ਹਮ ਡੋਲਤ ਬੇੜੀ ਪਾਪ ਭਰੀ ਹੈ ਪਵਣੁ ਲਗੈ ਮਤੁ ਜਾਈ ॥
Ham Ddolath Baerree Paap Bharee Hai Pavan Lagai Math Jaaee ||
हम डोलत बेड़ी पाप भरी है पवणु लगै मतु जाई ॥
My boat is wobbly and unsteady; it is filled with sins. The wind is rising - what if it tips over?
ਸਨਮੁਖ ਸਿਧ ਭੇਟਣ ਕਉ ਆਏ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥
Sanamukh Sidhh Bhaettan Ko Aaeae Nihacho Dhaehi Vaddiaaee ||1||
सनमुख सिध भेटण कउ आए निहचउ देहि वडिआई ॥१॥
As sunmukh, I have turned to the Guru; O my Perfect Master; please be sure to bless me with Your glorious greatness. ||1||

Gur Thaar Thaaranehaariaa ||
गुर तारि तारणहारिआ ॥
O Guru, my Saving Grace, please carry me across the world-ocean.
ਦੇਹਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਵਿਨਾਸੀ ਹਉ ਤੁਝ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dhaehi Bhagath Pooran Avinaasee Ho Thujh Ko Balihaariaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
देहि भगति पूरन अविनासी हउ तुझ कउ बलिहारिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Bless me with devotion to the perfect, imperishable Lord God; I am a sacrifice to You. ||1||Pause||
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਜੋਗੀ ਅਰੁ ਜੰਗਮ ਏਕੁ ਸਿਧੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
Sidhh Saadhhik Jogee Ar Jangam Eaek Sidhh Jinee Dhhiaaeiaa ||
सिध साधिक जोगी अरु जंगम एकु सिधु जिनी धिआइआ ॥
He alone is a Siddha, a seeker, a Yogi, a wandering pilgrim, who meditates on the One Perfect Lord.
ਪਰਸਤ ਪੈਰ ਸਿਝਤ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਖਰੁ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥
Parasath Pair Sijhath Thae Suaamee Akhar Jin Ko Aaeiaa ||2||
परसत पैर सिझत ते सुआमी अखरु जिन कउ आइआ ॥२॥
Touching the feet of the Lord Master, they are emancipated; they come to receive the Word of the Teachings. ||2||
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਮ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
Jap Thap Sanjam Karam N Jaanaa Naam Japee Prabh Thaeraa ||
जप तप संजम करम न जाना नामु जपी प्रभ तेरा ॥
I know nothing of charity, meditation, self-discipline or religious rituals; I only chant Your Name, God.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੩॥੬॥
Gur Paramaesar Naanak Bhaettiou Saachai Sabadh Nibaeraa ||3||6||
गुरु परमेसरु नानक भेटिओ साचै सबदि निबेरा ॥३॥६॥
Nanak has met the Guru, the Transcendent Lord God; through the True Word of His Shabad, he is set free. ||3||6||

ਸੁਰਤੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਰਲਾਈਐ ਏਤੁ ॥
Surathee Surath Ralaaeeai Eaeth ||
सुरती सुरति रलाईऐ एतु ॥
Focus your consciousness in deep absorption on the Lord.
ਤਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਲੰਘਹਿ ਜੇਤੁ ॥
Than Kar Thulehaa Langhehi Jaeth ||
तनु करि तुलहा लंघहि जेतु ॥
Make your body a raft, to cross over.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭਾਹਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਤੂ ਰਖੁ ॥
Anthar Bhaahi Thisai Thoo Rakh ||
अंतरि भाहि तिसै तू रखु ॥
Deep within is the fire of desire; keep it in check.
