Gaavan Thudhhano Jathee Sathee Santhokhee Gaavan Thudhhano Veer Karaarae ||
गावनि तुधनो जती सती संतोखी गावनि तुधनो वीर करारे ॥
The celibates, the fanatics, and the peacefully accepting sing of You; the fearless warriors sing of You.
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਨਿ ਰਖੀਸੁਰ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਵੇਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
Gaavan Thudhhano Panddith Parran Rakheesur Jug Jug Vaedhaa Naalae ||
गावनि तुधनो पंडित पड़नि रखीसुर जुगु जुगु वेदा नाले ॥
The Pandits, the religious scholars who recite the Vedas, with the supreme sages of all the ages, sing of You.
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਮੋਹਣੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਨਿ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो मोहणीआ मनु मोहनि सुरगु मछु पइआले ॥
The Mohinis, the enchanting heavenly beauties who entice hearts in paradise, in this world, and in the underworld of the subconscious, sing of You.
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਰਤਨ ਉਪਾਏ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो रतन उपाए तेरे अठसठि तीरथ नाले ॥
The celestial jewels created by You, and the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, sing of You.
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਜੋਧ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਸੂਰਾ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰੇ ॥
Gaavan Thudhhano Jodhh Mehaabal Sooraa Gaavan Thudhhano Khaanee Chaarae ||
गावनि तुधनो जोध महाबल सूरा गावनि तुधनो खाणी चारे ॥
The brave and mighty warriors sing of You. The spiritual heroes and the four sources of creation sing of You.
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਖੰਡ ਮੰਡਲ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
Gaavan Thudhhano Khandd Manddal Brehamanddaa Kar Kar Rakhae Thaerae Dhhaarae ||
गावनि तुधनो खंड मंडल ब्रहमंडा करि करि रखे तेरे धारे ॥
The worlds, solar systems and galaxies, created and arranged by Your Hand, sing of You.
ਸੇਈ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਨਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਸਾਲੇ ॥
Saeee Thudhhano Gaavan Jo Thudhh Bhaavan Rathae Thaerae Bhagath Rasaalae ||
सेई तुधनो गावनि जो तुधु भावनि रते तेरे भगत रसाले ॥
They alone sing of You, who are pleasing to Your Will. Your devotees are imbued with Your Sublime Essence.
ਹੋਰਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਮੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਨਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਿਆ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
Hor Kaethae Thudhhano Gaavan Sae Mai Chith N Aavan Naanak Kiaa Beechaarae ||
होरि केते तुधनो गावनि से मै चिति न आवनि नानकु किआ बीचारे ॥
So many others sing of You, they do not come to mind. O Nanak, how can I think of them all?
ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥
Soee Soee Sadhaa Sach Saahib Saachaa Saachee Naaee ||
सोई सोई सदा सचु साहिबु साचा साची नाई ॥
That True Lord is True, forever True, and True is His Name.
ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਸੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਾਈ ॥
Hai Bhee Hosee Jaae N Jaasee Rachanaa Jin Rachaaee ||
है भी होसी जाइ न जासी रचना जिनि रचाई ॥
He is, and shall always be. He shall not depart, even when this Universe which He has created departs.
ਰੰਗੀ ਰੰਗੀ ਭਾਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
Rangee Rangee Bhaathee Kar Kar Jinasee Maaeiaa Jin Oupaaee ||
रंगी रंगी भाती करि करि जिनसी माइआ जिनि उपाई ॥
He created the world, with its various colors, species of beings, and the variety of Maya.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Kar Kar Dhaekhai Keethaa Aapanaa Jio This Dhee Vaddiaaee ||
करि करि देखै कीता आपणा जिउ तिस दी वडिआई ॥
Having created the creation, He watches over it Himself, by His Greatness.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥
Jo This Bhaavai Soee Karasee Fir Hukam N Karanaa Jaaee ||
जो तिसु भावै सोई करसी फिरि हुकमु न करणा जाई ॥
He does whatever He pleases. No one can issue any order to Him.
ਸੋ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਤਿਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਹਣੁ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
So Paathisaahu Saahaa Pathisaahib Naanak Rehan Rajaaee ||1||
सो पातिसाहु साहा पतिसाहिबु नानक रहणु रजाई ॥१॥
He is the King, the King of kings, the Supreme Lord and Master of kings. Nanak remains subject to His Will. ||1||

Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਸੁਣਿ ਵਡਾ ਆਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
Sun Vaddaa Aakhai Sabh Koe ||
सुणि वडा आखै सभु कोइ ॥
Hearing of His Greatness, everyone calls Him Great.
ਕੇਵਡੁ ਵਡਾ ਡੀਠਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Kaevadd Vaddaa Ddeethaa Hoe ||
केवडु वडा डीठा होइ ॥
But just how Great His Greatness is-this is known only to those who have seen Him.
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਨ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
Keemath Paae N Kehiaa Jaae ||
कीमति पाइ न कहिआ जाइ ॥
His Value cannot be estimated; He cannot be described.
ਕਹਣੈ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
Kehanai Vaalae Thaerae Rehae Samaae ||1||
कहणै वाले तेरे रहे समाइ ॥१॥
Those who describe You, Lord, remain immersed and absorbed in You. ||1||
ਵਡੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥
Vaddae Maerae Saahibaa Gehir Ganbheeraa Gunee Geheeraa ||
वडे मेरे साहिबा गहिर ग्मभीरा गुणी गहीरा ॥
O my Great Lord and Master of Unfathomable Depth, You are the Ocean of Excellence.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਤਾ ਕੇਵਡੁ ਚੀਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Koe N Jaanai Thaeraa Kaethaa Kaevadd Cheeraa ||1|| Rehaao ||
कोइ न जाणै तेरा केता केवडु चीरा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
No one knows the extent or the vastness of Your Expanse. ||1||Pause||
ਸਭਿ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
Sabh Surathee Mil Surath Kamaaee ||
सभि सुरती मिलि सुरति कमाई ॥
All the intuitives met and practiced intuitive meditation.
