मन कठोरु अजहू न पतीना ॥
Even then, his hardened mind was not satisfied.

ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਨਸੁ ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਦੇਉ ॥
Naa Eihu Maanas Naa Eihu Dhaeo ||
ना इहु मानसु ना इहु देउ ॥
It is not human, and it is not a god.
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜਤੀ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੇਉ ॥
Naa Eihu Jathee Kehaavai Saeo ||
ना इहु जती कहावै सेउ ॥
It is not called celibate, or a worshipper of Shiva.
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਨਾ ਅਵਧੂਤਾ ॥
Naa Eihu Jogee Naa Avadhhoothaa ||
ना इहु जोगी ना अवधूता ॥
It is not a Yogi, and it is not a hermit.
ਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਇ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਪੂਤਾ ॥੧॥
Naa Eis Maae N Kaahoo Poothaa ||1||
ना इसु माइ न काहू पूता ॥१॥
It is not a mother, or anyone's son. ||1||
ਇਆ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਕੌਨ ਬਸਾਈ ॥
Eiaa Mandhar Mehi Kaan Basaaee ||
इआ मंदर महि कौन बसाई ॥
Then what is it, which dwells in this temple of the body?
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ता का अंतु न कोऊ पाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
No one can find its limits. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਨਾ ਓਦਾਸੀ ॥
Naa Eihu Girehee Naa Oudhaasee ||
ना इहु गिरही ना ओदासी ॥
It is not a house-holder, and it is not a renouncer of the world.
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਰਾਜ ਨ ਭੀਖ ਮੰਗਾਸੀ ॥
Naa Eihu Raaj N Bheekh Mangaasee ||
ना इहु राज न भीख मंगासी ॥
It is not a king, and it is not a beggar.
ਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਨ ਰਕਤੂ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
Naa Eis Pindd N Rakathoo Raathee ||
ना इसु पिंडु न रकतू राती ॥
It has no body, no drop of blood.
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਨੁ ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਖਾਤੀ ॥੨॥
Naa Eihu Brehaman Naa Eihu Khaathee ||2||
ना इहु ब्रहमनु ना इहु खाती ॥२॥
It is not a Brahmin, and it is not a Kh'shaatriya. ||2||
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਤਪਾ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੇਖੁ ॥
Naa Eihu Thapaa Kehaavai Saekh ||
ना इहु तपा कहावै सेखु ॥
It is not called a man of austere self-discipline, or a Shaykh.
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਨ ਮਰਤਾ ਦੇਖੁ ॥
Naa Eihu Jeevai N Marathaa Dhaekh ||
ना इहु जीवै न मरता देखु ॥
It does not live, and it is not seen to die.
ਇਸੁ ਮਰਤੇ ਕਉ ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
Eis Marathae Ko Jae Kooo Rovai ||
इसु मरते कउ जे कोऊ रोवै ॥
If someone cries over its death,
ਜੋ ਰੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਵੈ ॥੩॥
Jo Rovai Soee Path Khovai ||3||
जो रोवै सोई पति खोवै ॥३॥
That person loses his honor. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੈ ਡਗਰੋ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Gur Prasaadh Mai Ddagaro Paaeiaa ||
गुर प्रसादि मै डगरो पाइआ ॥
By Guru's Grace, I have found the Path.
ਜੀਵਨ ਮਰਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਮਿਟਵਾਇਆ ॥
Jeevan Maran Dhooo Mittavaaeiaa ||
जीवन मरनु दोऊ मिटवाइआ ॥
Birth and death have both been erased.
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਅੰਸੁ ॥
Kahu Kabeer Eihu Raam Kee Ans ||
कहु कबीर इहु राम की अंसु ॥
Says Kabeer, this is formed of the same essence as the Lord.
ਜਸ ਕਾਗਦ ਪਰ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਮੰਸੁ ॥੪॥੨॥੫॥

जस कागद पर मिटै न मंसु ॥४॥२॥५॥
It is like the ink on the paper which cannot be erased. ||4||2||5||

