ਸਬਦਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Sabadh Manniai Gur Paaeeai Vichahu Aap Gavaae ||
सबदि मंनिऐ गुरु पाईऐ विचहु आपु गवाइ ॥
With faith in the Shabad, the Guru is found, and selfishness is eradicated from within.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
Anadhin Bhagath Karae Sadhaa Saachae Kee Liv Laae ||
अनदिनु भगति करे सदा साचे की लिव लाइ ॥
Night and day, worship the True Lord with devotion and love forever.
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੯॥੫੨॥

नामु पदारथु मनि वसिआ नानक सहजि समाइ ॥४॥१९॥५२॥
The Treasure of the Naam abides in the mind; O Nanak, in the poise of perfect balance, merge into the Lord. ||4||19||52||

Jinee Purakhee Sathagur N Saeviou Sae Dhukheeeae Jug Chaar ||
जिनी पुरखी सतगुरु न सेविओ से दुखीए जुग चारि ॥
Those who do not serve the True Guru shall be miserable throughout the four ages.
ਘਰਿ ਹੋਦਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਿ ਮੁਠੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ॥
Ghar Hodhaa Purakh N Pashhaaniaa Abhimaan Muthae Ahankaar ||
घरि होदा पुरखु न पछाणिआ अभिमानि मुठे अहंकारि ॥
The Primal Being is within their own home, but they do not recognize Him. They are plundered by their egotistical pride and arrogance.
ਸਤਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਆ ਫਿਟਕਿਆ ਮੰਗਿ ਥਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
Sathaguroo Kiaa Fittakiaa Mang Thhakae Sansaar ||
सतगुरू किआ फिटकिआ मंगि थके संसारि ॥
Cursed by the True Guru, they wander around the world begging, until they are exhausted.
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
Sachaa Sabadh N Saeviou Sabh Kaaj Savaaranehaar ||1||
सचा सबदु न सेविओ सभि काज सवारणहारु ॥१॥
They do not serve the True Word of the Shabad, which is the solution to all of their problems. ||1||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਖੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥
Man Maerae Sadhaa Har Vaekh Hadhoor ||
मन मेरे सदा हरि वेखु हदूरि ॥
O my mind, see the Lord ever close at hand.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਰਹਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Janam Maran Dhukh Pareharai Sabadh Rehiaa Bharapoor ||1|| Rehaao ||
जनम मरन दुखु परहरै सबदि रहिआ भरपूरि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
He shall remove the pains of death and rebirth; the Word of the Shabad shall fill you to overflowing. ||1||Pause||
ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਸੇ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
Sach Salaahan Sae Sachae Sachaa Naam Adhhaar ||
सचु सलाहनि से सचे सचा नामु अधारु ॥
Those who praise the True One are true; the True Name is their Support.
ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Sachee Kaar Kamaavanee Sachae Naal Piaar ||
सची कार कमावणी सचे नालि पिआरु ॥
They act truthfully, in love with the True Lord.
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Sachaa Saahu Varathadhaa Koe N Maettanehaar ||
सचा साहु वरतदा कोइ न मेटणहारु ॥
The True King has written His Order, which no one can erase.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨੀ ਕੂੜਿ ਮੁਠੇ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥੨॥
Manamukh Mehal N Paaeinee Koorr Muthae Koorriaar ||2||
मनमुख महलु न पाइनी कूड़ि मुठे कूड़िआर ॥२॥
The self-willed manmukhs do not obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. The false are plundered by falsehood. ||2||
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਗੁ ਮੁਆ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥
Houmai Karathaa Jag Muaa Gur Bin Ghor Andhhaar ||
हउमै करता जगु मुआ गुर बिनु घोर अंधारु ॥
Engrossed in egotism, the world perishes. Without the Guru, there is utter darkness.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohi Visaariaa Sukhadhaathaa Dhaathaar ||
माइआ मोहि विसारिआ सुखदाता दातारु ॥
In emotional attachment to Maya, they have forgotten the Great Giver, the Giver of Peace.
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਉਬਰਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਰਖਹਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
Sathagur Saevehi Thaa Oubarehi Sach Rakhehi Our Dhhaar ||
सतगुरु सेवहि ता उबरहि सचु रखहि उर धारि ॥
Those who serve the True Guru are saved; they keep the True One enshrined in their hearts.
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
Kirapaa Thae Har Paaeeai Sach Sabadh Veechaar ||3||
किरपा ते हरि पाईऐ सचि सबदि वीचारि ॥३॥
By His Grace, we find the Lord, and reflect on the True Word of the Shabad. ||3||
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
Sathagur Saev Man Niramalaa Houmai Thaj Vikaar ||
सतगुरु सेवि मनु निरमला हउमै तजि विकार ॥
Serving the True Guru, the mind becomes immaculate and pure; egotism and corruption are discarded.
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
Aap Shhodd Jeevath Marai Gur Kai Sabadh Veechaar ||
आपु छोडि जीवत मरै गुर कै सबदि वीचार ॥
So abandon your selfishness, and remain dead while yet alive. Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਧੰਧਾ ਧਾਵਤ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ ਲਾਗਾ ਸਾਚਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Dhhandhhaa Dhhaavath Rehi Geae Laagaa Saach Piaar ||
धंधा धावत रहि गए लागा साचि पिआरु ॥
The pursuit of worldly affairs comes to an end, when you embrace love for the True One.
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
Sach Rathae Mukh Oujalae Thith Saachai Dharabaar ||4||
सचि रते मुख उजले तितु साचै दरबारि ॥४॥
Those who are attuned to Truth-their faces are radiant in the Court of the True Lord. ||4||
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਮੰਨਿਓ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Sathagur Purakh N Manniou Sabadh N Lago Piaar ||
सतगुरु पुरखु न मंनिओ सबदि न लगो पिआरु ॥
Those who do not have faith in the Primal Being, the True Guru, and who do not enshrine love for the Shabad
ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਜੇਤਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
Eisanaan Dhaan Jaethaa Karehi Dhoojai Bhaae Khuaar ||
इसनानु दानु जेता करहि दूजै भाइ खुआरु ॥
They take their cleansing baths, and give to charity again and again, but they are ultimately consumed by their love of duality.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Har Jeeo Aapanee Kirapaa Karae Thaa Laagai Naam Piaar ||
हरि जीउ आपणी क्रिपा करे ता लागै नाम पिआरु ॥
When the Dear Lord Himself grants His Grace, they are inspired to love the Naam.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥੫॥੨੦॥੫੩॥

