ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ॥
Sehaj Samaadhh Dhhun Gehir Ganbheeraa ||
सहज समाधि धुनि गहिर ग्मभीरा ॥
He is intuitively in Samaadhi, profound and unfathomable.
ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਾਮ ॥
Sadhaa Mukath Thaa Kae Poorae Kaam ||
सदा मुकतु ता के पूरे काम ॥
He is liberated forever and all his affairs are perfectly resolved;
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥੨॥
Jaa Kai Ridhai Vasai Har Naam ||2||
जा कै रिदै वसै हरि नाम ॥२॥
The Lord's Name abides within his heart. ||2||
ਸਗਲ ਸੂਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਅਰੋਗ ॥
Sagal Sookh Aanandh Arog ||
सगल सूख आनंद अरोग ॥
He is totally peaceful, blissful and healthy;
ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਿਰਜੋਗ ॥
Samadharasee Pooran Nirajog ||
समदरसी पूरन निरजोग ॥
He looks upon all impartially, and is perfectly detached.
ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਡੋਲੈ ਕਤ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Aae N Jaae Ddolai Kath Naahee ||
आइ न जाइ डोलै कत नाही ॥
He does not come and go, and he never wavers;
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
Jaa Kai Naam Basai Man Maahee ||3||
जा कै नामु बसै मन माही ॥३॥
The Naam abides in his mind. ||3||
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਗਪਾਲ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ॥
Dheen Dhaeiaal Guopaal Govindh ||
दीन दइआल गोपाल गोविंद ॥
God is Merciful to the meek; He is the Lord of the World, the Lord of the Universe.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਉਤਰੈ ਚਿੰਦ ॥
Guramukh Japeeai Outharai Chindh ||
गुरमुखि जपीऐ उतरै चिंद ॥
The Gurmukh meditates on Him, and his worries are gone.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
Naanak Ko Gur Dheeaa Naam ||
नानक कउ गुरि दीआ नामु ॥
The Guru has blessed Nanak with the Naam;
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਕਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੨੬॥

बीज मंत्रु हरि कीरतनु गाउ ॥
Sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises and the Beej Mantra the Seed Mantra.
ਆਗੈ ਮਿਲੀ ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਥਾਉ ॥
Aagai Milee Nithhaavae Thhaao ||
आगै मिली निथावे थाउ ॥
Even the homeless find a home in the world hereafter.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੁ ॥
Gur Poorae Kee Charanee Laag ||
गुर पूरे की चरणी लागु ॥
Fall at the feet of the Perfect Guru;
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਸੋਇਆ ਜਾਗੁ ॥੧॥
Janam Janam Kaa Soeiaa Jaag ||1||
जनम जनम का सोइआ जागु ॥१॥
You have slept for so many incarnations - wake up! ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪਲਾ ॥

हरि हरि जापु जपला ॥
Chant the Chant of the Lord's Name, Har, Har.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਾਸੈ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Gur Kirapaa Thae Hiradhai Vaasai Bhoujal Paar Paralaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
गुर किरपा ते हिरदै वासै भउजलु पारि परला ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
By Guru's Grace, it shall be enshrined within your heart, and you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਮਨ ਅਟਲ ॥
Naam Nidhhaan Dhhiaae Man Attal ||
नामु निधानु धिआइ मन अटल ॥
Meditate on the eternal treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O mind,
ਤਾ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਪਟਲ ॥
Thaa Shhoottehi Maaeiaa Kae Pattal ||
ता छूटहि माइआ के पटल ॥
And then, the screen of Maya shall be torn away.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਉ ॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Anmrith Ras Peeo ||
गुर का सबदु अम्रित रसु पीउ ॥
Drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Guru's Shabad,
ਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
Thaa Thaeraa Hoe Niramal Jeeo ||2||
ता तेरा होइ निरमल जीउ ॥२॥
And then your soul shall be rendered immaculate and pure. ||2||
ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
Sodhhath Sodhhath Sodhh Beechaaraa ||
सोधत सोधत सोधि बीचारा ॥
Searching, searching, searching, I have realized
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥
Bin Har Bhagath Nehee Shhuttakaaraa ||
बिनु हरि भगति नही छुटकारा ॥
That without devotional worship of the Lord, no one is saved.
ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
So Har Bhajan Saadhh Kai Sang ||
सो हरि भजनु साध कै संगि ॥
So vibrate, and meditate on that Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy;
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਾਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੩॥
Man Than Raapai Har Kai Rang ||3||
मनु तनु रापै हरि कै रंगि ॥३॥
Your mind and body shall be imbued with love for the Lord. ||3||
ਛੋਡਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
Shhodd Siaanap Bahu Chathuraaee ||
छोडि सिआणप बहु चतुराई ॥
Renounce all your cleverness and trickery.
ਮਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥
Man Bin Har Naavai Jaae N Kaaee ||
मन बिनु हरि नावै जाइ न काई ॥
O mind, without the Lord's Name, there is no place of rest.
ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਗਸਾਈ ॥
Dhaeiaa Dhhaaree Govidh Guosaaee ||
दइआ धारी गोविद गोसाई ॥
The Lord of the Universe, the Lord of the World, has taken pity on me.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੨੭॥

