मारू महला ३ ॥
Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਿ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
Nirankaar Aakaar Oupaaeiaa ||
निरंकारि आकारु उपाइआ ॥
The Formless Lord created the universe of form.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohu Hukam Banaaeiaa ||
माइआ मोहु हुकमि बणाइआ ॥
By the Hukam of His Command, He created attachment to Maya.
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
Aapae Khael Karae Sabh Karathaa Sun Saachaa Mann Vasaaeidhaa ||1||
आपे खेल करे सभि करता सुणि साचा मंनि वसाइदा ॥१॥
The Creator Himself stages all the plays; hearing of the True Lord, enshrine Him in your mind. ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਈ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਸੂਤਿ ਜਮਾਇਆ ॥
Maaeiaa Maaee Thrai Gun Parasooth Jamaaeiaa ||
माइआ माई त्रै गुण परसूति जमाइआ ॥
Maya, the mother, gave birth to the three gunas, the three qualities,
ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਨੋ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
Chaarae Baedh Brehamae No Furamaaeiaa ||
चारे बेद ब्रहमे नो फुरमाइआ ॥
And proclaimed the four Vedas to Brahma.
ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਮਾਹ ਵਾਰ ਥਿਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
Varhae Maah Vaar Thhithee Kar Eis Jag Mehi Sojhee Paaeidhaa ||2||
वर्हे माह वार थिती करि इसु जग महि सोझी पाइदा ॥२॥
Creating the years, months, days and dates, He infused intelligence into the world. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰ ॥
Gur Saevaa Thae Karanee Saar ||
गुर सेवा ते करणी सार ॥
Service to the Guru is the most excellent action.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰ ॥
Raam Naam Raakhahu Our Dhhaar ||
राम नामु राखहु उरि धार ॥
Enshrine the Lord's Name within your heart.
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵਰਤੀ ਜਗ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਇਸੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
Gurabaanee Varathee Jag Anthar Eis Baanee Thae Har Naam Paaeidhaa ||3||
गुरबाणी वरती जग अंतरि इसु बाणी ते हरि नामु पाइदा ॥३॥
The Word of the Guru's Bani prevails throughout the world; through this Bani, the Lord's Name is obtained. ||3||
ਵੇਦੁ ਪੜੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਵਾਦ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
Vaedh Parrai Anadhin Vaadh Samaalae ||
वेदु पड़ै अनदिनु वाद समाले ॥
He reads the Vedas, but he starts arguments night and day.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਬਧਾ ਜਮਕਾਲੇ ॥
Naam N Chaethai Badhhaa Jamakaalae ||
नामु न चेतै बधा जमकाले ॥
He does not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord; he is bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Sadhaa Dhukh Paaeae Thrai Gun Bharam Bhulaaeidhaa ||4||
दूजै भाइ सदा दुखु पाए त्रै गुण भरमि भुलाइदा ॥४॥
In the love of duality, he suffers in pain forever; he is deluded by doubt, and confused by the three gunas. ||4||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
Guramukh Eaekas Sio Liv Laaeae ||
गुरमुखि एकसु सिउ लिव लाए ॥
The Gurmukh is in love with the One Lord alone;
ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
Thribidhh Manasaa Manehi Samaaeae ||
त्रिबिधि मनसा मनहि समाए ॥
He submerges in his mind the three-phased desire.
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
Saachai Sabadh Sadhaa Hai Mukathaa Maaeiaa Mohu Chukaaeidhaa ||5||
साचै सबदि सदा है मुकता माइआ मोहु चुकाइदा ॥५॥
Through the True Word of the Shabad, he is liberated forever; he renounces emotional attachment to Maya. ||5||
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸੇ ਹੁਣਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
Jo Dhhur Raathae Sae Hun Raathae ||
जो धुरि राते से हुणि राते ॥
Those who are so pre-ordained to be imbued, are imbued with love for the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੇ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Sehajae Maathae ||
गुर परसादी सहजे माते ॥
By Guru's Grace, they are intuitively intoxicated.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
Sathigur Saev Sadhaa Prabh Paaeiaa Aapai Aap Milaaeidhaa ||6||
सतिगुरु सेवि सदा प्रभु पाइआ आपै आपु मिलाइदा ॥६॥
Serving the True Guru forever, they find God; He Himself unites them with Himself. ||6||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohi Bharam N Paaeae ||
माइआ मोहि भरमि न पाए ॥
In attachment to Maya and doubt, the Lord is not found.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Lagaa Dhukh Paaeae ||
दूजै भाइ लगा दुखु पाए ॥
Attached to the love of duality, one suffers in pain.
ਸੂਹਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਦਿਨ ਥੋੜੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਇਸੁ ਜਾਦੇ ਬਿਲਮ ਨ ਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
Soohaa Rang Dhin Thhorrae Hovai Eis Jaadhae Bilam N Laaeidhaa ||7||
सूहा रंगु दिन थोड़े होवै इसु जादे बिलम न लाइदा ॥७॥
The crimson color lasts for only a few days; all too soon, it fades away. ||7||
ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਰੰਗਾਏ ॥
Eaehu Man Bhai Bhaae Rangaaeae ||
एहु मनु भै भाइ रंगाए ॥
So color this mind in the Fear and the Love of God.
ਇਤੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
Eith Rang Saachae Maahi Samaaeae ||
इतु रंगि साचे माहि समाए ॥
Dyed in this color, one merges in the True Lord.
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਕੋ ਇਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
Poorai Bhaag Ko Eihu Rang Paaeae Guramathee Rang Charraaeidhaa ||8||
पूरै भागि को इहु रंगु पाए गुरमती रंगु चड़ाइदा ॥८॥
By perfect destiny, some may obtain this color. Through the Guru's Teachings, this color is applied. ||8||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
Manamukh Bahuth Karae Abhimaan ||
मनमुखु बहुतु करे अभिमानु ॥
The self-willed manmukhs take great pride in themselves.
ਦਰਗਹ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
Dharageh Kab Hee N Paavai Maan ||
दरगह कब ही न पावै मानु ॥
In the Court of the Lord, they are never honored.
ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
Dhoojai Laagae Janam Gavaaeiaa Bin Boojhae Dhukh Paaeidhaa ||9||
दूजै लागे जनमु गवाइआ बिनु बूझे दुखु पाइदा ॥९॥
Attached to duality, they waste their lives; without understanding, they suffer in pain. ||9||
ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
Maerai Prabh Andhar Aap Lukaaeiaa ||
मेरै प्रभि अंदरि आपु लुकाइआ ॥
My God has hidden Himself deep within the self.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Har Milai Milaaeiaa ||
गुर परसादी हरि मिलै मिलाइआ ॥
By Guru's Grace, one is united in the Lord's Union.
ਸਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਚਾ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
Sachaa Prabh Sachaa Vaapaaraa Naam Amolak Paaeidhaa ||10||
सचा प्रभु सचा वापारा नामु अमोलकु पाइदा ॥१०॥
God is True, and True is His trade, through which the priceless Naam is obtained. ||10||
ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
Eis Kaaeiaa Kee Keemath Kinai N Paaee ||
इसु काइआ की कीमति किनै न पाई ॥
No one has found this body's value.
ਮੇਰੈ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਇਹ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥
Maerai Thaakur Eih Banath Banaaee ||
मेरै ठाकुरि इह बणत बणाई ॥
My Lord and Master has worked His handiwork.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਸੋਧੈ ਆਪਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
Guramukh Hovai S Kaaeiaa Sodhhai Aapehi Aap Milaaeidhaa ||11||
गुरमुखि होवै सु काइआ सोधै आपहि आपु मिलाइदा ॥११॥
One who becomes Gurmukh purifies his body, and then the Lord unites him with Himself. ||11||
ਕਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੋਟਾ ਕਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਲਾਹਾ ॥
Kaaeiaa Vich Thottaa Kaaeiaa Vich Laahaa ||
काइआ विचि तोटा काइआ विचि लाहा ॥
Within the body, one loses, and within the body, one wins.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜੇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥
Guramukh Khojae Vaeparavaahaa ||
गुरमुखि खोजे वेपरवाहा ॥
The Gurmukh seeks the self-sustaining Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
Guramukh Vanaj Sadhaa Sukh Paaeae Sehajae Sehaj Milaaeidhaa ||12||
गुरमुखि वणजि सदा सुखु पाए सहजे सहजि मिलाइदा ॥१२॥
The Gurmukh trades, and finds peace forever; he intuitively merges in the Celestial Lord. ||12||
ਸਚਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਸਚੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
Sachaa Mehal Sachae Bhanddaaraa ||
सचा महलु सचे भंडारा ॥
True is the Lord's Mansion, and True is His treasure.
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
Aapae Dhaevai Dhaevanehaaraa ||
आपे देवै देवणहारा ॥
The Great Giver Himself gives.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
Guramukh Saalaahae Sukhadhaathae Man Maelae Keemath Paaeidhaa ||13||
गुरमुखि सालाहे सुखदाते मनि मेले कीमति पाइदा ॥१३॥
The Gurmukh praises the Giver of peace; his mind is united with the Lord, and he comes to know His worth. ||13||
ਕਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
Kaaeiaa Vich Vasath Keemath Nehee Paaee ||
काइआ विचि वसतु कीमति नही पाई ॥
Within the body is the object; its value cannot be estimated.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Guramukh Aapae Dhae Vaddiaaee ||
गुरमुखि आपे दे वडिआई ॥
He Himself grants glorious greatness to the Gurmukh.
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਹਟੁ ਸੋਈ ਵਥੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
Jis Dhaa Hatt Soee Vathh Jaanai Guramukh Dhaee N Pashhothaaeidhaa ||14||
जिस दा हटु सोई वथु जाणै गुरमुखि देइ न पछोताइदा ॥१४॥
He alone knows this object, to whom this store belongs; the Gurmukh is blessed with it, and does not come to regret. ||14||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
Har Jeeo Sabh Mehi Rehiaa Samaaee ||
हरि जीउ सभ महि रहिआ समाई ॥
The Dear Lord is pervading and permeating all.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਈ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Paaeiaa Jaaee ||
गुर परसादी पाइआ जाई ॥
By Guru's Grace, He is found.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
Aapae Mael Milaaeae Aapae Sabadhae Sehaj Samaaeidhaa ||15||
आपे मेलि मिलाए आपे सबदे सहजि समाइदा ॥१५॥
He Himself unites in His Union; through the Word of the Shabad, one intuitively merges with Him. ||15||
