Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:
ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਪਪੋਲੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਬੁਝੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਜਾਣਿ ॥
Bhalakae Outh Papoleeai Vin Bujhae Mugadhh Ajaan ||
भलके उठि पपोलीऐ विणु बुझे मुगध अजाणि ॥
Arising each day, you cherish your body, but you are idiotic, ignorant and without understanding.
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਛੁਟੈਗੀ ਬੇਬਾਣਿ ॥
So Prabh Chith N Aaeiou Shhuttaigee Baebaan ||
सो प्रभु चिति न आइओ छुटैगी बेबाणि ॥
You are not conscious of God, and your body shall be cast into the wilderness.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਿ ॥੧॥
Sathigur Saethee Chith Laae Sadhaa Sadhaa Rang Maan ||1||
सतिगुर सेती चितु लाइ सदा सदा रंगु माणि ॥१॥
Focus your consciousness on the True Guru; you shall enjoy bliss forever and ever. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਇਆ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈਣਿ ॥
Praanee Thoon Aaeiaa Laahaa Lain ||
प्राणी तूं आइआ लाहा लैणि ॥
O mortal, you came here to earn a profit.
ਲਗਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਕੁਫਕੜੇ ਸਭ ਮੁਕਦੀ ਚਲੀ ਰੈਣਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Lagaa Kith Kufakarrae Sabh Mukadhee Chalee Rain ||1|| Rehaao ||
लगा कितु कुफकड़े सभ मुकदी चली रैणि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
What useless activities are you attached to? Your life-night is coming to its end. ||1||Pause||
ਕੁਦਮ ਕਰੇ ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀਆ ਦਿਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਲੁ ॥
Kudham Karae Pas Pankheeaa Dhisai Naahee Kaal ||
कुदम करे पसु पंखीआ दिसै नाही कालु ॥
The animals and the birds frolic and play-they do not see death.
ਓਤੈ ਸਾਥਿ ਮਨੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਫਾਥਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲਿ ॥
Outhai Saathh Manukh Hai Faathhaa Maaeiaa Jaal ||
ओतै साथि मनुखु है फाथा माइआ जालि ॥
Mankind is also with them, trapped in the net of Maya.
ਮੁਕਤੇ ਸੇਈ ਭਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਜਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
Mukathae Saeee Bhaaleeahi J Sachaa Naam Samaal ||2||
मुकते सेई भालीअहि जि सचा नामु समालि ॥२॥
Those who always remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are considered to be liberated. ||2||
ਜੋ ਘਰੁ ਛਡਿ ਗਵਾਵਣਾ ਸੋ ਲਗਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Jo Ghar Shhadd Gavaavanaa So Lagaa Man Maahi ||
जो घरु छडि गवावणा सो लगा मन माहि ॥
That dwelling which you will have to abandon and vacate-you are attached to it in your mind.
ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਰਤਣਾ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Jithhai Jaae Thudhh Varathanaa This Kee Chinthaa Naahi ||
जिथै जाइ तुधु वरतणा तिस की चिंता नाहि ॥
And that place where you must go to dwell-you have no regard for it at all.
ਫਾਥੇ ਸੇਈ ਨਿਕਲੇ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
Faathhae Saeee Nikalae J Gur Kee Pairee Paahi ||3||
फाथे सेई निकले जि गुर की पैरी पाहि ॥३॥
Those who fall at the Feet of the Guru are released from this bondage. ||3||
ਕੋਈ ਰਖਿ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਨ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
Koee Rakh N Sakee Dhoojaa Ko N Dhikhaae ||
कोई रखि न सकई दूजा को न दिखाइ ॥
No one else can save you-don't look for anyone else.