Nanak seeks the protection and support of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||16||27||

In the Saints' Congregation play joyfully with the Lord
ਆਗੈ ਜਮ ਸਿਉ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਲ ॥
Aagai Jam Sio Hoe N Mael ||
आगै जम सिउ होइ न मेल ॥
And you will not have to meet the Messenger of Death hereafter.
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਕਾ ਭਇਆ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
Ahanbudhh Kaa Bhaeiaa Binaas ||
अह्मबुधि का भइआ बिनास ॥
Your egotistical intellect shall be dispelled,
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਗਲੀ ਨਾਸ ॥੧॥
Dhuramath Hoee Sagalee Naas ||1||
दुरमति होई सगली नास ॥१॥
And your evil-mindedness will be totally taken away. ||1||

ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਕਾਜੈ ਕੁਸਲ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Karam Kaandd Ahankaar N Kaajai Kusal Saethee Ghar Jaahi Panddith ||1|| Rehaao ||
करम कांड अहंकारु न काजै कुसल सेती घरि जाहि पंडित ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Religious rituals and egotism are of no use at all. You shall go home with happiness, O Pandit. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਜਸੁ ਨਿਧਿ ਲੀਆ ਲਾਭ ॥
Har Kaa Jas Nidhh Leeaa Laabh ||
हरि का जसु निधि लीआ लाभ ॥
I have earned the profit, the wealth of the Lord's praise.
ਪੂਰਨ ਭਏ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਸਾਭ ॥
Pooran Bheae Manorathh Saabh ||
पूरन भए मनोरथ साभ ॥
All my hopes have been fulfilled.
ਦੁਖੁ ਨਾਠਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
Dhukh Naathaa Sukh Ghar Mehi Aaeiaa ||
दुखु नाठा सुखु घर महि आइआ ॥
Pain has left me, and peace has come to my home.
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਸਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Santh Prasaadh Kamal Bigasaaeiaa ||2||
संत प्रसादि कमलु बिगसाइआ ॥२॥
By the Grace of the Saints, my heart-lotus blossoms forth. ||2||
ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
Naam Rathan Jin Paaeiaa Dhaan ||
नाम रतनु जिनि पाइआ दानु ॥
One who is blessed with the gift of the jewel of the Name,
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਹੋਏ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
This Jan Hoeae Sagal Nidhhaan ||
तिसु जन होए सगल निधान ॥
Obtains all treasures.
ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਆਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇ ॥
Santhokh Aaeiaa Man Pooraa Paae ||
संतोखु आइआ मनि पूरा पाइ ॥
His mind becomes content, finding the Perfect Lord.
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਾਗਨ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
Fir Fir Maagan Kaahae Jaae ||3||
फिरि फिरि मागन काहे जाइ ॥३॥
Why should he ever go begging again? ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਤ ਪਵਿਤ ॥
Har Kee Kathhaa Sunath Pavith ||
हरि की कथा सुनत पवित ॥
Hearing the Lord's sermon, he becomes pure and holy.
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਬਕਤ ਪਾਈ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ॥
Jihavaa Bakath Paaee Gath Math ||
जिहवा बकत पाई गति मति ॥
Chanting it with his tongue, he finds the way to salvation.
ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
So Paravaan Jis Ridhai Vasaaee ||
सो परवाणु जिसु रिदै वसाई ॥
He alone is approved, who enshrines the Lord within his heart.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਊਤਮ ਭਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੨੮॥
Naanak Thae Jan Ootham Bhaaee ||4||17||28||
नानक ते जन ऊतम भाई ॥४॥१७॥२८॥
Nanak: such a humble being is exalted, O Siblings of Destiny. ||4||17||28||

गहु करि पकरी न आई हाथि ॥
No matter how hard you try to grab it, it does not come into your hands.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਚਾਲੀ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
Preeth Karee Chaalee Nehee Saathh ||
प्रीति करी चाली नही साथि ॥
No matter how much you may love it, it does not go along with you.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਉ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਦਈ ॥
Kahu Naanak Jo Thiaag Dhee ||
कहु नानक जउ तिआगि दई ॥
Says Nanak, when you abandon it,
ਤਬ ਓਹ ਚਰਣੀ ਆਇ ਪਈ ॥੧॥
Thab Ouh Charanee Aae Pee ||1||
तब ओह चरणी आइ पई ॥१॥
Then it comes and falls at your feet. ||1||
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
Sun Santhahu Niramal Beechaar ||
सुणि संतहु निरमल बीचार ॥
Listen, O Saints: this is the pure philosophy.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਤ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Raam Naam Bin Gath Nehee Kaaee Gur Pooraa Bhaettath Oudhhaar ||1|| Rehaao ||
राम नाम बिनु गति नही काई गुरु पूरा भेटत उधार ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Without the Lord's Name, there is no salvation. Meeting with the Perfect Guru, one is saved. ||1||Pause||