नानक नामु समालि तू गुर कै हेति अपारि ॥५॥२०॥५३॥
O Nanak, immerse yourself in the Naam, through the Infinite Love of the Guru. ||5||20||53||

किसु हउ सेवी किआ जपु करी सतगुर पूछउ जाइ ॥
Whom shall I serve? What shall I chant? I will go and ask the Guru.
ਸਤਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਲਈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Sathagur Kaa Bhaanaa Mann Lee Vichahu Aap Gavaae ||
सतगुर का भाणा मंनि लई विचहु आपु गवाइ ॥
I will accept the Will of the True Guru, and eradicate selfishness from within.
ਏਹਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
Eaehaa Saevaa Chaakaree Naam Vasai Man Aae ||
एहा सेवा चाकरी नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥
By this work and service, the Naam shall come to dwell within my mind.
ਨਾਮੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇ ॥੧॥
Naamai Hee Thae Sukh Paaeeai Sachai Sabadh Suhaae ||1||
नामै ही ते सुखु पाईऐ सचै सबदि सुहाइ ॥१॥
Through the Naam, peace is obtained; I am adorned and embellished by the True Word of the Shabad. ||1||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੁ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ॥
Man Maerae Anadhin Jaag Har Chaeth ||
मन मेरे अनदिनु जागु हरि चेति ॥
O my mind, remain awake and aware night and day, and think of the Lord.
ਆਪਣੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਰਖਿ ਲੈ ਕੂੰਜ ਪੜੈਗੀ ਖੇਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Aapanee Khaethee Rakh Lai Koonj Parraigee Khaeth ||1|| Rehaao ||
आपणी खेती रखि लै कूंज पड़ैगी खेति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Protect your crops, or else the birds shall descend on your farm. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
Man Keeaa Eishhaa Pooreeaa Sabadh Rehiaa Bharapoor ||
मन कीआ इछा पूरीआ सबदि रहिआ भरपूरि ॥
The desires of the mind are fulfilled, when one is filled to overflowing with the Shabad.
ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਦਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥
Bhai Bhaae Bhagath Karehi Dhin Raathee Har Jeeo Vaekhai Sadhaa Hadhoor ||
भै भाइ भगति करहि दिनु राती हरि जीउ वेखै सदा हदूरि ॥
One who fears, loves, and is devoted to the Dear Lord day and night, sees Him always close at hand.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
Sachai Sabadh Sadhaa Man Raathaa Bhram Gaeiaa Sareerahu Dhoor ||
सचै सबदि सदा मनु राता भ्रमु गइआ सरीरहु दूरि ॥
Doubt runs far away from the bodies of those, whose minds remain forever attuned to the True Word of the Shabad.
ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥੨॥
Niramal Saahib Paaeiaa Saachaa Gunee Geheer ||2||
निरमलु साहिबु पाइआ साचा गुणी गहीरु ॥२॥
The Immaculate Lord and Master is found. He is True; He is the Ocean of Excellence. ||2||
ਜੋ ਜਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਸੂਤੇ ਗਏ ਮੁਹਾਇ ॥
Jo Jaagae Sae Oubarae Soothae Geae Muhaae ||
जो जागे से उबरे सूते गए मुहाइ ॥
Those who remain awake and aware are saved, while those who sleep are plundered.
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਿਓ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਗਇਆ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
Sachaa Sabadh N Pashhaaniou Supanaa Gaeiaa Vihaae ||
सचा सबदु न पछाणिओ सुपना गइआ विहाइ ॥
They do not recognize the True Word of the Shabad, and like a dream, their lives fade away.
ਸੁੰਞੇ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਪਾਹੁਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਉ ਜਾਇ ॥
Sunnjae Ghar Kaa Paahunaa Jio Aaeiaa Thio Jaae ||
सुंञे घर का पाहुणा जिउ आइआ तिउ जाइ ॥
Like guests in a deserted house, they leave just exactly as they have come.
