ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਣਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਆਖੈ ਇਕ ਦੂ ਇਕੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
Naanak Aakhan Sabh Ko Aakhai Eik Dhoo Eik Siaanaa ||
नानक आखणि सभु को आखै इक दू इकु सिआणा ॥
O Nanak, everyone speaks of Him, each one wiser than the rest.
ਵਡਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਵਡੀ ਨਾਈ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
Vaddaa Saahib Vaddee Naaee Keethaa Jaa Kaa Hovai ||
वडा साहिबु वडी नाई कीता जा का होवै ॥
Great is the Master, Great is His Name. Whatever happens is according to His Will.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਆਪੌ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਗੈ ਗਇਆ ਨ ਸੋਹੈ ॥੨੧॥
Naanak Jae Ko Aapa Jaanai Agai Gaeiaa N Sohai ||21||
नानक जे को आपौ जाणै अगै गइआ न सोहै ॥२१॥
O Nanak, one who claims to know everything shall not be decorated in the world hereafter. ||21||
ਪਾਤਾਲਾ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਲਖ ਆਗਾਸਾ ਆਗਾਸ ॥
Paathaalaa Paathaal Lakh Aagaasaa Aagaas ||
पाताला पाताल लख आगासा आगास ॥
There are nether worlds beneath nether worlds, and hundreds of thousands of heavenly worlds above.
ਓੜਕ ਓੜਕ ਭਾਲਿ ਥਕੇ ਵੇਦ ਕਹਨਿ ਇਕ ਵਾਤ ॥
Ourrak Ourrak Bhaal Thhakae Vaedh Kehan Eik Vaath ||
ओड़क ओड़क भालि थके वेद कहनि इक वात ॥
The Vedas say that you can search and search for them all, until you grow weary.
ਸਹਸ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਕਹਨਿ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਅਸੁਲੂ ਇਕੁ ਧਾਤੁ ॥
Sehas Athaareh Kehan Kathaebaa Asuloo Eik Dhhaath ||
सहस अठारह कहनि कतेबा असुलू इकु धातु ॥
The scriptures say that there are 18,000 worlds, but in reality, there is only One Universe.
ਲੇਖਾ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਲੇਖੈ ਹੋਇ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥
Laekhaa Hoe Th Likheeai Laekhai Hoe Vinaas ||
लेखा होइ त लिखीऐ लेखै होइ विणासु ॥
If you try to write an account of this, you will surely finish yourself before you finish writing it.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਡਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪੁ ॥੨੨॥
Naanak Vaddaa Aakheeai Aapae Jaanai Aap ||22||
नानक वडा आखीऐ आपे जाणै आपु ॥२२॥
O Nanak, call Him Great! He Himself knows Himself. ||22||
ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਏਤੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ॥
Saalaahee Saalaahi Eaethee Surath N Paaeeaa ||
सालाही सालाहि एती सुरति न पाईआ ॥
The praisers praise the Lord, but they do not obtain intuitive understanding
ਨਦੀਆ ਅਤੈ ਵਾਹ ਪਵਹਿ ਸਮੁੰਦਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ॥
Nadheeaa Athai Vaah Pavehi Samundh N Jaaneeahi ||
नदीआ अतै वाह पवहि समुंदि न जाणीअहि ॥
The streams and rivers flowing into the ocean do not know its vastness.
ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸਾਹ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ਗਿਰਹਾ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਾਲੁ ਧਨੁ ॥
Samundh Saah Sulathaan Girehaa Saethee Maal Dhhan ||
समुंद साह सुलतान गिरहा सेती मालु धनु ॥
Even kings and emperors, with mountains of property and oceans of wealth
ਕੀੜੀ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਨੀ ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰਹਿ ॥੨੩॥
Keerree Thul N Hovanee Jae This Manahu N Veesarehi ||23||
कीड़ी तुलि न होवनी जे तिसु मनहु न वीसरहि ॥२३॥
-these are not even equal to an ant, who does not forget God. ||23||
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਕਹਣਿ ਨ ਅੰਤੁ ॥
Anth N Sifathee Kehan N Anth ||
अंतु न सिफती कहणि न अंतु ॥
Endless are His Praises, endless are those who speak them.
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕਰਣੈ ਦੇਣਿ ਨ ਅੰਤੁ ॥
Anth N Karanai Dhaen N Anth ||
अंतु न करणै देणि न अंतु ॥
Endless are His Actions, endless are His Gifts.
