ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Grihi Sobhaa Jaa Kai Rae Naahi ||
ग्रिहि सोभा जा कै रे नाहि ॥
When someone's household has no glory
ਆਵਤ ਪਹੀਆ ਖੂਧੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
Aavath Peheeaa Khoodhhae Jaahi ||
आवत पहीआ खूधे जाहि ॥
The guests who come there depart still hungry.
ਵਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥
Vaa Kai Anthar Nehee Santhokh ||
वा कै अंतरि नही संतोखु ॥
Deep within, there is no contentment.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਦੋਖੁ ॥੧॥
Bin Sohaagan Laagai Dhokh ||1||
बिनु सोहागनि लागै दोखु ॥१॥
Without his bride, the wealth of Maya, he suffers in pain. ||1||
ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਪਵੀਤ ॥
Dhhan Sohaagan Mehaa Paveeth ||
धनु सोहागनि महा पवीत ॥
So praise this bride, which can shake the consciousness
ਤਪੇ ਤਪੀਸਰ ਡੋਲੈ ਚੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਕੀ ਪੂਤੀ ॥
Sohaagan Kirapan Kee Poothee ||
सोहागनि किरपन की पूती ॥
This bride is the daughter of a wretched miser.
ਸੇਵਕ ਤਜਿ ਜਗਤ ਸਿਉ ਸੂਤੀ ॥
Saevak Thaj Jagath Sio Soothee ||
सेवक तजि जगत सिउ सूती ॥
Abandoning the Lord's servant, she sleeps with the world.
ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਠਾਢੀ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥
Saadhhoo Kai Thaadtee Dharabaar ||
साधू कै ठाढी दरबारि ॥
Standing at the door of the holy man,
ਸਰਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
Saran Thaeree Mo Ko Nisathaar ||2||
सरनि तेरी मो कउ निसतारि ॥२॥
She says, ""I have come to your sanctuary; now save me!""||2||
ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ॥
Sohaagan Hai Ath Sundharee ||
सोहागनि है अति सुंदरी ॥
This bride is so beautiful.
ਪਗ ਨੇਵਰ ਛਨਕ ਛਨਹਰੀ ॥
Pag Naevar Shhanak Shhaneharee ||
पग नेवर छनक छनहरी ॥
The bells on her ankles make soft music.
ਜਉ ਲਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਊ ਲਗੁ ਸੰਗੇ ॥
Jo Lag Praan Thoo Lag Sangae ||
जउ लगु प्रान तऊ लगु संगे ॥
As long as there is the breath of life in the man, she remains attached to him.
ਨਾਹਿ ਤ ਚਲੀ ਬੇਗਿ ਉਠਿ ਨੰਗੇ ॥੩॥
Naahi Th Chalee Baeg Outh Nangae ||3||
नाहि त चली बेगि उठि नंगे ॥३॥
But when it is no more, she quickly gets up and departs, bare-footed. ||3||
ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੀਆ ॥
Sohaagan Bhavan Thrai Leeaa ||
सोहागनि भवन त्रै लीआ ॥
This bride has conquered the three worlds.
ਦਸ ਅਠ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਤੀਰਥ ਰਸ ਕੀਆ ॥
Dhas Ath Puraan Theerathh Ras Keeaa ||
दस अठ पुराण तीरथ रस कीआ ॥
The eighteen Puraanas and the sacred shrines of pilgrimage love her as well.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਰ ਬੇਧੇ ॥
Brehamaa Bisan Mehaesar Baedhhae ||
ब्रहमा बिसनु महेसर बेधे ॥
She pierced the hearts of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu.
ਬਡੇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਹੈ ਛੇਧੇ ॥੪॥
Baddae Bhoopath Raajae Hai Shhaedhhae ||4||
बडे भूपति राजे है छेधे ॥४॥
She destroyed the great emperors and kings of the world. ||4||
ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਉਰਵਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਰਿ ॥

सोहागनि उरवारि न पारि ॥
This bride has no restraint or limits.
ਪਾਂਚ ਨਾਰਦ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਧਵਾਰਿ ॥
Paanch Naaradh Kai Sang Bidhhavaar ||
पांच नारद कै संगि बिधवारि ॥
She is in collusion with the five thieving passions.
ਪਾਂਚ ਨਾਰਦ ਕੇ ਮਿਟਵੇ ਫੂਟੇ ॥
Paanch Naaradh Kae Mittavae Foottae ||
पांच नारद के मिटवे फूटे ॥
When the clay pot of these five passions bursts,
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਛੂਟੇ ॥੫॥੫॥੮॥
Kahu Kabeer Gur Kirapaa Shhoottae ||5||5||8||
कहु कबीर गुर किरपा छूटे ॥५॥५॥८॥
Then, says Kabeer, by Guru's Mercy, one is released. ||5||5||8||

ਜੈਸੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਬਲਹਰ ਨਾ ਠਾਹਰੈ ॥
Jaisae Mandhar Mehi Balehar Naa Thaaharai ||
जैसे मंदर महि बलहर ना ठाहरै ॥
As the house will not stand when the supporting beams are removed from within it,
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੈ ॥
Naam Binaa Kaisae Paar Outharai ||
नाम बिना कैसे पारि उतरै ॥
Just so, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can anyone be carried across?
ਕੁੰਭ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਲੁ ਨਾ ਟੀਕਾਵੈ ॥
Kunbh Binaa Jal Naa Tteekaavai ||
कु्मभ बिना जलु ना टीकावै ॥
Without the pitcher, the water is not contained;
ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਐਸੇ ਅਬਗਤੁ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
Saadhhoo Bin Aisae Abagath Jaavai ||1||
साधू बिनु ऐसे अबगतु जावै ॥१॥
Just so, without the Holy Saint, the mortal departs in misery. ||1||
ਜਾਰਉ ਤਿਸੈ ਜੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ॥
Jaaro Thisai J Raam N Chaethai ||
जारउ तिसै जु रामु न चेतै ॥
One who does not remember the Lord - let him burn;
ਤਨ ਮਨ ਰਮਤ ਰਹੈ ਮਹਿ ਖੇਤੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Than Man Ramath Rehai Mehi Khaethai ||1|| Rehaao ||
तन मन रमत रहै महि खेतै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
His body and mind have remained absorbed in this field of the world. ||1||Pause||
ਜੈਸੇ ਹਲਹਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਮੀ ਨਹੀ ਬੋਈਐ ॥
Jaisae Halehar Binaa Jimee Nehee Boeeai ||
जैसे हलहर बिना जिमी नही बोईऐ ॥
Without a farmer, the land is not planted;
ਸੂਤ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਮਣੀ ਪਰੋਈਐ ॥
Sooth Binaa Kaisae Manee Paroeeai ||
सूत बिना कैसे मणी परोईऐ ॥
Without a thread, how can the beads be strung?
ਘੁੰਡੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਆ ਗੰਠਿ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਈਐ ॥
Ghunddee Bin Kiaa Ganth Charrhaaeeai ||
घुंडी बिनु किआ गंठि चड़्हाईऐ ॥
Without a loop, how can the knot be tied?
ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਤੈਸੇ ਅਬਗਤੁ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

साधू बिनु तैसे अबगतु जाईऐ ॥२॥
Just so, without the Holy Saint, the mortal departs in misery. ||2||
ਜੈਸੇ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
Jaisae Maath Pithaa Bin Baal N Hoee ||
जैसे मात पिता बिनु बालु न होई ॥
Without a mother or father there is no child;
ਬਿੰਬ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਕਪਰੇ ਧੋਈ ॥
Binb Binaa Kaisae Kaparae Dhhoee ||
बि्मब बिना कैसे कपरे धोई ॥
Just so, without water, how can the clothes be washed?
ਘੋਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਅਸਵਾਰ ॥
Ghor Binaa Kaisae Asavaar ||
घोर बिना कैसे असवार ॥
Without a horse, how can there be a rider?
ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦਰਵਾਰ ॥੩॥
Saadhhoo Bin Naahee Dharavaar ||3||
साधू बिनु नाही दरवार ॥३॥
Without the Holy Saint, one cannot reach the Court of the Lord. ||3||
ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਜੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਲੀਜੈ ਫੇਰੀ ॥
Jaisae Baajae Bin Nehee Leejai Faeree ||
जैसे बाजे बिनु नही लीजै फेरी ॥
Just as without music, there is no dancing,
ਖਸਮਿ ਦੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਤਜਿ ਅਉਹੇਰੀ ॥
Khasam Dhuhaagan Thaj Aouhaeree ||
खसमि दुहागनि तजि अउहेरी ॥
The bride rejected by her husband is dishonored.
ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਏਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਨਾ ॥
Kehai Kabeer Eaekai Kar Karanaa ||
कहै कबीरु एकै करि करना ॥
Says Kabeer, do this one thing:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੯॥
Guramukh Hoe Bahur Nehee Maranaa ||4||6||9||
गुरमुखि होइ बहुरि नही मरना ॥४॥६॥९॥
Become Gurmukh, and you shall never die again. ||4||6||9||