The threads are broken, and the starch has run out.
ਦੁਆਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਝਿਲਕਾਵਹਿ ਕਾਨ ॥
Dhuaar Oopar Jhilakaavehi Kaan ||
दुआर ऊपरि झिलकावहि कान ॥
Bare reeds glisten at the front door.
ਕੂਚ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ਫੂਏ ਫਾਲ ॥
Kooch Bichaarae Fooeae Faal ||
कूच बिचारे फूए फाल ॥
The poor brushes are scattered in pieces.
ਇਆ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਚਢਿਬੋ ਕਾਲ ॥੧॥
Eiaa Munddeeaa Sir Chadtibo Kaal ||1||
इआ मुंडीआ सिरि चढिबो काल ॥१॥
Death has entered this shaven head. ||1||
ਇਹੁ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਸਗਲੋ ਦ੍ਰਬੁ ਖੋਈ ॥
Eihu Munddeeaa Sagalo Dhrab Khoee ||
इहु मुंडीआ सगलो द्रबु खोई ॥
This shaven-headed mendicant has wasted all his wealth.
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਨਾਕ ਸਰ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Aavath Jaath Naak Sar Hoee ||1|| Rehaao ||
आवत जात नाक सर होई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
All this coming and going has irritated him. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਰੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਕੀ ਛੋਡੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
Thuree Naar Kee Shhoddee Baathaa ||
तुरी नारि की छोडी बाता ॥
He has given up all talk of his weaving equipment.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਵਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
Raam Naam Vaa Kaa Man Raathaa ||
राम नाम वा का मनु राता ॥
His mind is attuned to the Lord's Name.
ਲਰਿਕੀ ਲਰਿਕਨ ਖੈਬੋ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Larikee Larikan Khaibo Naahi ||
लरिकी लरिकन खैबो नाहि ॥
His daughters and sons have nothing to eat,
ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਧਾਪੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
Munddeeaa Anadhin Dhhaapae Jaahi ||2||
मुंडीआ अनदिनु धापे जाहि ॥२॥
While the shaven-headed mendicants night and day eat their fill. ||2||
ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਬਾਟ ॥
Eik Dhue Mandhar Eik Dhue Baatt ||
इक दुइ मंदरि इक दुइ बाट ॥
One or two are in the house, and one or two more are on the way.
ਹਮ ਕਉ ਸਾਥਰੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਖਾਟ ॥
Ham Ko Saathhar Oun Ko Khaatt ||
हम कउ साथरु उन कउ खाट ॥
We sleep on the floor, while they sleep in the beds.
ਮੂਡ ਪਲੋਸਿ ਕਮਰ ਬਧਿ ਪੋਥੀ ॥
Moodd Palos Kamar Badhh Pothhee ||
मूड पलोसि कमर बधि पोथी ॥
They rub their bare heads, and carry prayer-books in their waist-bands.
ਹਮ ਕਉ ਚਾਬਨੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਰੋਟੀ ॥੩॥
Ham Ko Chaaban Oun Ko Rottee ||3||
हम कउ चाबनु उन कउ रोटी ॥३॥
We get dry grains, while they get loaves of bread. ||3||
ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਹੂਏ ਏਕ ॥
Munddeeaa Munddeeaa Hooeae Eaek ||
मुंडीआ मुंडीआ हूए एक ॥
He will become one of these shaven-headed mendicants.
ਏ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਬੂਡਤ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ॥
Eae Munddeeaa Booddath Kee Ttaek ||
ए मुंडीआ बूडत की टेक ॥
They are the support of the drowning.
ਸੁਨਿ ਅੰਧਲੀ ਲੋਈ ਬੇਪੀਰਿ ॥
Sun Andhhalee Loee Baepeer ||
सुनि अंधली लोई बेपीरि ॥
Listen, O blind and unguided Loi:
ਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮੁੰਡੀਅਨ ਭਜਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੪॥੩॥੬॥

ਖਸਮੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਉ ਨਾਰਿ ਨ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
Khasam Marai Tho Naar N Rovai ||
खसमु मरै तउ नारि न रोवै ॥
When her husband dies, the woman does not cry.
ਉਸੁ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ਅਉਰੋ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
Ous Rakhavaaraa Aouro Hovai ||
उसु रखवारा अउरो होवै ॥
Someone else becomes her protector.
ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
Rakhavaarae Kaa Hoe Binaas ||
रखवारे का होइ बिनास ॥
When this protector dies,
ਆਗੈ ਨਰਕੁ ਈਹਾ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ॥੧॥
Aagai Narak Eehaa Bhog Bilaas ||1||
आगै नरकु ईहा भोग बिलास ॥१॥
He falls into the world of hell hereafter, for the sexual pleasures he enjoyed in this world. ||1||
ਏਕ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥

एक सुहागनि जगत पिआरी ॥
The world loves only the one bride, Maya.
ਸਗਲੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सगले जीअ जंत की नारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
She is the wife of all beings and creatures. ||1||Pause||
ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਗਲਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਹਾਰੁ ॥
Sohaagan Gal Sohai Haar ||
सोहागनि गलि सोहै हारु ॥
With her necklace around her neck, this bride looks beautiful.
ਸੰਤ ਕਉ ਬਿਖੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
Santh Ko Bikh Bigasai Sansaar ||
संत कउ बिखु बिगसै संसारु ॥
She is poison to the Saint, but the world is delighted with her.
ਕਰਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਹੈ ਪਖਿਆਰੀ ॥
Kar Seegaar Behai Pakhiaaree ||
करि सीगारु बहै पखिआरी ॥
Adorning herself, she sits like a prostitute.
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਠਿਠਕੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
Santh Kee Thithakee Firai Bichaaree ||2||
संत की ठिठकी फिरै बिचारी ॥२॥
Cursed by the Saints, she wanders around like a wretch. ||2||
ਸੰਤ ਭਾਗਿ ਓਹ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਰੈ ॥
Santh Bhaag Ouh Paashhai Parai ||
संत भागि ओह पाछै परै ॥
She runs around, chasing after the Saints.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਾਰਹੁ ਡਰੈ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Maarahu Ddarai ||
गुर परसादी मारहु डरै ॥
She is afraid of being beaten by those blessed with the Guru's Grace.
ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਓਹ ਪਿੰਡ ਪਰਾਇਣਿ ॥
Saakath Kee Ouh Pindd Paraaein ||
साकत की ओह पिंड पराइणि ॥
She is the body, the breath of life, of the faithless cynics.
ਹਮ ਕਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਖਿ ਡਾਇਣਿ ॥੩॥
Ham Ko Dhrisatt Parai Thrakh Ddaaein ||3||
हम कउ द्रिसटि परै त्रखि डाइणि ॥३॥
She appears to me like a blood-thirsty witch. ||3||
ਹਮ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਬਹੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਭੇਉ ॥
Ham This Kaa Bahu Jaaniaa Bhaeo ||
हम तिस का बहु जानिआ भेउ ॥
I know her secrets well
ਜਬ ਹੂਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਉ ॥
Jab Hooeae Kirapaal Milae Guradhaeo ||
जब हूए क्रिपाल मिले गुरदेउ ॥
In His Mercy, the Divine Guru met me.
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਬ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪਰੀ ॥

कहु कबीर अब बाहरि परी ॥
Says Kabeer, now I have thrown her out.
