the Universe cannot be known.
ਜਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਤ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Jaa Keemath Paae Th Kehee N Jaae ||
जा कीमति पाइ त कही न जाइ ॥
Even if its value were known, it could not be described.
ਸਰੈ ਸਰੀਅਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Sarai Sareeath Karehi Beechaar ||
सरै सरीअति करहि बीचारु ॥
Some think about religious rituals and regulations,
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪਾਰੁ ॥
Bin Boojhae Kaisae Paavehi Paar ||
बिनु बूझे कैसे पावहि पारु ॥
But without understanding, how can they cross over to the other side?
ਸਿਦਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਿਜਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਖਸੂਦੁ ॥
Sidhak Kar Sijadhaa Man Kar Makhasoodh ||
सिदकु करि सिजदा मनु करि मखसूदु ॥
Let sincere faith be your bowing in prayer, and let the conquest of your mind be your objective in life.
ਜਿਹ ਧਿਰਿ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਿਹ ਧਿਰਿ ਮਉਜੂਦੁ ॥੧॥
Jih Dhhir Dhaekhaa Thih Dhhir Moujoodh ||1||
जिह धिरि देखा तिह धिरि मउजूदु ॥१॥
Wherever I look, there I see God's Presence. ||1||

Gur Sabhaa Eaev N Paaeeai Naa Naerrai Naa Dhoor ||
गुर सभा एव न पाईऐ ना नेड़ै ना दूरि ॥
The Society of the Guru is not obtained like this, by trying to be near or far away.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੨॥

सपत दीप सपत सागरा नव खंड चारि वेद दस असट पुराणा ॥
The seven islands, seven seas, nine continents, four Vedas and eighteen Puraanas
ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੂੰ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
Har Sabhanaa Vich Thoon Varathadhaa Har Sabhanaa Bhaanaa ||
हरि सभना विचि तूं वरतदा हरि सभना भाणा ॥
O Lord, You pervade and permeate all. Lord, everyone loves You.
ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝੈ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਰਗ ਪਾਣਾ ॥

सभि तुझै धिआवहि जीअ जंत हरि सारग पाणा ॥
All beings and creatures meditate on You, Lord. You hold the earth in Your Hands.
ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਦੇ ਤਿਨ ਹਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ ॥
Jo Guramukh Har Aaraadhhadhae Thin Ho Kurabaanaa ||
जो गुरमुखि हरि आराधदे तिन हउ कुरबाणा ॥
I am a sacrifice to those Gurmukhs who worship and adore the Lord.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣਾ ॥੪॥
Thoon Aapae Aap Varathadhaa Kar Choj Viddaanaa ||4||
तूं आपे आपि वरतदा करि चोज विडाणा ॥४॥
You Yourself are All-pervading; You stage this wondrous drama! ||4||

Kalo Masaajanee Kiaa Sadhaaeeai Hiradhai Hee Likh Laehu ||
गुर सभा एव न पाईऐ ना नेड़ै ना दूरि ॥
Why ask for a pen, and why ask for ink? Write within your heart.
ਸਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਹੈ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਤੂਟਸਿ ਨੇਹੁ ॥
Sadhaa Saahib Kai Rang Rehai Kabehoon N Thoottas Naehu ||
सदा साहिब कै रंगि रहै कबहूं न तूटसि नेहु ॥
Remain immersed forever in the Love of your Lord and Master, and your love for Him shall never break.
ਕਲਉ ਮਸਾਜਨੀ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਭੀ ਨਾਲੇ ਜਾਇ ॥
Kalo Masaajanee Jaaeisee Likhiaa Bhee Naalae Jaae ||
कलउ मसाजनी जाइसी लिखिआ भी नाले जाइ ॥
Pen and ink shall pass away, along with what has been written.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸਚੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
Naanak Seh Preeth N Jaaeisee Jo Dhhur Shhoddee Sachai Paae ||1||
नानक सह प्रीति न जाइसी जो धुरि छोडी सचै पाइ ॥१॥
O Nanak, the Love of your Husband Lord shall never perish. The True Lord has bestowed it, as it was pre-ordained. ||1||

Nadharee Aavadhaa Naal N Chalee Vaekhahu Ko Vioupaae ||
नदरी आवदा नालि न चलई वेखहु को विउपाइ ॥
That which is seen, shall not go along with you. What does it take to make you see this?
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਸਚਿ ਰਹਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
Sathigur Sach Dhrirraaeiaa Sach Rehahu Liv Laae ||
सतिगुरि सचु द्रिड़ाइआ सचि रहहु लिव लाइ ॥
The True Guru has implanted the True Name within; remain lovingly absorbed in the True One.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥