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਵੇਖਣਿ ਸੁਣਣਿ ਨ ਅੰਤੁ ॥
Anth N Vaekhan Sunan N Anth ||
अंतु न वेखणि सुणणि न अंतु ॥
Endless is His Vision, endless is His Hearing.
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਕਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਮੰਤੁ ॥
Anth N Jaapai Kiaa Man Manth ||
अंतु न जापै किआ मनि मंतु ॥
His limits cannot be perceived. What is the Mystery of His Mind?
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
Anth N Jaapai Keethaa Aakaar ||
अंतु न जापै कीता आकारु ॥
The limits of the created universe cannot be perceived.
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
Anth N Jaapai Paaraavaar ||
अंतु न जापै पारावारु ॥
Its limits here and beyond cannot be perceived.
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਹਿ ॥
Anth Kaaran Kaethae Bilalaahi ||
अंत कारणि केते बिललाहि ॥
Many struggle to know His limits,
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
Thaa Kae Anth N Paaeae Jaahi ||
ता के अंत न पाए जाहि ॥
But His limits cannot be found.
ਏਹੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
Eaehu Anth N Jaanai Koe ||
एहु अंतु न जाणै कोइ ॥
No one can know these limits.
ਬਹੁਤਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Bahuthaa Keheeai Bahuthaa Hoe ||
बहुता कहीऐ बहुता होइ ॥
The more you say about them, the more there still remains to be said.
ਵਡਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਊਚਾ ਥਾਉ ॥
Vaddaa Saahib Oochaa Thhaao ||
वडा साहिबु ऊचा थाउ ॥
Great is the Master, High is His Heavenly Home.
ਊਚੇ ਉਪਰਿ ਊਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
Oochae Oupar Oochaa Naao ||
ऊचे उपरि ऊचा नाउ ॥
Highest of the High, above all is His Name.
ਏਵਡੁ ਊਚਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
Eaevadd Oochaa Hovai Koe ||
एवडु ऊचा होवै कोइ ॥
Only one as Great and as High as God
ਤਿਸੁ ਊਚੇ ਕਉ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
This Oochae Ko Jaanai Soe ||
तिसु ऊचे कउ जाणै सोइ ॥
Can know His Lofty and Exalted State.
ਜੇਵਡੁ ਆਪਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ॥
Jaevadd Aap Jaanai Aap Aap ||
जेवडु आपि जाणै आपि आपि ॥
Only He Himself is that Great. He Himself knows Himself.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੨੪॥
Naanak Nadharee Karamee Dhaath ||24||
नानक नदरी करमी दाति ॥२४॥
O Nanak, by His Glance of Grace, He bestows His Blessings. ||24||
ਬਹੁਤਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
Bahuthaa Karam Likhiaa Naa Jaae ||
बहुता करमु लिखिआ ना जाइ ॥
His Blessings are so abundant that there can be no written account of them.
ਵਡਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥
Vaddaa Dhaathaa Thil N Thamaae ||
वडा दाता तिलु न तमाइ ॥
The Great Giver does not hold back anything.
ਕੇਤੇ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਜੋਧ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
Kaethae Mangehi Jodhh Apaar ||
केते मंगहि जोध अपार ॥
There are so many great, heroic warriors begging at the Door of the Infinite Lord.
ਕੇਤਿਆ ਗਣਤ ਨਹੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Kaethiaa Ganath Nehee Veechaar ||
केतिआ गणत नही वीचारु ॥
So many contemplate and dwell upon Him, that they cannot be counted.
ਕੇਤੇ ਖਪਿ ਤੁਟਹਿ ਵੇਕਾਰ ॥
Kaethae Khap Thuttehi Vaekaar ||
केते खपि तुटहि वेकार ॥
So many waste away to death engaged in corruption.
ਕੇਤੇ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਮੁਕਰੁ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Kaethae Lai Lai Mukar Paahi ||
केते लै लै मुकरु पाहि ॥
So many take and take again, and then deny receiving.
ਕੇਤੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਖਾਹੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
Kaethae Moorakh Khaahee Khaahi ||
केते मूरख खाही खाहि ॥
So many foolish consumers keep on consuming.
ਕੇਤਿਆ ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਸਦ ਮਾਰ ॥
Kaethiaa Dhookh Bhookh Sadh Maar ||
केतिआ दूख भूख सद मार ॥
So many endure distress, deprivation and constant abuse.
ਏਹਿ ਭਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਤਾਰ ॥
Eaehi Bh Dhaath Thaeree Dhaathaar ||
एहि भि दाति तेरी दातार ॥
Even these are Your Gifts, O Great Giver!
