मनु कीनो दह दिस बिस्रामु ॥
But your mind wanders in the ten directions.
ਤਿਲਕੁ ਚਰਾਵੈ ਪਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥
Thilak Charaavai Paaee Paae ||
तिलकु चरावै पाई पाइ ॥
You apply a ceremonial tilak mark to its forehead, and fall at its feet.
ਲੋਕ ਪਚਾਰਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
Lok Pachaaraa Andhh Kamaae ||2||
लोक पचारा अंधु कमाइ ॥२॥
You try to appease the people, and act blindly. ||2||
ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਅਰੁ ਆਸਣੁ ਧੋਤੀ ॥
Khatt Karamaa Ar Aasan Dhhothee ||
खटु करमा अरु आसणु धोती ॥
You perform the six religious rituals, and sit wearing your loin-cloth.
ਭਾਗਠਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਪੜੈ ਨਿਤ ਪੋਥੀ ॥
Bhaagath Grihi Parrai Nith Pothhee ||
भागठि ग्रिहि पड़ै नित पोथी ॥
In the homes of the wealthy, you read the prayer book.
ਮਾਲਾ ਫੇਰੈ ਮੰਗੈ ਬਿਭੂਤ ॥
Maalaa Faerai Mangai Bibhooth ||
माला फेरै मंगै बिभूत ॥
You chant on your mala, and beg for money.
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਤਰਿਓ ਮੀਤ ॥੩॥
Eih Bidhh Koe N Thariou Meeth ||3||
इह बिधि कोइ न तरिओ मीत ॥३॥
No one has ever been saved in this way, friend. ||3||
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
So Panddith Gur Sabadh Kamaae ||
सो पंडितु गुर सबदु कमाइ ॥
He alone is a Pandit, who lives the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਕੀ ਓਸੁ ਉਤਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥
Thrai Gun Kee Ous Outharee Maae ||
त्रै गुण की ओसु उतरी माइ ॥
Maya, of the three qualities, leaves him.
ਚਤੁਰ ਬੇਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
Chathur Baedh Pooran Har Naae ||
चतुर बेद पूरन हरि नाइ ॥
The four Vedas are completely contained within the Lord's Name.

Millions of troubles do not come near him;
ਅਨਿਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਚੇਰਿ ॥

अनिक माइआ है ता की चेरि ॥
The many manifestations of Maya are his hand-maidens;
ਅਨਿਕ ਪਾਪ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਨੀਹਾਰ ॥
Anik Paap Thaa Kae Paaneehaar ||
अनिक पाप ता के पानीहार ॥
Countless sins are his water-carriers;
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਇਆ ਭਈ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੧॥
Jaa Ko Maeiaa Bhee Karathaar ||1||
जा कउ मइआ भई करतार ॥१॥
He is blessed with the Grace of the Creator Lord. ||1||
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੋਇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥
Jisehi Sehaaee Hoe Bhagavaan ||
जिसहि सहाई होइ भगवान ॥
One who has the Lord God as his help and support
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਉਆ ਕੈ ਸਰੰਜਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अनिक जतन उआ कै सरंजाम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Karathaa Raakhai Keethaa Koun ||
करता राखै कीता कउनु ॥
He is protected by the Creator Lord; what harm can anyone do to him?
ਕੀਰੀ ਜੀਤੋ ਸਗਲਾ ਭਵਨੁ ॥
Keeree Jeetho Sagalaa Bhavan ||
कीरी जीतो सगला भवनु ॥
Even an ant can conquer the whole world.
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੇਤਕ ਬਰਨ ॥
Baeanth Mehimaa Thaa Kee Kaethak Baran ||
बेअंत महिमा ता की केतक बरन ॥
His glory is endless; how can I describe it?
ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ॥੨॥
Bal Bal Jaaeeai Thaa Kae Charan ||2||
बलि बलि जाईऐ ता के चरन ॥२॥
I am a sacrifice, a devoted sacrifice, to His feet. ||2||
ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
Thin Hee Keeaa Jap Thap Dhhiaan ||
तिन ही कीआ जपु तपु धिआनु ॥
He alone performs worship, austerities and meditation;
ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
Anik Prakaar Keeaa Thin Dhaan ||
अनिक प्रकार कीआ तिनि दानु ॥
He alone is a giver to various charities;
ਭਗਤੁ ਸੋਈ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
Bhagath Soee Kal Mehi Paravaan ||
भगतु सोई कलि महि परवानु ॥
He alone is approved in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga,
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
Jaa Ko Thaakur Dheeaa Maan ||3||
जा कउ ठाकुरि दीआ मानु ॥३॥
Whom the Lord Master blesses with honor. ||3||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥
Saadhhasang Mil Bheae Pragaas ||
साधसंगि मिलि भए प्रगास ॥
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I am enlightened.
ਸਹਜ ਸੂਖ ਆਸ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
Sehaj Sookh Aas Nivaas ||
सहज सूख आस निवास ॥
I have found celestial peace, and my hopes are fulfilled.
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬਿਸਾਸ ॥
Poorai Sathigur Dheeaa Bisaas ||
पूरै सतिगुरि दीआ बिसास ॥
The Perfect True Guru has blessed me with faith.