Har Andhar Baahar Eik Thoon Thoon Jaanehi Bhaeth ||
हरि अंदरि बाहरि इकु तूं तूं जाणहि भेतु ॥
O Lord, You are inside and outside as well. You are the Knower of secrets.
ਜੋ ਕੀਚੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤੁ ॥
Jo Keechai So Har Jaanadhaa Maerae Man Har Chaeth ||
जो कीचै सो हरि जाणदा मेरे मन हरि चेतु ॥
Whatever anyone does, the Lord knows. O my mind, think of the Lord.
ਸੋ ਡਰੈ ਜਿ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਵਦਾ ਧਰਮੀ ਵਿਗਸੇਤੁ ॥
So Ddarai J Paap Kamaavadhaa Dhharamee Vigasaeth ||
सो डरै जि पाप कमावदा धरमी विगसेतु ॥
The one who commits sins lives in fear, while the one who lives righteously rejoices.
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਆਉ ਸਚੁ ਤਾ ਡਰੀਐ ਕੇਤੁ ॥
Thoon Sachaa Aap Niaao Sach Thaa Ddareeai Kaeth ||
तूं सचा आपि निआउ सचु ता डरीऐ केतु ॥
O Lord, You Yourself are True, and True is Your Justice. Why should anyone be afraid?
ਜਿਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਲੇਤੁ ॥੫॥
Jinaa Naanak Sach Pashhaaniaa Sae Sach Ralaeth ||5||
जिना नानक सचु पछाणिआ से सचि रलेतु ॥५॥
O Nanak, those who recognize the True Lord are blended with the True One. ||5||

Kalam Jalo San Masavaaneeai Kaagadh Bhee Jal Jaao ||
कलम जलउ सणु मसवाणीऐ कागदु भी जलि जाउ ॥
Burn the pen, and burn the ink; burn the paper as well.
ਲਿਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ॥
Likhan Vaalaa Jal Balo Jin Likhiaa Dhoojaa Bhaao ||
लिखण वाला जलि बलउ जिनि लिखिआ दूजा भाउ ॥
Burn the writer who writes in the love of duality.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
Naanak Poorab Likhiaa Kamaavanaa Avar N Karanaa Jaae ||1||
नानक पूरबि लिखिआ कमावणा अवरु न करणा जाइ ॥१॥
O Nanak, people do what is pre-ordained; they cannot do anything else. ||1||

होरु कूड़ु पड़णा कूड़ु बोलणा माइआ नालि पिआरु ॥
False is other reading, and false is other speaking, in the love of Maya.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
Naanak Vin Naavai Ko Thhir Nehee Parr Parr Hoe Khuaar ||2||
नानक विणु नावै को थिरु नही पड़ि पड़ि होइ खुआरु ॥२॥
O Nanak, without the Name, nothing is permanent; those who read and read are ruined. ||2||

Great is the Greatness of the Lord, and the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਹੈ ਧਰਮ ਕਾ ॥
Har Kee Vaddiaaee Vaddee Hai Jaa Niaao Hai Dhharam Kaa ||
हरि की वडिआई वडी है जा निआउ है धरम का ॥
Great is the Greatness of the Lord; His Justice is totally Righteous.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ॥
Har Kee Vaddiaaee Vaddee Hai Jaa Fal Hai Jeea Kaa ||
हरि की वडिआई वडी है जा फलु है जीअ का ॥
Great is the Greatness of the Lord; people receive the fruits of the soul.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਨ ਸੁਣਈ ਕਹਿਆ ਚੁਗਲ ਕਾ ॥
Har Kee Vaddiaaee Vaddee Hai Jaa N Sunee Kehiaa Chugal Kaa ||
हरि की वडिआई वडी है जा न सुणई कहिआ चुगल का ॥
Great is the Greatness of the Lord; He does not hear the words of the back-biters.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਅਪੁਛਿਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਵਕਾ ॥੬॥
Har Kee Vaddiaaee Vaddee Hai Apushhiaa Dhaan Dhaevakaa ||6||
हरि की वडिआई वडी है अपुछिआ दानु देवका ॥६॥
Great is the Greatness of the Lord; He gives His Gifts without being asked. ||6||

ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੀ ਸਭ ਮੁਈ ਸੰਪਉ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
Ho Ho Karathee Sabh Muee Sanpo Kisai N Naal ||
हउ हउ करती सभ मुई स्मपउ किसै न नालि ॥
Those who act in ego shall all die. Their worldly possessions shall not go along with them.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਜੋਹੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Dhukh Paaeiaa Sabh Johee Jamakaal ||
दूजै भाइ दुखु पाइआ सभ जोही जमकालि ॥
Because of their love of duality, they suffer in pain. The Messenger of Death is watching all.