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਾਲਿ ਕੈ ਆਇ ਪਇਆ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥
Chaarae Kunddaa Bhaal Kai Aae Paeiaa Saranaae ||
चारे कुंडा भालि कै आइ पइआ सरणाइ ॥
I have searched in all four directions; I have come to find His Sanctuary.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੈ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਿ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਲਇਆ ਕਢਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੭੩॥
Naanak Sachai Paathisaahi Ddubadhaa Laeiaa Kadtaae ||4||3||73||
नानक सचै पातिसाहि डुबदा लइआ कढाइ ॥४॥३॥७३॥
O Nanak, the True King has pulled me out and saved me from drowning! ||4||3||73||

ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਕਾ ਪਾਹੁਣਾ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Gharree Muhath Kaa Paahunaa Kaaj Savaaranehaar ||
घड़ी मुहत का पाहुणा काज सवारणहारु ॥
For a brief moment, man is a guest of the Lord; he tries to resolve his affairs.
ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਸਮਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
Maaeiaa Kaam Viaapiaa Samajhai Naahee Gaavaar ||
माइआ कामि विआपिआ समझै नाही गावारु ॥
Engrossed in Maya and sexual desire, the fool does not understand.
ਉਠਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਆ ਪਰਿਆ ਵਸਿ ਜੰਦਾਰ ॥੧॥
Outh Chaliaa Pashhuthaaeiaa Pariaa Vas Jandhaar ||1||
उठि चलिआ पछुताइआ परिआ वसि जंदार ॥१॥
He arises and departs with regret, and falls into the clutches of the Messenger of Death. ||1||
ਅੰਧੇ ਤੂੰ ਬੈਠਾ ਕੰਧੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Andhhae Thoon Baithaa Kandhhee Paahi ||
अंधे तूं बैठा कंधी पाहि ॥
You are sitting on the collapsing riverbank-are you blind?
ਜੇ ਹੋਵੀ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jae Hovee Poorab Likhiaa Thaa Gur Kaa Bachan Kamaahi ||1|| Rehaao ||
जे होवी पूरबि लिखिआ ता गुर का बचनु कमाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
If you are so pre-destined, then act according to the Guru's Teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਹ ਡਡੁਰੀ ਪਕੀ ਵਢਣਹਾਰ ॥
Haree Naahee Neh Ddadduree Pakee Vadtanehaar ||
हरी नाही नह डडुरी पकी वढणहार ॥
The Reaper does not look upon any as unripe, half-ripe or fully ripe.
ਲੈ ਲੈ ਦਾਤ ਪਹੁਤਿਆ ਲਾਵੇ ਕਰਿ ਤਈਆਰੁ ॥
Lai Lai Dhaath Pahuthiaa Laavae Kar Theeaar ||
लै लै दात पहुतिआ लावे करि तईआरु ॥
Picking up and wielding their sickles, the harvesters arrive.
ਜਾ ਹੋਆ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਿਰਸਾਣ ਦਾ ਤਾ ਲੁਣਿ ਮਿਣਿਆ ਖੇਤਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
Jaa Hoaa Hukam Kirasaan Dhaa Thaa Lun Miniaa Khaethaar ||2||
जा होआ हुकमु किरसाण दा ता लुणि मिणिआ खेतारु ॥२॥
When the landlord gives the order, they cut and measure the crop. ||2||
ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਹਰੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਗਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਿ ਸੋਇਆ ॥
Pehilaa Pehar Dhhandhhai Gaeiaa Dhoojai Bhar Soeiaa ||
पहिला पहरु धंधै गइआ दूजै भरि सोइआ ॥
The first watch of the night passes away in worthless affairs, and the second passes in deep sleep.
ਤੀਜੈ ਝਾਖ ਝਖਾਇਆ ਚਉਥੈ ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
Theejai Jhaakh Jhakhaaeiaa Chouthhai Bhor Bhaeiaa ||
तीजै झाख झखाइआ चउथै भोरु भइआ ॥
In the third, they babble nonsense, and when the fourth watch comes, the day of death has arrived.
