ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਦਰਸਨ ਚਾਹੇ ॥
Khojath Khojath Dharasan Chaahae ||
खोजत खोजत दरसन चाहे ॥
I have searched and searched, seeking the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਨ ਬਨ ਅਵਗਾਹੇ ॥
Bhaath Bhaath Ban Ban Avagaahae ||
भाति भाति बन बन अवगाहे ॥
I travelled through all sorts of woods and forests.
ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁ ਸਰਗੁਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਜੀਉ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
Niragun Saragun Har Har Maeraa Koee Hai Jeeo Aan Milaavai Jeeo ||1||
निरगुणु सरगुणु हरि हरि मेरा कोई है जीउ आणि मिलावै जीउ ॥१॥
My Lord, Har, Har, is both absolute and related, unmanifest and manifest; is there anyone who can come and unite me with Him? ||1||
ਖਟੁ ਸਾਸਤ ਬਿਚਰਤ ਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
Khatt Saasath Bicharath Mukh Giaanaa ||
खटु सासत बिचरत मुखि गिआना ॥
People recite from memory the wisdom of the six schools of philosophy;
ਪੂਜਾ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ॥
Poojaa Thilak Theerathh Eisanaanaa ||
पूजा तिलकु तीरथ इसनाना ॥
They perform worship services, wear ceremonial religious marks on their foreheads, and take ritual cleansing baths at sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਨਿਵਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਆਸਨ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
Nivalee Karam Aasan Chouraaseeh Ein Mehi Saanth N Aavai Jeeo ||2||
निवली करम आसन चउरासीह इन महि सांति न आवै जीउ ॥२॥
They perform the inner cleansing practice with water and adopt the eighty-four Yogic postures; but still, they find no peace in any of these. ||2||
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਰਖ ਕੀਏ ਜਪ ਤਾਪਾ ॥
Anik Barakh Keeeae Jap Thaapaa ||
अनिक बरख कीए जप तापा ॥
They chant and meditate, practicing austere self-discipline for years and years;
ਗਵਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਧਰਤੀ ਭਰਮਾਤਾ ॥
Gavan Keeaa Dhharathee Bharamaathaa ||
गवनु कीआ धरती भरमाता ॥
They wander on journeys all over the earth;
ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੋਗੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
Eik Khin Hiradhai Saanth N Aavai Jogee Bahurr Bahurr Outh Dhhaavai Jeeo ||3||
इकु खिनु हिरदै सांति न आवै जोगी बहुड़ि बहुड़ि उठि धावै जीउ ॥३॥
And yet, their hearts are not at peace, even for an instant. The Yogi rises up and goes out, over and over again. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਾਧੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Mohi Saadhh Milaaeiaa ||
करि किरपा मोहि साधु मिलाइआ ॥
By His Mercy, I have met the Holy Saint.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Man Than Seethal Dhheeraj Paaeiaa ||
मनु तनु सीतलु धीरजु पाइआ ॥
My mind and body have been cooled and soothed; I have been blessed with patience and composure.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਬਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੨॥
Prabh Abinaasee Basiaa Ghatt Bheethar Har Mangal Naanak Gaavai Jeeo ||4||5||12||
प्रभु अबिनासी बसिआ घट भीतरि हरि मंगलु नानकु गावै जीउ ॥४॥५॥१२॥
The Immortal Lord God has come to dwell within my heart. Nanak sings the songs of joy to the Lord. ||4||5||12||

पारब्रहम अपर्मपर देवा ॥
The Supreme Lord God is Infinite and Divine;
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥
Agam Agochar Alakh Abhaevaa ||
अगम अगोचर अलख अभेवा ॥
He is Inaccessible, Incomprehensible, Invisible and Inscrutable.
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
Dheen Dhaeiaal Gopaal Gobindhaa Har Dhhiaavahu Guramukh Gaathee Jeeo ||1||
दीन दइआल गोपाल गोबिंदा हरि धिआवहु गुरमुखि गाती जीउ ॥१॥
Merciful to the meek, Sustainer of the World, Lord of the Universe-meditating on the Lord, the Gurmukhs find salvation. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥
Guramukh Madhhusoodhan Nisathaarae ||
गुरमुखि मधुसूदनु निसतारे ॥
The Gurmukhs are emancipated by the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਗੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
Guramukh Sangee Kirasan Muraarae ||
गुरमुखि संगी क्रिसन मुरारे ॥
The Lord Krishna becomes the Gurmukh's Companion.
ਦਇਆਲ ਦਮੋਦਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਭਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
Dhaeiaal Dhamodhar Guramukh Paaeeai Horath Kithai N Bhaathee Jeeo ||2||
दइआल दमोदरु गुरमुखि पाईऐ होरतु कितै न भाती जीउ ॥२॥
The Gurmukh finds the Merciful Lord. He is not found any other way. ||2||
ਨਿਰਹਾਰੀ ਕੇਸਵ ਨਿਰਵੈਰਾ ॥
Nirehaaree Kaesav Niravairaa ||
निरहारी केसव निरवैरा ॥
He does not need to eat; His Hair is Wondrous and Beautiful; He is free of hate.
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਾ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਪੈਰਾ ॥
Kott Janaa Jaa Kae Poojehi Pairaa ||
कोटि जना जा के पूजहि पैरा ॥
Millions of people worship His Feet.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ਭਗਤੁ ਇਕਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
Guramukh Hiradhai Jaa Kai Har Har Soee Bhagath Eikaathee Jeeo ||3||
गुरमुखि हिरदै जा कै हरि हरि सोई भगतु इकाती जीउ ॥३॥
He alone is a devotee, who becomes Gurmukh, whose heart is filled with the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||
ਅਮੋਘ ਦਰਸਨ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Amogh Dharasan Baeanth Apaaraa ||
अमोघ दरसन बेअंत अपारा ॥
Forever fruitful is the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; He is Infinite and Incomparable.
ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥
Vadd Samarathh Sadhaa Dhaathaaraa ||
वड समरथु सदा दातारा ॥
He is Awesome and All-powerful; He is forever the Great Giver.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਜਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੩॥
Guramukh Naam Japeeai Thith Thareeai Gath Naanak Viralee Jaathee Jeeo ||4||6||13||
गुरमुखि नामु जपीऐ तितु तरीऐ गति नानक विरली जाती जीउ ॥४॥६॥१३॥
As Gurmukh, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and you shall be carried across. O Nanak, rare are those who know this state! ||4||6||13||