Don't blame others, O people;
ਜੋ ਕਮਾਵਨੁ ਸੋਈ ਭੋਗ ॥
Jo Kamaavan Soee Bhog ||
जो कमावनु सोई भोग ॥
As you plant, so shall you harvest.
ਆਪਨ ਕਰਮ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਬੰਧ ॥
Aapan Karam Aapae Hee Bandhh ||
आपन करम आपे ही बंध ॥
By your actions, you have bound yourself.
ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਵਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਧੰਧ ॥੧॥
Aavan Jaavan Maaeiaa Dhhandhh ||1||
आवनु जावनु माइआ धंध ॥१॥
You come and go, entangled in Maya. ||1||
ਐਸੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੀ ॥

ऐसी जानी संत जनी ॥
Such is the understanding of the Saintly people.

Than Dhhan Kalath Mithhiaa Bisathhaar ||
तनु धनु कलतु मिथिआ बिसथार ॥
Body, wealth, spouse and ostentatious displays are false.
ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਚਾਲਨਹਾਰ ॥
Haivar Gaivar Chaalanehaar ||
हैवर गैवर चालनहार ॥
Horses and elephants will pass away.
ਰਾਜ ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਸਭਿ ਕੂਰ ॥
Raaj Rang Roop Sabh Koor ||
राज रंग रूप सभि कूर ॥
Power, pleasures and beauty are all false.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਸੀ ਧੂਰ ॥੨॥
Naam Binaa Hoe Jaasee Dhhoor ||2||
नाम बिना होइ जासी धूर ॥२॥
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, everything is reduced to dust. ||2||
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਬਾਦਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
Bharam Bhoolae Baadh Ahankaaree ||
भरमि भूले बादि अहंकारी ॥
The egotistical people are deluded by useless doubt.
ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਪਸਾਰੀ ॥
Sang Naahee Rae Sagal Pasaaree ||
संगि नाही रे सगल पसारी ॥
Of all this expanse, nothing shall go along with you.
ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖ ਮਹਿ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਰਧਾਨੀ ॥
Sog Harakh Mehi Dhaeh Biradhhaanee ||
सोग हरख महि देह बिरधानी ॥
Through pleasure and pain, the body is growing old.
ਸਾਕਤ ਇਵ ਹੀ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਨੀ ॥੩॥
Saakath Eiv Hee Karath Bihaanee ||3||
साकत इव ही करत बिहानी ॥३॥
Doing these things, the faithless cynics are passing their lives. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਲਿ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Anmrith Kal Maahi ||
हरि का नामु अम्रितु कलि माहि ॥
The Name of the Lord is Ambrosial Nectar in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga.
ਏਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Eaehu Nidhhaanaa Saadhhoo Paahi ||
एहु निधाना साधू पाहि ॥
This treasure is obtained from the Holy.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂਠਾ ॥
Naanak Gur Govidh Jis Thoothaa ||
नानक गुरु गोविदु जिसु तूठा ॥
O Nanak, whoever pleases the Guru,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੯॥

घटि घटि रमईआ तिन ही डीठा ॥४॥८॥१९॥
The Lord of the Universe, beholds the Lord in each and every heart. ||4||8||19||

Anehadh Baajae Acharaj Bisamaadh ||
अनहद बाजे अचरज बिसमाद ॥
The wondrous, amazing unstruck melody vibrates.
ਕੇਲ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਗ ॥
Kael Karehi Santh Har Log ||
केल करहि संत हरि लोग ॥
The Saintly people play there with the Lord.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਿਰਜੋਗ ॥੧॥
Paarabreham Pooran Nirajog ||1||
पारब्रहम पूरन निरजोग ॥१॥
They remain totally detached, absorbed in the Supreme Lord God. ||1||
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਭਵਨ ॥
Sookh Sehaj Aanandh Bhavan ||
सूख सहज आनंद भवन ॥
It is the realm of celestial peace and bliss.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਤਹ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਨਹੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Saadhhasang Bais Gun Gaavehi Theh Rog Sog Nehee Janam Maran ||1|| Rehaao ||
साधसंगि बैसि गुण गावहि तह रोग सोग नही जनम मरन ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, sits and sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. There is no disease or sorrow there, no birth or death. ||1||Pause||
ਊਹਾ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
Oohaa Simarehi Kaeval Naam ||
ऊहा सिमरहि केवल नामु ॥
There, they meditate only on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਬਿਰਲੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਓਹੁ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
Biralae Paavehi Ouhu Bisraam ||
बिरले पावहि ओहु बिस्रामु ॥
How rare are those who find this place of rest.
ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਉ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
Bhojan Bhaao Keerathan Aadhhaar ||
भोजनु भाउ कीरतन आधारु ॥
The love of God is their food, and the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is their support.
