संतु मिलै किछु सुनीऐ कहीऐ ॥
When you meet a Saint, talk to him and listen.
ਮਿਲੈ ਅਸੰਤੁ ਮਸਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥

मिलै असंतु मसटि करि रहीऐ ॥१॥
Meeting with an unsaintly person, just remain silent. ||1||
ਬਾਬਾ ਬੋਲਨਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ॥

बाबा बोलना किआ कहीऐ ॥
O father, if I speak, what words should I utter?
ਜੈਸੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jaisae Raam Naam Rav Reheeai ||1|| Rehaao ||
जैसे राम नाम रवि रहीऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Speak such words, by which you may remain absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤਨ ਸਿਉ ਬੋਲੇ ਉਪਕਾਰੀ ॥
Santhan Sio Bolae Oupakaaree ||
संतन सिउ बोले उपकारी ॥
Speaking with the Saints, one becomes generous.
ਮੂਰਖ ਸਿਉ ਬੋਲੇ ਝਖ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
Moorakh Sio Bolae Jhakh Maaree ||2||
मूरख सिउ बोले झख मारी ॥२॥
To speak with a fool is to babble uselessly. ||2||
ਬੋਲਤ ਬੋਲਤ ਬਢਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
Bolath Bolath Badtehi Bikaaraa ||
बोलत बोलत बढहि बिकारा ॥
By speaking and only speaking, corruption only increases.
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
Bin Bolae Kiaa Karehi Beechaaraa ||3||
बिनु बोले किआ करहि बीचारा ॥३॥
If I do not speak, what can the poor wretch do? ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਛੂਛਾ ਘਟੁ ਬੋਲੈ ॥
Kahu Kabeer Shhooshhaa Ghatt Bolai ||
कहु कबीर छूछा घटु बोलै ॥
Says Kabeer, the empty pitcher makes noise,
ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਡੋਲੈ ॥੪॥੧॥
Bhariaa Hoe S Kabahu N Ddolai ||4||1||
भरिआ होइ सु कबहु न डोलै ॥४॥१॥
But that which is full makes no sound. ||4||1||

Gond:
ਨਰੂ ਮਰੈ ਨਰੁ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
Naroo Marai Nar Kaam N Aavai ||
नरू मरै नरु कामि न आवै ॥
When a man dies, he is of no use to anyone.
ਪਸੂ ਮਰੈ ਦਸ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
Pasoo Marai Dhas Kaaj Savaarai ||1||
पसू मरै दस काज सवारै ॥१॥
But when an animal dies, it is used in ten ways. ||1||
ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਮ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮੈ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਉ ॥
Apanae Karam Kee Gath Mai Kiaa Jaano ||
अपने करम की गति मै किआ जानउ ॥
What do I know, about the state of my karma?
ਮੈ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਉ ਬਾਬਾ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मै किआ जानउ बाबा रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
What do I know, O Baba? ||1||Pause||
ਹਾਡ ਜਲੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਲਕਰੀ ਕਾ ਤੂਲਾ ॥
Haadd Jalae Jaisae Lakaree Kaa Thoolaa ||
हाड जले जैसे लकरी का तूला ॥
His bones burn, like a bundle of logs;
ਕੇਸ ਜਲੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਘਾਸ ਕਾ ਪੂਲਾ ॥੨॥
Kaes Jalae Jaisae Ghaas Kaa Poolaa ||2||
केस जले जैसे घास का पूला ॥२॥
His hair burns like a bale of hay. ||2||
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਨਰੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
Kahu Kabeer Thab Hee Nar Jaagai ||
कहु कबीर तब ही नरु जागै ॥
Says Kabeer, the man wakes up,
ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਮੂੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੩॥੨॥
Jam Kaa Ddandd Moondd Mehi Laagai ||3||2||
जम का डंडु मूंड महि लागै ॥३॥२॥
Only when the Messenger of Death hits him over the head with his club. ||3||2||

ਆਕਾਸਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਪਾਤਾਲਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਹੈ ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਰਹਾਇਲੇ ॥
Aakaas Gagan Paathaal Gagan Hai Chahu Dhis Gagan Rehaaeilae ||
आकासि गगनु पातालि गगनु है चहु दिसि गगनु रहाइले ॥
The Celestial Lord is in the Akaashic ethers of the skies, the Celestial Lord is in the nether regions of the underworld; in the four directions, the Celestial Lord is pervading.
ਆਨਦ ਮੂਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮੁ ਘਟੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਗਗਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇਲੇ ॥੧॥
Aanadh Mool Sadhaa Purakhotham Ghatt Binasai Gagan N Jaaeilae ||1||
आनद मूलु सदा पुरखोतमु घटु बिनसै गगनु न जाइले ॥१॥
The Supreme Lord God is forever the source of bliss. When the vessel of the body perishes, the Celestial Lord does not perish. ||1||

