Eihu Dhhan Sanpai Maaeiaa Jhoothee Anth Shhodd Chaliaa Pashhuthaaee ||
इहु धनु स्मपै माइआ झूठी अंति छोडि चलिआ पछुताई ॥
This wealth, property and Maya are false. In the end, you must leave these, and depart in sorrow.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
Jis No Kirapaa Karae Gur Maelae So Har Har Naam Samaal ||
जिस नो किरपा करे गुरु मेले सो हरि हरि नामु समालि ॥
Those whom the Lord, in His Mercy, unites with the Guru, reflect upon the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

चउथै पहरै रैणि कै वणजारिआ मित्रा हरि चलण वेला आदी ॥
In the fourth watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the Lord announces the time of departure.

करि सेवहु पूरा सतिगुरू वणजारिआ मित्रा सभ चली रैणि विहादी ॥

हरि सेवहु खिनु खिनु ढिल मूलि न करिहु जितु असथिरु जुगु जुगु होवहु ॥

पहिलै पहरै रैणि कै वणजारिआ मित्रा धरि पाइता उदरै माहि ॥
In the first watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the Lord placed your soul in the womb.
ਦਸੀ ਮਾਸੀ ਮਾਨਸੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
Dhasee Maasee Maanas Keeaa Vanajaariaa Mithraa Kar Muhalath Karam Kamaahi ||
दसी मासी मानसु कीआ वणजारिआ मित्रा करि मुहलति करम कमाहि ॥
In the tenth month, you were made into a human being, O my merchant friend, and you were given your allotted time to perform good deeds.
ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਜੈਸਾ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Muhalath Kar Dheenee Karam Kamaanae Jaisaa Likhath Dhhur Paaeiaa ||
मुहलति करि दीनी करम कमाणे जैसा लिखतु धुरि पाइआ ॥
You were given this time to perform good deeds, according to your pre-ordained destiny.
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਤਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੰਜੋਇਆ ॥
Maath Pithaa Bhaaee Suth Banithaa Thin Bheethar Prabhoo Sanjoeiaa ||
मात पिता भाई सुत बनिता तिन भीतरि प्रभू संजोइआ ॥
God placed you with your mother, father, brothers, sons and wife.
ਕਰਮ ਸੁਕਰਮ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਇਸੁ ਜੰਤੈ ਵਸਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Karam Sukaram Karaaeae Aapae Eis Janthai Vas Kishh Naahi ||
करम सुकरम कराए आपे इसु जंतै वसि किछु नाहि ॥
God Himself is the Cause of causes, good and bad-no one has control over these things.

In the second watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the fullness of youth rises in you like waves.
ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਤਾ ਅਹੰਮੇਇ ॥
Buraa Bhalaa N Pashhaanee Vanajaariaa Mithraa Man Mathaa Ahanmaee ||
बुरा भला न पछाणई वणजारिआ मित्रा मनु मता अहमेइ ॥
You do not distinguish between good and evil, O my merchant friend-your mind is intoxicated with ego.
ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਨ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਆਗੈ ਪੰਥੁ ਕਰਾਰਾ ॥

बुरा भला न पछाणै प्राणी आगै पंथु करारा ॥
Mortal beings do not distinguish between good and evil, and the road ahead is treacherous.
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਜਮ ਜੰਦਾਰਾ ॥
Pooraa Sathigur Kabehoon N Saeviaa Sir Thaadtae Jam Jandhaaraa ||
पूरा सतिगुरु कबहूं न सेविआ सिरि ठाढे जम जंदारा ॥
They never serve the Perfect True Guru, and the cruel tyrant Death stands over their heads.

धरम राइ जब पकरसि बवरे तब किआ जबाबु करेइ ॥
When the Righteous Judge seizes you and interrogates you, O madman, what answer will you give him then?

Puthr Kalathr Mohi Lapattiaa Vanajaariaa Mithraa Anthar Lehar Lobhaan ||
पुत्रि कलत्रि मोहि लपटिआ वणजारिआ मित्रा अंतरि लहरि लोभानु ॥
He is entangled in emotional attachment to his wife and sons, O my merchant friend, and deep within him, the waves of greed are rising up.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਹਰਿ ਲੋਭਾਨੁ ਪਰਾਨੀ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
Anthar Lehar Lobhaan Paraanee So Prabh Chith N Aavai ||
अंतरि लहरि लोभानु परानी सो प्रभु चिति न आवै ॥
The waves of greed are rising up within him, and he does not remember God.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਕੀਆ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Saadhhasangath Sio Sang N Keeaa Bahu Jonee Dhukh Paavai ||
साधसंगति सिउ संगु न कीआ बहु जोनी दुखु पावै ॥
He does not join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and he suffers in terrible pain through countless incarnations.
ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
Sirajanehaar Visaariaa Suaamee Eik Nimakh N Lago Dhhiaan ||
सिरजनहारु विसारिआ सुआमी इक निमख न लगो धिआनु ॥
He has forgotten the Creator, his Lord and Master, and he does not meditate on Him, even for an instant.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੇਲੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
Guramukh Naam Samaal Thoon Vanajaariaa Mithraa Thaeraa Dharageh Baelee Hoe ||
गुरमुखि नामु समालि तूं वणजारिआ मित्रा तेरा दरगह बेली होइ ॥
As Gurmukh, remember the Naam, O my merchant friend. It shall be your Friend in the Court of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
Guramukh Naam Samaal Paraanee Anthae Hoe Sakhaaee ||
गुरमुखि नामु समालि पराणी अंते होइ सखाई ॥
As Gurmukh, remember the Naam, O mortal; in the end, it shall be your only companion.