ਕਹਿਆ ਕਰਣਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਲੈਣਾ ॥

कहिआ करणा दिता लैणा ॥
As You command, I obey; as You give, I receive.
ਗਰੀਬਾ ਅਨਾਥਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਾਣਾ ॥
Gareebaa Anaathhaa Thaeraa Maanaa ||
गरीबा अनाथा तेरा माणा ॥
You are the Pride of the meek and the poor.
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
Sabh Kishh Thoonhai Thoonhai Maerae Piaarae Thaeree Kudharath Ko Bal Jaaee Jeeo ||1||
सभ किछु तूंहै तूंहै मेरे पिआरे तेरी कुदरति कउ बलि जाई जीउ ॥१॥
You are everything; You are my Beloved. I am a sacrifice to Your Creative Power. ||1||
ਭਾਣੈ ਉਝੜ ਭਾਣੈ ਰਾਹਾ ॥
Bhaanai Oujharr Bhaanai Raahaa ||
भाणै उझड़ भाणै राहा ॥
By Your Will, we wander in the wilderness; by Your Will, we find the path.
ਭਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵਾਹਾ ॥
Bhaanai Har Gun Guramukh Gaavaahaa ||
भाणै हरि गुण गुरमुखि गावाहा ॥
By Your Will, we become Gurmukh and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਭਾਣੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਵੈ ਬਹੁ ਜੂਨੀ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
Bhaanai Bharam Bhavai Bahu Joonee Sabh Kishh Thisai Rajaaee Jeeo ||2||
भाणै भरमि भवै बहु जूनी सभ किछु तिसै रजाई जीउ ॥२॥
By Your Will, we wander in doubt through countless lifetimes. Everything happens by Your Will. ||2||
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
Naa Ko Moorakh Naa Ko Siaanaa ||
ना को मूरखु ना को सिआणा ॥
No one is foolish, and no one is clever.
ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
Varathai Sabh Kishh Thaeraa Bhaanaa ||
वरतै सभ किछु तेरा भाणा ॥
Your Will determines everything;
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
Agam Agochar Baeanth Athhaahaa Thaeree Keemath Kehan N Jaaee Jeeo ||3||
अगम अगोचर बेअंत अथाहा तेरी कीमति कहणु न जाई जीउ ॥३॥
You are Inaccessible, Incomprehensible, Infinite and Unfathomable. Your Value cannot be expressed. ||3||
ਖਾਕੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਦੇਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
Khaak Santhan Kee Dhaehu Piaarae ||
खाकु संतन की देहु पिआरे ॥
Please bless me with the dust of the Saints, O my Beloved.
ਆਇ ਪਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਦੁਆਰੈ ॥
Aae Paeiaa Har Thaerai Dhuaarai ||
आइ पइआ हरि तेरै दुआरै ॥
I have come and fallen at Your Door, O Lord.
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਮਨੁ ਆਘਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੪॥
Dharasan Paekhath Man Aaghaavai Naanak Milan Subhaaee Jeeo ||4||7||14||
दरसनु पेखत मनु आघावै नानक मिलणु सुभाई जीउ ॥४॥७॥१४॥
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, my mind is fulfilled. O Nanak, with natural ease, I merge into Him. ||4||7||14||

They forget the Lord, and they suffer in pain.
ਭੁਖ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
Bhukh Viaapai Bahu Bidhh Dhhaavai ||
भुख विआपै बहु बिधि धावै ॥
Afflicted with hunger, they run around in all directions.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
Simarath Naam Sadhaa Suhaelaa Jis Dhaevai Dheen Dhaeiaalaa Jeeo ||1||
सिमरत नामु सदा सुहेला जिसु देवै दीन दइआला जीउ ॥१॥
Meditating in remembrance on the Naam, they are happy forever. The Lord, Merciful to the meek, bestows it upon them. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥਾ ॥