ਸਭ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Sabh Keemath Mil Keemath Paaee ||
सभ कीमति मिलि कीमति पाई ॥
All the appraisers met and made the appraisal.
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਗੁਰ ਗੁਰਹਾਈ ॥
Giaanee Dhhiaanee Gur Gurehaaee ||
गिआनी धिआनी गुर गुरहाई ॥
The spiritual teachers, the teachers of meditation, and the teachers of teachers
ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਤਿਲੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥
Kehan N Jaaee Thaeree Thil Vaddiaaee ||2||
कहणु न जाई तेरी तिलु वडिआई ॥२॥
-they cannot describe even an iota of Your Greatness. ||2||
ਸਭਿ ਸਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਪ ਸਭਿ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ॥
Sabh Sath Sabh Thap Sabh Changiaaeeaa ||
सभि सत सभि तप सभि चंगिआईआ ॥
All Truth, all austere discipline, all goodness,
ਸਿਧਾ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਕੀਆ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ॥
Sidhhaa Purakhaa Keeaa Vaddiaaeeaa ||
सिधा पुरखा कीआ वडिआईआ ॥
All the great miraculous spiritual powers of the Siddhas
ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਿਧੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ॥
Thudhh Vin Sidhhee Kinai N Paaeeaa ||
तुधु विणु सिधी किनै न पाईआ ॥
Without You, no one has attained such powers.
ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਈਆ ॥੩॥
Karam Milai Naahee Thaak Rehaaeeaa ||3||
करमि मिलै नाही ठाकि रहाईआ ॥३॥
They are received only by Your Grace. No one can block them or stop their flow. ||3||
ਆਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਿਆ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ॥
Aakhan Vaalaa Kiaa Vaechaaraa ||
आखण वाला किआ वेचारा ॥
What can the poor helpless creatures do?
ਸਿਫਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
Sifathee Bharae Thaerae Bhanddaaraa ||
सिफती भरे तेरे भंडारा ॥
Your Praises are overflowing with Your Treasures.
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਿਆ ਚਾਰਾ ॥
Jis Thoo Dhaehi Thisai Kiaa Chaaraa ||
जिसु तू देहि तिसै किआ चारा ॥
Those, unto whom You give-how can they think of any other?
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
Naanak Sach Savaaranehaaraa ||4||2||
नानक सचु सवारणहारा ॥४॥२॥
O Nanak, the True One embellishes and exalts. ||4||2||

ਆਖਾ ਜੀਵਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
Aakhaa Jeevaa Visarai Mar Jaao ||
आखा जीवा विसरै मरि जाउ ॥
Chanting it, I live; forgetting it, I die.
ਆਖਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
Aakhan Aoukhaa Saachaa Naao ||
आखणि अउखा साचा नाउ ॥
It is so difficult to chant the True Name.
ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਭੂਖ ॥
Saachae Naam Kee Laagai Bhookh ||
साचे नाम की लागै भूख ॥
If someone feels hunger for the True Name,
ਉਤੁ ਭੂਖੈ ਖਾਇ ਚਲੀਅਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥੧॥
Outh Bhookhai Khaae Chaleeahi Dhookh ||1||
उतु भूखै खाइ चलीअहि दूख ॥१॥
That hunger shall consume his pain. ||1||
ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥
So Kio Visarai Maeree Maae ||
सो किउ विसरै मेरी माइ ॥
How can I forget Him, O my mother?
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Saachae Naam Kee Thil Vaddiaaee ||
साचे नाम की तिलु वडिआई ॥
Trying to describe even an iota of the Greatness of the True Name,
ਆਖਿ ਥਕੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
Aakh Thhakae Keemath Nehee Paaee ||
आखि थके कीमति नही पाई ॥
People have grown weary, but they have not been able to evaluate it.
ਜੇ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਆਖਣ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Jae Sabh Mil Kai Aakhan Paahi ||
जे सभि मिलि कै आखण पाहि ॥
Even if everyone were to gather together and speak of Him,
ਵਡਾ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਘਾਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
Vaddaa N Hovai Ghaatt N Jaae ||2||
वडा न होवै घाटि न जाइ ॥२॥
He would not become any greater or any lesser. ||2||
ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
Naa Ouhu Marai N Hovai Sog ||
ना ओहु मरै न होवै सोगु ॥
That Lord does not die; there is no reason to mourn.
ਦੇਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਭੋਗੁ ॥
Dhaedhaa Rehai N Chookai Bhog ||
देदा रहै न चूकै भोगु ॥
He continues to give, and His Provisions never run short.
ਗੁਣੁ ਏਹੋ ਹੋਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
Gun Eaeho Hor Naahee Koe ||
गुणु एहो होरु नाही कोइ ॥
This Virtue is His alone; there is no other like Him.
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਆ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
Naa Ko Hoaa Naa Ko Hoe ||3||
ना को होआ ना को होइ ॥३॥
There never has been, and there never will be. ||3||
ਜੇਵਡੁ ਆਪਿ ਤੇਵਡ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
Jaevadd Aap Thaevadd Thaeree Dhaath ||
जेवडु आपि तेवड तेरी दाति ॥
As Great as You Yourself are, O Lord, so Great are Your Gifts.
