Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
ਈਧਨ ਤੇ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
Eaneedhhan Thae Baisanthar Bhaagai ||
ईंधन ते बैसंतरु भागै ॥
The fire runs away from the fuel.
ਮਾਟੀ ਕਉ ਜਲੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਤਿਆਗੈ ॥
Maattee Ko Jal Dheh Dhis Thiaagai ||
माटी कउ जलु दह दिस तिआगै ॥
The water runs away from the dust in all directions.
ਊਪਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਤਲੈ ਆਕਾਸੁ ॥
Oopar Charan Thalai Aakaas ||
ऊपरि चरन तलै आकासु ॥
The feet are above, and the sky is beneath.
ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਕੀਓ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
Ghatt Mehi Sindhh Keeou Paragaas ||1||
घट महि सिंधु कीओ परगासु ॥१॥
The ocean appears in the cup. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ॥
Aisaa Sanmrathh Har Jeeo Aap ||
ऐसा सम्रथु हरि जीउ आपि ॥
Such is our all-powerful dear Lord.
ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਜੀਅ ਭਗਤਨ ਕੈ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਨ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਜਾਪਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Nimakh N Bisarai Jeea Bhagathan Kai Aath Pehar Man Thaa Ko Jaap ||1|| Rehaao ||
निमख न बिसरै जीअ भगतन कै आठ पहर मन ता कउ जापि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
His devotees do not forget Him, even for an instant. Twenty-four hours a day, O mind, meditate on Him. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਮਾਖਨੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਦੂਧੁ ॥
Prathhamae Maakhan Paashhai Dhoodhh ||
प्रथमे माखनु पाछै दूधु ॥
First comes the butter, and then the milk.
ਮੈਲੂ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਾਬੁਨੁ ਸੂਧੁ ॥
Mailoo Keeno Saabun Soodhh ||
मैलू कीनो साबुनु सूधु ॥
The dirt cleans the soap.
ਭੈ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਡਰਤਾ ਫਿਰੈ ॥
Bhai Thae Nirabho Ddarathaa Firai ||
भै ते निरभउ डरता फिरै ॥
The fearless are afraid of fear.
ਹੋਂਦੀ ਕਉ ਅਣਹੋਂਦੀ ਹਿਰੈ ॥੨॥
Honadhee Ko Anehonadhee Hirai ||2||
होंदी कउ अणहोंदी हिरै ॥२॥
The living are killed by the dead. ||2||
ਦੇਹੀ ਗੁਪਤ ਬਿਦੇਹੀ ਦੀਸੈ ॥
Dhaehee Gupath Bidhaehee Dheesai ||
देही गुपत बिदेही दीसै ॥
The visible body is hidden, and the etheric body is seen.
ਸਗਲੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਕਰਤ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥
Sagalae Saaj Karath Jagadheesai ||
सगले साजि करत जगदीसै ॥
The Lord of the world does all these things.
ਠਗਣਹਾਰ ਅਣਠਗਦਾ ਠਾਗੈ ॥
Thaganehaar Anathagadhaa Thaagai ||
ठगणहार अणठगदा ठागै ॥
The one who is cheated, is not cheated by the cheat.
ਬਿਨੁ ਵਖਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਉਠਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੩॥
Bin Vakhar Fir Fir Outh Laagai ||3||
बिनु वखर फिरि फिरि उठि लागै ॥३॥
With no merchandise, the trader trades again and again. ||3||
ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬਖਿਆਣ ॥
Santh Sabhaa Mil Karahu Bakhiaan ||
संत सभा मिलि करहु बखिआण ॥
So join the Society of the Saints, and chant the Lord's Name.
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥
Sinmrith Saasath Baedh Puraan ||
सिम्रिति सासत बेद पुराण ॥
So say the Simritees, Shaastras, Vedas and Puraanas.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਕੋਇ ॥
Breham Beechaar Beechaarae Koe ||
ब्रहम बीचारु बीचारे कोइ ॥
Rare are those who contemplate and meditate on God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੪੩॥੫੪॥

नानक ता की परम गति होइ ॥४॥४३॥५४॥
O Nanak, they attain the supreme status. ||4||43||54||

