चारे अगनि निवारि मरु गुरमुखि हरि जलु पाइ ॥

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਅਘਾਇ ॥
Anthar Kamal Pragaasiaa Anmrith Bhariaa Aghaae ||
अंतरि कमलु प्रगासिआ अम्रितु भरिआ अघाइ ॥
The lotus blossoms deep within the heart, and filled with Ambrosial Nectar, one is satisfied.

हरि हरि जपहु पिआरिआ गुरमति ले हरि बोलि ॥
Meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, O my beloved; follow the Guru's Teachings, and speak of the Lord.
ਮਨੁ ਸਚ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਈਐ ਤੁਲੀਐ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੋਲਿ ॥
Man Sach Kasavattee Laaeeai Thuleeai Poorai Thol ||
मनु सच कसवटी लाईऐ तुलीऐ पूरै तोलि ॥
Apply the Touchstone of Truth to your mind, and see if it comes up to its full weight.

कीमति किनै न पाईऐ रिद माणक मोलि अमोलि ॥१॥
No one has found the worth of the ruby of the heart; its value cannot be estimated. ||1||

ਸਚੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਲੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥

सचु वखरु धनु रासि लै पाईऐ गुर परगासि ॥
The True Merchandise, Wealth and Capital are obtained through the Radiant Light of the Guru.
ਜਿਉ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਰੈ ਜਲਿ ਪਾਇਐ ਤਿਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਿ ॥
Jio Agan Marai Jal Paaeiai Thio Thrisanaa Dhaasan Dhaas ||
जिउ अगनि मरै जलि पाइऐ तिउ त्रिसना दासनि दासि ॥
Just as fire is extinguished by pouring on water, desire becomes the slave of the Lord's slaves.
ਜਮ ਜੰਦਾਰੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਇਉ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ਤਰਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
Jam Jandhaar N Lagee Eio Bhoujal Tharai Tharaas ||2||
जम जंदारु न लगई इउ भउजलु तरै तरासि ॥२॥
The Messenger of Death will not touch you; in this way, you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean, carrying others across with you. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚ ਭਾਇ ॥
Guramukh Koorr N Bhaavee Sach Rathae Sach Bhaae ||
गुरमुखि कूड़ु न भावई सचि रते सच भाइ ॥
The Gurmukhs do not like falsehood. They are imbued with Truth; they love only Truth.
ਸਾਕਤ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਕੂੜੈ ਕੂੜੀ ਪਾਂਇ ॥
Saakath Sach N Bhaavee Koorrai Koorree Paane ||
साकत सचु न भावई कूड़ै कूड़ी पांइ ॥
The shaaktas, the faithless cynics, do not like the Truth; false are the foundations of the false.
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿਐ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
Sach Rathae Gur Maeliai Sachae Sach Samaae ||3||
सचि रते गुरि मेलिऐ सचे सचि समाइ ॥३॥
Imbued with Truth, you shall meet the Guru. The true ones are absorbed into the True Lord. ||3||
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਹੀਰੁ ॥
Man Mehi Maanak Laal Naam Rathan Padhaarathh Heer ||
मन महि माणकु लालु नामु रतनु पदारथु हीरु ॥
Within the mind are emeralds and rubies, the Jewel of the Naam, treasures and diamonds.
ਸਚੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ॥
Sach Vakhar Dhhan Naam Hai Ghatt Ghatt Gehir Ganbheer ||
सचु वखरु धनु नामु है घटि घटि गहिर ग्मभीरु ॥
The Naam is the True Merchandise and Wealth; in each and every heart, His Presence is deep and profound.

भरमे भाहि न विझवै जे भवै दिसंतर देसु ॥
The fire of doubt is not extinguished, even by wandering through foreign lands and countries.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਵੇਸੁ ॥

अंतरि मैलु न उतरै ध्रिगु जीवणु ध्रिगु वेसु ॥
If inner filth is not removed, one's life is cursed, and one's clothes are cursed.
ਹੋਰੁ ਕਿਤੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ ॥੧॥

होरु कितै भगति न होवई बिनु सतिगुर के उपदेस ॥१॥
There is no other way to perform devotional worship, except through the Teachings of the True Guru. ||1||

मनु माणकु निरमोलु है राम नामि पति पाइ ॥
The jewel of the mind is priceless; through the Name of the Lord, honor is obtained.

मिलि सतसंगति हरि पाईऐ गुरमुखि हरि लिव लाइ ॥
Join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and find the Lord. The Gurmukh embraces love for the Lord.
ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਲਲੈ ਸਲਲ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
Aap Gaeiaa Sukh Paaeiaa Mil Salalai Salal Samaae ||2||
आपु गइआ सुखु पाइआ मिलि सललै सलल समाइ ॥२॥
Give up your selfishness, and you shall find peace; like water mingling with water, you shall merge in absorption. ||2||
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਸੁ ਅਉਗੁਣਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
Jin Har Har Naam N Chaethiou S Aougun Aavai Jaae ||
जिनि हरि हरि नामु न चेतिओ सु अउगुणि आवै जाइ ॥
Those who have not contemplated the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, are unworthy; they come and go in reincarnation.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੁ ਭਉਜਲਿ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਇ ॥
Jis Sathagur Purakh N Bhaettiou S Bhoujal Pachai Pachaae ||
जिसु सतगुरु पुरखु न भेटिओ सु भउजलि पचै पचाइ ॥
One who has not met with the True Guru, the Primal Being, is bothered and bewildered in the terrifying world-ocean.
ਇਹੁ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਜੀਉ ਨਿਰਮੋਲੁ ਹੈ ਇਉ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
Eihu Maanak Jeeo Niramol Hai Eio Kouddee Badhalai Jaae ||3||
इहु माणकु जीउ निरमोलु है इउ कउडी बदलै जाइ ॥३॥
This jewel of the soul is priceless, and yet it is being squandered like this, in exchange for a mere shell. ||3||
ਜਿੰਨਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਰਸਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਜਾਣ ॥
Jinnaa Sathagur Ras Milai Sae Poorae Purakh Sujaan ||
जिंना सतगुरु रसि मिलै से पूरे पुरख सुजाण ॥
Those who joyfully meet with the True Guru are perfectly fulfilled and wise.
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਲੰਘੀਐ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
Gur Mil Bhoujal Langheeai Dharageh Path Paravaan ||
गुर मिलि भउजलु लंघीऐ दरगह पति परवाणु ॥
Meeting with the Guru, they cross over the terrifying world-ocean. In the Court of the Lord, they are honored and approved.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੨੨॥
Naanak Thae Mukh Oujalae Dhhun Oupajai Sabadh Neesaan ||4||22||
नानक ते मुख उजले धुनि उपजै सबदु नीसाणु ॥४॥२२॥
O Nanak, their faces are radiant; the Music of the Shabad, the Word of God, wells up within them. ||4||22||

Thaisee Vasath Visaaheeai Jaisee Nibehai Naal ||
तैसी वसतु विसाहीऐ जैसी निबहै नालि ॥
Buy that object which will go along with you.
ਅਗੈ ਸਾਹੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਲੈਸੀ ਵਸਤੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

अगै साहु सुजाणु है लैसी वसतु समालि ॥१॥
In the next world, the All-knowing Merchant will take this object and care for it. ||1||