ਬੰਦਿ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਭਾਣੈ ਹੋਇ ॥
Bandh Khalaasee Bhaanai Hoe ||
बंदि खलासी भाणै होइ ॥
Liberation from bondage comes only by Your Will.
ਹੋਰੁ ਆਖਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
Hor Aakh N Sakai Koe ||
होरु आखि न सकै कोइ ॥
No one else has any say in this.
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਖਾਇਕੁ ਆਖਣਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
Jae Ko Khaaeik Aakhan Paae ||
जे को खाइकु आखणि पाइ ॥
If some fool should presume to say that he does,
ਓਹੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੇਤੀਆ ਮੁਹਿ ਖਾਇ ॥
Ouhu Jaanai Jaetheeaa Muhi Khaae ||
ओहु जाणै जेतीआ मुहि खाइ ॥
He shall learn, and feel the effects of his folly.
ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥
Aapae Jaanai Aapae Dhaee ||
आपे जाणै आपे देइ ॥
He Himself knows, He Himself gives.
ਆਖਹਿ ਸਿ ਭਿ ਕੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥
Aakhehi S Bh Kaeee Kaee ||
आखहि सि भि केई केइ ॥
Few, very few are those who acknowledge this.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ॥
Jis No Bakhasae Sifath Saalaah ||
जिस नो बखसे सिफति सालाह ॥
One who is blessed to sing the Praises of the Lord,
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥੨੫॥
Naanak Paathisaahee Paathisaahu ||25||
नानक पातिसाही पातिसाहु ॥२५॥
O Nanak, is the king of kings. ||25||
ਅਮੁਲ ਗੁਣ ਅਮੁਲ ਵਾਪਾਰ ॥
Amul Gun Amul Vaapaar ||
अमुल गुण अमुल वापार ॥
Priceless are His Virtues, Priceless are His Dealings.
ਅਮੁਲ ਵਾਪਾਰੀਏ ਅਮੁਲ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
Amul Vaapaareeeae Amul Bhanddaar ||
अमुल वापारीए अमुल भंडार ॥
Priceless are His Dealers, Priceless are His Treasures.
ਅਮੁਲ ਆਵਹਿ ਅਮੁਲ ਲੈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
Amul Aavehi Amul Lai Jaahi ||
अमुल आवहि अमुल लै जाहि ॥
Priceless are those who come to Him, Priceless are those who buy from Him.
ਅਮੁਲ ਭਾਇ ਅਮੁਲਾ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
Amul Bhaae Amulaa Samaahi ||
अमुल भाइ अमुला समाहि ॥
Priceless is Love for Him, Priceless is absorption into Him.
ਅਮੁਲੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥
Amul Dhharam Amul Dheebaan ||
अमुलु धरमु अमुलु दीबाणु ॥
Priceless is the Divine Law of Dharma, Priceless is the Divine Court of Justice.
ਅਮੁਲੁ ਤੁਲੁ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
Amul Thul Amul Paravaan ||
अमुलु तुलु अमुलु परवाणु ॥
Priceless are the scales, priceless are the weights.
ਅਮੁਲੁ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥
Amul Bakhasees Amul Neesaan ||
अमुलु बखसीस अमुलु नीसाणु ॥
Priceless are His Blessings, Priceless is His Banner and Insignia.
ਅਮੁਲੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਣੁ ॥
Amul Karam Amul Furamaan ||
अमुलु करमु अमुलु फुरमाणु ॥
Priceless is His Mercy, Priceless is His Royal Command.
ਅਮੁਲੋ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਆਖਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Amulo Amul Aakhiaa N Jaae ||
अमुलो अमुलु आखिआ न जाइ ॥
Priceless, O Priceless beyond expression!
ਆਖਿ ਆਖਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
Aakh Aakh Rehae Liv Laae ||
आखि आखि रहे लिव लाइ ॥
Speak of Him continually, and remain absorbed in His Love.
ਆਖਹਿ ਵੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥
Aakhehi Vaedh Paath Puraan ||
आखहि वेद पाठ पुराण ॥
The Vedas and the Puraanas speak.
ਆਖਹਿ ਪੜੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਖਿਆਣ ॥
Aakhehi Parrae Karehi Vakhiaan ||
आखहि पड़े करहि वखिआण ॥
The scholars speak and lecture.
ਆਖਹਿ ਬਰਮੇ ਆਖਹਿ ਇੰਦ ॥
Aakhehi Baramae Aakhehi Eindh ||
आखहि बरमे आखहि इंद ॥
Brahma speaks, Indra speaks.