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਆ ॥
Jo This Bhaavai So Thheeaa ||
जो तिसु भावै सो थीआ ॥
Whatever pleases Him happens.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਨ ਬੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sadhaa Sadhaa Har Kee Saranaaee Prabh Bin Naahee Aan Beeaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
सदा सदा हरि की सरणाई प्रभ बिनु नाही आन बीआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Forever and ever, I seek the Sanctuary of the Lord.There is none other than God. ||1||Pause||
ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤ੍ਰੁ ਲਖਿਮੀ ਦੀਸੈ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੀਆ ॥
Puth Kalathra Lakhimee Dheesai Ein Mehi Kishhoo N Sang Leeaa ||
पुतु कलत्रु लखिमी दीसै इन महि किछू न संगि लीआ ॥
You look upon your children, spouse and wealth; none of these will go along with you.
ਬਿਖੈ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਖਾਇ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੧॥
Bikhai Thagouree Khaae Bhulaanaa Maaeiaa Mandhar Thiaag Gaeiaa ||1||
बिखै ठगउरी खाइ भुलाना माइआ मंदरु तिआगि गइआ ॥१॥
Eating the poisonous potion, you have gone astray. You will have to go, and leave Maya and your mansions. ||1||
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਪਇਆ ॥
Nindhaa Kar Kar Bahuth Vigoothaa Garabh Jon Mehi Kirath Paeiaa ||
निंदा करि करि बहुतु विगूता गरभ जोनि महि किरति पइआ ॥
Slandering others, you are totally ruined; because of your past actions, you shall be consigned to the womb of reincarnation.
ਪੁਰਬ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮਦੂਤਿ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਿਓ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆ ॥੨॥
Purab Kamaanae Shhoddehi Naahee Jamadhooth Graasiou Mehaa Bhaeiaa ||2||
पुरब कमाणे छोडहि नाही जमदूति ग्रासिओ महा भइआ ॥२॥
Your past actions will not just go away; the most horrible Messenger of Death shall seize you. ||2||
ਬੋਲੈ ਝੂਠੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਅਵਰਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਹਇਆ ॥
Bolai Jhooth Kamaavai Avaraa Thrisan N Boojhai Bahuth Haeiaa ||
बोलै झूठु कमावै अवरा त्रिसन न बूझै बहुतु हइआ ॥
You tell lies, and do not practice what you preach. Your desires are not satisfied - what a shame.
ਅਸਾਧ ਰੋਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਸੰਤ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਮਹਾ ਖਇਆ ॥੩॥
Asaadhh Rog Oupajiaa Santh Dhookhan Dhaeh Binaasee Mehaa Khaeiaa ||3||
असाध रोगु उपजिआ संत दूखनि देह बिनासी महा खइआ ॥३॥
You have contracted an incurable disease; slandering the Saints, your body is wasting away; you are utterly ruined. ||3||
ਜਿਨਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸਾਜੇ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਇਆ ॥
Jinehi Nivaajae Thin Hee Saajae Aapae Keenae Santh Jaeiaa ||
जिनहि निवाजे तिन ही साजे आपे कीने संत जइआ ॥
He embellishes those whom He has fashioned. He Himself gave life to the Saints.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮਇਆ ॥੪॥੪੪॥੫੫॥
Naanak Dhaas Kanth Laae Raakhae Kar Kirapaa Paarabreham Maeiaa ||4||44||55||
नानक दास कंठि लाइ राखे करि किरपा पारब्रहम मइआ ॥४॥४४॥५५॥
O Nanak, He hugs His slaves close in His Embrace. Please grant Your Grace, O Supreme Lord God, and be kind to me as well. ||4||44||55||

ਐਸਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰਦੇਉ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
Aisaa Pooraa Guradhaeo Sehaaee ||
ऐसा पूरा गुरदेउ सहाई ॥
Such is the Perfect Divine Guru, my help and support.
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jaa Kaa Simaran Birathhaa N Jaaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
जा का सिमरनु बिरथा न जाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Meditation on Him is not wasted. ||1||Pause||
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥
Dharasan Paekhath Hoe Nihaal ||
दरसनु पेखत होइ निहालु ॥
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, I am enraptured.
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਾਟੈ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੁ ॥
Jaa Kee Dhhoor Kaattai Jam Jaal ||
जा की धूरि काटै जम जालु ॥
The dust of His feet snaps the noose of Death.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਬਸੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੇ ॥
Charan Kamal Basae Maerae Man Kae ||
चरन कमल बसे मेरे मन के ॥
His lotus feet dwell within my mind,
ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਤਨ ਕੇ ॥੧॥
Kaaraj Savaarae Sagalae Than Kae ||1||
कारज सवारे सगले तन के ॥१॥
And so all the affairs of my body are arranged and resolved. ||1||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਾਥੁ ॥
Jaa Kai Masathak Raakhai Haathh ||
जा कै मसतकि राखै हाथु ॥
One upon whom He places His Hand, is protected.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਅਨਾਥ ਕੋ ਨਾਥੁ ॥
Prabh Maero Anaathh Ko Naathh ||
प्रभु मेरो अनाथ को नाथु ॥
My God is the Master of the masterless.
ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
Pathith Oudhhaaran Kirapaa Nidhhaan ||
पतित उधारणु क्रिपा निधानु ॥
He is the Savior of sinners, the treasure of mercy.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
Sadhaa Sadhaa Jaaeeai Kurabaan ||2||
सदा सदा जाईऐ कुरबानु ॥२॥
Forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to Him. ||2||
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੰਤੁ ਦੇਇ ਜਿਸੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
Niramal Manth Dhaee Jis Dhaan ||
निरमल मंतु देइ जिसु दानु ॥
One whom He blesses with His Immaculate Mantra,
ਤਜਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
Thajehi Bikaar Binasai Abhimaan ||
तजहि बिकार बिनसै अभिमानु ॥
Renounces corruption; his egotistical pride is dispelled.
ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
Eaek Dhhiaaeeai Saadhh Kai Sang ||
एकु धिआईऐ साध कै संगि ॥
Meditate on the One Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਪਾਪ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੩॥
Paap Binaasae Naam Kai Rang ||3||
पाप बिनासे नाम कै रंगि ॥३॥
Sins are erased, through the love of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
Gur Paramaesur Sagal Nivaas ||
गुर परमेसुर सगल निवास ॥
The Guru, the Transcendent Lord, dwells among all.
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ॥
Ghatt Ghatt Rav Rehiaa Gunathaas ||
घटि घटि रवि रहिआ गुणतास ॥
The treasure of virtue pervades and permeates each and every heart.
ਦਰਸੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਧਾਰਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਸ ॥
Dharas Dhaehi Dhhaaro Prabh Aas ||
दरसु देहि धारउ प्रभ आस ॥
Please grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan;
ਨਿਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੪੫॥੫੬॥
Nith Naanak Chithavai Sach Aradhaas ||4||45||56||
नित नानकु चितवै सचु अरदासि ॥४॥४५॥५६॥
O God, I place my hopes in You. Nanak continually offers this true prayer. ||4||45||56||
