अंतर की गति जाणीऐ गुर मिलीऐ संक उतारि ॥
Know the state of your inner being; meet with the Guru and get rid of your skepticism.
ਮੁਇਆ ਜਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਤਿਤੁ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਮਰੁ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
Mueiaa Jith Ghar Jaaeeai Thith Jeevadhiaa Mar Maar ||
मुइआ जितु घरि जाईऐ तितु जीवदिआ मरु मारि ॥
To reach your True Home after you die, you must conquer death while you are still alive.
ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

अनहद सबदि सुहावणे पाईऐ गुर वीचारि ॥२॥
The beautiful, Unstruck Sound of the Shabad is obtained, contemplating the Guru. ||2||
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਤਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥
Anehadh Baanee Paaeeai Theh Houmai Hoe Binaas ||
अनहद बाणी पाईऐ तह हउमै होइ बिनासु ॥
The Unstruck Melody of Gurbani is obtained, and egotism is eliminated.
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ਤਾਸੁ ॥
Sathagur Saevae Aapanaa Ho Sadh Kurabaanai Thaas ||
सतगुरु सेवे आपणा हउ सद कुरबाणै तासु ॥
I am forever a sacrifice to those who serve their True Guru.
ਖੜਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਨਾਈਐ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥
Kharr Dharageh Painaaeeai Mukh Har Naam Nivaas ||3||
खड़ि दरगह पैनाईऐ मुखि हरि नाम निवासु ॥३॥
They are dressed in robes of honor in the Court of the Lord; the Name of the Lord is on their lips. ||3||
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਕਾ ਮੇਲੁ ॥
Jeh Dhaekhaa Theh Rav Rehae Siv Sakathee Kaa Mael ||
जह देखा तह रवि रहे सिव सकती का मेलु ॥
Wherever I look, I see the Lord pervading there, in the union of Shiva and Shakti, of consciousness and matter.
ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਬੰਧੀ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਜਗਿ ਸੋ ਖੇਲੁ ॥
Thrihu Gun Bandhhee Dhaehuree Jo Aaeiaa Jag So Khael ||
त्रिहु गुण बंधी देहुरी जो आइआ जगि सो खेलु ॥
The three qualities hold the body in bondage; whoever comes into the world is subject to their play.
ਵਿਜੋਗੀ ਦੁਖਿ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਲਹਹਿ ਨ ਮੇਲੁ ॥੪॥
Vijogee Dhukh Vishhurrae Manamukh Lehehi N Mael ||4||
विजोगी दुखि विछुड़े मनमुखि लहहि न मेलु ॥४॥
Those who separate themselves from the Lord wander lost in misery. The self-willed manmukhs do not attain union with Him. ||4||
ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚ ਭੈ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Man Bairaagee Ghar Vasai Sach Bhai Raathaa Hoe ||
मनु बैरागी घरि वसै सच भै राता होइ ॥
If the mind becomes balanced and detached, and comes to dwell in its own true home, imbued with the Fear of God,
ਗਿਆਨ ਮਹਾਰਸੁ ਭੋਗਵੈ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Giaan Mehaaras Bhogavai Baahurr Bhookh N Hoe ||
गिआन महारसु भोगवै बाहुड़ि भूख न होइ ॥
Then it enjoys the essence of supreme spiritual wisdom; it shall never feel hunger again.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲੁ ਭੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥੧੮॥

नानक इहु मनु मारि मिलु भी फिरि दुखु न होइ ॥५॥१८॥
O Nanak, conquer and subdue this mind; meet with the Lord, and you shall never again suffer in pain. ||5||18||

एहु मनो मूरखु लोभीआ लोभे लगा लोभानु ॥
This foolish mind is greedy; through greed, it becomes even more attached to greed.
ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਕਤਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
Sabadh N Bheejai Saakathaa Dhuramath Aavan Jaan ||
सबदि न भीजै साकता दुरमति आवनु जानु ॥
The evil-minded shaaktas, the faithless cynics, are not attuned to the Shabad; they come and go in reincarnation.

O mind, renounce your egotistical pride.