मोहि बैरागु भइओ ॥
I have become sad,
ਇਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਆਇ ਕਹਾ ਗਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Eihu Jeeo Aae Kehaa Gaeiou ||1|| Rehaao ||
इहु जीउ आइ कहा गइओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Wondering where the soul comes from, and where it goes. ||1||Pause||
ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਕੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਤਤੁ ਕਹਾ ਤੇ ਕੀਨੁ ਰੇ ॥
Panch Thath Mil Kaaeiaa Keenhee Thath Kehaa Thae Keen Rae ||
पंच ततु मिलि काइआ कीन्ही ततु कहा ते कीनु रे ॥
The body is formed from the union of the five tatvas; but where were the five tatvas created?
ਕਰਮ ਬਧ ਤੁਮ ਜੀਉ ਕਹਤ ਹੌ ਕਰਮਹਿ ਕਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਦੀਨੁ ਰੇ ॥੨॥
Karam Badhh Thum Jeeo Kehath Ha Karamehi Kin Jeeo Dheen Rae ||2||
करम बध तुम जीउ कहत हौ करमहि किनि जीउ दीनु रे ॥२॥
You say that the soul is tied to its karma, but who gave karma to the body? ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਮਹਿ ਤਨੁ ਹੈ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹੈ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਸੋਇ ਰੇ ॥
Har Mehi Than Hai Than Mehi Har Hai Sarab Niranthar Soe Rae ||
हरि महि तनु है तन महि हरि है सरब निरंतरि सोइ रे ॥
The body is contained in the Lord, and the Lord is contained in the body. He is permeating within all.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਰੇ ॥੩॥੩॥
Kehi Kabeer Raam Naam N Shhoddo Sehajae Hoe S Hoe Rae ||3||3||
कहि कबीर राम नामु न छोडउ सहजे होइ सु होइ रे ॥३॥३॥
Says Kabeer, I shall not renounce the Lord's Name. I shall accept whatever happens. ||3||3||

ਭੁਜਾ ਬਾਂਧਿ ਭਿਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਓ ॥
Bhujaa Baandhh Bhilaa Kar Ddaariou ||
भुजा बांधि भिला करि डारिओ ॥
They tied my arms, bundled me up, and threw me before an elephant.
ਹਸਤੀ ਕ੍ਰੋਪਿ ਮੂੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਿਓ ॥
Hasathee Krop Moondd Mehi Maariou ||
हसती क्रोपि मूंड महि मारिओ ॥
The elephant driver struck him on the head, and infuriated him.
ਹਸਤਿ ਭਾਗਿ ਕੈ ਚੀਸਾ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
Hasath Bhaag Kai Cheesaa Maarai ||
हसति भागि कै चीसा मारै ॥
But the elephant ran away, trumpeting,
ਇਆ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
Eiaa Moorath Kai Ho Balihaarai ||1||
इआ मूरति कै हउ बलिहारै ॥१॥
"I am a sacrifice to this image of the Lord."||1||
ਆਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਜੋਰੁ ॥
Aahi Maerae Thaakur Thumaraa Jor ||
आहि मेरे ठाकुर तुमरा जोरु ॥
O my Lord and Master, You are my strength.
ਕਾਜੀ ਬਕਿਬੋ ਹਸਤੀ ਤੋਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Kaajee Bakibo Hasathee Thor ||1|| Rehaao ||
काजी बकिबो हसती तोरु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The Qazi shouted at the driver to drive the elephant on. ||1||Pause||
ਰੇ ਮਹਾਵਤ ਤੁਝੁ ਡਾਰਉ ਕਾਟਿ ॥
Rae Mehaavath Thujh Ddaaro Kaatt ||
रे महावत तुझु डारउ काटि ॥
He yelled out, ""O driver, I shall cut you into pieces.
ਇਸਹਿ ਤੁਰਾਵਹੁ ਘਾਲਹੁ ਸਾਟਿ ॥
Eisehi Thuraavahu Ghaalahu Saatt ||
इसहि तुरावहु घालहु साटि ॥
Hit him, and drive him on!""
ਹਸਤਿ ਨ ਤੋਰੈ ਧਰੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
Hasath N Thorai Dhharai Dhhiaan ||
हसति न तोरै धरै धिआनु ॥
But the elephant did not move; instead, he began to meditate.
ਵਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
Vaa Kai Ridhai Basai Bhagavaan ||2||
वा कै रिदै बसै भगवानु ॥२॥
The Lord God abides within his mind. ||2||
ਕਿਆ ਅਪਰਾਧੁ ਸੰਤ ਹੈ ਕੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ॥
Kiaa Aparaadhh Santh Hai Keenhaa ||
किआ अपराधु संत है कीन्हा ॥
What sin has this Saint committed,
ਬਾਂਧਿ ਪੋਟ ਕੁੰਚਰ ਕਉ ਦੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ॥
Baandhh Pott Kunchar Ko Dheenhaa ||
बांधि पोट कुंचर कउ दीन्हा ॥
That you have made him into a bundle and thrown him before the elephant?
ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਪੋਟ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੈ ॥
Kunchar Pott Lai Lai Namasakaarai ||
कुंचरु पोट लै लै नमसकारै ॥
Lifting up the bundle, the elephant bows down before it.
ਬੂਝੀ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਜੀ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੈ ॥੩॥
Boojhee Nehee Kaajee Andhhiaarai ||3||
बूझी नही काजी अंधिआरै ॥३॥
The Qazi could not understand it; he was blind. ||3||
ਤੀਨਿ ਬਾਰ ਪਤੀਆ ਭਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
Theen Baar Patheeaa Bhar Leenaa ||
तीनि बार पतीआ भरि लीना ॥
Three times, he tried to do it.