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਅਥਕੁ ॥੧॥
Ahinis Dheevaa Balai Athhak ||1||
अहिनिसि दीवा बलै अथकु ॥१॥
Day and night, that lamp shall burn unceasingly. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਨੀਰਿ ਤਰਾਇ ॥
Aisaa Dheevaa Neer Tharaae ||
ऐसा दीवा नीरि तराइ ॥
Float such a lamp upon the water;
ਜਿਤੁ ਦੀਵੈ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jith Dheevai Sabh Sojhee Paae ||1|| Rehaao ||
जितु दीवै सभ सोझी पाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
This lamp will bring total understanding. ||1||Pause||
ਹਛੀ ਮਿਟੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
Hashhee Mittee Sojhee Hoe ||
हछी मिटी सोझी होइ ॥
This understanding is good clay;
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਮਾਨੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
Thaa Kaa Keeaa Maanai Soe ||
ता का कीआ मानै सोइ ॥
A lamp made of such clay is acceptable to the Lord.
ਕਰਣੀ ਤੇ ਕਰਿ ਚਕਹੁ ਢਾਲਿ ॥
Karanee Thae Kar Chakahu Dtaal ||
करणी ते करि चकहु ढालि ॥
So shape this lamp on the wheel of good actions.
ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਨਿਬਹੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
Aithhai Outhhai Nibehee Naal ||2||
ऐथै ओथै निबही नालि ॥२॥
In this world and in the next, this lamp shall be with you. ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
Aapae Nadhar Karae Jaa Soe ||
आपे नदरि करे जा सोइ ॥
When He Himself grants His Grace,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
Guramukh Viralaa Boojhai Koe ||
गुरमुखि विरला बूझै कोइ ॥
Then, as Gurmukh, one may understand Him.
ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਦੀਵਾ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Thith Ghatt Dheevaa Nihachal Hoe ||
तितु घटि दीवा निहचलु होइ ॥
Within the heart, this lamp is permanently lit.
ਪਾਣੀ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
Paanee Marai N Bujhaaeiaa Jaae ||
पाणी मरै न बुझाइआ जाइ ॥
It is not extinguished by water or wind.
ਐਸਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਨੀਰਿ ਤਰਾਇ ॥੩॥
Aisaa Dheevaa Neer Tharaae ||3||
ऐसा दीवा नीरि तराइ ॥३॥
Such a lamp will carry you across the water. ||3||
ਡੋਲੈ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਵਡਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Ddolai Vaao N Vaddaa Hoe ||
डोलै वाउ न वडा होइ ॥
Wind does not shake it, or put it out.
ਜਾਪੈ ਜਿਉ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣਿ ਲੋਇ ॥
Jaapai Jio Singhaasan Loe ||
जापै जिउ सिंघासणि लोइ ॥
Its light reveals the Divine Throne.
ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਸੂਦੁ ਕਿ ਵੈਸੁ ॥
Khathree Braahaman Soodh K Vais ||
खत्री ब्राहमणु सूदु कि वैसु ॥
The Kh'shaatriyas, Brahmins, Soodras and Vaishyas
ਨਿਰਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ਗਣੀ ਸਹੰਸ ॥
Nirath N Paaeeaa Ganee Sehans ||
निरति न पाईआ गणी सहंस ॥
Cannot find its value, even by thousands of calculations.
ਐਸਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਬਾਲੇ ਕੋਇ ॥
Aisaa Dheevaa Baalae Koe ||
ऐसा दीवा बाले कोइ ॥
If any of them lights such a lamp,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਪਾਰੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੭॥
Naanak So Paarangath Hoe ||4||7||
नानक सो पारंगति होइ ॥४॥७॥
O Nanak, he is emancipated. ||4||7||

ਤੁਧਨੋ ਨਿਵਣੁ ਮੰਨਣੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
Thudhhano Nivan Mannan Thaeraa Naao ||
तुधनो निवणु मंनणु तेरा नाउ ॥
To place one's faith in Your Name,Lord,is true worship.
ਸਾਚੁ ਭੇਟ ਬੈਸਣ ਕਉ ਥਾਉ ॥
Saach Bhaett Baisan Ko Thhaao ||
साचु भेट बैसण कउ थाउ ॥
With an offering of Truth, one obtains a place to sit.