हरि गुरु सरवरु सेवि तू पावहि दरगह मानु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
Raam Naam Jap Dhinas Raath Guramukh Har Dhhan Jaan ||
राम नामु जपि दिनसु राति गुरमुखि हरि धनु जानु ॥
Chant the Name of the Lord day and night; become Gurmukh, and know the Wealth of the Lord.
ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
Sabh Sukh Har Ras Bhoganae Santh Sabhaa Mil Giaan ||
सभि सुख हरि रस भोगणे संत सभा मिलि गिआनु ॥
All comforts and peace, and the Essence of the Lord, are enjoyed by acquiring spiritual wisdom in the Society of the Saints.
ਨਿਤਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥
Nith Ahinis Har Prabh Saeviaa Sathagur Dheeaa Naam ||2||
निति अहिनिसि हरि प्रभु सेविआ सतगुरि दीआ नामु ॥२॥
Day and night, continually serve the Lord God; the True Guru has given the Naam. ||2||
ਕੂਕਰ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਨੁ ॥
Kookar Koorr Kamaaeeai Gur Nindhaa Pachai Pachaan ||
कूकर कूड़ु कमाईऐ गुर निंदा पचै पचानु ॥
Those who practice falsehood are dogs; those who slander the Guru shall burn in their own fire.
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੈ ਖੁਲਹਾਨੁ ॥
Bharamae Bhoolaa Dhukh Ghano Jam Maar Karai Khulehaan ||
भरमे भूला दुखु घणो जमु मारि करै खुलहानु ॥
They wander lost and confused, deceived by doubt, suffering in terrible pain. The Messenger of Death shall beat them to a pulp.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਸੁਭਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
Manamukh Sukh N Paaeeai Guramukh Sukh Subhaan ||3||
मनमुखि सुखु न पाईऐ गुरमुखि सुखु सुभानु ॥३॥
The self-willed manmukhs find no peace, while the Gurmukhs are wondrously joyful. ||3||
ਐਥੈ ਧੰਧੁ ਪਿਟਾਈਐ ਸਚੁ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
Aithhai Dhhandhh Pittaaeeai Sach Likhath Paravaan ||
ऐथै धंधु पिटाईऐ सचु लिखतु परवानु ॥
In this world, people are engrossed in false pursuits, but in the world hereafter, only the account of your true actions is accepted.
ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਦਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥
Har Sajan Gur Saevadhaa Gur Karanee Paradhhaan ||
हरि सजणु गुरु सेवदा गुर करणी परधानु ॥
The Guru serves the Lord, His Intimate Friend. The Guru's actions are supremely exalted.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਸਚੈ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੧੯॥
Naanak Naam N Veesarai Karam Sachai Neesaan ||4||19||
नानक नामु न वीसरै करमि सचै नीसाणु ॥४॥१९॥
O Nanak, never forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the True Lord shall bless you with His Mark of Grace. ||4||19||

इकु तिलु पिआरा वीसरै रोगु वडा मन माहि ॥
Forgetting the Beloved, even for a moment, the mind is afflicted with terrible diseases.
ਕਿਉ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਨ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Kio Dharageh Path Paaeeai Jaa Har N Vasai Man Maahi ||
किउ दरगह पति पाईऐ जा हरि न वसै मन माहि ॥
How can honor be attained in His Court, if the Lord does not dwell in the mind?
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
Gur Miliai Sukh Paaeeai Agan Marai Gun Maahi ||1||
गुरि मिलिऐ सुखु पाईऐ अगनि मरै गुण माहि ॥१॥
Meeting with the Guru, peace is found. The fire is extinguished in His Glorious Praises. ||1||

मन रे अहिनिसि हरि गुण सारि ॥

जिन खिनु पलु नामु न वीसरै ते जन विरले संसारि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
One who does not forget the Naam, for a moment or even an instant-how rare is such a person in this world! ||1||Pause||
ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈਐ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥
Jothee Joth Milaaeeai Surathee Surath Sanjog ||
जोती जोति मिलाईऐ सुरती सुरति संजोगु ॥
When one's light merges into the Light, and one's intuitive consciousness is joined with the Intuitive Consciousness,
ਹਿੰਸਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਤੁ ਗਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
Hinsaa Houmai Gath Geae Naahee Sehasaa Sog ||
हिंसा हउमै गतु गए नाही सहसा सोगु ॥
Then one's cruel and violent instincts and egotism depart, and skepticism and sorrow are taken away.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥੨॥
Guramukh Jis Har Man Vasai This Maelae Gur Sanjog ||2||
गुरमुखि जिसु हरि मनि वसै तिसु मेले गुरु संजोगु ॥२॥
The Lord abides within the mind of the Gurmukh, who merges in the Lord's Union, through the Guru. ||2||
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਜੇ ਕਰੀ ਭੋਗੇ ਭੋਗਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Kaaeiaa Kaaman Jae Karee Bhogae Bhoganehaar ||
काइआ कामणि जे करी भोगे भोगणहारु ॥
If I surrender my body like a bride, the Enjoyer will enjoy me.
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਨ ਕੀਜਈ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਚਲਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
This Sio Naehu N Keejee Jo Dheesai Chalanehaar ||
तिसु सिउ नेहु न कीजई जो दीसै चलणहारु ॥
Do not make love with one who is just a passing show.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਵਹਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਜ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
Guramukh Ravehi Sohaaganee So Prabh Saej Bhathaar ||3||
गुरमुखि रवहि सोहागणी सो प्रभु सेज भतारु ॥३॥
The Gurmukh is ravished like the pure and happy bride on the Bed of God, her Husband. ||3||