ਕੂਟਨੁ ਸੋਇ ਜੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਕੂਟੈ ॥
Koottan Soe J Man Ko Koottai ||
कूटनु सोइ जु मन कउ कूटै ॥
He alone is a pimp, who pounds down his mind.
ਮਨ ਕੂਟੈ ਤਉ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ॥
Man Koottai Tho Jam Thae Shhoottai ||
मन कूटै तउ जम ते छूटै ॥
Pounding down his mind, he escapes from the Messenger of Death.
ਕੁਟਿ ਕੁਟਿ ਮਨੁ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
Kutt Kutt Man Kasavattee Laavai ||
कुटि कुटि मनु कसवटी लावै ॥
Pounding and beating his mind, he puts it to the test;
ਸੋ ਕੂਟਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
So Koottan Mukath Bahu Paavai ||1||
सो कूटनु मुकति बहु पावै ॥१॥
Such a pimp attains total liberation. ||1||
ਕੂਟਨੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਹਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
Koottan Kisai Kehahu Sansaar ||
कूटनु किसै कहहु संसार ॥
Who is called a pimp in this world?
ਸਗਲ ਬੋਲਨ ਕੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सगल बोलन के माहि बीचार ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
In all speech, one must carefully consider. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਚਨੁ ਸੋਇ ਜੁ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਚੈ ॥
Naachan Soe J Man Sio Naachai ||
नाचनु सोइ जु मन सिउ नाचै ॥
He alone is a dancer, who dances with his mind.
ਝੂਠਿ ਨ ਪਤੀਐ ਪਰਚੈ ਸਾਚੈ ॥
Jhooth N Patheeai Parachai Saachai ||
झूठि न पतीऐ परचै साचै ॥
The Lord is not satisfied with falsehood; He is pleased only with Truth.
ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਆਗੇ ਪੂਰੈ ਤਾਲ ॥
Eis Man Aagae Poorai Thaal ||
इसु मन आगे पूरै ताल ॥
So play the beat of the drum in the mind.
ਇਸੁ ਨਾਚਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਰਖਵਾਲ ॥੨॥
Eis Naachan Kae Man Rakhavaal ||2||
इसु नाचन के मन रखवाल ॥२॥
The Lord is the Protector of the dancer with such a mind. ||2||
ਬਜਾਰੀ ਸੋ ਜੁ ਬਜਾਰਹਿ ਸੋਧੈ ॥
Bajaaree So J Bajaarehi Sodhhai ||
बजारी सो जु बजारहि सोधै ॥
She alone is a street-dancer, who cleanses her body-street,
ਪਾਂਚ ਪਲੀਤਹ ਕਉ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ ॥
Paanch Paleetheh Ko Parabodhhai ||
पांच पलीतह कउ परबोधै ॥
And educates the five passions.
ਨਉ ਨਾਇਕ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
No Naaeik Kee Bhagath Pashhaanai ||
नउ नाइक की भगति पछानै ॥
She who embraces devotional worship for the Lord
ਸੋ ਬਾਜਾਰੀ ਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਮਾਨੇ ॥੩॥
So Baajaaree Ham Gur Maanae ||3||
सो बाजारी हम गुर माने ॥३॥
- I accept such a street-dancer as my Guru. ||3||
ਤਸਕਰੁ ਸੋਇ ਜਿ ਤਾਤਿ ਨ ਕਰੈ ॥
Thasakar Soe J Thaath N Karai ||
तसकरु सोइ जि ताति न करै ॥
He alone is a thief, who is above envy,
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਕੈ ਜਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ ॥
Eindhree Kai Jathan Naam Oucharai ||
इंद्री कै जतनि नामु उचरै ॥
And who uses his sense organs to chant the Lord's Name.
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਮ ਐਸੇ ਲਖਨ ॥
Kahu Kabeer Ham Aisae Lakhan ||
कहु कबीर हम ऐसे लखन ॥
Says Kabeer, these are the qualities of the one
ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਅਤਿ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਚਖਨ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੦॥

धंनु गुरदेव अति रूप बिचखन ॥४॥७॥१०॥