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
Sath Santhokh Hovai Aradhaas ||
सतु संतोखु होवै अरदासि ॥
If a prayer is offered with truth and contentment,
ਤਾ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਦਿ ਬਹਾਲੇ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧॥
Thaa Sun Sadh Behaalae Paas ||1||
ता सुणि सदि बहाले पासि ॥१॥
The Lord will hear it, and call him in to sit by Him. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Naanak Birathhaa Koe N Hoe ||
नानक बिरथा कोइ न होइ ॥
O Nanak, no one returns empty-handed;
ਐਸੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Aisee Dharageh Saachaa Soe ||1|| Rehaao ||
ऐसी दरगह साचा सोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Such is the Court of the True Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਪੋਤਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਪਸਾਉ ॥
Praapath Pothaa Karam Pasaao ||
प्रापति पोता करमु पसाउ ॥
The treasure I seek is the gift of Your Grace.
ਤੂ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਮੰਗਤ ਜਨ ਚਾਉ ॥
Thoo Dhaevehi Mangath Jan Chaao ||
तू देवहि मंगत जन चाउ ॥
Please bless this humble beggar - this is what I seek.
ਭਾਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਪਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਆਇ ॥
Bhaaddai Bhaao Pavai Thith Aae ||
भाडै भाउ पवै तितु आइ ॥
Please, pour Your Love into the cup of my heart.
ਧੁਰਿ ਤੈ ਛੋਡੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
Dhhur Thai Shhoddee Keemath Paae ||2||
धुरि तै छोडी कीमति पाइ ॥२॥
This is Your pre-determined value. ||2||
ਜਿਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
Jin Kishh Keeaa So Kishh Karai ||
जिनि किछु कीआ सो किछु करै ॥
The One who created everything, does everything.
ਅਪਨੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਧਰੈ ॥
Apanee Keemath Aapae Dhharai ||
अपनी कीमति आपे धरै ॥
He Himself appraises His own value.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
Guramukh Paragatt Hoaa Har Raae ||
गुरमुखि परगटु होआ हरि राइ ॥
The Sovereign Lord King becomes manifest to the Gurmukh.
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
Naa Ko Aavai Naa Ko Jaae ||3||
ना को आवै ना को जाइ ॥३॥
He does not come, and He does not go. ||3||
ਲੋਕੁ ਧਿਕਾਰੁ ਕਹੈ ਮੰਗਤ ਜਨ ਮਾਗਤ ਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Lok Dhhikaar Kehai Mangath Jan Maagath Maan N Paaeiaa ||
लोकु धिकारु कहै मंगत जन मागत मानु न पाइआ ॥
People curse at the beggar; by begging, he does not receive honor.
ਸਹ ਕੀਆ ਗਲਾ ਦਰ ਕੀਆ ਬਾਤਾ ਤੈ ਤਾ ਕਹਣੁ ਕਹਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੮॥
Seh Keeaa Galaa Dhar Keeaa Baathaa Thai Thaa Kehan Kehaaeiaa ||4||8||
सह कीआ गला दर कीआ बाता तै ता कहणु कहाइआ ॥४॥८॥
O Lord, You inspire me to speak Your Words, and tell the Story of Your Court. ||4||8||

Saagar Mehi Boondh Boondh Mehi Saagar Kavan Bujhai Bidhh Jaanai ||
सागर महि बूंद बूंद महि सागरु कवणु बुझै बिधि जाणै ॥
The drop is in the ocean, and the ocean is in the drop. Who understands, and knows this?
ਉਤਭੁਜ ਚਲਤ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਚੀਨੈ ਆਪੇ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੧॥
Outhabhuj Chalath Aap Kar Cheenai Aapae Thath Pashhaanai ||1||
उतभुज चलत आपि करि चीनै आपे ततु पछाणै ॥१॥
He Himself creates the wondrous play of the world. He Himself contemplates it, and understands its true essence. ||1||