ਕਦ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੀਆ ॥੩॥
Kadh Hee Chith N Aaeiou Jin Jeeo Pindd Dheeaa ||3||
कद ही चिति न आइओ जिनि जीउ पिंडु दीआ ॥३॥
The thought of the One who bestows body and soul never enters the mind. ||3||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜੀਉ ਕੀਆ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
Saadhhasangath Ko Vaariaa Jeeo Keeaa Kurabaan ||
साधसंगति कउ वारिआ जीउ कीआ कुरबाणु ॥
I am devoted to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; I sacrifice my soul to them.
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਮਨਿ ਪਈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥
Jis Thae Sojhee Man Pee Miliaa Purakh Sujaan ||
जिस ते सोझी मनि पई मिलिआ पुरखु सुजाणु ॥
Through them, understanding has entered my mind, and I have met the All-knowing Lord God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਡਿਠਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੭੪॥
Naanak Ddithaa Sadhaa Naal Har Antharajaamee Jaan ||4||4||74||
नानक डिठा सदा नालि हरि अंतरजामी जाणु ॥४॥४॥७४॥
Nanak sees the Lord always with him-the Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||4||74||

सभे गला विसरनु इको विसरि न जाउ ॥
Let me forget everything, but let me not forget the One Lord.
ਧੰਧਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਲਾਇ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
Dhhandhhaa Sabh Jalaae Kai Gur Naam Dheeaa Sach Suaao ||
धंधा सभु जलाइ कै गुरि नामु दीआ सचु सुआउ ॥
All my evil pursuits have been burnt away; the Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the true object of life.
ਆਸਾ ਸਭੇ ਲਾਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਕਾ ਆਸ ਕਮਾਉ ॥
Aasaa Sabhae Laahi Kai Eikaa Aas Kamaao ||
आसा सभे लाहि कै इका आस कमाउ ॥
Give up all other hopes, and rely on the One Hope.
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅਗੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥
Jinee Sathigur Saeviaa Thin Agai Miliaa Thhaao ||1||
जिनी सतिगुरु सेविआ तिन अगै मिलिआ थाउ ॥१॥
Those who serve the True Guru receive a place in the world hereafter. ||1||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥
Man Maerae Karathae No Saalaahi ||
मन मेरे करते नो सालाहि ॥
O my mind, praise the Creator.
ਸਭੇ ਛਡਿ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sabhae Shhadd Siaanapaa Gur Kee Pairee Paahi ||1|| Rehaao ||
सभे छडि सिआणपा गुर की पैरी पाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Give up all your clever tricks, and fall at the Feet of the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਜੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Dhukh Bhukh Neh Viaapee Jae Sukhadhaathaa Man Hoe ||
दुख भुख नह विआपई जे सुखदाता मनि होइ ॥
Pain and hunger shall not oppress you, if the Giver of Peace comes into your mind.
ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਛਿਜੀਐ ਜਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
Kith Hee Kanm N Shhijeeai Jaa Hiradhai Sachaa Soe ||
कित ही कमि न छिजीऐ जा हिरदै सचा सोइ ॥
No undertaking shall fail, when the True Lord is always in your heart.
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਖਹਿ ਹਥ ਦੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
Jis Thoon Rakhehi Hathh Dhae This Maar N Sakai Koe ||
जिसु तूं रखहि हथ दे तिसु मारि न सकै कोइ ॥
No one can kill that one unto whom You, Lord, give Your Hand and protect.
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥੨॥
Sukhadhaathaa Gur Saeveeai Sabh Avagan Kadtai Dhhoe ||2||
सुखदाता गुरु सेवीऐ सभि अवगण कढै धोइ ॥२॥
Serve the Guru, the Giver of Peace; He shall remove and wash off all your faults. ||2||
ਸੇਵਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਸੇਵਕੋ ਲਾਈਆਂ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
Saevaa Mangai Saevako Laaeeaaan Apunee Saev ||
सेवा मंगै सेवको लाईआं अपुनी सेव ॥
Your servant begs to serve those who are enjoined to Your service.
